I took the plunge and ordered a g2x. I'm coming from a mytouch 4g that has 768mb of ram (running cm 7) how is the free ram holding up on the g2x since it only has 512? Thats the one thing im most concerned about.
Anyone coming from a device that had more than 512 and is seeing a noticeable difference? When I had my g2 I was lucky if I had 80 megs of free space. With my mt4g with 768 I always have at least 200 sometimes 300 megs free

With linux/android free ram is wasted ram, it will free up memory when it's needed otherwise just let it chill and do it's thing.
Seems snappy so far. One slowdown last night though not sure what was contributing. Great phone!
This phone is pretty quick. I don't monitor things like how much ram is used or available unless there is an issue to troubleshoot. So far, no issues as far as performance is concerned. Even when launching multiple apps and not closing them. It appears that android is doing what it's supposes to.

According to Advanced Task Manager, there is about 200MB available to me upon startup. It's not too bad, and I don't have to intentionally kill apps (unless they go rogue and keep the GPS on for some reason). It's just enough, but I'm hoping CM7 frees up a bit more.
Linux by nature doesn't require a bunch of free RAM sitting around. 512MB seems to be plenty, I've had numerous apps running together and haven't seen many hiccups at all.
Keep in mind the G2x doesn't even have 512MB RAM. 128 of those is reserved for the GPU so the phone runs with just 384MB RAM. I am a little worried, come a year or so down the road, but for now it seems to be more than enough.

I only wish I could afford to do that. Unfortunately, I won't have $500 to plop down on a new phone any time soon so I had to pick a phone I think will last the full 22 months until I'm eligible for another upgrade. I still went with the G2x. I think it will be fine, so I hope I'm right.
I'll be getting a Sensation later today but I'm wondering, does it feel like a dual-core phone? Does it feel fast in applications, web browsing, and day to day usage? Some reviewers say it doesn't which is kind of sad considering all the horsepower this thing has.

SGS II may feel faster due to hardware acceleration (Edit: for web browsing) and its simple and stock-looking environment (not too many nice animations on touchwiz 4).
Sense 3 is a pretty heavy environment, with rich graphics and animations. Still, all animations are ultra-smooth and environment or web browsing is pretty fast to me, (comparing it with my previous single core galaxy s.)
Still, SGS II may feel faster, but the 4.3" qHD screen and Sense 3 are some big advantages of sensation that made me go for it. anyway, extremely happy with my purchase.
Edit: did i mention the look and feel of the device? I love it
Hope this helps
Does it feel faster than my Nexus One? Yes.
Does it feel twice as fast as my Nexus One? Not even close.
I can't wait to see how this baby runs on without the heavy Sense UI.
Hey arcadia. Once you start using it you will notice how fast it is. And for it to be running resource hog sense then yes it does . Just install a stock android launcher. Then you will see what I'm taking about.

I've only had this phone for one day, I think this is the fasted android device I've ever used. The UI is butter smooth despite the Sense overlay and with only 170 mb of free ram.
I'm still shocked that it takes less than 10 seconds to power on!

Only 170mb of free RAM? How is that possible? Do you have a lot of stuff running in the back ground? That kind of scares me because I might be giving my G2X to my wife and getting this phone but the G2X has less RAM than the Sensation but my G2X has 242mb of free RAM.
I think that is because the g2x doesn't have sense 3.0. Once you switch to another launcher and/or once we get a root and start getting custom ROMs, I think we'll see increase RAM available for the users.

Nope, Gingerbread does not but Honeycomb does and Ice Cream Sandwich will. Also he is wrong. The SGSII is not hardware accelerated. Only the browser on it is which makes it pretty quick. The UI isn't accelerated though.

Will the task manager show 150 to 170 mb of ram free out of 558 mb when the phone is powered on. I don't have many widgets running on different screens. I think this is because the phone is shipped with 768mb of ram instead of 1Gb, and Sense is very ram intensive.
BUT, so far I’ve not ran into any slowdowns due to lack of ram, I’ve pushed the phone quite heavily since I got it. I was downloading video podcasts, market apps, browsing multiple websites and listing to music at the same time. I didn’t notice any slowdown or lag when switching between apps.
This phone is about 1/3 faster than an overclocked Galaxy tab running custom Gingerbread ROM, and much smoother than a stock Honeycomb on 3.01.
I played with the SGII, but I prefer the form factor of the Sensation, the curved back make the phone much easier to handle.
P.S. Attached a photo to show the amount of available ram after a fresh reboot. I'm not complaining as I've not encountered a low ram situation. I've set the phone to notify me if the free ram drops to less the 40 mb, so far no warning yet.
Never mind, the phone shows 315mb free and 180 mb used in running services under applications setting. Sorry for the confusion, don't trust what the task manager is reporting.

