Is Pandora ever coming? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wanted to know, really miss it or are is Zune pass the paid equivalent?

I emailed Pandora once and their smart ass remark was thanks for the suggestion be sure to check out Pandora on all these devices, I don't know what they're deal is, its like their biased against wp7
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

I'd imagine with the apis opening up a bit more they may be more inclined to give it a try.

zune pass is great but more likely slacker is the pandora replacement.

I use Last.FM. Frankly, I feel it's a better service, as unlike Pandora it lets you skip as many times as you want if ****ty songs keep coming up, there's no hourly limit

i agreee, last.fm owns pandora imo.

Slacker radio

Does anyone think it is possible to get this service, which comes in either free or pay version, working on WM5/6+? They make their own devices(ie an 8gb mp3 with wifi to stream their service) and just released a version for BB, and the iphone/touch combo. So is it possible? Please?
http://www.slacker.com/
bump please...
I haven't seen one yet and I just found out about slacker radio it is really cool. Hope an app is developed.
same here want to see something developed.
I can listen to it using Skyfire on my AT&T Fuze but the interface is pretty painful to use. A dedicated application would be much better. They have one for the Blackberry and the iphone but not WM.

Yeah, which is getting out of hand (at least, for me). I've had my Slingbox for several years and I've switched mobile platforms during that time. No discount and my licenses go to waste. I'm guessing I'm up to at least $100 in just Slingbox player (WinMo, iPhone, etc.).
It wouldn't bother me, since I do use the app, but I'm guessing they're about to milk me another time when they launch the iPad app. There's no sign they will opt for universal app. Second, their follow up support sucks. They're lucky they have such a useful product because their player development cycle (waaay too long), licensing scheme ("buy the hardware and never pay" except for our software) and support isn't winning a single award.
edit: OH, and another thing... their ridiculous ability to charge $30 for software that they aren't willing to state whether it will work with my Slingbox AV. I get to roll the dice and maybe one day it will go dark.
Been waiting for this app also. Besides the $30 cost there will be nothing better for live streaming from your tv. Had it for windows mobile and iphone. Watched directv all over town. This is the best $30 you can spend. Sucked when they shutdown the sling community forums and opened up the new "staff driven" support forums. Sling community was great and helped a lot of people.

I wonder if you would be able to transfer the iphone to ipad? I am sure this won't work to transfer to android though.

At least its just a one time charge, not sure what the other companies (not t-mobile) charge to have the TV type services.

I'm digging into their forum/answers site and it looks like my old, old Windows Mobile license can transfer so long as the Android player is a trial version that accepts licenses. The iPhone app is a different beast than their usual software since Apple has complete control over the distribution of the app. I guess I learned tonight that it's quite possible to transfer from WinMo to Blackberry to Symbian. Your license is only active on one install.
I'm crossing my fingers they took this into consideration.
why on earth are they charging so damn much of this thing? Really, its just a player, thats a third of what I payed for the slingbox itself. But if this same app works on google tv, I might have a purpose for this app.
"When in your mobile phone provider's area of 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi coverage and connected to a Slingbox® SOLO, PRO or PRO-HD, SlingPlayer Mobile makes it simple to watch and control your living room television at any time from any location."
no dice on my slingbox tuner then i guess

more then likely the older models work perfectly well, but they can sell the solo and pro's for a lot more then a tuner or an AV. It probably all about money. Their site says "tuner and AV is not supported. It is highly recommended to get the newer slingboxs" This is what it said for the iphone moblie app.
hmmm....i guess its about time to finally purchase a slingbox.
not showing up in the market for me -running frf50
edit; now it is using THIS
I have 3 slingboxes at work, an original, pro (i think next model after the original) and a new HD one. Only the HD one works. The iphone version supports all three. The prices on these players is wacked. I don't mind paying but jeez. Buy a $30 app just to find out I need to buy like $600 worth of new boxes. Good looking out Google with the 24 hour refund period.

