Class Action wants software fix from HTC
By Tony Dennis: Thursday, 17 January 2008, 2:00 AM
A BIT of a spat has arisen amongst owners of certain recent HTC mobile PDAs and the manufacturer over an alleged lack of a decent driver. The complainers have formed the HTC Class Action organisation.
Given the tone of the site, the group appears to be mainly US based. Their main gripe is that a number of HTC devices based on Qualcomm MSM7200 and MSM7500 chipsets fail to properly use the hardware acceleration provided by the ATI Imageon hardware inside the devices.
In the group's own words, "Even much older devices from HTC as well as from their competitors perform better."
We're talking about how well these devices' graphics capabilities work here, of course.
While the threat of a class action (involving the US courts) by the group appears to be something of an empty one, HTC Class Action does seem to be genuinely offering a reward of over $3,000 to anybody who comes up with the right software fix. That must be worth a punt.
The group also claims that it has put together a petition which has been signed by over 4,000 HTC mobile PDA owners asking the company to resolve the situation.
Given that one of the HTC models in question - the TyTN II – retails at about $700, the group doesn't think this is a trivial complaint.
However, HTC did respond to the INQ with an official statement on this particular problem. It said: "Based on recent customer feedback with regards to video performance, HTC is in the process of investigating and validating these reports and if necessary identifying solutions to rectify any unusual issues."
So the two sides still seem far apart on whether there is a problem to be fixed or not. Perhaps HTC doesn't want to pay ATI unnecessarily? µ
Im so happy that alot of websites are posting these kind of messages! HTC WILL LISTEN!!
this is definitely a good response. Chainfire's decision to start the website really made a big difference.

Similar specs, launch, HTC Vs Samsung, which one are you getting and why?
SGS2 because of the SAMOLED+. I cannot go with an inferior screen being as that is what most of my phone experience is based around. I have tried the Evo and a couple others that are similar to the vibe but cannot handle the lower quality screen.
Another note, I need my gorilla glass, the touch screen feels to coarse on non gorilla glass screens.
samsung FTW _/ i dont like the htc's
Probably neither, but if I were to choose, I'd go with the Samsung. I'll be keeping my Vibrant for quite a while, though.
Neither Qualcomm suckssss ballsssssss

Leaning toward Ruby at the moment. This Samsung Vibrant GPS bull**** has been too much for me. But I'll wait for reviews to be written before I decide for sure.
Don't understand why this was moved from Vibrant General Discussion to General Questions and Answers.
This isn't Q&A, I believe this was intended to be a discussion spurred by a question. And it's relevant to Vibrant owners specifically because the Ruby and Hercules are the next top-tier phones to be available to T-Mobile customers, and either a likely upgrade candidate.
Now this discussion will probably die in a forum it really doesn't belong in.

Was scratching my head on that as well. My main concern regarding Galaxy S II is Samsung's track record on updates which we all infinitely desire. HTC has proven they want the end users to enjoy their experience going much further then you'd ever expect Samsung too. I remember the specs and and thrills of the Galaxy S when it was announced. Only to be punched in the face by TMobile stripping features (FFC) as well as all the users who said don't do it Samsung drops support... only to see it happen. Due to the community the device did well and I have been happy for the most part but the Vibrant was never what it should have or could have been. Not sure I want to play that game again with Samsung for the price of a screen.

But... In the same family....
Hercules or SGS2
a little big screen....
and the same exynos or qualcomm?
will ruby/amaze 4g have unlocked bootloader?
I AM A NOOB at this. I do not pretend to know anything about phones and their OS's. Or how they work together. I did some preliminary searching before opening a new thread, and found nothing relating to the subject in question. Admittedly, I also suck at using search engines.
So, being that the HTC HD7S and HTC Inspire 4G are similar internally, would WD7 Mango work on the Inspire? Both phones are; ATT, HTC produced, have 1ghz processors (Inspire: 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 Processor, HD7S:Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1 GHz processor ). Each has similar amount of RAM.
My reason for wanting to try this: I have a spare Inspire. I'm tired of iOS and Android for the time being. I have used Cyanogen. I would like to try out WP7. I am interested in making development/coding a hobby. (Take your pick)
Thanks in advanced. If I have done anything that annoys the forum, please forgive me, I am new and in time I'll learn what is and isn't acceptable.
simple answer...
Nope.
Your best bet sell your spare Inspire and buy WP7
Hope this helps. not trying to be a smart ass just trying to give you a straight up answer
First off, welcome to the forum.
In general, WP7 is very much tied to specific phone models. There's just one exception where hackers have managed to get it running on non-WP7 hardware -- the HD2. And that was possible because of a uniquely favorable set of conditions. The HD2 is almost literally identical internally to the HD7 that followed it, and the HD2 was a Windows Mobile device and thus had certain software and firmware similarities to the HD7 making tooling etc. somewhat easier for the hackers.
Bottom line is that I don't think you will ever see what you are asking for.
If you want to experiment with WP7 cheaply maybe you can find a cheap non-contract device somewhere? Or a used one? If you like it you can jump in the water more deeply.
Thanks all, for the replies. Looks like I might go buy an HD7.
Hello,
I opened this thread because i want that people can read and see what the best phone is for him.
The most people will say that the samsung galaxy s3 is the best phone, but that's because its very populair by the galaxy series
The htc one X and the lg optimus 4x speed are good devices too.
Please write your opinion and experienced with your 'best phone' so people can see what they might will buy.
Please do it in this order, so it's easier to read
Name of the device
Android version
Price
Screen (inch)
Number of cores
Amount of ram
Battery (Mah)
Camera (Mp)
Good points
Bad points
Description/opinion ( why should we buy this device?)
Owner (yes/no)

Honestly it will come down to the user "you".
Sure there are plenty of awesome new high spec phones out there. But each one will define the user, say.. ex. The Razr? It has 22-24 hours of talk time? That's impressive, most high end phone recently released can't do this.
You'll just have to look through the specs and find the one you think will meet your needs. I'm on the Droid incredible, my eye is in the nexus. Its nearly perfect for me as an upgrade, features have nice specs "except the cam/corder" not sure what Samsung was thinking
But in every other department it fits my needs.

