Ruby or Hercules? Why? - General Questions and Answers

Similar specs, launch, HTC Vs Samsung, which one are you getting and why?

SGS2 because of the SAMOLED+. I cannot go with an inferior screen being as that is what most of my phone experience is based around. I have tried the Evo and a couple others that are similar to the vibe but cannot handle the lower quality screen.
Another note, I need my gorilla glass, the touch screen feels to coarse on non gorilla glass screens.

samsung FTW _/ i dont like the htc's

Probably neither, but if I were to choose, I'd go with the Samsung. I'll be keeping my Vibrant for quite a while, though.

Neither Qualcomm suckssss ballsssssss

Leaning toward Ruby at the moment. This Samsung Vibrant GPS bull**** has been too much for me. But I'll wait for reviews to be written before I decide for sure.

Don't understand why this was moved from Vibrant General Discussion to General Questions and Answers.
This isn't Q&A, I believe this was intended to be a discussion spurred by a question. And it's relevant to Vibrant owners specifically because the Ruby and Hercules are the next top-tier phones to be available to T-Mobile customers, and either a likely upgrade candidate.
Now this discussion will probably die in a forum it really doesn't belong in.

Was scratching my head on that as well. My main concern regarding Galaxy S II is Samsung's track record on updates which we all infinitely desire. HTC has proven they want the end users to enjoy their experience going much further then you'd ever expect Samsung too. I remember the specs and and thrills of the Galaxy S when it was announced. Only to be punched in the face by TMobile stripping features (FFC) as well as all the users who said don't do it Samsung drops support... only to see it happen. Due to the community the device did well and I have been happy for the most part but the Vibrant was never what it should have or could have been. Not sure I want to play that game again with Samsung for the price of a screen.

[Q] Why do Samsung users care so much about the Sensation?

I cant understand why they come on here or every youtube video about the Sensation and post how their Sgs2 is better?! like who cares!?! We like a phone that isnt made out of plastic!!
Does it make them feel better about their purchase when they post stupid stuff..
Why do BMW, M-B, and Audi owners compare their cars? Both HTC and Samsung positioned the Sensation and the SGS2 as their "flagships" giving everyone the right to be critical. If you look at the SGS2 board, all's not perfect. I think everyone's just curious to see how the Sensation compares to both HTC's hype and other recently launched high-end phones.
in short yes... they are in every thread praising the almighty sgs2... but anyway this thread is irrelevant and should be deleted
Two awesome phones being released at the same time makes people in the market to buy consider both phones. When you do that, you consider all the specs to what you desire.
Both phones are great. The problem is once people decide which phone they prefer, they defend why they believe one phone is better than the other. It sparks debate, then at some point it gets childish when people start calling names, defending a manufacturer or condescend others for wanting one phone over the other.
Not to mention, once you shell out any amount of $$$ for something you have to justify it. If someone is saying it's not worth it, that may spark a bit of emotion if you like said product.
To me, it's more damaging than it does good. Everyone needs to agree to disagree or just be content with their purchases. If there are benefits of one phone over the other, then fine. Share information and let everyone decide what they want on their own. No need to call people "trolls" or "fanboys" because they prefer one device over the other. It's silly.

Respectfully, you can just say all Samsung guys come over posting that the GSII is better, because it's there are a fair share of HTC sensation users that do the same, simply because of what the below/above/PREVIOUS post said. Generally (from what I've seen on other forums) ONCE you get the device, whether it be Sensation or the GSII, you tend to lay off the forums because you "contempt" with whichever phone you went for, because they're both beauties.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they put the Sensation down because they're trying to validate the purchase of the SG2. You have to admit, flaunting around your product, saying it's better, makes it seem better.
Who cares, Sammy just pist off htc release Sensation at the Same time as SGII. That's how bussiness is. Competitions..... Isn't great for us consumers? Plus im not dumb enough paying 750-800 for that plastic crap. Sensation 500 full retail and tons loads of dev.

This -well-analyzed- behavior is called "Cognitive Dissonance" , and yes, it makes them feel better, even superior to do so. =D
so long, waiting for the sensation to come out unbranded on the market in germany.
Sgs 2 owner here, but loved my htc hero before this. Was checking out the sensation and evo 3d before I went for the sgs 2.
I liked all these phones equally, there really is not much between them that it really matters.
but sgs was released just as my upgrade come up.
Still very interested in the sensation and how people are finding it, so is why i come to this forum.
personally I believe I would of been just as happy with the sensation. looks a fantastic device that will be even nicer with a few patches/upgrades.
The SII is a much better offering but it still has huge, glaring weaknesses in my eyes. The cheap plastic casing is a turn off, I don't like the buttons or the hardware design whatsoever (I detest it so much I wouldn't even use a free SII) and the UI looks absolutely horrible. And those are mostly just the cosmetic flaws.
It does some things right but at the end of the day, if I somehow acquired that phone I'd sell it in favor of getting another dual core like the HTC Sensation or Evo 3D.
Lol another fanboy thread. I see plenty of HTC fanboys in the Samsung forum. Starting a whole thread about this as well? We all know the mods don't care either, or are in with the game. Sorry that the Sensation isn't getting the type of buzz that the GS2 is and this forum is way smaller, so people have nothing better to do than speculate and start ****. Dogs pushed into a corner will bark louder. Would be nice if all the fanboys just choked each other to death, but then again it is a HUMAN flaw.

Interesting. So, I would think Sensation users don't care/compare Samsung or other products. That would be my question to the OP and other users.
EDIT: Why do you (OP) care about what others do? This is a forum, people will post and visit anywhere they like. If you don't understand this very simple logic, you better not use internet.

