I accept that I am partly 'cheating', as this is not a fair comparison at all. The first numbers are for pure stock 2.1 without JIT or OC, so it runs at 720MhZ. SetCPU was used and set on Performance, to get the best juice out of it.
On the other hand, Dexter's 1.3 Froyo was set to 1GHz with Milestone Overclock + SetCPU set to Performance. JIT is enabled by default on 2.2. Here are the results, which push the phone above stock speeds for Desire and Galaxy, and on par with Droid X 2.2:
BEFORE (2.1):
@720MHZ
SHORT BENCH: 284
LONG BENCH: 1700
NATIVE BNCH: 1203/488
QUADRANT: 527
AFTER (2.2.1):
SHORT BENCH: 176
LONG BENCH: 518
NATIVE BNCH: 849/344
QUADRANT: 1247
Note: In the Benchmarks lower is better. In Quadrant, higher is better.
The increase in Quadrant is from the mid 500s range up to around 1250. I run several tests and the lowest I ever got was 1114, which was probably a one-off situation since most of my other scores were above 1200. I could have tried a higher OC which would probably result in even faster scores, but sadly my CPU is unstable at anything above 1GHz.
Android 2.1 @ 550mhz
Quandrant: 480
Android 2.2.1 @ 1Ghz

Could XT720 set to same CPU frequency at the compare? so it's more fair.
I think that 2.2 is faster than 2.1, except for the free mem issue
Hello, I'm new in this forum - and i fell in love with the xt720
The test shows, that the xt720 gets ~1200 in quadrant benchmark ,
that means it is as good as the motorola defy right ?
Maybe I'm going to buy a motorola xt720, do you think its the right decision ?
(will not buy defy - because of speaker problem ..)
Wikipedia says, that the Omap3440 has :
OMAP3440 800 MHz - ARMv7 - ARM Cortex-A8 -PowerVR SGX530 - is this right ?
Because I want to buy a phone, which is good in gaming - and the defy is good,
but the xt720 has the same Gpu (?) (powerVr..)
Anyone tested games with overclock ?
Thank you - and sorry for my bad english
Android 2.1 vs Dexters' Froyo 2.2.1 without overclocking
(3 benchmarks average)
Stock XT720 Android 2.1 @ 550mhz
Quandrant: 480
XT720 Android 2.2.1 @ 550mhz
Quandrant: 850
Android 2.2 is twice faster than 2.1 ...
I also made these tests on HTC Legend with Froyo 2.2 results about 200% faster again.

Do you happen to know if you had the egl.cfg tweak? Was it just Dexter's without any tweaks.
i agree that 2.2.1 is much faster than 2.1
but i got lags after 30 hours of up time...and i have checked that the ram available dropped from 50 mb to 30 mb. all the 3 roms are tested, xav's and khal's seem to be better but the lags were noticeable.
well the solution is very simple -- reboot and a snappy xt720 will be back. but it seems quite strange that the phone need to be constantly reboot...
anyone else experience this and anyone got a better solution?

I own both the defy(tmo 3.4.2-107 froyo) and xt720(dexter 1.3), to be honest Defy has a better GPU even though model number are the same. I experience very obvious lag playing St. Patrict's day Angry on XT720, but Defy is smooth. And Defy comes with 512 Ram, roughly 120MB is always free.
Battery life on Defy is much better, partly due to larger cell. maybe 45nm processor also helped, this I am not sure.
Strangely the Defy 5MP camera has better image quality compare to 8MP Xt720. 2 images of the same print were taken oat about 5 feet distance, setting are all auto. Characters appears less blur on the one taken by Defy.

This isn't so strange, actually. An 8MP sensor wastes more space behind the lens on circuitry. The circuitry for each pixel subtracts from the area that can be photosensitive. The per-pixel circuitry is pretty much fixed in size. So 8MP means 3M more circuits than 8MP but in the same area. Thus for the same size sensor, a 5MP sensor has less overall area devoted to circuitry and more devoted to detecting photons compared to 8MP.
Thank you for your answers,
but I'm already going to buy the xt720 .
But I love to play games, and I need somebody who overlocked his device an played some of these 3d games (asphalt 5, modern combat..)
I have to know if these games work on this device
The defy is a bit to expensive (it is now on ~ 310 €)
and the speaker problem is a bit too strange for me ,
i know it is solved - but i dont know how to ..
Thank you for all your answers

