it's weird that is has to do that to charge
If shut down after plugging in, it will remain off and still charge.
Every phone and tablet I've ever owned turned on when you plug in the charger. No need to worry.

Mine does the same thing, it is normal. I just have to remember to leave it on, plug it in, and then turn it off when I charge it over night.

Yeah me too. Every phone I've had wouldn't boot up, and the xoom stays off when charging? Also it has an led indicator as well. Not a big deal to be missing that with the tf, but how do you (previous poster) know that it charges after a shut down? I believe you and im sure the battery is indeed charging. Where are your credentials sir? Lol.

Mine does that too. It's kind of annoying.
I always turn off and charge my tablet at night. If I forget and turn my tablet off before I connect the charger, I have to stay there and wait for it to boot up then shut it down again.
NORMAL.
My Nook Color does it, my Archos 101 did it, my Droid X does it.

I think I've had the same issue. To clarify by dead do you mean powered off? Several times I've put my phone on to charge at night and woken up to a phone that is powered off.
Dan
No her phone is not rooted. Its bone stock. She's had it since launch day. I've never herd of a phone shutting off during charging. Unless she's doing something that she don't know.

Maybe try charging it during the day and keep an eye one he notification led. If it starts flashing alternating green/amber then it is overheating. That would be my guess anyways.

Any reason why it would be over heating? Bad charger or battery?
I've never experienced my evo over heating and its even overclocked to 1115ghz.

Is she plugging into a wall outlet to charge?
If so, I would try a different plug. It's possible the location she is plugging into could have a bad outlet (tripped breaker, etc).
Also, can you verify that the charger and cord are working?

Im gonna check out the outlet shes using and what not. I may even trade her my Evo charger and cord for hers and see what happens. But if anything we just may go exchange it for another one. Best buy gives you 30 days.
I also have this issue with my Thunderbolt. I've tried different outlets and different chargers. I have yet to figure out any sort of pattern. It just happens when I get up some mornings. When it finishes starting up its just fine.
I had the same exact problem, I actually made me late for work. But who cares.
It was dead battery and all. Phone wouldnt even come on after plugging it in. Needed minimal charge to even turn on.
I found the cable and charger were the problem. I am now using my charger from my N1 with out any problem. I used the same charger for my N1 and low and behold I had a dead N1 in the morning. scrap the ****ty charger and purchase an after market or go to VZ store and ***** and moan and possibly they'll spot you a new one.
Definitely a charger issue though, at least for me.

Thanks for the info... Like i said im gonna try my Evo charger and see if it works. But i may just have her go exchange it for a whole new phone and everything.
definately seems like a bad charger.
Should be pretty easy to find out though. Just plug it in and bring up the battery widget. keep an eye on it, and see what happens..
I received the device at 4 today, opened it and found, to my dismay, that it wouldn't turn on. I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds and 30 seconds, after ten seconds my device makes a clicking noise, but nothing else happens. I've tried holding the power button and the volume up and down buttons ( they are not sticking), also with no results. When I plug it into my computer, it does not show up. Perhaps I need to download drivers? I've also tried plugging it in and charging it, still nothing. I called Asus support and got a trainee who said they would get back with me, whatever that means.... any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

That happened to me too. I plugged it into AC over night and the next day it worked. Display has sometimes problems coming out of sleep mode. Try it!
...besides: not do discourage you, but now, mine's completely bricked, display doesn't turn on at all
Wow man that sucks hope I fair a little better. I will try that tho. Asus sure is having a troublesome release

Give it a few hours on the provided charger. Then hold the power button 10 seconds. Then wait 2 minutes. Then try to turn it on again. If that does not work, leave it overnight on your computer USB in case there is something wrong with your charger.
Just an idea.
I'll try that tho my charger gets warm but my transformer does not

Mine happens to be charging right now, and the machine does not get very warm at all, but the charger gets fairly warm, so that might be normal, I don't know.
That makes me feel better lol

Just a thought here and its probably not the problem. But did the Plug attachment on the transformer click into the transformer properly? I had big problems with it not clicking home and had to actually file down the little T notch on the transformer until it clicked home!!

That's why I was thinking that he could put it on the computer's USB overnight, it won't charge up all the way, but if there is something wrong with the transformer it might be enough to get started.
My battery was dead out of the box. After a quick charge it turned on at 5% battery life.
so i left it pluged into my computer all night and still nothing. its a bit wierd tho my computer is telling me i have new hardware connected but it will not let me see it. so i dont know what to do i guess im going to have to RMA. anyway thanks for all the help
I think the problem most of you are having, especially when just starting to use a new device, is a combination of a fairly low/flat battery coupled with the default lock screen bug, which causes the display to not function correctly occasionally. So start off by charging it up, then doing the 10+seconds force power off method to make sure its off. Then press and hold the power button for 5-6 seconds to do a normal power on. This way it should boot up properly, avoiding the lock screen bug to start off with, make sure to keep the display alive until you unlock the screen, then change the default lock screen to something else, or simply disable it totally.

Hi everyone, I just bought my Transformer today. When the salesperson plugged in the unit, everything worked fine. Then I brought the tablet home. I've been charging it for 3 hours plus, but I can't still turn it on. Nothing appears on the screen when I hold down the power button. Is there any way to check if the tablet is charging or the cable is faulty? Thanks so much
You may want to try plugging it into a computer and attempting to turn it on. I've had issues before when the screen didn't turn on and this has worked for me so far.

It might be possible, but I'm not sure. You could try to see if you can put the Transformer in APX mode.
It happened to me once, and the problem was low charge.
I could test the cable though with the dock - and the light lit up, so after a few mins of charging I was able to turn it on.
Use the dock if you have one. It worked for me.

I have charged my dock with the tablet and without the tablet and i rebooted like a million times, but my eee pad keeps saying my dock battery is 0%... Even after two nights charging.
Is it a well know problem? Software or hardware related? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
P.s. the dock led light keeps flashing orange with long bursts while charger is connected.
While tablet is in use and im not charging, it keeps flashing orange in short bursts, i dont know if this helps in anyway.

Sounds like the dock has a fault mate Those charging lights are when the battery is at 0% so it is not receiving any charge.

Well if you are getting the orange flashing light when trying to charge whilst undocked then it is a problem with the dock itself.
