G Tab wont boot. - G Tablet General

I have been running my Gtab for about 2 months with no problems. Running the lastest Vegan update and all was happy in the world. Until today I get to the gym and turn it on and the screen just turns white. Nothing, wouldnt even boot to recovery. Is this thing toast or what?

You need to nvflash to fix and return it to stock my friends. The thread you are looking fore is a sticky in the development section. These things are 99.9% un-brickable.
I had a similar issue recently when I popped my gtab in my pack and went to school. Opened my bag in class and in the middle of bootlooping. Power cycled it to a white screen. Nvflash saved the day. Looks a little daunting at first but its doable. The other posts in the thread really helped too so read up and it will build your confidence.
Oh, I'm pretty sure mine sh!t the bed because the way it was sitting in my bag was randomly pressing the power button down while I was walking to class and turning it on and off repeatedly. Something to thing about for the future.
Good luck.

Skyrocket has died (I think) - any help or advice is welcome

I have had my Galaxy SII Skyrocket since January 4th of 2012. About two weeks after I bought it I got drunk at a party and dropped in into the road. Didn't crack the screen or anything. Just had some scratches on the outside bezel.
Now here come the questions, I had my skyrocket rooted and installed many different roms over the previous months. I would say since June I have been updating and installing different Roms on my device. Well, About 4 days ago while I had CvD Nibbles installed on my phone with the CPU overlocked to 1.723 I think? with incredicontrol, My phone just restarts. I didn't think anything about it at first.
So, I take the battery out and restart like normal, everything seems to be fine, but I reduce the CPU speed just to be sure. receive a couple text messages then BAM! phone restarts again. Except this time when I tried to take the battery out and place it back in, the phone automatically booted up (without pressing the power button at all). I see the Samsung logo and then it just restarts to a black screen and is stuck in a vibrating loop about every 2-3 seconds.
Also, I have noticed that when I try to connect a USB cable and put the phone in download mode that the download mode screen will pop up, but as soon as I click volume up to continue, a blue screen flashed quickly and the phone restarts.
Additionally, will the scratches on the bezel affect the warranty if I send it in to Samsung?
What could this problem be? I even tried a brand new battery at best buy, didn't help. I was thinking it is a hardware issue inside the phone?
any advice will help, thanks

Stuck power button.

Probably a stuck power button. It's a common problem on this phone. I'd Odin back to stock when you can and take it back to where you bought it. You only have a few days before your warranty is up.

I took the phone apart and cleaned the dust out.
Didn't help
I also tried to boot the phone up without the outer shell on it. Also did the same thing, I almost ruled out stuck power button. Because if I take the outer shell off then the power button isn't even touching the white trigger underneath the case. You know what I am saying?

No, it's a stuck power button.

Okay, im gunna take my phone apart again and post a picture. I cleaned it pretty thoroughly, whats the best way to unsticking it?
Sometimes you can just keep pushing the power button over and over until it fixes itself
theres a few links about this in the 1stop sticky in the "info " section in the sticky
its an internal problem we/i call "the sticky power button".
theres a link on taking it apart to clean the button internally, sometimes works, sometimes not, if not get the warranty repair

I had the same symptoms. Took it apart. Played with the button several minutes to no avail. Try blowing preferably some canned air right into where the white button is. Button doesn't appear to be stuck. There is more than likely some dust or lint behind the white button.
!0 minutes start to finish to fix my "stuck power button"
Good luck.
a good way to check if it is still stuck would be to blow air into the white button, then place the battery back in the device, If it powers on immediately without pressing any buttons then its still stuck right?

I would say yes.
Alright, I am about to go on lunch break at work and I will grab my phone and pick up some air duster. Any other suggestions for cleaning out the button? like chemicals to use to remove the dust?

I wouldn't recommend using any chemicals. some duster should be fine.
I'm sure you took a look at the stickies vincom mentioned. There are a lot of more "denial and error" stories over there.

Yeah it's hilarious. So many people saying...
Person in denial:
"I know it's not the power button, it can't be. I already looked at it 3 times and its not stuck"
Me
It's internally stuck, dude.
Person in denial:
"I already told you it's not stuck"

It's definitely stuck, clean it.

Dropped my phone, won't boot?