Complain about "bad" benchmarks on Raphael/Diamond/X1/Blackstone? Check -> Asus P565
Hey !
I´m a happy Sony X1 User and have also owned a Raphael / Diamond / TyTN II / Tytn and more.
In the Raphael/Diamond/Blackstone/X1 Forums many people complain about the "bad" Benchmarks/Performance they get with their phones. Especially graphics-wise.
Sometime ago I heard about the new Asus P565 which is a Diamond-style Device (VGA, no keyboard, 2,8 inch Screen, few buttons, minimalistic design... ) but with a 800 Mhz Marvel CPU !
Since I owned several devices in the past I was interested in how this first "highend CPU" Device would do feel benchmark-like.
I searched the internet but got only one review from a chinese site
Some days ago it got available in Germany so.. I decided to buy and play with it. (I love gadgets )
What should I say... This device is performance-wise a dream come true !
I wish all of the above mentioned devices had this new CPU / graphicsdrivers inside...
You can play Games using Morphgear with Sound (on best settings ! 44.000 khz) and full screen flawlessly (any emulator). On the X1 you can do mostly the same when turning sound completly off and turning frameskipping ON.
Also you can use FPSEce 0.09.6 playing Playsation Games + Sound with a wopping 40-50 FPS (frames per second) ! Ridge Racer and Final Fantasy 7 run perfect now ! With my X1 or a Touch Pro you get 12-18 FPS and the games are mostly unplayable and unenjoyable.
I was blown away... Hopefully the next-gen devices from our favourite company will feature a performance like that too !
Wanna see some SPB Benchmark and -VS Benchmark 2007- results ?

I did also some Benchmarking with the newest SK-Tools.
Here we go :
The 800 Mhz Marvel CPU is very impressive. Only wish the P565 had a bigger screen. But the March 2009 Asus P835 Galaxy 7 will, and hopefully the same cpu!!

Yeah, a 3,5 or 3,8 inch screen would be pretty nice !
But... The Galaxy 7 will feature only the same CPU as the X1 / Raphael and stuff... NOT a Marvell one...
Cant remember where but I read this on some Win Mobile News pages (MsMobiles/WMPoweruser etc.)
One more thing that bugs me with the Galaxy is that it will "feature" a scroll ball instead of a D-Pad. Iiiiih.
-> Not good for playing games.

well at least there's hope for quality drivers (not the crap that HTC accepts from qualcomm.)
Thanks for validating the point I made that the ASUS xscale is very fast without a GPU or FPU. Is the device any more expensive than an equivalent Qualcomm device? It's nice it even has the SiRFIII GPS chip so it lasts probably at least 3x better on battery than the Qualcomm GPSone.

Since it's a different CPU (Xscale same as Omnia) architecture, it is very difficult to hope for better drivers since some of it is probably optimized WMMX instructions available only to XScale.
Don't buy HTC/Qualcomm is the only sure way to avoid this headache.
anyone noticed that P565 despite all this top performance,
is absolute crap regarding the music score?
ONLY 370 for sound? for a high end device like this too bad...

The Kaiser doesn't score that much better on the music score either and there's hasn't been much complaint about the Kaiser's music abilities (except for the crappy MIDI playback in my experience).

Hi foto
I'm really interested in getting an ASUS 565 mainly for emulators, can you play landscape using dpad and mapping buttons to screen?
So im guessing FPSECE all games are payable? ? would be a dream come true!
Many thanks for your info!
hi there,i owned couple of wm devices in the past and let me put it this way:
asus has much better mainboards (they r genius ) so if you put same cpu in htc and asus pda ,the asus pda will win for sure ,no doubt.
marvell is another leage in cpu making ( i gave them the win since xda 2 mini,s100).
as we need more 2d performance (for the phone to feel fast and videoto run smooth ,fotos to load fast ....) ,qualcomm 528 cpu with graphic ship is fast as marvell cpu at 330.
3d performance is still mostly relying on cpu these days (dont know why qualcomm are so bad in this area even with there integrated 3d hardware ship.
i just go an xperia today, upgrading from a beast of power called asus p525.
my pda history
magician, wizard, universal, prophet, artemis, elf, xda flame (sold after 1 month ,too many issues) ,asus p525(my favorite) now se xperia x1

It wouldn't affect it. Snapdragon has faster CPU and supports 720p video where 7227 supports only WVGA and has 600mhz ARM11 CPU.
They're in completely different leagues.
MSM7227 also have VFP (floating point unit) like 8250.
not sure how fast MSM7227 will be, but 8250 is really fast

i totally agree with you,but as i know msm7227 is a lowend CPU that have the goodies of highend CPU ,and trust me 600 mhz cpu +AMD 430 + good Drivers should deliver enough power to rum xp or even ubuntu with good speed.

