Red screen after boot - Omnia 7 - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
My problem is, as u can see in the title, sometimes after switching my phone on, it simply gets stuck after the Samsung Omnia logo... After the logo comes a totally red screen and nothing more happens... It stucks... When I push the windows button, the other to buttons light but that's it... The only way I get it pass the red screen is to disassemble the battery wait 10 sec and put it in again... Can anyone help? Or is there anyone having the same problem?
Thx for the replies!

This is a common issue if you apply the 32bit display hack. In most cases you have to reboot the phone 1 or 2 times and then it works fine again. The alternatives are to remove the 32bit hack and/or to wait for mango (this problem will be adressed in the mango update).

Thx! Problem solved think I'm gonna wait for mango

No problem . I've had the same issue...and found the cause/solution of the problem here on xda. I'm gonna wait for mango too, the banding issue is not that big of a deal

I want to revert the 32bit hack but I don't remember what was the "factory" registry data.
Can someone write it here, please?
HKLM\Drivers\Display\Primary\PrimBPP dword ? (or non-existent?)
HKLM\Drivers\Display\Primary\bpp dword ? (or non existent?)
HKLM\Drivers\Display\Primary\PanelBPP ? (or non-existent?)

PrimBPP - Doesn't exist in my registry
bpp - Doesn't exist in my registry
PanelBPP: type: string; data: dcILSI_S6E63M0X01.DLL
By the way: I didn't apply the 32bit hack or change any values, so this should be the original registry entries Hope it helps

I confirm these are the exact values on my 7392 Focus, no 32bit gradient hack.

Many thanks!
It's strange, I don't remember to have a string like dcILSI_S6E63M0X01.DLL
on PanelBPP.

Well, as long as it isn't depending on the phone model, those values must be right

Wifi problems? - Try this

MAny people telling about problems with wiffi turn on:
- Not available by clicking on "g"
- not available to remap to hardwarebutton
- Not recognizing after pushing by commmanager
This comes up in several ROMs and I mentioned a soulution in many threads.
For some it works, for some not.
Just give it a try:
HKLM\Comm\TnetWln1\Parms\HTCPreloadStatus --> 1
HKLM\Comm\TnetWln1\Parms\HTCPreloadWifi --> 1
and check if WifiInit.ink is in \windows\startup folder.
Please tell me with which ROM it works and for which not.
Thank you.

This did the the trick for me running NottoSmart Vanilla. I had wifiinit.lnk in startup, it was the reg key values that did the trick for me.
I don't have any SPB programs installed, although I did try one out, but then uninstalled it, so maybe that is what "broke" itm since I know wireless was working when I installed the ROM. I currently have the following programs installed if that helps...
Voice Command 1.6
Pocket Mechanic
Sharkey Softkey Changer
JamDat Worms
Registry Wizard
Battery Status 1.3 beta
Live Search
TOtal Commander
CorePlayer
CoolCamera
Treo Picture dialer
SP TimeSync
PQzII Wizard
Phone Alarm with B&W Pure skin
Foxit PDF
Tascal CloseAll
THANKS!!! for figuring this out!
Just to be sure, are the correct values in HKLM\Comm\TnetWln1 key or in HKLM\Comm\TnetWln1\Params?

Sorry to all searching the wrong settings - now it is right in first post.
Here's the cab file for those who doesn't want to search registry. If there's no improvement, simply uninstall it to restore previous state.
HTCPreloadStatus doesn't stick?
In my current ROM HTCPreloadWiFi is already set to 1 and HTCPreloadStatus is set to 0. If I change HTCPreloadStatus to 1, exit the Registry editor, leave it for a while and soft reset it always reverts back to 0. I have verified the change is being made by exiting the Registry editor and then opening it again and checking and it does indeed say it's set to 1. However a soft-reset later and it's back to 0.....

Here is my experience. I was having intermittent inability to enable WiFi. Sometimes this was rectified with a soft reset, other times not. I checked the two keys and they were both set to zero.
I applied the changes and re-booted after waiting awhile. I noticed that the WiFi came on after reset without having to enable it. I am running mUn with the collected fixes from NotTooSmart.
I have since toggled and re-toggled and re-booted my Wizard and all seems well. However, HTCPreloadStatus is set to zero on mine regardless of whether the WiFi is on or not.
It is all working though.

Thanks for this and the pointer to the 10 button comm manager screen. After installing the new comm manager, doing the reg fix for that, and then applying this cab, it appears my Wifi starts up each time with no issues (in the minimal testing I've done over the last couple of hours).

Hi there m8. I just couldnt install the new comm manager. I just upload it to my device and try it to install in the main memory but i just cant.
This is weird. :s
Any advice ???
Yep, that is weird. Went right onto mine with no issues, and I'm also running XPlore 1.1. Have you tried doing a soft reset and then loading it again? Maybe putting the cab directly on your phone and then running it from your phone?
Yes... that did it.

