Power Adapter Specs... please! - Asus Transformer TF700

I've just bought this tablet from Amazon.de to be shipped to me in the UK - it's likely to come with a Euro style power adapter, so I need to buy a UK equivalent.
Can someone tell me what the specs of the adapter are?
I'm guessing 5v @ either 1 or 2 amps...?
Thanks!

The charger is quite special I think.
Attached is a picture of mine. (Euro.)
5v @ 2A or 15v @ 1.2A (Yes it has two ratings?)

I have no idea when it runns what though, or even what pins it applies it to. It may be some odd propriatary system...
Edit:
It seems to be related to USB 3.0 and some extra pin.
Normal USB 2.0 plugs will activate the 5v charge, while a USB 3.0 plug with some fiddly shorting or something can activate 15v.
More power through a thin wire
Edit2:
It's the same adapter as for the Prime apparantly.

Ok, cheers.
I guess I'll buy a travel adapter instead - I can use the original psu then, instead of trying to find a replacement straightaway.

I'm just using a travel adaptor with mines, will wait for a UK realease to get a proper one

Usual Car charger vs. USB Car Charger

It is not a secret, that charging over data cable is slower, rather than over electrical plug. I think it is due to USB max current is 500mAh, while my direct charger output in 1000 mAh.
I wondering if the same is relevant to car chargers. I'm having the one of so-called USB Car Chargers, which has the USB plug as output, than you connect it to your phone thru the data cable.
If I buy a usual mini-usb car charger, would I get any benefits in charging speed?
Thanks.
usb max current is 500ma on the spec, you can draw much more than that over the copper.. as long as it's not being regulated by "compliant" circuitry/drivers, you should be able to draw 1000ma
Ive been looking into this tonight, and I checked my GF's iPhone wall charger (which is basically a wall USB charger) and it outputs 1000ma as well, and ive found a few usb car chargers putting out 700, 800, and even over 1000ma... only problem i have is i need it to be compact... i currently have a 500ma one in the car but that didnt seem to really charge the phone...

The reason I am asking is similar:
When I am driving with gps and 3G turned on my phone is never fully charged. In fact, it seems it even uncharging a bit. I am wondering if the same happening with usual mini-usb car charger.
And if I want to buy new on ebay, they never specify the mAh parameter.
I bought a 1000mAh USB car charger for a couple bucks at monoprice.com.

same here... when i have the turn by turn going on full brightness and such it does uncharge a bit over time... but look on the bright side, its not getting raped as much as it would be if it were just using the battery

Product ID-3523, Car Charger (Cigarette Lighter) to USB Female Converter - Black $1.16
You might want to email them and ask when they'll have them back in stock.
you can find them on ebay

[Q] Does the Dock come with a own charger?

Hi @all!
I was finally able to order an Eee Pad Transformer out of UK. It should arrive in the next days
Now as you perhaps know, the grid in Germany is different from the one in the UK and I'll have to use a travelling adapter or USB to charge the Transformer. No problem so far, but in the long run it's still a little cumbersome...
So do you guys know if the docking station comes with an extra charger/power supply? That would be cool because I'll order that one in Germany and I wouldn't have to use the travelling adapter all the time.
Additionally, does anyone know what the docking station will contain besides the keyboard?
Regards

Just to clarify - it's not the "grid" that is different in Germany; both have ~220-240 V. It's the outlets that are different. Definitely get a charger since I read that USB charging takes forever!

@funnycreature: thx for clarifying, that's what I wanted to say And yes I already read that charging via USB is a pain in the @ss. I already have an adapter, I just want to know if the docking station'll come with another one when I buy it in Germany.
@Magnesus and psinno:
Ebay First I bought via borderlinx by a subsidiary from Comet (don't know the name right now since I'm at work) but they cancelled my order because they ran out of stock (as well as Comet i think).
But I was lucky and got the only one in ebay that was shipped from UK. All others are from Taiwan right now, meaning very high custom fees and such crap.
I think how it works is that you just use the adapter and usb cable that came with your eee pad, and that plugs into the keyboard dock. And then obviously you put the tablet into the dock to charge up the main pad. I dont think there is an extra charger involved. So in your situation you will just need a normal UK>euro adapter. I doubt anyone other than reviewers have the keyboard dock yet, but from the videos/pictures I've seen this is how it seems to work.

Thx for clarifiing!
Now something different: Can I charge my Transformer with an X10 USB->supply adapter (EP-700)? Output is 5V, 700mA, the Transformer needs 15V, 1.2A. Don't really know how this would affect the device, will it just charge slower or will it damage my battery?