Do you even know what you're talking about?
MSM7227 is nothing more than upgraded MSM7201 which is by many users considered piece of sh*t.
Compared to qsd8250 it is nothing but low end.
Besides 600mhz ARM11 CPU can't compete with any higher end device, so making it a minimum for WP7S would be pointless, especially considering the timeframe.
So stop whining. I don't see people whining about ipad having 1Ghz CPU...
Other way around. If MS would make lower minimum requirements people would complain that they are not competitive where others use better parts.
P.S. You can't run XP on it! XP is x86 based not ARM based so there is no way you could run it.
For ubuntu I would recommend something faster than 600mhz...
Maybe it's not fast enough for ubuntu or Win7 or whatever, but thanks for that info. HTC just put out the Legend, an android device, which is supposed to supersede the HTC Hero. From what we've seen there was nothing substantial to differentiate the 2 (apart from a dozen of Mhz clockspeed and some ram), but this is quite substancial news to us
it feels like wm7 will be hacked ,ported to the current devices in a way or another(time will tell).
let me say one more thing ,what i meant that msm7227 doesn't seem so bad as it has been describe on couple of web pages .
i didnt try to compare snapdragon power to msm7227 ,all i want do say that they have the same graphic processor (and thats a good push).

To port WP7 you need drivers. We don't have them. To make drivers you need band of developers spending their free time trying to write them all by themselves or at best trying to port drivers from newer devices.
Only device which could probably/maybe run WP7 is HD2. End of story.
Don't fool yourself thinking that WP7 will be ported for old QVGA devices or even newer devices like Diamond, X1 or even HD(Blackstone) and not just because of MS but because ODM don't want to invest in old devices when they can invest in newer(which they can then sell and get some profit from it). End of story.
About msm7227. It's not bad. It is what msm7201 should be from the beginning but unfortunately now it is nothing more than mid class.
Of course this chipset has a less performant cpu than the snapdragon, but since they have the same gpu they will offer equal 3d performance. My demo here shows that the HD2 is very powerfull when it comes to extensive per-pixel calculations. The demo uses the gpu as much as possible, the speed of the cpu doesn't matter. So I think that my demo might run even faster on the HD mini than on the HD2, since it has less that half that much pixels compared to the HD2. We'll see

Epic fail
All i have to say is -Mytouch 3g slide-. this entire thread is one "Epic fail" of, well , i guess some sort of debate of wits. The MTS has the ARM 600 and it is BEAST!!!! Say what you will about this comment but the fact remains that this phone has proven you all wrong. Cheap, low-end, crap..... none of it true when HTC and Android 2.1 combined to use this hardware and created this device...

What's your dream phone?
Mine would be an Android phone (Of course) Running Gingerbread at least, cut from a single block of aluminium, with the psychical buttons and optical trackpad of the HD2 (with the standard android buttons. (Home, Menu, [Trackpad], Conjoined Back and Search buttons)), the 4.3" SAMOLED+ Screen of the SGS2 covered in Gorilla Glass, the 1.2ghz Dual-core snapdragon with Andreno 220, HTC Sense (I love it, but that's just me.) A nice loud speaker, 8MP camera of the Thunderbolt, i don't care for front facing cameras. HTC Made by all means.
Hmm.... im thinking the Galaxy.S 2 with a 4.5 inch screen; the same specs and....
A notification light.with multiple colors.
Captivate 2.2.1 OCed
Atrix Root
Nexus 1 2.3.3
The Dell Venue Pro pretty much hit the nail on the head for me. Great OS, great device, all around amazing phone and I don't think there's much aside from the iphone 4 that even comes close in build quality.
A combination of the Nexus One and the Desire, but with an Intel Core i7 990x Extreme Six Core processor, a nuclear battery (because otherwise it won't last more than 2 minutes ), 8 gigs of RAM and 128GB integrated storage (with a sdcard slot, of course).

Do they both support mkv format?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I guess we should hear some more details today via the HTC announcement.
Certainly looking more forward to the SAMSUNG event tomorrow.

I think that HTC will be like the other "S's" (Desire S, Incredible S, etc) models of that manufacturer, meaning they will be lamy poor in codec support other than MP4

Well,I'm watching the event streaming live now
Here's the Video
Awesome video...
Seriously it could give SGS II a run for its money. Perhaps thats why they pulled back and uped the speeds to 1.2Ghz.

Dissapointed with HTC again... they could really do better... I don't like the design at all, curvy.. yuck
And also I don't think that the new Qualcomm processor will be better than Tegra or Exynos.
Still 1GB Storage... wtf? It isn't 2007 anymore.
And it has a weak battery again... oh I should shut up now.
I've already preordered the SGS2 and won't cancel my preorder.. the only thing that I will miss is the Sense experience and the HTC logo.
EDIT:
Here is the comparison in GSMArena:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3875&idPhone2=3621
It would've been the Sensation for me, but being stuck with my Nokia E65, I'm not willing to wait any longer! SGS2 it is!
WTF ???! Dissappointed
Now I think that the choice is pretty simple
Yes, after seeing its Qualcomm, certainly sticking with the SGS II.
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3875&idPhone2=3621
there's no competition, the SGS 2 is Thinner, lighter, and blasts the HTC; sensationless.