It is very interesting.
So you’ve heard about the Samsung Galaxy S4, and you’re excited for the launch of the HTC One, but you’ve realized that you can’t have both. What do you do? You have a peek at a list of possible specifications for the Samsung device, dig your fingernails into your kneecaps in anticipation of the launch of both that and the HTC One, and hold on tight. There’s a chance that one of the two won’t be in stores for long.
While we’ve seen the HTC One live and in-person more than one time before – both at the launch and during Mobile World Congress 2013 – there’s something about it that just doesn’t click. Can you guess what it is? If today’s report from Android Community is right, it’s the camera. But that’s not what we were thinking here – instead that one crucial element was – and will be – the face that the phone is not going to be out for sale with enough time between its launch and the launch of the Galaxy S4.
There won’t be enough time for the HTC One to grab hold of the public conscious for it to be popular enough to overcome the allure of the most powerful Android-toting brand on the market today: Galaxy. Samsung has done so well with the Galaxy brand over the past few years that the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, and Galaxy S III have been best-sellers consecutively. And the Galaxy Note line hasn’t been doing too bad itself.
So what does HTC lack that Samsung has? What will douse HTC in a hot mess called irrelevancy?
Samsung’s advertising cash.
If Samsung can do one thing right (and we know they can do more than one thing right), it’s public advertising on the part of their mobile devices. The Samsung brand name is synonymous with cool at this point in history and, based on last years’ ads and the court cases that continue through today, we know they’re the biggest guns up against Apple’s dominance in the mobile market with the iPhone and the iPad.
If HTC had the backing at this point to out-show Samsung with television ad spots and billboards across the country, not to mention online banners and whatnot, would they be geared up and ready for Samsung’s Galaxy S4 launch? I say yes, very possibly.
So which device should you buy – the HTC One or the Galaxy S4? I suppose it all depends on which device you find more appealing. Forget the specification comparisons, forget which device runs the newest version of Android, forget all of that. You’ll see sales follow the brand power. HTC needs to release the HTC One now, and plow through the little time they have left before the Galaxy S4 hits the market – or forever hold their un-sold handsets.

The Plot Thickens
HTC supplier status downgrade rumored as CEO bets job on One success
HTC CEO Peter Chou has promised to step down if the HTC One is not a sales success, insiders claim, a dangerous commitment given reports that component shortages have scuppered the original launch plans. Chou put his neck on the line in a meeting with senior HTC executives late last year, sources close to the situation told the WSJ, only to find that HTC had been downgraded as a customer among suppliers and would struggle to secure enough casings, camera components, and other parts for the new flagship.
That’s the word from an unnamed HTC executive speaking to the newspaper, blaming the company’s fluctuating demands for phone parts in previous years for leaving the supply chain wary. “The company has a problem managing its component suppliers as it has changed its order forecasts drastically and frequently following last year’s unexpected slump in shipments” the exec explained.
“HTC has had difficulty in securing adequate camera components as it is no longer a tier-one customer” they concluded. The issue around the One’s camera is somewhat ironic, given the UltraPixel technology – which includes a custom-manufactured 4-megapixel sensor built to HTC’s specifications especially for the phone – is part of HTC’s key marketing message.
The company had originally intended to have the One on store shelves by mid-March, but was forced to rethink plans shortly before the intended launch date. Third-party retailers and carriers began complaining that the arrival of their expected stock had been pushed back to the end of March.
Meanwhile, HTC remains upbeat about its ability to get the One out almost on time, albeit perhaps not initially in huge numbers. “We…are working tirelessly with all of our channel partners to ensure that we can fulfill as many orders as possible” CMO Benjamin Ho said in a statement. “We will start fulfilling pre-orders by the end of March in certain markets and will roll out to more markets as we approach April.”
Chou isn’t the only person at HTC finding the company’s struggles are affecting their employment. The company supposedly froze year-end bonuses in 2012, leaving some to speculate that the money was instead being earmarked for a push in marketing around the One this year.

You really want to cause a flame war don't you?
Samsung will destroy HTC in terms of advertising.
There is no argument in that.

I'm just reporting the article. Why should this start a flame war? I have nothing against HTC, I like HTC phone(I often suggest them to people)
Edit: Actually the article says the phone are almost equally good. No trolling intent here. And the title is the title of the article

Are you f-ing kidding me. There's stock's lost 85% of its value in less than two years. That bonuses we're even being considered is horrifying and pretty much shows how out of touch with their current situation they are. And possibly even running a multi-billion dollar business as a whole. Wow.
Anyway, they can close the thread if they want. If you read the article you will see it is worthy news and it is not trolling. XDA is a sharing information forum and I think this is worth sharing.

Expect further improvements as this is a pre-release software. The phone is expected to hit the retail market at around April last week. So, expect 3 more weeks of software optimization for the initial launch. New users may expect OTA waiting for them just as they setup the phone.
The color depth on that flower is pretty incredible.
