I have this in my review post but wanted to call it out separately to see what others are experiencing. My G2’s best speedtest.net score is 10289 down and 1582 up. The average is in the mid-8’s down and about 1.2mb up. The best score on the G2X is 7013 down and 1263 up. Average is in mid-6’s down and 1mb up. I took the tests at the same time and after the G2X was loaded with the identical apps and configuration that was on my G2. I know both sets of numbers are good compared to some areas of the country, but if the percentage of degradation is the same everywhere the slower the connection the worse the G2X will perform compared to other T-Mobile 4G phones. I'm guessing it's either LG's implementation of the radio hardware and/or software. I'm hoping it's the latter which can be fixed via an update.
I got 8 at tmobile where the myt4g only got 6... Id say its good..
different days have different uses and network clog, one days worth of testing wont prove enough.

They were done side by side. So any network congestion would have effected both equally. They're also configured identically, unlike units tested in a store which are stock.
Wow you guys are lucky, I was getting 3 down on the G2 and am getting about 4.5-5 down on the G2x
7 down seems fine enough to me on a mobile phone.
Anyways point being i'm seeing higher speeds locally on my 2x compared to my G2, so who knows.
I get anywhere from 4-7 MB/s down and a solid 2.5-3 Up on my MT4G in vegas..
I'd check my G2x speeds but I boxed it up and it's going back because backlight bleed issue is worse than most I've seen here. Hopefully the next will be a little better.. I can live with a little, not a lot.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't really care if my phone is pulling 2mbps or 10mbps. When I'm surfing the web, everything loaded quickly. When I installed Dungeon Defenders, the update was done downloading in around 5 minutes. Considering it was over 100mb, that's more than acceptable to me.
Does tmo charge extra for 4g like sprint or veriz?
That would upset me if i paid for it. If not then........

No they don't...
My Lg G2X is getting on average 7mb DL and 1.5mb UL. My MyTouch 4G is getting 6mb DL and 1.3mb UL. Same apps, time and location. The LG G2X is faster.

But Its also capped at 5GB and then goes to dial up speed after the 5GB, where as on Sprint %100 unlimited.
Oh c'mon.......
I'm starting to agree with the "I turn my phone on vibrate and won't cut my chicken" guys.
This thread is just ridiculous. Seriously are you TRYING to find things to complain about. These silly data rate comparison threads come up every time a new official rom is released for any phone as well. One guy says it's far worse than before, the next guys says it's the best ever!!! The point is, unless you want to continue your little test in 100 different locations at 100 different times of the day, you're not doing a reasonably analytical test. This is why no two people will ever agree on the results of one persons "scientific" test.
I'm sure the results are "real" to you, but they don't really matter to anyone else.

First, here a quote from the TechCrunch review:
A quick note on the network speed. The G2x is, like the G2, kitted out for T-Mobile’s “4g” HSPA+ network. The G2 got around 9Mb/s down in my neighborhood, with around 3Mb/s up. The G2x reliably goes at half that rate – between 3 and 5 megabits down and around 1.5 up. Not exactly the lightning-fast advertised speeds, but they were fairly consistent and for all the usual uses it was quite fast – loading pages and games in the browser or downloading apps, that is to say.
So, I'm not crazy. And to expect T-Mobile's self-proclaimed flagship to outperform an older slower phone (the G2) isn't an invalid expectation. Having a super fast processor and a slower connection nets you about the same performance as a slower processor and faster connection when streaming video. My G2 actually plays Hulu faster than my G2X over 4G. On top of that, the G2X is silly fast over Wi-Fi so it's not the phone, it's the implementation of the radio. I like the phone but I'd really like to see it reach its full potential. If you (or anyone else) are fine with it the way it is then you should really have no interest in this thread anyway.
It's Tmobile... not the phone.