I think you are underestimating Snapdragon by a very long way.
The 45nm Snapdragon with the Adreno 205 GPU{found in myTouch 4G which in no way is slow} changed things as it roughly doubled GPU performance. The Adreno 220 brings about another doubling in GPU performance.:
So counting it out will be a bad deal, the only real working/in production lineup is Optimus 2X {Nvidia Tegra 2}.Wait for SGS 2 with Exynos & this one with Latest dual core Snapdragon & then we can see.
I would not underestimate the performance of qualcomm. look up anandtech for the benchmark especially of the new adreno 220. qualcomm has done a darn good job in graphics part considering how shIIty there previous gen adrenos. were. i know the review is of a reference hardware and is clocked at 1.5 ghz.

One of my friend has recently got LG Optimus 2X,i played with it for almost 2 days. Was even then hearing a lot of crap about Tegra 2 performance & that time also people were comparing it with Exynos & believe me except for Web Browsing,Optimus 2X rarely slows down, there were just no lags, almost every game plays very well in it.Camera performance, hdmi mirroring all were pretty fast.
Likewise i expect HTC Sensation to also perform similarly.Apart from difference in screen technologies there is apparently not much to choose from both of these great devices.
Battery performance & lower Ram{but still>700MB is hell lot} might be a concern for some one.
OK, owners of Flex 2 please run some benches, at least Antutu , but it better to run some more from that topic
What does bench marks do or show?

That's the best that you got? And reason I'm asking is because well i really don't know much about benchmark except that the device with the higher e-penis numbers is maybe the best device and since most folks say benchmarks barely means anything as long as real world usage and performance is great. But hey if you need some e-penis numbers i can show you mines when i get the device lol.
Benchmarks show how much SoC power you got. We're to the point where hardware isn't a problem for UI smoothness, but the software. Android still has scrolling frame drops, and the only way I fixed it was making the min CPU freq to at least 1.19ghz. You can optimize a phone as much as you want to the point where it's the smoothest in UI, but I know for a fact you wouldn't like it when things like emulators/rendering a video to a smaller resolution/heavy gaming/extracting and compressing performance is slower than other phones. The day and age where benchmarks (Quadrant/Linpack) don't matter are over, they do now. Now you should take Antutu with a grain of salt, but Geekbench/GFXBench will show what your device is truly capable of. It's like you're given two PCs with identical hardware (SSD/High end GPU etc) but the CPU in one is an Intel Pentium G3258 and the other is a 4690K. They'll both perform just fine in the OS, only way to find out is with reliable benchmarks.
i heard lg g flex 2 have snapdragon 810.. and i have a question
snapdragon 810 (gflex2,minotepro,) vs tegra K1 64bit(nexus 9), which more better(antutu benchmark score)?
snapdragon 810 usually have 50k+ antutu score
i have z1 compact with 41k antutu benchmark, the normal benchmark is 30k-35k
lg g flex 2 antutu score can be different, but usually is 50K+
sorry newbie :crying:

I personally prefer the snapdragon 810 chip, but the tegra K1 is also a very nice chip, the core frequency just not as nice as the 810..
Just my personal opinion

Some ppl agree with your position. And it's fine. You may not care for benchmarks at all. But some other ppl do care, like this example. So, benchmarks can show problems in software implementation of kernel CPU government. Or problems with hardware implementation of proper CPU cooling, like example. And some ppl may want to not pay for such software or hardware crippled devices, it's there choice, they vote by there money and demand vendors to pay proper attention to engineering
High on Android has his up on YouTube.
The Korean model scored 41276 on 64bit then 37754 on 32bit out of the box.
This was my first. Second, third, and fourth were slightly lower, but nothing has been under 50k so far. Every test was run side by side against my Nexus 6 and the Flex 2 beat it every time. This baby really flies. Here's to hoping it gets some strong Dev support!

That is what i thought as well. Supposed to be 20nm instead of 28nm like the 805.
Here is my first Antutu bench. 16GB Silver european model (H955)...
Not very bad, at the same level of HTC One M9...

Its weird as it should be 20nm but never shows ut no matter what i do haha.
Tried a couple of other apps and they are the same. One app tells me that its revision 2 of the cpu so maybe some changes are being made for heat issues etc? But i cant find anything and im getting good benchmark scores each and everytime with no lagging or throttling yet.
And speeds are good on benchmarks and are running in 64bit mode on antutu so im happy hehe.
