I just saw a video of a phone that is truly revolutionary and unbelievable. It's a concept of a Mozilla phone that if produced, could spell the end of others.
http://gizmodo.com/5824729/mozillas-making-a-cellphone-os-based-on-android
i saw this a year ago, thought the video would be a joke.. lol.
i wish this phone would happen xD
I want it.
i want one too looks veery nice the screen is maybe 3mm off the bottom...
but can it top the sgs2?
The concept is amazing o.o. I wonder if it can be produced in the current age. Even if it can, it'll probably cost a hell lot >.<. Maybe in a few years to come, it will be possible to produce on a large scale.
If even one prototype of this phone exists right now...I WANT IT!! =O!!
Hehe it looks very nice!
But by the time it "might be" out.. I think we will have better ones..
Hummm I'll pass.

Everything I saw is here today and just waiting to be implemented. The virtual keyboards have been here for a while now. The only difference there is coding a different style for projecting out of the sides. The mini-projector is here and in use today. The induction dock is a common Palm Pre item.
Everything I saw I know can be done right now. But the cost might be a bit restrictive.
It wont all fit in such a tiny package though.
I have seen this before as well, and I hope that this phone becomes a reality!
This junk is like 2 years old. It was never intended for actual production. Once again, Gizmodo is just grasping at smoke for bull**** stories.

Not only Gizmodo, then. Engadget is in on the game. I think the whole deal is more about the mobile OS than it is the concept phone. In all likelihood, the phone is just to show what the OS has plans of being able to do. Stuff like the projecting keypads is revolutionary enough for Apple to to raise an eyebrow in a moment of, "Hmmm...why didn't we think of that".
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/26/mozilla-planning-a-chrome-os-like-operating-system-for-phones-an/
Believe it when I see it...
It ok
Well when iphone 5 or maybe 6 comes out this thing will look ugly)
Absolutely amazing concept. I can not wait for this kind of tech to become reality. Welcome to the future!

Neat idea but too much goin on there. Probably would be way too expensive to be mass marketed.
Awesome hardware, too bad the phone itself would be running on something based on android.
shut uppp, that phone would be sick!!

Unfortunately this is the prevailing mindset in America today. We disregard our inalienable right to privacy by saying "spy away gov't, I'm not hiding anything!". It sets up a precedent which marginalizes the demand for privacy, desensitizing everyone from this right. Then, anyone who demands privacy appears to be hiding something when in reality, Uncle Sam has no goddamned business prying in my affairs without probable cause whether or not I am breaking the law.

You can't catch **** before it happens and want total privacy, doesn't work. Most Americans don't want tragedy to strike again, and this is why the American Gov't must impose this and that to make sure they cover themselves. Heaven forbid a day come where we see Pearl 9/11 2.0 and the government had the technology to prevent it, but didn't because it would "impose on the rights of the people".
Spy away... keep America safe. Simple logic, don't want something on your phone compromised? Don't keep it on your phone.

In order to prevent terrorism, freedoms must be bent. Fact of life in today's world. I understand the counterargument. It's just my choice to give up some of my freedoms to prevent terrorism. And I already have less freedoms than most of you as I'm an active duty US Military member.
This is basically an argument that no one can win, but it's always interesting to read others' opinions.

I was active duty military.
This is still BS.
What happens when every 10 years or so we give up just a little bit more of our freedoms for a false sense of security? Just a little more. I'm willing to give up just a little more. Repeat...and repeat....and repeat. Next thing you know they're all gone and your country has become a military state with little to no freedom of any kind. All for the sake of protecting the people, of course. Why don't we just take away everyone's ability to choose anything while we're at it. Then they'll be so much easier to manage and keep safe.
Freedoms should never be bent to protect freedom..

Hi all,
I have been a member of XDA since 2009 starting with a WM6.1 Samsung Omnia and then becoming a HUGE Android fan. I have much respect for all of the great DEV's here and for the community in general and as such but I would like to see your opinions on the following...
After being here for so long and seeing so many different issues with so many different devices...
Do you think that Manufacturers release devices that are "sub par" or "incomplete" (per say) on purpose because they know that there are MANY Developers out here and on other forums that will essentially fix these "shortcomings" for almost nothing?
What do you think? Please vote AND leave a reply for discussion.
Thanks...