I have the G2x for the 14 day trial period to test it out and see if the network suits my needs (possibly switching from Verizon). I never really speed tests this often, but I feel it is necessary so I can get an idea of the speeds based on my frequent locations. Verizon is too slow in some key areas for me.
I was surprised to see people talk about 7mb down on T-Mobile, because on the G2x for the few days I've had it, I have yet to see more than 1.5mb down. This is in all different areas and with a full 4G signal. One time a full signal on 4G was much slower than 1 bar of 4G - that never made sense to me? The phone stays on 4G pretty much all the time and even with a full 4G signal, I average about 500kbs down.
I'm hoping it's the phone/software... because if the network performs better than what it does now, I would be much more impressed with the network and would be more inclined to switch. It seems to work okay with basic browsing, but at times it does show that it's slow (like when downloading apps from Market).
Well coming from evolution on sprint I am 100% happy. No BS I was getting .12mbps on sprint 3g and on the rare occasion I got 4g I would avg around 6. But 4g was really limited in the dfw area and battery life was garbage. I'm running cm7 with stock kernal.
With the g2x for the first few days I'm getting 5-7mbps with peaks of 11. And the battery life is immensely better. I haven't transferred my acct from sprint because I wanted to test and so far I'm blown away.

I have the Atrix 4G and am having too many issues with it. So I was thinking of transferring over to the Inspire.
Few questions:
-Hows the battery?
-Are the data speeds any better than the Atrix?
-Does the UI and the OS run smoothly?
UI is solid and runs well. Battery is good if you treat it nicely as far as wifi, data and brightness. Can't tell you anything about data speeds vs. Atrix. What kind of issues are you having with the Atrix?

Just picked mine up today. LOVE it so far. Noticed that it seems to charge much faster than my friend's Incredible and doesn't seem to drain as quickly. This phone is infinitely better than the Captivate I returned. The only thing I miss at all is Swype. Gonna install that later today.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
there are people installing swype and they are saying it works well. I personally have never got to the point where I liked it. It just made me have to think too much when trying to compose anything but to each thier own...
I've had the Inspire for almost a week now.
Hows the battery?
- The battery isn't as bad as I thought. You still have to babysit it, though. Turning the desplay down and staying on top of Bluetooth and Wifi usage will help. I can get through the day with only 1 charge. 1 Push email, 2 other emails @ 30 min. syncs, half dozen calls, moderate texting, and moderate web browsing.
Are the data speeds any better than the Atrix?
- Don't have the Atrix to test. There are reviews on the web that have tried and tested both. It'd be best if you try to find those to make a conclusion. Keep in mind though, data speeds are only as could as the carrier. In this case, we're dealing with the Death Star. Read into that what you may.
Does the UI and the OS run smoothly?
- The US and OS run as smooth as warm butter over toast. Many reviews online also report the same. I see no lags. The 2nd generation Snapdragon processor definitely helps. You won't be disappointed in OS speed.
As for switching between the Atrix, you may need to look into battery life depending on how you use your phone. As far as data speeds, do a little research as I don't know the answer. You won't be disappointed with the Inspire though. I LOVE the phone!
I exchanged my inspire and got the atrix; big mistake. I had to go back to radio shack to get my inspire back. The atrix is not for me. I like HTC and sense.

The Inspire "only" has a 1230 mAh battery, but it's also a single-core, extremely efficient CPU. Talk time is rated about the same for both phones, but the standby on the Atrix is much, much lower (372 vs 250 hours, according to gsmarena). What does that mean? I suspect it means the Inspire is much kinder to it's battery.
Having said that, I rebooted my (mostly) stock phone today, and noticed the battery life was much, much worse. Loading Advanced Task Killer** I saw there were about 30 running apps, with about 111mb free. Killed the non-essentials, and things seem better now.
** I don't advocate task killers, and I never use them in automatic mode-- they are useful occasionally, though.

Ok, I was asking because its the same with me. I really prefer a keyboard but I dont really think I want the LG Quantum (I have an upgrade coming up and I think im gonna go with the Inspire) so the inspire is the phone I'm considering, but I was never big on touch screen keyboards because of response and ease of use. Plus, all of my recent phones have been windows phones, but I wanna try an Android powered phone. As long as I can sync my contacts from Outlook and create word docs im fine.