Enjoy your locked bootloader
Nah just kidding, both phones are class, just my personal preference is the GS2.
Wish the GS2 was made out of the same premium materials that the Sensation is made out of though

Don't we all!
Personally I spent about 3 weeks deciding between the SGS2 and the Sensation, both are obviously great products.
I must have read every review and comparison on the net.
In the end I chose the Sensation because I prefer the solid feel, HTC Sense, and I'll take resolution above screen brightness and vibrancy, but these are all matters of personal choice and I can understand why others would choose differently.
Each to their own and enjoy your phone whichever one you bought.
The SGS II fans are hoping more hackers get one so they'll get more support .
They also hope someone will port Sense 3.0 to the SGS II, but that's not going to happen .

This goes against the objective of the thread. It's blasphemous to think about other products as per OP. You are not allowed to compare other products.
[/s off now]
What I am more worried about is why so less posts/threads about the product. The GS2 forum was filled with comments, complaints, discussion and the internet was filled with topics/reviews/analysis. Sensation on the opposite seems so quite. Everyone wants to know about the phone and I can't wait to read more.

[Q] Newbie asking for device choice advise

Hi guys,
I am newbie to Android smartphones and tablets modding/hacking/ROMdeveloping and I am looking for the correct starting in this experience to optimize my learning curve.
What device should I pick? I am looking for the best compromise between these different factors:
-Large community support availability
-Hacking easiness (meaning a device most open as possible)
-Detailed guides availability
...
Every single advice is appreciated.
Regards
Okay, let's reformulate the problem differently.
Which devices has best community support on xda developers?
A thread in our forum stated that Samsung fascinate has good community support. Could that device be an appropriate starting point?
I appreciate your help xda developers!
It depends on what carrier you're gonna go with. The sprint evo probably has the largest community, looks like the evo 3d will be pretty big too. Not really sure about at&t and T-Mobile. Verizon hasn't had much lately that's been big, the original incredible has a pretty sizeable community, looks like the thunderbolt isn't bad either. Currently the phone to beat is the Samsung galaxy s2, it can only be used on at&t currently but should be coming to all carriers on the next couple months.
No money, i would recommend the sgs and if you have money to spend the sgs2.
Both are awesome devices with a huge and active community behind them.
I appreciate your help K_nivesout and Dark3n.
I gonna process this choices and come back to comment on them and choose one.
Probably this experience would help some people in the future

[Q] T-Mobile US SGS2 or SGS3?

Well, it's about time for a new device, and I'm weighing my options. I'm on T-Mobile US, and would like to stay there, as I have a really cheap plan and great service where I live.
I spoke to a CS representative last night, and he made me a deal for a SGS2 for $179 after $50 rebate. I really like the T-Mobile SGS2, but then again, the SGS3 is awfully tempting. Comparing the two, the biggest differences are the larger screen, extra gig of ram, S4 processor, and the gimmicks Samsung threw into the SGS3. However, I really hate the color choices on it, and it's a bit bigger than I'd like. I currently have an HTC Sensation 4g, and wouldn't mind having a bit bigger screen, but the SGS3 dwarfs my Sensation.
I really hate asking a "which phone" question, but I've never used either device before, and would like some feedback from folks who have owned them. I will definitely be rooting and flashing a custom ROM either way, but I'm just wondering what the real-world differences are, assuming they're running the same (or similar) ROMs. I've compared the two as far as features and specs, but I'm hoping someone can shed some light on how the two stack up against each other under regular use.
So what do ya think? Scoop the SGS2 up on the cheap, or take the plunge on the ugly blue or white hulk of the SGS3?
Sir, Please post questions in the Q&A section. But there is a thread for your topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846277
Thank You, Thread closed

[Q] Best phone for someone coming from the Nokia N9?

Hey everyone-
I recently purchased a Nokia N9 off of Ebay on a, in retrospect, misguided whim. I love the UI of the phone and how seamlessly the device allows me to switch from one app to another. However, despite my love for the phone, I still find myself missing Android and its ecosystem (I owned a Samsung Vibrant for a few years prior to this phone). Even though the N9 does the few core things I normally do on a daily basis really well, it's still missing of the basic apps I used to rely on for daily use; i.e. Tumblr, Instagram, Ebay, and Amason. So I decided to sell the N9 on Ebay but now I'm pondering which phone I should buy next. I probably want to stick with Android, but I'm not sure which device to go with. I'm leaning towards either the HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, however, I'm certainly open to other suggestions. I'm certain I don't wanna go with Galaxy S III because I hate the Touchwiz skin. If anyone out there has any suggestions for me I'm more than willing to hear them. Thanks.
-Sincerely, bobofosho123
P.S. I know for a fact that I'm not looking for anything with a contract, and I know I'll buy it without one since I'm on a grandfathered T-mobile plan.
Nexus all the way bud. Always up to date and great community support!

[Q] Recommendations for moving on from S2?

The main reason I'm considering this is because of the general anti-Samsung feeling, I'm not keen on staying with a company that doesn't respect the developer community any longer.
I'm not necessarily looking for the latest and brightest, just something similar to the S2 would be fine. I was thinking about the Xperia S but it seems that phone is not receiving CM 10.1 updates for some reason.
I'm open to manufacturers that have shown a bit of initiative and goodwill towards their customers. I remember seeing a talk with Steve Kondik and co. where he mentioned that SE were okay, has the situation changed much?
LG, maybe?

Truthfully, Samsung is one of the most developer friendly companies even though they do hold back certain things I would recommend you to never go to Sony because... (too many reasons, will take forever if I start to rant) but believe me I am fed up with their devices (used several and always their devices were inferior to others), other than Samsung I would only recommend LG.