I agree with this also. That was my point to this thread. It does not seem very professional to me however especially since these Manufaturers are now essentially sitting back and waiting for DEV's to finish or fix their software, etc...
There's nothing wrong with the devices, at least not all the time.
On Verizon the majority of issues are a result of all the bloatware and unnecessary processes that they set up the phones to run. Certainly Blur and Touchwhiz and what not don't help, but I don't think they're the major culprits. Roms sitting on top of them often run with few to no issues.
It's the carriers, not the manufacturers.

I agree with you on that but what about things like "the volume is too low", or "bad screen colour" and other defects like that? There are DEV's (Supercurio for example) who essentially take these types of issues and "fix" them essentially for free. Why cant the Manufacturers (Samsung in this particular example) just ensure that these issues are caught in the QA/QC stages before they ship their devices?
Dont get me wrong... I as a USER think its FANTASTIC that we have devoted DEV's that will do this for us but I also feel that it is the Manufacturers responsibility to ensure their products meet specific quality standards before they put their devices up for sale.
Well the case doesn't really apply to the sgs 2.
But I do wish we could get full sources.
$1 gets you a reply
Well, things like screen color issues definitely seem to be symptoms of a rush job. I don't understand how so many RAZRs could have green screens on low brightness and problems getting stuck in landscape and it was never noticed unless it got rushed out. Things like that should definitely be caught and corrected in the testing phase.
Fewer devices, more focus for the win.

Yes I agree, they sit back raking it in and put all there work into marketing more than the product while leaving the real work to the volunteers to put the missing pieces of the puzzle together.

OF Course! they just want to make quick money and most dont support their phone after a while.
I strongly believe they do! I can only imagine the amount of money they save not having to worry about the little things.
"Ohh you have problem XYZ with this device, well here we are three months later with a newer version with a fix for that. Now I know that it takes a lot longer then three months to get a phone ready and out the door but just take it from us we we able to do it..."
I see some people definitely agree with me on this. Keep the opinions coming...
I don't think they release incomplete devices. I feel as if they need to just push the device out on schedule, and if its complete great, if not, of well.

Doesn't that seem a bit "shady" though? And why do we as consumers keep on gobbling up these "defective" (some yes, some no) items and never do anything about it?
Ill be the first to admit it... When there is a new device out and I want it... I GET IT on impulse but still... for upwards of $600.00 per device that has ANY KIND of deficiency seems completely wrong for the manufacturers to be selling...

I didn't read the full thing but google has been doing this forever and then some. they even increased how detailed/how much data they collect with the new TOS they put out recently. I'm betting the only reason Verizon is drawing more fire is because of the phone aspect of it.

Who's had 4 years to fix said economy but has only steered it deeper into the hole. Obama has increased the national debt more in 4 years than Bush did in 8.
Now I'm not a Bush fan, I'm just saying Obama is bad news. Oh, as far as the Patriot Act, who renewed it once the majority of the terrorist alarm settled down years after 9/11??
I do agree the monitoring has been going on for a long time, but it has either taken steps that no one would before or at least taken steps publicly that every other regime did in secret. If it is just the same sh*t diff pile then doing it publicly is just a slap in the face to everyone. I'd rather they try to hide it then do it and blatantly step on our rights.
Oh, one more thing, who's given illegal immigrants more rights/help than the average American who is in need of help too?
I'm pretty sure most companies track your online habbits. They claim the use it for "market research". On my phone I'm not really that bothered by it, I don't do anything on it that I want to keep private, because I don't trust how private they are.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless you are embarassed you look at porn on your phone. Just keep things you would like to be personal and not tracked heavily on a properly secured connection at home, and possibly use TOR if you are that paranoid and want a little extra security.
Actually, I believe there is Tor available for android. It may help cut down on what they know your doing.

