is there a way to overclock the asus transformer? because ive been reading about the xoom/gtablet/sgt's overclocking capabilities, but still havent read anything about the transformer being overclocked
We need an overclocking kernal for that, since we don't have full access to everything we cant overclock. (yet!) I expect we should be able to overclock to 1.5 easily.
any update on OC? We already have the source code for TF.
Haven't seen anything about it either. I Would like to know though!

Once a custom kernal is released that allows us to overclock it will be all over the blogs, I would assume. So i would imagine that it isnt too far away based on all the publicity the dev would receive.
The full kernel source has been released and can be modded now. I know some people are working on it already. I dont think it would be too hard to incorporate thexoom's ocing into the transformer. After all the transformer code is what helped the kernel dev for the xoom activate the sd card

So an unlocked bootloader is not required for overclocking? I didn't think I'd miss the OC from the XOOM but when I just played Avatar at 1280x728 HD the XOOM was much smoother than the TF Also, the sound on the TF stopped whereas the XOOM kept going. I assume it had to do with the massive amount of data from the softdecode... So PLEASE make the OC happen
Is there any update on progress for overclocking? This would definitely be something to look forward to since we have stock android already, and because we have the honeycomb source won't be released till December.
So it looks like kernel work could be a big priority till then since there isn't much else till then.
Thunderbolt Rooted!
BUMP!
C'mon guys, there must be someone on this forum that knows how to modify the Tiamat kernels for the XOOM so make it work on the TF I really didn't think that the TF would be receiving sooo little development despite its apparently good sales!
People are only just now starting to receive them. Give people time.. Not everyone is a developer.
i know for a FACT that there are dev's working on this. The number one rule of dev forums is, well, dont talk about fightclub. But the number 2 rule is don't ask for ETA's. These guys do this for free, and if i remember correctly, I'm not even sure the dev working on these has a tf yet.

You might overclock it but I do not believe there is a heatsink on the cpu.

I'm not asking for an ETA and I appreciate people working on it in silence. But it would be nice to at least know that something's going on After all, that kind of development is the best reason to donate beer money just like I did for the great guys at the XOOM forum

Is there one on the xoom? Does the reference Tegra2 design include a heat sink?

No worries I believe it is being done in secret in case nothing comes of it. I wouldnt be surprised to see something in the next couple of weeks though.

It might be that the metal casing of the XOOM helps disperse the produced heat. The TF has plastic backing so it might not work as efficiently

Netarchy is working on the Netformer kernel. Thread is here in the development.
Mine seems to run fine at 1.4GHz! Netformer kernel as the previous poster already mentioned!

I kinda think now. that this device was over developed for an under developed os platform. think about it, this device has preemo hardware right yet googles apps are half a$$ working and some arent working at all. i think mabe google needs to step up their app development skills a lil then mabe all these new devices will play nice. its been said that apples apps are better quality... i hate apple lol im currently running a moto droid 1 over clocked to 1.2 on pete's bugless beast 2.2 froyo rom and let me add my phone works ten times faster then the galaxy tab this gtablet and the ipad?? how??? i havent a friggin clue. it dont make sense. android is awsome bottom line this device has potential will that potential be wasted?? i hope not for. what do u guys think.
This belongs in General unfortunately.
The true answer to why Google will not support this is that Honeycomb is their OS for tablets. The hardware manufacturers could not wait to release this hardware (to try to get an edge on the competition).
Currently, Google will not support and will not allow Android Market to go onto a device that does not fit certain criteria.
One of these is that the device MUST have a cellular radio.
Since most of these tablets do not, Google cannot and will not allow Android Market on it at this time.
Hope this answers your question.

it does thank you. i still think its a conspiracy lol.
Google doesn't support wifi only devices yet. I think with android 2.3 we will see a change with that, and that is when we will get this device to shine. It will take time for the hackers to work everything out. It took weeks/months for pete to get his rom to where it is today, and as great as he is, he had a lot of help from the huge DROID community. The community for this gtab is small but growing, and will get better with time. What isn't working fo you? I am on CM6 and got most everything working for google apps except ones where the hardware is limited like GPS/Phone. I have video conf, email, contacts, calender, gtalk, angry birds, flash, overclocking, n lots more etc...
what are you using to overclock?
i cant get set cpu to work properly

i havent purchased it yet. but i want one so bad ive looked at a few of the cheaper tabs and this one looks like its got the best quality for its buck. the galaxy tab is over priced and seems to be less snappy, well from the videos ive seen of it in action. im not a 100% TECH SAVOY but ive rooted my droid and updated its build prop. in order to root this device u used the update.zip format or do i need adb shell to do it.

I used Z4root and rooted my Gtablet with one click. I didn't need an update.zip or adb shell. So don't let the rooting hold you back because if someone like me (no programing or hacking expericence) can do it you surely can.

Question... (sorry, I can not post in development yet) but on my Galaxy, I have the ability to overclock my CPU.... How come none of the roms for the GTAB dont have this feature yet? Is there a way to download it ??
No offense intended, but it appears the post restriction on development is doing it's job.
As for the question, overclocking needs to be built into the kernel. As of yet, they haven't worked it out. I believe it's addressed in the kernel threads in development. Try a search for overclocking, I know I saw it covered.

Has anyone actually had a need to overclock the G Tablet yet?
The only "overclocking" I needed was to replace the Viewsonic U.I. overlay with TNTLite. Much better performance!

Agreed, I have Zero lag with my G-Tablet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab that I returned was a different story. Even with a custom ROM there was intermittent lag.
I can see why an overclock was needed.
no post here, so i thought i better post this up... First transformer honeycomb rom
- make sure to nandroid before flashing...