It will charge it much, much slower. That output is basically the same as a usb port from a computer.

It's a little higher I don't care about the speed, but the Transformer I bought is completely drained and USB driver fails to install. And since the original charger doesn't work with German power supplies, I need to charge it otherwise. Thx!

It's not a little higher in voltage though, which is what matters. The lower the voltage difference, the less current flow.
First the power supply needs to be a high enough voltage, but not too high to where the internal circuitry cannot handle it. Then the current value is how much current the charger can supply. This generally matters most with something that is hooked up 100% of the time, like a desktop, or a laptop which you are running from the charger.
I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with German power. It should be the same as adapting to any European supply, just need a physical adapter.
A picture is worth a thousand words so... pic from the manual attached.

[Q] Charger for the TF

Anyone know where I can get the charger for the TF that's cheaper than $30? The cheapest place I could find seems to be officedepot.com.

I haven't seen anything any cheaper. So if you really need it then I would cough up the $30 & be done. I have seen them as much as $50.
Oh, you need the wall wart. You'll have to cough it up, as far as I can tell. I tried using the one from my Droid and it wouldn't charge, so just any wall adapter won't do.
You might find one on ebay as a last budget resort.
I could be wrong, but I read somewhere (probably here) that the charger just has to be able to give 12V for the transformer to charge correctly. So a switchable power-supply that supports 12V output and has a usb female plug should work fine. I have the Goobay NTS 1500 MW in my amazon wishlist (in Germany) and only wait for an occasion to order. But check on it before buying or wait until someone comes and confirms this. I'm sorry that I can't give you a link...
Excluding the DIY charging stuff we have posted around here, or cooking up sth able to do the job, I don't think you're going to be able to find anything. Maybe eBay or shopping.google.com at best, might have sth cheaper.
Last time I was in Fry's and saw the price, I was happy mine has had the easy life.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk
I was at Costco the other day and saw a bundle for a surge protector that included one that goes flat against the wall, but it also had 2 USB charging ports. Not sure what the voltage would be...hmmm...maybe I should go check it out, that is if you don't do it and report back before me......it was only like $15.
The TF101 uses the extra pins associated with USB 3.0, so any cable you use should be 3.0 not 2.0.
Yes, that's true. But I believe this is only important if one wants to use an extension cable to extend the length of the original cable. If you use the original cable and plug it directly into a USB-port it shouldn't matter whether it is USB 2 or 3 as long as it supplys 12V DC

Wouldnt the charger port be missing some of the pins (potentially)
Well, I originally read about using foreign chargers with the TF on transformer forums and just looked for the source again. Since I am not yet allowed to post links, I'll just give you the quote:
Something like this will work: Dynex™ - Universal AC/DC Charger for Cameras and Camcorders - DX-UA Not sure if you are near a Best Buy. It has to output 11 V minimum and have a USB connector. Folks over at xda-developers have confirmed this is a substitute and will work.

You should be able to use another phone's wall adaptor, so long as it transforms down to the proper amperage.

Indeed, the stock charger is 100-240V, so all you really need is a simple adapter plug.

Power bank with built-in Type-C cable?

Does anyone know of any power banks with Type-C with a cable built into them? I can find a lot of them for MicroUSB and Lightning, but none for USB-C. (I ask because my previous phone had wireless charging, so I used a Qi power bank to avoid having to bring a cable with me, but I can't do that anymore.)
Bump.

Interesting product, shame it doesn't have a built in cable though
Have a look at eg. the iVoler 10000mAh Power Bank. This one doesn´t have a built in USB Type C cable but it offers a small cable which fits in every pocket. I guess that this is still better than nothing?

Yes, a Type-C version of that is exactly what I'm looking for. At this point, I'd even be happy with a MicroUSB one that had a slot to keep a MicroUSB-to-TypeC adapter in (like how some now have slots for MicroUSB-to-Lightning adapters).

Prior to owning that powerbank, I had this, which I later gave away to a friend with an iPhone. I'm wondering now if it's possible to just buy the USB C adapter and bin the lightning one that comes with it. Worth a try perhaps?

I thought about that too, but I'm worried that a type-C adapter won't fit in the Lightning slot since it's bigger.

I think you misunderstand. This thread is not about finding a powerbank that have USB C port on it. It's about finding a powerbank that have a USB C cable permanently attached to it. Something like this, but USB Type-C:

I purchased Aukey power bank from amazon several months ago.. the specs are the following: 30000 Mah, 2 usb type A ( one of them supports qc 3.0) and usb type c slot, microusb port is for charging purposes. I'm very satisfied with the product and I recommend u to take a look at it.