Google it?
I also think that having to buy the app at full price if you already are a slingbox owner is ridiculous!!! At least give current owners a discount or something!! And it's not like the app is cheap, $30 is type expensive just for the app...no??
Can someone please post the Slingbox.APK if it's ok/allowed or send it to me via PM? so we can see if our current licenses would work??? I'd greatly appreciate it as I'm many others would as well!!!
Best purchase since the N1
still cant see it here....

Grooveshark, yeah!

Grooveshark.com, go there. It works well on Android, EVO mine especially, I've been using a headset with my EVO in my pocket and well, I have my own special music that I search anywhere on Grooveshark, and well I love it and since that I'm actually wearing it now and listening on to music from there..
There's a trial you can start with, I don't know how long the trial stands for, but I just paid 9 bucks straightaway anyways.

CorePlayer - Demoed at CES

CorePlayer has supposedly been demoed at CES and Core is at the stage now where they're just "Working on the Market LVL" (whatever that is) and fixing some bugs. It'll certainly not be a free app, and probably quiet expensive, (The existing versions are $29.99!) but if you have a look at their site you can see that it supports pretty much everything imaginable (ala VLC really).
Given the high price, the app is going to need to be a lot better than VPlayer etc, and realistically no matter how good it is, I'm not paying that much for a video player app. It's possible that the Apple & Android versions may be more realistically priced seeing as there _is_ good competition on those platforms (i.e VLC, VPlayer/Rockplayer, Galaxy tab's native player even).
They've been saying "soon" for several months, maybe now they've supposedly demoed the product (although no one seems to have actually seen it), it won't be far off.
It's always good to have options.
I wouldn't worry too much about the pricing:-
1. PC versions are always more expensive than App only.
2. To remain competitive Coreplayer will have to keep their pricing 'realistic'.
My guess is we shall see this title hitting the App store for something around the $9.99 mark.
An issue will be with the H.264 codec, which Google are in the news with at the moment.

I know, I had to double-check that one, but every one of the mobile versions is $29.99.
Methinks their marketing dept is a bit optimistic.
I'm not too excited about this. Every time i did try a CorePlayer, the results sucked!
Might be because it had never been too.... paid, but not being able to play mp3 or h264 in the Mac version? lol.
And file support varies hugely depending on the platform, the big one is just for Windows, everything else is crippled.
But maybe they'll surprise me, who knows!

It is possible to build a (free) version of VLC for Android now and a proper release of it shouldn't be far off, so Core's app is going to have to be both very good and very cheap, or they're not going to get very far.
That said, they're releasing it for iOS as well which already has VLC, so it'll be interesting to see what their gameplan is. VLC isn't exactly the most attractive application, so maybe they'll have a fantastic UI.

Agreed..... Attractive UI or not, Coreplayer as good as it's name has previously made it is up amongst some serious competition.
They are going to have to forget their previous popularity on the territory they once used to hold well and be realistic on pricing if they desire to attain their status.
Having to pay for codec's is one thing but not at the expense of making you financially unpopular.
core player has been around since winmo 5.5 days and it was even on palm os and no i dont mean web os. It was the ONLY player for it back then but then they started charging an arm leg and one other part for it on winmo. why would u pay 30$ for it if you can get rock player at 10 which supports the exact same thing
I think coreplayer will have more codec support when it is released, however..... corecodec have consistently misled its customer for years on when something is going to be released and what development will continue once released.
I paid that silly sum for coreplayer winmo6 as it stated on their website that "hardware encoding for MSM chipsets was coming soon". I had a touch HD (HD1) so the thought of being able to play all my ripped dvd on my little phone was very appealing.
They then promised more support with Version "2" and I am sure people bought version 1 thinking 2 was near to release as this was posted a number of times on their website forums. None of this happened.
We are now back to square one with Android, they have been working on this for more than 18 months and have very little to show for it in that if this pans out like their other efforts it will probably never happen and be 12 months behind everything else when they are supposed to be innovating.
Dont hold your breath, stick with Rockplayer.
I had Coreplayer on my N96 and it's BY FAR the best audio player out there...
I'm sitting on the edge of my chair for purchase...

