Apologies if this has already been asked/answered, but have spent the last two days looking for a solution..
When connected via USB I cannot establish an internet connection, unless I delete the T-Mobile proxy setting.
I've applied the regedit edit that's been mentioned as a solution, but this didn't work.
Is there anyway to use the pass through connection without having to delete the proxy everytime?
The main annoyance is that the phone won't sync with my exchange server whilst connected to the PC. I have mail set up to sync with exchange server and all other items syncing with my PC. My Hermes sync'ed with anything and everything.
Thanks
just leave the proxy out.
T-Mobile's proxy is a pain in the arse and causes all sorts of problems.
I deleted the proxy from my connection on t-mobile nearly three years ago and on every single device i have had since. never had a problem since.
If the proxy is there, it affects ALL internet connections, so when you plug it in to your PC, it is trying to go through a Proxy that you can only access over GPRS.
that's why proxies are a PITA and should be deleted permanently.
and no, it should not affect anyhting if you delete it. or not that i have noticed anyway.
Thanks will give it a go when I get home.
Seem to be able to access internet without the proxy, but forgot my usb cable so can't test pass though at work.. fingers crossed!
When I deleted the proxy I couldn't then send SMS texts...?
That's a completely random coincidence. The proxy has nothing to do with SMS whatsoever.
you can of course make sure that you are using GSM for SMS. start>settings>connections>advanced network>SMS
set it to GSM. if this is already set, then it has nothing to do with the proxy.
Says "Your text message cannot be sent" after I removed the proxy. SMS is set to GSM. Could it have altered any other relevant settings? Have put the proxy back now but it still refuses to send the message.
Any ideas?
no, wouldn't have changed anything else. The proxy has no bearing on SMS whatsoever.
Like i said, i reckon it is just a coincidence, otherwise turning the proxy back on would have fixed it.
If it is set to GSM already try the other three settings as well.
and a soft reset of course....
Have found a cable and tested - still no joy after deleting proxy.
Connecting to PC, and items syncing with host PC are fine. Mail syncing with Exchange server fails and can't access internet via pass through.
Browsing and syncing with the exchange server is fine when not connected to the PC.
Btw kempas - SMS works fine after deleting the proxy setting, as it should do.
Steve
on the handset:
start>settings>connections>wifi (NOT Wireless LAN)> network adapters
set the drop down box to Internet.
On the PC:
Open Activesync>File>Connection Settings
Set "This computer connects to" to the internet.
Dunno what it is in vista, i have avoided it like the plague....
I did a soft reset and tried again (a couple of time) with no luck, unable to send text message.
Went to settings, connections and run through the network provider setup wizard, let it reset the phone and tried again. Settings 'seemed' all the same but SMS now sent without issue.
Will try removing the proxy again later and testing with another SMS.
EDIT: removed the proxy and sent an SMS without issue this time... So was a "completely random coincidence" as rhedgehog said.
Still can't access You Tube via it's mobile client though, at least, it still says no videos...
All now appears to do what I expect after removing proxy and following rhedgehog's advice. Pass through now works Many thanks!
Also appeared that the t-mobile proxy blocks Windows live and messenger

No, but it is against the t&cs to use IM software when on basic web n walk. Tmobile block the ports for IM software anyways, it seems for new customers since several old customers managed to get through.....i never could though, so the proxy would make no difference if it is on or off.
I personally am on wnw+ which is TOTALLY worth it for using the HSPA when out with my laptop on location.
Cheers for that. Won't really need messenger to be honest - but the proxy setting interfering with the pass through was annoying.

Log into My T-Mobile or call customer services and get the adult content filter turned off.
I think they blocked it to prevent kids blowing mummy and daddy's credit on watching videos.
Of course, Streaming is also against the T&C's of wnw standard, so it could be that this is why. I'm on wnw+ and had to turn off the filter to get it working.
Yep, that was it. Cheers for the reply...
My girlfriend has the Huawei Ascend from Cricket and she has encountered many problems with it:
She can not access anything but the web on 3G. She can not access the Market, Facebook, or even YouTube unless she is on a WiFi network. ; Weird thing, when she was in a different state she said all she had was 1X and could connect to the FaceBook app, but not in our state.
Also, she is not receiving text messages or phone calls but can send them just fine.
Any help guys?
No assistance?
What kind of signal (3G or 1X) and how strong is it right now? When I first got my phone, I had this same issue. I ended up having to bring it back to Cricket and let them wipe it and reinstall the OS. Apparently there was a switching issue in the software.
i have accidentally uninstalled my gtalk app on my ascend.... if anyone knows how i can get it back PLEASE pm me and let me know asap... it will be greatly appreciated