You are thinking of internal storage. All variants of the Sensation have 1 GB of internal memory and 768 MB of RAM.
To the people complaining that they only have 150 MB of available RAM = That is how Android works. It loads as much as deemed necessary into RAM to speed up launching of applications. If you consider this approach, more RAM available = less applications ready to go = slower phone.

well i think you should do it its worth it because you getting a newer phone with 4g and dual core plus i advice you to flash the miui rom after you get it this rom is the best it lets you use so many themes and locksscreen then any other rom plus it looks so much HD
To be honest I would rather have the Nexus S. ROM's are more stable. There's still some bugs here and there for CM7 on G2x, but they're still very stable. Plus you're guaranteed ICS. Dual core is cool, but nVIDIA doesn't release drivers so that sucks.
Up to you though. Just be weary, there might be a reason he's trading his G2x.
Powered by a G2x
As much as I enjoy my G2x, I wouldn't.
To answer your question, I don't think it's safe considering how many issues the G2x came with, not that many weren't software-based and can't be fixed, I just imagine that if he is selling it, he might be having an issue that he feels he can't fix. Or maybe it has an issue that is truly not fixable.
Regardless, your Nexus S is legit. We truly can't take advantage of two cores until ICS.
Haha OK. So after all that I decided to go for it. LOL. So... I guess a hello to the forums is in order .b
I've had the phone running for a while now... no issues.not even screen bleed. Solid as a rock, the only
thing is sometimes the browser force closes... I can live with that. I'm hoping I got lucky. Lol

Although the Inspire 4G will not get its own version of ICS it is looking like the Telus Desire Hd is expecting the update on July 25th. Lmao...yeah its been mentioned around here way to many times really.

After a good argument by the OP, I will re-open the thread and see how it progresses.
Keep in mind, the DHD has it's own thread. And if this turns into a DHD specific thread, I will delete it. Post your comments in the correct forum.
Thanks MD. As many do and SOME do not know there is a big difference between the European Desire HD forum and what the Telus Desire HD has to offer. This is the appropriate forum. A Telus Desire HD ROM means a ROM that will work 100% on the Inspire without need for porting or modification.
Just came across this on another XDA section about a different phone where it was gladly welcomed. Again this IS NOT just another DHD getting ICS thread.
Telus based ICS ROMs will be the way to go. If you are S-OFF, for ICS ROMs I strongly advise flashing the Telus ICS radio, and to flash the appropriate RIL to go with it every time you flash a new ROM.

The official specs on HTC's site state that the Inspire has 4GB and the DesireHD has 1.5GB. So does the manufacturer not even know what they put in their phone? I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just wondering why many people are contradicting what the manufacturer says.

God this discussion gets old. BOTH have a 4GB storage space on there. This leaves both with ~1.5GB of user space left which ATT even takes up space. It is an interpretation problem with the specs. You can argue as much as you want, this is what is physically inside both phones when you disassemble them. 4GB before and ~1.5GB after, those two web pages were probably written by a different engineer when given to the website manager.
Get a cheap sd card and dont worry about it lol
It's AT&Ts doing, really. Look at the pagez for the Vivid and One X. The Vivid is said to have 16GB. That is true, however, really when you open the box and turn it on you have 3.81GB for apps, and 8.83GB for phone storage, totalling 12.64GB. The rest is taken up by Android and various preinstalled bloatware. The One X is setup very similarly. What is listed and what you have out of the box are different, but AT&T wants them listed at their maximum storage capacity, and not real world capacity. They do it to their other phones as well, whether it be a Samsung, HTC, or Motorola, etc. It is not related to manufacturer preference, but carrier preference.

So if you haven't seen engadet or other sites there seems to be a HTC One X+ POSSIBLY coming to ATT and would be running stock Android 4.1.1 could this have been the reason for the recent price drop? Is it worth holding out on upgrading until this is all cleared up?
I really have to ask, but what else could they do to make this phone better?
Ship it with jelly bean? Cmon that's not going to be worth it, especially if its just a 'slightly' upgraded phone
The one x+ is going to be a tmobile phone, its going to have a quad core tegra with jelly bean, so its not an upgrade from ours. This phone beats out the tegra

The One X+ on AT&T would just be the international version with a slight overclock and an LTE radio, maybe a bigger battery. Not really all that great, and really it would be an awful move that would dilute the brand and create confusion due to the lack of a single flagship.
Now, if there was a One X on T-Mobile, that would be great, they don't have a true HTC flagship for this year.
The same would go for Verizon. They need a true HTC flagship phone, and preferably one that is just a Evo LTE in a different design.
Tmobile is said to be getting the hox+

XD we have a really stable cm10. I don't need a camera. My device has lte and the s4 at least on jelly bean is way faster than the tegra. Also look on your phone. Are you constantly having to delete stuff to make space? Chances are nobody needs extra space in the age of cloud storage. If it was a very little difference then it wouldn't matter but the tegra was rushed together in order for them to say they had the first quad core processor. It's old and it's sloppily built.

Yes I got to agree with you about the tegra 3 being rushed out, like a old car with a new engine duck taped in . Although about 16gb (more like 10gb) being enough data, I would say no. Yes, there is cloud but not everyone has a good/unlimited data plan (I only have 100mb for $50) which kinda counters the advantage of cloud technology.