Hi Guys. I was wondering if there is any apps or method I could use to (block incoming) {know how to do this and out going calls and even mms if possible. I have this phone rooted and and running cm7. Its acctually a HTC inspire. However you guys in the HOX forum are my family
Reason behind this is my daughter is getting [email protected] grades. I think it is important in this day for a teenager to have comunications for emergency. I'd like to know how I can limit her from usage. ATT wants to charge me 5 bucks a month to do this.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
I never understood the rational behind doing something like that. Do you honestly think denying her the ability to use a phone is going to motivate her to spending her time actually studying? I know I wouldn't.
Sent from my HTC One XL
Rational is for every action there is a reaction. Good grades are required to have a cell phone. Bad grades = no cell phone.
Or choice if you like? Choose to have bad grades = choose to not have a cell.
I've taken it away. But would like her to have the opportunity in emergency to contact essential persons.

I guess I don't view negative reinforcement as an effective solution. Granted, I'm not a parent but I was more recently a teenager with bad grades. Well... Not that recent but you get the idea. I certainly don't mean to tell you how to raise your children and think I might be overstepping my bounds.
Anyway... I you can still dial 911 if you take the SIM card out on a lot of phones. She won't be able to call you but could still use the phone for emergency use only. Dunno of an app to do what you're asking unfortunately.

I understand you position. I was there once also. Everyone needs structure. Like android you need a breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. We try and structure Our enforcement like the society that they will eventually have to live in. Choice is the problem, and choice is the solution. There are good choices that have good outcomes and not so good choices..... you get the point, I hope. I also thought about my ten year old who has a galaxy phone. I don't want her calling anyone but family. We need a kiddie ROM

I'll run it by my daughter and see if she's OK with it. Like I said she picks the poison.

Letting your girl "pick her destiny" is good, at least I think so. I'm 20 year old now, and when I was getting in trouble in school and what not my parents would discipline as they saw fit. I was being extremely dumb and thought it was cool to do drugs(weed) but, because I was in soccer and working my way towards a soccer scholarship... My parent's didn't do a whole lot, I just got teh truck taken away from me for a few weeks, and I had to tell my coach if i ever wanted to get my keys back. He is like a second father to me, and he kept getting on me when I messed up at practice. I'll never forget certain moments at practice either... It was absolute hell but, I've never touched that stuff since. I've carried a 4.0 through my senior year, and currently have a 3.6 in my soph year of college. Scholarship is almost up, and now I'm looking to join the military. I can't thank my parents enough for the way they handled that. Most f the people that I have hung out with in high school are now dealers/arrested for possession with intent to distribute/pregnant... That list could go on forever.

To each his own. To me, what that stuff did to me, was bad. I say bad... Be cause it hurt me on the field. I am a gk, and it messed with my reactions and split second thinking/decision making. It effects people differently. One of my long time friends got arrested for possession with intent to distribute. It messed with my conditioning BAD. Before, I was able to run a mile in just over 7 minutes, for my body type that's pretty good. I am 5'10" 195#. My time slowly started to decrease... I look back and I will never be able to thank my parents and my coach enough.

I see where your coming from yeah Im center mid I played division 1 soccer which is the top around here... I say played because I had to get knee surgery from soccer over the summer and none months recovery so ill be back in June but I think im done with competitive play... My conditioning did get a bit worse which I can admit to while I was still playing.. as for the arrest I'm truly sorry ..nobody deserves tha for just this...here In california I think u have to 8 g on u to be held up for intent to sell... But I will stop when I have to settle down and be a consistent man in the real world.. I have no doubt you're happy you stopped ..sometimes I wish I didn't do it sometimes I just have that crave to chill out and sit back.. but like u said "to each his own"
Ya I tried it a couple times when I was younger. Just wasn't for me. I don't care if my kids experiment with it. They're gonna do that any way. Just don't want it to run or ruin their lives.

Experimentation is different than using, in my eyes. If I ever have kids, I say that because my little cousins are natural living birth control, I wouldn't scold them for being a teenager but like you said, I wouldn't let it run/ruin their lives.

So we strayed off topic... Kind of. The title does say off topic. but it was more of sharing stories of what parents did. At least, with me it is. Don't know about Omar