Been a watcher on the forums for awhile, now I actually had to sign up and get some help, LOL.
Anyway, dropped my s2 skyrocket, noticed that it kept trying to reboot every now and then when I used it the same day. The next day, I plugged it in in the evening, and shut off, rebooted, but the screen would go black and the phone would vibrate with 2 seconds in between vibrations. It gets to the "Samsung" word, then the screen goes black in the style of an old tube TV (with the thin white line at the end). Then the vibrations start. So far a useless phone. Took it apart and checked connections carefully (I'm used to working with processor boards quite a bit).
What do you guys suggest? Damaged memory? Should I attempt to reflash? Stuck power button (seemed ok, though)? Bad screen?
Well, probably some kind of physical damage, but hard to say. Anyway, you posted in the forum for SGH-I777 but you have the SGH-I727, so I would suggest that you look in the correct forum.

Oh, thanks for the heads up. Yeah I just figured out that the i727 isn't in "Top Devices" or "Legacy," so you have to go to all forums. Ugg. Already moved. Thanks to whoever notified mod.
Anyway, yeah, any help would be AWESOME. What physical damage would prevent booting past the "Samsung" screen and default to a black screen that intermittently vibrates?
I'll be honest, if ur asking that question probably something u don't have the current skill set to fix. Try to Odin back stock, but if it started post-drop you may be SOL and in need of a new phone.
Got it into download mode after multiple failed attempts. Each time I would get it into download mode, the screen would shut off after about 5 seconds of being on. I tried several combinations of plugging it in first, then installing the battery, or holding down the button while I plugged it in with no battery, etc. I had just given up after getting it into download mode briefly for the 20th time, when I gave it one more go while rocking the on and off button. Technically that is recovery mode, but I let off right before plugging the phone in and it hit download mode and stuck.
So what I am thinking is the power button got jammed internally. I have heard of it happening on other forums. Even though it looks good and clicks upon external examination, the pressure circuit on the inside might be in contact. Anyway, just one theory.
For future though, I did discover that you don't HAVE to have the USB unplugged prior to getting into download mode. On the contrary, a power source must be present in order to register that the keys are pressed PRIOR to initiating USB input. Thus, you can actually remove the battery, plug in the USB (power source), then hold the volume keys while replacing the battery. Goes into download mode that way, too.
Will keep you guys updated. Might need a bit more help if the phone starts acting up again.
At this point, if the Download mode still holds ok, should I consider CyanogenMod, or is it easier to get back a good ROM from stock?
icenight:
Thanks for the reply. I don't understand much about smart phones or how they work, but trust me when I say I have had AMPLE experience with electronics, circuit boards, hardware, etc., particularly in the computer/laptop world. I code quite a bit of websites, and understand almost all things networking and OS. Just never really got into it with the phones.
Getting super excited to see the sheer amount of modding you can do though. Would love to break into a hardware modding world if it ever comes available. That's where it's at with electronics for me.
Well glad u got it sorted, lucky guy you are lol.
As for boards and the like, if it didn't work I would've suggested replacing the motherboard and/or power daughter board. But for a skyrocket may not be worth the money.
Since you're a hardware guy, maybe mess around with the phone and JTAG? Finding a way to unbrick without it would be very helpful
Since the problems started after a physical damage (fall) , I wonder how would Odin or wipe and flash might work !
Definitely a hardware damage...
Yeah, it kinda puzzled me, too. I believe the power button might have been internally stuck, but that's just one idea. Could have been a loose connection, too.
Can you lose some solid state memory with firmware on it, but the SS memory still be OK to right another copy on?
More than likely it was your power button

Busted phone for a Dev if you want it

Alright guys, I had a conversation in Ax's "Run ROMs on different Carriers" thread, but I really want to get to the bottom of my issue, whether it be a hardware issue, ROM related, OR user related.
I've been having an issue with my phone the past few days. Started out it would read "invalid sim, need to reboot" or something along that. Anyways this was after flashing a nightly and I figured, OK, it's a nightly i'll live with it. Eventually my phone just started to power off/reboot all by itself; not real consistent but it was happening more than I would like. Today, the S*&% really hit the fan. I flashed a nightly Wednesday night(i'm not going to say which one, because i'm not sure if it was from the ROM itself or if this was a hardware issue). Anyways, Friday at about noon or so, I open a game to play on my lunch break, I get distracted so I lock my phone to attend to something else. I go back to my phone and it is powered off, now totally unresponsive to anything. I pull battery and try to restart, when I place the battery back in the phone it automatically reboots(WITHOUT ANY BUTTON PRESS) I thought to myself ok this is kind of weird. I try rebooting by using power+vol up...absolutely nothing, it's just a brick. Well, I pull the battery again, hold vol up thinking it will go into recovery...nope, it will boot for a sec or two, just enough to get the blue lettering on the top left of the screen then shuts off again. OK, let's put this b*&*h into download mode and see what happens. it goes into DL mode, all the way to the point of where it says " do not turn target off" then shuts down. I did both of these multiple times, with different batteries as well, plugged in and not. It won't stay on for a computer to recognize it. Someone suggested a stuck power button, I don't think so; it feels the same as it always has.
I was fortunate enough to be able to get another S4 with a busted screen so I switched out motherboards. I have a working phone again...which is all I was worried about. I've flashed quite a few ROMs, I follow procedure to the T when flashing... What do you guys think...hardware issue...user issue...ROM issue? I'm very curious to know because I don't want this happening again, obviously. I would even send the phone out to someone to play with(mind you, the screen doesn't work and the silver bezel is crappy because I just used my original one).
I would say stay away from whatever ROM you flashed. This could also be a hardware issue. I had my old note just randomly shut off on me and was unresponsive as well. Finally got it to boot and reset it. But in your case I would stay away from that ROM and maybe find something more stable. So as this is unknown to what happened I would not blame either. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