I really enjoy the Inspire. My battery life was ok until I loaded CM7 on it. Once I did that, my battery life improved astronomically. I'm torn between my iPhone 4 and Inspire. I wish there was a way to cross them because there are aspects I truly love about both.
Task killers are gay, they don't anything helpful. Not with Android 2.1 and up... they're useless. Android operating system.knows what processes to keep and kill when needed... freeing up RAM on an Android OS is not necessarily a "good" thing. Just saying.

I have an Inspire that is rooted, and after 5 different Roms for1 day each, I have settled into the revolution ROM and it really works great.I have my unlimited plan4G (most of the time I think)and I have my tendering. My question is when running the "sweetest.com" application I get 331 down and 783 up inthe evening and 2592 down and 1447 up in the morning until about noon,is this network congestion? Is there a different radio mod or flash or something that software locks the radio in HSUDA mode or whatever is making it that fast?? If anyone knows of a setting or .apk that addresses this or a setting possibly I would appreciate it,or an explanation if its not a tweakable thing might save hours of obsessing over trying to fix it.Thanks, Vegas

Funny, but I notice my speeds do the same. But most of the time it's relatively good.
I definitely think this is network congestion. My best speeds are late at night (usually about 2.5 down/1.5 up). Most of the time my upload stays about the same (between 900k and 1.5mb), but my download goes anywhere from 400k to 2.5mb..or lower
So 2.5 down is the fastest I can expect and the radio with the Revolution ROM is the Best one I could be using? I have heard 4G was capable of 6mbps,No..Anyone?? Is it gonna get better in phases, anyone know the truth?Vegas
OK now hear me out, I posted a comment like this in a subforum but I would like to discuss this with other members. When 4G is brought out to all the markets it could theoretically save battery life, now here's my thinking in it...
On 3G now...
Cpu maxed out/ downloading a file (195mb) that's gonna take 60 minutes. For the next 60 minutes my phone is going to be constantly using data with the processor fully throttled. Heavy battery usage.
On 4G...
Cpu maxed out/ downloading a file (195mb) that's gonna take 4 minutes. For the next 4 minutes my phone is going to be constantly using data with the processor fully throttled.
data usage is what kills our phone the most, I believe the lesser time we spend having to download and upload the lesser the strain will be on the battery.
I know alot people are saying that the 4G is a battery killer, but how could it be? Unless there are still bugs in the network. What are your guys thoughts on this?
I think it will be awhile before HTC perfects their 4G radios for mobile use. It won't be the Thunderbolt but it always takes a cycle or two to fully work out a new service. It will only get better. For now, carry a charger.

I'm not complaining about battery life just talking about the future and why 4G could be a vital part for android and there battery troubles.
4G bugs aren't going to be fixed over night but when it does happen weather your on the Tbolt or next generation LTE device then battery life in general should be more acceptable.
What the Thunderbolt is going through is the reason Apple hasnt put a 4G chip in the iPhone. The technology is too new so nobody has a good grip on it yet. 4G will probably become a standard only when Apple adopts it which may be in 2012.

I forgot when Apple was the one to determine who determines what is good and what isn't
4g will definitely help on battery life. I get it constantly where I live, and I have just LTE mode on when I am home. I notice on average I get an extra 2-3 hours out of the phone when on LTE only mode. So with better radio's, more towers, and what the OP said about being able to download faster, people who use the phone more, will probably notice better battery life. Where the people who don't use it so much, might not notice much of a difference.

Rofl. +1. Apples battery life has nothing to do with the network. The reasons why they have great batter life is smaller screen, no widgets, no third party syncs, and there processor is underclocked. Have you heard apple say that iphone 4 is a 1ghz processor, I know it's the same chip as the ipad but it's not clocked the same.