I realized I was having the same problem, came back and, VOILA, there is already a solution to the problem of the solution!
However, I seem to be a little dense today but I cannot figure out what 10 button comm manager screen was pointed to.
based on the screen shots from the following post and using google I found this post in the Hermes forum that seemed to have the file specified, but I wanted to check before I installed something ported from the trinity to the hermes on a wizard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1207712
Also, this may be mild hijacking, but has anyone tried the other cabs in that post, specifically the sim manager and bluetooth file transfer?

Uh, isn't the commmanager question directly related to the thread since it was proposed as a solution to not have the registry values persist?

The commanager was asked for by people using xplore and don´t like green commmanger.
It might be a soulution.
Everything what would help is wellcome. But the thread started to get bigger and bigger discussion several problems.
It was started to evaluate the function of the registrysettings.

Right, and it was determined that the registry settings work, but only temporarily, since they go back to 0 after a second soft reset. from what I understood, installing the different comm manager either allowed the settings to persist or made them irrelevant, which is why I thought a discussion of taht belonged in this thread. Am I completely wrong in the above assumption?

That was mentioned by me.
To your question. My settings stay even after softreset. Do you change it and turn off device by powerbutton for 5seconds? For this ever works regarding to reghacks.
Didn´t wanted to stress you. Discussion is the way this forum lives!

Yes, thats the one. But for the wizard there is a reg key you have to remove or it breaks your Wifi. Please look at the XPlore thread for discussion on this (or as suggested, start a new thread specifically about the 10 button comm manager. It probably needs a seperate thread anyway).

Comm Manager - missing discriptions for icons?

I read somewhere this may be due to a system font being replaced but I have not installed any new software in weeks.
Anybody know how to recover? I can't afford a hard reset.
Descriptions, But no icons or background
Maybe our problems have the same cause. The comm manager wizard worked for me before on my 8525. Then updated to WM6 and now it installs partway and stops. Message is "not enough permissions". I get the text for the buttons, but not the icons or background. Also can't afford a hard reset.
Would rather have your half of the problem. At least you can still see the keys.
Update. I was able to fix the problem.
At: http://blogs.conchango.com/stuartpreston/archive/2005/11/10/2376.aspx
found directions. Have included them below as modified to fix my particular problem.
The following reg editor at the blog site did not do the job on my 8525. RegEditSTG http://blogs.conchango.com/stuartpreston/files/regeditSTG.zip
I used the reg editor at here:http://www.8525software.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,27/func,fileinfo/id,86/
Followed the directions for what keys to fix in the link above. Reinstalled the comm manager "CommManager_8button_wizard.cab" and it works well. Looks good, too.
The reg edit I used works on the 8525 remotely from the PC. Just unzip and execute with the 8525 connected. Change the security policies as follows:
Navigate to HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\
Write down any entries you change, before you change them.
Delete the entry you need to change.
click add DWORD and insert the correct values in the dialog on the PC's screen.
Change "00001001" value to 1 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 2)
Change "00001005" value to 40 (decimal) (recovery note: default is 16)
To fix the security policy, I changed only ...005 to 40.
Reboot device.
I believe WM6 is taking on the same baggage as PC Windows, so that this type of fix will become the norm instead of the exception.

Hi I have problem permanently hide SIM contact.
I used registry editor and made this chage:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone

It works perfectly until I made soft reset. After soft reset went the value ShowSim back on 1 and I see the SIM contact again.
Am I doing something wrong ? I made many others changes in registry which are without change after soft reset.
Please help.

You can hide contacts with Advanced Config It really works even after soft reset...
This is strange, bud I tested all and it comes allways back on "1" after soft reset.
Do I need to do some unlock to be able make changes in HKEY_CURRENT_USER ? Other modifications in registry was permanent...

I'm lost, I've tried this just now and again they keep coming back I really don't know what else to do now
It MUST be performed like this (try to not ommit any step)
1.Change known registry value to 0
2.Install NikiSimFix patch
3.SHUT DOWN TP - don't perform Soft Reset - SHUT DOWN TP.
Now....it works

No I didn't try that one because I don't want to erase everything on my sim...
Just a precaution....because if someday ( only god knows when ) my device crashes of whatever....I will loose all my contacts....and that's something i do not like...
@ offtopic in dutch:
hehe, jah leuk eh. Maar ik denk dat wel meerdere van hyves hier op t forumpje zitten hoor .
it does not erase your simcard haha! (that would be stupid) it just stops your device from constantly looking @ your simcard and make double contacts in your phonebook
(but it never hurts to make a backup just in case..... Don't you have your contacts sync. in outlook???)
no solution mentioned above working here either. nicksimfix wouldn't do it
For those who can't get this working, which ROM are you using? NikiSimFix worked fine for me on the stock ROM, but I've tried everything on DCS V13 and V14 ROMs and nothing works.
Interestingly if you make the registry change and you don't use TouchFlo 3D then this is fine, but as soon as TouchFlo starts the SIM contacts reappear. What I have found is that if you make the registry change after a soft reset the SIM contacts will remain hidden until the next soft reset (or until you manually restart TouchFlo).
I made a .reg file to do this quickly (below), but I would still rather find a permanent solution.