Hello,
I have done a bit of a search about this but havent found an answer.
At work we have a network with wifi which is behind an authenticated proxy which the admins wont allow cell connection to. I have tried with various proxy apps but no luck. I need the wifi network to sync with the email server, which does work, however while on wifi I cant use the internet or receive txts from WhatsApp etc.
Basically I am just wanting to know if there is a way or an app, to enable 3G for a specific application while on Wifi, or to somehow enable both on request.
The dataplan I have at work is very restrictive, only 100 txt a month and 512mb Data a month on 3G. I therefore rely on WhatsApp to stay under this limit, but dont want my email app to sync to the server and download large emails while on 3G, only while on Wifi. And I need WhatsApp to use 3G as it cant get out via Wifi.
If anyone has suggestions or knows of something to get around this, I would really apprecitate it.
I am on a Galaxy S2 with Root.
Thanks
try droidwall- android firewall
Same issue
I have the same issue, only opposite, I use my phone at work to connect to a machine specific wifi router and vnc into the controls to control the machine. While I am on this connection without internet my 4g turns off and I get no data. Is there a way to force the 4g on while i am on a wifi without internet access so i can still access my email, pandora, etc?
I tried droidwall, but all that does is block the specific app from accessing the wifi connection, it still wont use the 4g connection while there is a wifi network connected, whether there is internet or not.
Oh yes, I am on a rooted Skyrocket on SKY ICS RC7.4 Speed (Great ROM BTW).
I'm guessing by the lack of response, nobody knows of a way to do what we are wanting, but I want to try refreshing this the once just to see if maybe the person who has the solution just missed the first time.
I did reflash my rom to SKy ICS 4.2A-8 if that helps. Im willing to use different roms, mods, hacks, whatever it takes to make this work.
N5 4.4.2. Straight Talk
It seems to be doing this the last couple of weeks. I get emails/hangout/email notifications fine on wifi, go to data, I can still use internet, but have to manually refresh email and hangouts to get new messages to appear. If I step back into wifi then everything starts working normally again.
Any ideas?

In general your phone will update the server again to it's new IP to PUSH to. When you are on WIFI you are on your network and attached to whatever IP your ISP leases you. When you are on 3G/LTE or whatever your phone is getting a leased IP address from the carrier so the server will need to connect to your phone different. Since the server only updates once the client connects it wont know till the "heartbeat" is sent again or you manually refresh.
By default the heartbeat slows down after some time if it hasn't gotten any new messages in a while. So it may start off at 30 seconds then slowly drops down to 10mins (think this depends on the server). Once a new message comes in, the server pings your phone and tells it to connect for a new message and then your phone downloads and starts over the heartbeat again.
When you change IP addresses by going from WIFI to LTE it should update the server but maybe there is a bug or something that it's not working correctly. I haven't tested this scenario on my device so i can't be sure but that's how it's supposed to work.
I am unable to connect to whatsapp web.
I can send and receive messages and calls on my device but cannot connect to WhatsApp web on pc. My device scans the qr image perfectly and then the loading screen remains the same. I have spoken to my phone provider and they have assured me my line is fine and there are no connectivity restrictions. I have used other devices with different numbers on the same network and computer and WhatsApp web works perfectly. I have tried on different WiFi connections and pcs and nothing! I have factory reset my device and reinstalled WhatsApp and updated everything and it still does not work.
Help center has not resolved my issue.
I have done everything the troubleshoot tells you to try.
I have cleared cache, cookies, data. I have updated apps, browsers. I have reset connections, apns. I have made sure there are no firewalls or vpns. No ad blocks. You name it, I've probably tried it!
I have contacted whatsapp about it and they have basically taken me around in circles.
I have also contacted my mobile provider again and have been told that there are no restrictions or connection configurations that could affect using whatsapp web. I have tried the same sim card in different phones and none of them connect however, any other phone with any other sim card does.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