Lol I gotcha ya, I won't quote ya, but it's good to see that someone with 4G is noticing improvements that I speculated on.
To move back on topic one should also note that 3g is 800mhz/1700mhz while 4g is only 700mhz. One would assume that once the lte bugs are worked out that we would get better battery life based solely on the fact that it is a lower frequency.
These are all very good points. I just think manufacturer's should relax with the dual core processor's and invest in battery technology. I mean a 1GHz single core snapdragon can run almost anything. Plus theirs overclocking. So I think we're all set on processor speed for a while.

This is the only reason why it would bring better battery life in the long run. 700mhz spectrum is supposed to be less battery intensive vs the current spectrum. But it'll take lots of tweaking of the silicon radio chips like they did with 2g/3g to perfect it. Might not be till early 2012 till we start seeing it not as battery intensive in NEW devices. But radio updates will help too. That is my understanding of it.
Not sure about it saving battery life, but battery will get better than its current state. Along with updates and more towers added, the better the reception and better the battery life. It's weird how WIFI drains battery on 3G, but helps it on 4G.

When connected to wifi on 3g, it helps to extend battery. It is only when it is constantly searching and unable to connect that kills battery. I would think it would be the same on 4g but that is just a guess.

Woops. thanks for the correction!
I can't see how it would be a no here. I mean look at 2g and 3g. I can't imagine the need for a 5g any time soon as I can hardly max out my 4g when tethering and trying. It's faster than cable internet here and my cable is fast >_>
I'm not sure if this has been addressed, but I noticed that quadrant scores are different depending on if you are connected to wifi or 3g/4g data. On wifi, I get a score of around 2400-2500. On 4g, I get 2700-2800. This is just more evidence piling up on the already known facts about how unreliable quadrant is as a benchmark program. This proved to be the same on my mt4g.
I've noticed that review sites that run Quadrant(no idea why they still do as there is no support for dual core configurations) tend to run some phones on wifi, and some on their data connection. The scores are always noticeably higher when connected to data compared to wifi.
On other benchmark softwares like smartbench 2011, antutu, etc. the scores are not noticeably effected by the type of data connection the phone is using. This is how it should be, since these are system benchmarks.
Quadrant is so out of date. I only use Smartbench.
WOW no kidding! I just turned off wi-fi, gps, and auto sync and got over 2700! Most times I would get somewhere around a 2400. Never thought that stuff would make a difference.

You can't make that assumption through just one test. You have to take the average of multiple tests in order to get an accurate number. Especially since quadrant is so inconsistent.

regardless of what rom i use, sense/de-sense or aosp, the phone gets really hot after awhile. i've had a few instances where it got so hot that it froze the phone and i had to yank the battery and let it cool down.
for the hell of it, tried going back to an older radio and the problem went away.
damn.. did have a tad bit better battery on the new radio as well as a very slight improvement in reception... but considering the consequences of the new radio, it's better just to stick to an older one for now.
Was this only happening when using a 3G/4G connection or all the time? I haven't experienced that but I only switched to the new radio a few days ago and haven't done any long term mobile data usage with it yet. I do seem to pick up 4G at my work quicker and in places in the building where I couldn't before.

As for "undervolting", i use DreamKernal + SetCPU and just overclock to like 1222. I also have a profile set so when the screen is off it is set to max out at 368.
Oh, and for the heck of it tried that VZW thing with pulling the battery to reset location and.it didnt help with the heat either.
On a positive note, at least if your hands are cold(or other body part), then hey!
i think the kernels have alot to do with the heat as well. i doubt the leaked 802 radio will harm anyone's phone. i will admit its a very wonky radio for me. ive just recently combined the cdma 627 radio and the lte 802 radio and all is well. i went 23hrs on a stock battery with lte on all the time. im running cm7+kangbang kernel.

as i said above, i get the "hot" phone issue also even though i'm in a 3G only area and have my phone set to CDMA auto (PRL).

I've been running the latest leak (2.11) rooted, along with the latest radios, for about a week now, and haven't noticed the back getting any hotter than it did before. I'll have to pay more attention and see.