Just wondering before i try and flash my Mozart...
Has anyone on here with the NoDo rom been able to unlock and sideload?? .....
cheers

as of now that isn't possible .

just wanted to make sure before i did it!!
But... nah, i think ill hold off, as i dont see it being cracked any time soon.... lol
Out of curiosity, couldn't some phones like the lg optimus 7 with direct access to the registry through mfg manually change the registry to label the device as a developer model? Because the way I see it, registry access = full system override. And I don't think the software update can/will remove the lg engineer app.

Actually YES - I know this from personal experience. I did not change my phone over and unlock it untill AFTER I got NoDo. I use the LG Quantum and it has MFG. Below is what you need to unlock, at least with the quantum.
You can unlock the phone by using the MFG registry editor.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Comm\Security\LVMod"
Set your input key to "DeveloperUnlockState" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return a "0" or a random long number. If it does continue.
Set your input data box to "1" and hit SET. Output result should be 1
How To Keep Your Phone Unlocked
You can keep your phone unlocked and prevent Zune from re-locking it.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg"
Set your input key to "PortalUrlProd" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return data. If it does continue.
Keep your input data box empty and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Keep this screen open and continue to Part 2
Part 2
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg"
Set your input key to "PortalUrlInt" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return data. If it does continue.
Keep your input data box empty and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Backout to the password screen and shutdown the phone via powerbutton.
Reboot and sync. Your phone should stay unlocked.
Also worth noting, on any phone: if you unlock and do the registry hack to prevent relocking before updating to NoDo, the unlocked state will persist across the update as long as you don't hard-reset. It will, however, not be possible to re-unlock if you do hard-reset the phone after updating at this point, unless you have the aforementioned LG. I'm sure someone will come up with another method that works for NoDo eventually, but it hasn't been done yet.

Yup. I just updated my phone today. I had registry tweaks done to prevent relocking while it was on 7004. After update, phone is still unlocked
Will the method that jlott069 posted work with my LG optimus 7?
Thanks in advance
I have HTC 7 Trophy with latest update :7.0.7392 (I guess it is NoDo). Can I use the method proposed by jlott069 on it to unlock it or is it for LG? And Can I do it now or do I rollback the update?
Thanks
the method was originally posted by airwa1kin7 here. This works on all LG WP7 phones, no other devices. On LG phones this works even after you updated to NoDo and your phone happens to be locked. Follow the instructions and you will unlock your phone and keep it unlocked before and after NoDo.

Apologies, you're quite right. Not sure how I missed that.

remove 10 apps limit vol 2

I've got unlocked optimus 7 nodo , could anyone send me a path or smth i have to edit in registry (Mfg) that will allow me to install more than 10 apps ?
I know we've got a xap that makes it possible , but it seems not working on optimus 7 ..
HKLM \ Software \ Microsoft \ DeviceReg \ Install \ MaxUnsignedApp
That's correct, but it seems (personnaly) that on Optimus 7, it always return back to the old value, so you can install more than 10, but always go back to registry to modify before another installation.
Can you confirm?
What value did you set it to...The problem is on an Optimus 7, you cannot enter Hex values. You MUST turn them into decimal values before entering them into the phone. So, in the follow key, through the MFG app registry editor on the Optimus 7, enter it as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\ Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:2147483647
The number is the decimal value for the actually needed key 7FFFFFFF.
This has solved my problem, and make sure you have set the proper values to prevent relocking when syncing with Zune.
From time to time, the value get back to the original state, like the chevron relock issue.
Just reset the value before installing a new app.
BTW, you don't have to set so high value... 1000 is enough even in decimal
Thanks Nico & Kapanak.
I didn't change any values related to prevent relocking, as I have a dev unlocked phone (can I try this hack? I'm affraid of breaking the "dev status").
Nico, did you try relocking hack?
Custom Theme for Wp7
I have a samsung focus flash, and this app wont stay open long enough to do anything, please help
since your phone is on Nodo upgrade use the windowbreak project and you will be good to go it is all done for you then.
@TheBeO: It's OK to use the "prevent relock" hack even with official dev unlock. I strongly recommend you do so, as otherwise you'll have to manually re-interop-unlock (set the MaxUnsignedApp value) all the time.
It's easy enough to undo the prevent-relock thing, just restore the string values (the original values are on the forum somewhere, though of course you can just write them down before clearing them yourself).