Hr4

Hr5
update to latest firmware with update for latest keyboard dock also
18th May
see modaco for full details on the rom.
Quadrant scores mean nothing to me. My HD2 got 2.2k in it, which is more than my eee pad did. If an app/game is optimised/made properly it doesnt matter what score you get.
It seems snappier, thats enough for me

Cool. I'm still waiting to see if the FOTA update messes things up or not. Was meant to have been released today, but it hasnt been so far.
Just had a look at the update zip and it doesn't look like much has changed.
I think a new kernel will make this device fly. That and some Honeycomb fixes, but that won't come until Google open source it all.
I've taken a nandroid of my stock build and then installed Paul's Hr1 beta so I can play about with the rooted transformer but then revert back when Asus get there update out.
I've hardly touched my phone since I got tablet fever.

its easy to get Quadrant of 3600+ on a tegra2 tablet..
we get 3300+ on Folio100, and i made it all possible just adding the, famous loopback solution, from Desire originally.. it went from a small 2200+ to 3000+ depending on your test and background proc's running..
So quadrant is really not indication of speed really... but it does help a little writing to cache through loopback, but its not giving a slick userinterface or bigger feel og speed, if CPU is not oc'd and GPU is still the same..
there are even a tweak on tegra2, that will give you another 30% increase, hacking the framebuffers, on folio we got the 3000+ to 3300+ doing this hack, and its really not doing much on regular use, but quadrant does indicate more performance..
at the end CPU is the real thing, you should get it oc'd and you will be moving somewhere different..

Yeh I can't wait for a new kernel. Was happy to hear Asus released the source code for the kernel but apparently it's incomplete or something, disappointing . Want to get this baby overclocked!
Can't wait for an update on this Rom!
Has anyone with this ROM ran Linpack, im curious what the scores are

You should know that the file size was just way too small. Should be 150mb or more. I think around 190mb. I don't know if the link is down though.
I know I didn't check the file size till after it failed to flash though. Was mostly seeing if others were seeing the same thing when trying to download
Well according to Paul, hr4 should be out soon, including online kitchen.
got mine from walmart
waiting for it to come
Update: OP on Modaco still says Hr3, but file link is updated.
4 May Hr4
Deodexed
Now include Blob v5 for insecure boot and custom recovery
Bluetooth fix
Hey if any of the US version guys update to hr4, can you tell me if you have wifi issues? Just trying to see if this is an isolated incident or not.
Thanks,

mine is dropping the connection randomly. I'll screw around tomorrow at work and school and see if it is just my home router or not.

Nah. Mine seems to be doing that too, but I think it's just low range.
i think my router just needed to be reset, or my router sucks. connected to my phone ap just fine and now connected at work with no issues. So disregard.
I've noticed after owning the xoom for a little over 2 weeks, that xoom development is kind of dead. I know that hc is closed source which makes things difficult, but do you think things will pick up when IceCream Sandwich comes out? What do you think of the kind of material we will hope to see when it is released and (if) dev picks up by the release of the new update? I'm just looking for thoughts on the matter.

So in the two weeks since you got your Xoom did you unlock and root? Did you flash one of the custom recoveries and a custom rom or kernel? Have you loaded a ton of music and movies onto your giant HDD and taken advantage of usb host mode with your usbOTG cable? Is your Xoom overclocked and lightning fast?
If not, you have not taken advantage of those little 'tweaks' someone just mentioned as the sum total of Xoom development.
Forgive me, your question was probably quite well-intentioned, but what do you exactly need at this moment to make you feel that development is not 'kinda dead?'

I would say that it has definitely slowed since pre-August. OP has a point, IMO.
I'm finally satisfied with how capable my Xoom is - at thanks to all the work by the guys in the Development section, and I'm enjoying the fact that I haven't had to do a full wipe in over a month

+1. No, actually +1000000000.
OP, please refer to this post. Well without the hostility, that is, since you had no ill intentions.
However, you must understand that there is an incredible amount of work being done, especially considering the closed source. BRD enabled the microSD slot months before Googorola decided we were worthy of that functionality. The latest Tiamat ROM works on all devices and has an awesome tweaked quick settings menu. Furthermore, the OCed CPU and GPU breathe new life into the Tegra 2!
I dont think that the development is lacking whatsoever. In any case, I am closing this thread because it (unintentionally) marginalizes the efforts of Teams Rogue and Tiamat, which have both done amazing work for us here.
So loving ICS even the Stock form Asus seems to be very smooth and always easy to remove crapware. But I am missing my overclocked CPU. Quad scores are way down(Yeah, Yeah, I know not necessarily a sing of a slow down). Has anybody seen anywhere, or does anybody know where there might be a new ICS Kernel in the works for ICS on our TF101's?
I think this requires the source for the device, and I don't believe that has been released yet.

You are correct. Asus must release the source code before a dev can work on overclocking. I read somewhere that Asus must release the source code within two weeks of the update and who knows how long it will take a dev to get everything working properly. Hopefully it will come soon though. I miss my overclocked cpu too.

Thanks to both of you. I do recall hearing about how long a company had to release source code, I thought it was 30 days. Regardless, there are some great dev's that hang around the TF101 XDA forum so when they get it, I'm betting it won't be long.
I hope to one soon.
Yeah, I really want to see one soon. Right now I'm with Android Rev. 3.0 and it's kinda of the same thing as Stock ICS but it would be awesome if it had some OC Kernel. Guess we'll have to wait.
ASUS is known for bad timing on releasing kernel sources. Should get a thread up to tweet @ASUS / facebook page and get them to release the kernel sources ASAP!
Google should have made the license require 72hour release of source, or face the wrath of all the internets