Wife is debating between WP7 and iPhone4, help me convince WP7

Can anyone think of good arguments I can convey to her to get her to go WP7? She likes the GUI, but hates that it doesn't have a front facing camera (we are AT&T). It's almost a deal breaker.
Does WP7 update via the manufacturer/carrier or via microsoft like the iPhone. (Samsung sucks at getting out Android update, so if it's the first I WILL NOT buy the Samsung, but if it it's the like latter I will).
But other than that, any ideas.... like facebook integration, ease of sync'ing music, controlling xbox music if possible, good applications, etc. Thanks!
Well if she wants to use the front facing camera for Skype (the only good reason to have one right now) then it will be tough to argue with her. But if she's only planning to use FaceTime you can convince her that not everyone has an iPhone 4 and not everyone uses it as much as she may think.
Based on the information that has been released, Windows Phone 7's updates are tested by the carriers but the actual update is sent out by Microsoft through the Zune desktop software. Updates will take longer than the iPhone in most cases because MS has to make sure the update works with every single phone available before sending it out. But it should still be faster and easier than Android's poorly handled OTA updates.
If she's a big Facebook user, it integrates extremely well with the People Hub and the Pictures Hub but the integration is not deep enough to make up for a full featured app. However the way WP7 handles Facebook is still much much better than most Android phones and the iPhone doesn't even have any unless you get the app. Besides that you can argue that WP7 looks better than the iPhone's software, it is just as fast and responsive, and has a lot of big name apps and games that the iPhone also has.
Good luck!
To be honest.... she be happier with an iPhone. I love wp7, but iPhone is better for casual users.

my girlfriend is debating between a focus and iphone 4... I love my focus (coming from a 3gs) but told her to get the iphone... WP7 just isn't ready enough yet for people like her. She's still under contract with t-mobile for another 2 months and then will switch to AT&T either way. I'm hoping by then I'll be able to recommend WP7 instead, but she has no tolerance for bugginess... it will be her first smartphone, so it'll have to be an easy transition, and right now that means iOS. It's a shame too because I think iOS is getting worse with each update... I use to jailbreak my phone mostly for multitasking... now it's jailbroken to keep things (mostly safari) from multitasking apple's way because it's awful (maybe it's better with an iphone 4?) anyway... hopefully this upcoming update will make me change my mind. It doesn't even really have to do anything more for her, just has to do what it currently does better.
I agree. Let her get the iPhone 4, she wouldn't really be happy with WP7 as of right now. It still needs a lot of work to catch up. Restricting her at this point isn't really fair.

Don't let her know there is no music shuffle setting in the Zune player. I discovered this just this evening when I tried to shuffle the songs in a playlist. The songs were playing linearly and I wanted them to shuffle so I tried to find a shuffle setting. There is none. The only place songs will shuffle is all of them in the main "Shuffle all" songs category.
Not only is there no shuffle setting, but there are no settings period...save for the slider for connecting with Zune.
Let her het the iPhone, WP7 isn't mature enough for most people, she will hate it and hate you too.
Plus it's her phone for her to use, why do you care if she uses an iPhone? Do you have share at Microsoft? If you wanted a PS3 and she was trying to make you buy a Wii you wouldn't have it I'm sure.
She is a woman take her iPhone so she can also show it to her friends and tell how much it is nice

For someone to be lying, they would have to be intentional. I was not intentional. The setting is vague to the point of only discovering it by accident. I have other Zunes that the setting is clear to get at. Never had to press the AA in any of them. You need to stop calling people liars when they aren't. You are a false witness.

It could be argued that the iphone is currently better suited to the tech savvy than wm7.
Until Microsoft fix/improve the legion of bugs/omissions then WP7 is an expensive uncool thing.
I don't expect this to be the case forever but that is the sad truth in the meantime.
So for now tell her to the iphone- at least she can't blame you if she doesn't like it
ps before I get flamed- I hate apple but the iphone is a more polished/rounded product- you can change ring tones, retain camera settings, tether, etc, etc. I do expect that WP7 will have advanced features one day but I don't know if or when that will be- nor does anyone else here. The pessimist in me suspects that WP8 will be what we had hoped WP7 would be...
Give her an iPhone... when WP7 matures a bit more, and has a few more applications on the market, with perhaps some newer models, she's ready for one.
Till then... iPhone with a nice pink case
