Hey Guys!!
I live in India, and was thinking of getting the Sensation. Play.com has it for pre-order. But before I could get it, there's this question :
In India, the electricity is 220 volts AC. So, will the charger work on this voltage ? If not, is there any other way to work around it ?
Thanks !!
maxx
You can propably buy an MicroUSB-charger outputting 1A from India if needed?
I ordered my Nexus from USA to Finland, they have 110V and we have the same 220V as you, all I needed to do is I got a plug that converted the USA plug to Finnish one.
You might also want to take a look on Nokia AC-8 charger, it is quite high quality with great output.

In addition, all HTC wall chargers I have seen, their input voltage is from 100-240. Meaning that it'll work on any voltage.
Thanks for the answers both of you

I want to buy a phone from USA and i was wondering if it will be a problem when i`ll charge it in Europe
The problem i`m thinking about is Europe`s 220V electricity socket vs the US 120V
Just using a European charger for that phone should be enough, right?

the charguer of the majory of the devices are compatibles... you should to look at the specifications...
in US the electricity its running at 60 hz..in the rest at 50 hz...
in the charguer may stay written 50-60 hz accepted
and the voltage in theory all the charguers acept since 100v to 240v
no problem
and the most important thing... ensure you that the intensity (A) its the same in the output...
I've just bought this tablet from Amazon.de to be shipped to me in the UK - it's likely to come with a Euro style power adapter, so I need to buy a UK equivalent.
Can someone tell me what the specs of the adapter are?
I'm guessing 5v @ either 1 or 2 amps...?
Thanks!

The charger is quite special I think.
Attached is a picture of mine. (Euro.)
5v @ 2A or 15v @ 1.2A (Yes it has two ratings?)

I have no idea when it runns what though, or even what pins it applies it to. It may be some odd propriatary system...
Edit:
It seems to be related to USB 3.0 and some extra pin.
Normal USB 2.0 plugs will activate the 5v charge, while a USB 3.0 plug with some fiddly shorting or something can activate 15v.
More power through a thin wire
Edit2:
It's the same adapter as for the Prime apparantly.
Ok, cheers.
I guess I'll buy a travel adapter instead - I can use the original psu then, instead of trying to find a replacement straightaway.

The Nexus 5 comes with the same charger.
It shouldn't be too bad to find a Nexus 5 charger
As long as the charger has an output of DC 5V, 1.2A. and an input of AC 100V– 240V, any cable that meets this minimum specification it will work.
Check this out:

It's a bit pricey but you can find something similar with EU outlet plug.

Both fake, they don't have the signs which are required to sell electronic devices in EU

They are not designed to be used in the EU, since they have the American plug (flat), and not the rounded ones for the EU. The EU sign is "CE", the E being rounded like the C. But I wouldn't worry too much about that, any charger will do. These charger plugs, like laptop chargers, work between 100-240v, so you can use eg an American charger via a plug adaptor in the EU without problems
A charger will only supply as much current as a device requests. I have never seen my Nexus 4 pulling over c. 800mA, so any charger rated over 1.0A should be fine (for example a laptop will output 500mA, that is why it takes longer to charge from a laptop output. No harm done, just slower).
The original charger plug is rated at 1.8A fyi. Amazon do sell the original EU LG N4 charger plug, just look for it on your local site - or find one on eBay at 1/3 the price

But in your first post, you mentioned Amazon..?
Anyway, in short, any charger will do, Samsung or whatever. As I said, for something like this, you're best trying ebay.
Actually i have original nexus charger and its identical with those ones in links, i dont believe those are fake
Hello,
I just bought Anker PowerDrive+ 2 and it does show as quick charging and the max current shown by Ampere is 1.5 A.
Shouldn't it be more?
It charges at the same maximum rate as the stock charger UCH20, which is not QuickCharge 3.0 compatible.
Has anyone tested a QuickCharge 3.0 charger to confirm it works ok?
Thanks
Mmm I'm not an expert on this stuff but I get more from the charger that came in the box...

That is indeed dubious. It even states 1500 mA max USB current.
What model of charger did you have in the box?
Maybe it is something related to the buid version... Mine is 39.0.A.1.250
And it is maxed at 1590 mA
But my impression is that QuickCharge 3.0 should be at least 2-3 Amps

lucky!!!
In UK we got a slow 1.5 amp rated charger! Connected to any of my batteries or chargers i get 1.5 A max. I think it uses the mediatek pump 2.0 protocol primarily, so i've had to fork out another £30 for UCH12W (still waiting for stock to arrive for UK pins)

Oh sweet. I bought it on eBay from Hong Kong.
I live in Australia, I'm not sure what the local phones come with. I didn't pay too much attention but I don't think mine came with any earphones if that's any consolation. But yeah, loving the 64GB of on-board storage too

Yes, mine came with the earphones, which I actually really like. Got really used to the sound signature and my old ones which came with my Z1 were falling apart.
In the meantime I got to the bottom of this. There is no current sensor inside the phone, so that current is estimated based on charge readings from the battery.
When I used it today in the car with an Anker Quickcharge 3.0 it jumped 20% in 20 minutes, with screen on and GPS on. So I guess it is quickcharging at 3.0 speed
I have already ordered an honor 8 from US amazon, with a charger that has a US plug.
South Africa uses 220/230 volts AC 50HZ, 5 amp 2 prong with round pins.
I did some research and almost all modern chargers seem compatible with 220/230 volts. However I would just like to confirm that it will work with just a physical form adapter.
Also in the Q&A it said:
Question:
Brings turbo charger with it? Is it compatible with 220V of south american countries?
Answer:
The phone comes with a 9 V 2 A high voltage quick charger. It also supports 5 V 2 A chargers (for Indian markets). Make sure you buy an official Huawei 9 V 2 A charger; unofficial quick chargers will not work properly. If you need a quick charger, you can buy one from Huawei Vmall or official Huawei experience shops. We do not recommend using a 220 V charge on the phone. (NS)
Is there a reason why the seller is recommending not using a 220V charge? Or is it just to cover their ass?
I've been trying to look for a genuine Huawei usb c quick charger in South Africa to no avail... If anyone can also help me out there, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Looking forward to your responses.
Not sure on the US chargers as I always use UK or European charger which work on 110 / 240 v, so if you had one of these it would not be a problem.
I should imagine the US also acts this way 110/240 volts and all you would need is a mains adapter as you stated.