Im saying nothing for sure, but a stuck power button feels just like normal. I had this issue on two separate samsung phones (they are known for this issue). I thought it was just bs, but i decided to tear it down and check. I used a q-tip and everclear and got plenty in there, wiggled and pressed the button for around five minutes. Re assembled, put the battery in and sure enough, the problem was gone. You cant always feel the button sticking. But hey, if you are offering the remains up, ill take em! I would gladly pay $200 for a replacement screen for it to test on.

Edit: Used some IPA on the power button this morning, soaked it pretty well, pressed the button many many times with varying pressure, with a hard pointy object etc. etc., jiggled side to side, tried every option I could to get it unstuck (if that's what it is) and still doing the exact same thing.

[Q] Mytouch 4G Slide bricked while using

I installed a stable version of cyanogenmod 9 on my phone and the system was working perfectly, but I spent some time without using it because it didn't have any signal(I think its aerial is broken). After some time I decided to try to fix it, so I turned it on. It booted normally, but shortly it turned off by itself. Then I tried to turned it on again successfully, but again it turned off. I thought it was the battery so I plugged the phone, but it wasn't showing any sign of being charged. So I tried to charge the battery out of the phone and I checked its voltage, but when I put it back in the phone, it didn't work. The only thing I see, when I try to turn it on is a dim red light in the trackpad.
Any ideas of what happened? Is this reversible?
Thanks in advance.
I'm no expert, but it unfortunately sounds bricked to me.
Similar thing happened on my 1st MT4GS after like a week of owning it. We were on vacation and I was playing fruit ninja, slashing happily away as the phone was plugged in for bedtime. All of a sudden it turns off. I'm like WTF, it was charging! But it apparently wasn't, and similar symptoms to you. No other lights/charge/indication of anything working. Just the dim red light in the track pad I could get to go on and off. Since it was just over a month old after I got back from vacation, I wound up having to ship to HTC rather than walk out with a new one from t-mobile, but they sent me a replacement I've been using since.
So sorry I don't have better news, but it sounds like what happened to me, and it was dead and had to be replaced.
Hi,
This has happened to me two or three times but thankfully I have a few other devices so I needn't worry much.
When this happens I take out sim, SD and battery for a week or so. Upon reinserting battery all was good each time.
If you have a spare try it, I can't say for sure if we are on the same boat but its worth a shot before throwing it away.

Edit
Here is a link that I and a few other discussed our issues, none the same but all similar.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257451
Also there are plenty of other threads I seen on this as well, search around a bit and hopefully you'll find an answer
Best of luck!
So there's some threads I just shouldn't read ...
After coming across this today my phone has started turning off by itself (doing routine things, like pressing the "Read" button on an SMS). There's gotta be a weird coincidence there (I had an underclock issue where the screen wouldn't come on a couple months ago while earlier that day I was reading the post on how to replace a bad LCD panel - so I get to overreact like that).
I think my issue is more about battery as I have been tracking it the past several hours (three shutdowns in a row at 60% battery, and then one ten minutes ago at 20%) but it continues to work itself out (with some weird stuff like notification panel crashing on me on one of the last reboots).
I have what I presume is a cheap 1900mAh battery (EZOPower) that is starting to show it's wrinkles. I have dropped the max processor speed a notch according to a recommendation in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2753720
...hopefully that was the issue. I nandroid'd my device just in case something goes wrong. If it continues, I'll swap batteries and see.
I'm hesitant to shell out for a couple Ankers because I currently have my eye on the LG Optimus F3Q (although getting one would be three months away, I gotta have priorities).

wth!!! blue screen then fade to black

So i was using my 907a playing injustice God's amongst us and right in the middle of play the screen goes blue and then the tablet shuts off. I hooked it up to my charger, no charging lights..this thing appears to be dead. Hopefully my Att insurance Will cover this...it was rooted but only do i could do the sdcard fix....any suggestions...i have had lot of devices this is a first
Wonder if the tablet or the battery overheated. Let it sit on the charger overnight. Hope that is all it was.
I honestly think it was the game...i got the tablet to boot into recovery and then rebooted it.so then i started to play the game again and bang blue screen. Same process, reboot into recovery and record....i could not get the tab to just turn on. After the last time i got it back on i have watched 3 hours of straight video and no problems.this was strange i have never had a device do this so we will see what happens.i uninstalled the game to be on the safe side
I'm just wondering if perhaps you are using Nova Launcher. I have had a blue screen 2 times now and on this last one yesterday it coincided with an update for Nova (play store was on auto update...) I managed to reboot with home and power button.
Yeah actually i am using nova...i use it on my g3 and nexus 7 too...I'll have to look into that thanks

Just chimming in to say me too. Mine doesn't fade to black though, it just stays blue until I hit the power button then goes black and reboots. A few times it stayed blue until I held the power and volume buttons and rebooted like you did. I came here to try and find the stock rom for the At&t 12.2 and happened to see your comment. Nothing I have tried works. I used rom manager to fix permissions but with certain apps it just does not want to run right.
Hey! I get the exact same thing when playing Boom Beach. Im also using Nova Launcher. The screen goes blue, then fades to black and I have to reboot into recovery to get the tablet to turn back on. I havent played Injustice enough to notice it with that game, and I dont see it happen with Clash of Clans, or any other non intensive game. I chalked it up to overheating, but the Nova Launcher bit seems to be a common issue with us as well. Maybe it's Nova?

Just wanted to tell everyone else I'm having the same issue too. This started last week while I was in class using Samsung App Hword 2014 for a class report I made sure to save what I was doing but didn't save the 2nd half of my report. When I got the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH..Last night I was playing Assassin's Creed Pirates and a few hours ago had this Tab crash on me with the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH... Oh I also forgot to say that sometime it doesn't show key pad when you wake up the tablet for some reason I think Samsung needs to roll out an update fix for this.So anyone can get access to you tablet even if your tablet is setup for security key pin.
I hope this helps.
I did a chat with Samsung and they told me to clean my cache go to recovery mode.
power off the tablet, then hold the vol. up home button and power. That brings you to the recovery mode use the vol.button to clear cache and then reboot. I'm still testing it out. Seeing if this happens again but most likely will be returning it because I got a defective Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 32 gig AT&T..
I recommend register your tablet on Samsung web site and report this I got a clam ID for record on my account. I think Samsung knows about this because they also said if my screen went from blue to black. Mine was stuck on blue and it rebooted.:highfive::laugh:
Same issue I was having. It was really bad after a while. Every few minutes or so. The tablet was unusable. I sent it back to Samsung to be fixed. I haven't had a single crash since I got it back. It seems to be a ATT version issue.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using XDA Free mobile app
I have the same issue. Maybe due to xposes framework. It does seem to get more unstable after root. I may go back to stock and see how it performs. Then only apply root.
Try going to developer options and unchecking force GPU rendering
I continue to have this issue about 5 to 20 times a day using any game or app that is resource hungry. Usually the minute I get the BSoD I hold the power button and home button until it reboots. I'm completely stock, no root.

I contacted samsung and they are claiming they had no complaints...they recommended a restore .so i tried it, i then had it go blue on me while reading a book...so I'm calling tomorrow and recommend everyone on here experiencing this to contact them...this is bs
The AT&T version has a flaw that they don't want to admit until you complain about it. I have not had any issues since I sent it in for repair.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using XDA Free mobile app
I have the same problem with mine and have sent it into samsung twice now with neither time fixing the issue
FYI - I had the same issue on a brand new, totally stock, 2 hour old Note. I had it for a week and it would blue->reboot at least once per day. I took it back to AT&T and swapped it out. I've had the replacement for 3 weeks now and it hasn't happened once.
Just sent mine back to Samsung... Should arrive there today... Hopefully they fix it
OK they closed my ticket... Replaced the LCD on my note and is being shipped back. I will keep this thread updated... I don't think it was the LCD but I could be wrong and that is a expensive repair for them to do just for the hell of it. So hopefully this fixes it.
