Hello .. Since the sources are out, i build a nice kernel for our phone ..
So here in the box:
-ext2, ext3, ext4 support (i'm working on patching it with new code support)
-Kernel HZ to 500HZ (a try, let me know)
-Some tweaks (same as in my old kernel edit).
-Adb root enabled at boot.
The initramfs is from I5800XXJPB.
Let me know your wishes, and your comments.
Here is a download link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W5IMTKYL . You can download it from the forum too. Let me know if you use it in one of your roms (PM )

Yep. The black screen was due to the fact that i choosed the wrong file, that one was a test to see if i could use another FPU emulation (guess what ? You can't).
Can anyone check the "Info" screen in setCPU for me ? Section "kernel" .
jordane1993 => It's basically the number of "tocs" (if you prefer, the number of times the kernel changes the current processus in one second). I'm not sure 500 is the right value. I'll make some tries
I got no idea, it works for me.. Are you sure you use a froyo rom ?
setcpu :
Linu version 2.6.32.9 ( [email protected]) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) #3 Thu Mar3 16:23:26 CET 2011
I found an différence in Cpu
bogoMIPS : 663.55 with the samsung kernel : 665.15
No différence after

make sure you have all the partitions on your sdcard, this rom requires it
Note: Most ROM's on their first boot take quite a bit of time (some up to 15 minutes), so be patient.

If you decide to use Linux-Swap, use a 96Mb swap partition
I have 96mb swap . and no ext2/3 .
try it with an ext3, I had the looping problem too until i reformatted my card
I used it to upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5 and it went great. Soooo much better than 1.4!! still a bit jumpy on scrolling and swiping but far more stable and reliable.

Ok the second link isn't working, so my best solution is to use the original recovery image, that you used to have, to do this i simple rerooted my phone, and pushed the flash file and it worked perfect, no errors or fc's so far!

No, that's it. The FroYo ROMs are tiny.
Holy crap, i thought because it simply said recovery it was the recovery image, not the entire rom. well my sd card will thank me!!!!!
yea it works, the froyo rom is small, thats why it runs so smoothly on your device
Not bad, although I'll personally be waiting for some of the bugs to be fixed before I head on up to Froyo.
Looking forward to it
EDIT: Dongs.
IF ANYONE runs into a "sd card no mounted" " no sdcard" problem you need to wipe the ext. part of your sd card if you have one, also remember to wipe before beginning a new rom flash, do the nanadroid backup and wipe dalvik cache for saftey just in case
does this change your hboot and make it impossible to go back to 2.1?

Ok, so after the announcement of the 3.1 update at IO yesterday, were all eagle awaiting the 3.1 update.
For those of us in europe, with 3G xooms we need a different update so don't try flash anything that is currently available.
Second and most important. There are NO Stock boot images for 3G europe, we need someone who has stock recovery to dump it and get in touch with me. WE CANNOT UPDATE IF WE INSTALLED CLOCKWORK MOD.
Once we have a stock recovery image I can post all the stock images for us to flash back to stock for the update.
Use these commands to dump the recovery image (you need to be rooted and/or have a custom kernel like Tiamat (or the one in my thread) installed so you can remount, you may also need to install busybox (use Busybo installer by Stericson from the Android Market, don't forget to open and run it after you install it):
Code:
adb remount
adb shell dd if="/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/recovery" of="/sdcard/recovery.img"
adb pull /sdcard/recovery.img
That's it, the image will be on your sdcard and copied to your computer, please upload or PM me a link.
Thanks

You're right, sorry I typed it from memory, will update it now!
That's... odd...
The kernels from the boot image that you circulated a while back, plus the kernel from this recovery image, are different.
They should be the same.
(The recovery ramdisk ro.build.version.release says 3.0.1, maybe the boot image is from 3.0? Has the MZ601 got 3.0.1 yet?)

That's normal ... a recovery image would probably have a light weight stripped down kernel, since it doesn't need to boot and run the full OS, just hte recovery OS.
It's also possible that the recovery might be the same as the US one, and the US one runs a differnet kernel to the euro one, so it's not necessarily a problem that it's different.
Oh, and any chance of a link to the recovery image you've dumped? Please.

No, they should have the same kernel. It's designed that way. (Remember, when you get an OTA, you get a recovery-from-boot.p patch that runs on startup to repatch your recovery image back to stock -- it's deliberately based on the boot image, so the patch is as small as possible)
I didn't dump the recovery image -- look a few posts up (I _still_ don't have a device yet )
ed. And I don't think a US MZ601 is out yet...The above dump looks like it's from a German Xoom, based on ro.product.locale.region.

Sorry, didn't see your edit.
EDIT: @ydaraishy: Interesting, I wasn't aware of this as I have never ran an OTA before in my life, and my XOOM was at 3.0.1 when it was released.
So, I wonder what the deal is here, will the euro OTA come with a full kernel? Maybe the method I used to split the kernel and ramdisk I posted (in order to root it) caused some change? How are you comparing them?

No, they'll binary patch it like usual.
I split the kernel and ramdisk of the recovery image, then the boot image that you had posted a while back for root, then md5'd both kernel images.

That's great. Now we just gotta wait for 3.1 in Europe!
I have been fallowing this forum for a long time and also I got my Xoom from CPW couple of weeks ago and I have to say that I'm really waiting for this update so bad, just because many people has been reviewing it and they say is really a change in performance, sometimes I find that my Xoom is quite heavy, more when I'm trying to surf the web, and sometimes when I come to the forum from it, and I will like to be an active member of this forum as well, I will try to help with anything I can and I just rooted my Xoom with neo guide.
sorry if my english is not so good.
I'm in London at the moment
and Galaxy SII owner as well
Hopefully 3.1 will show up in Europe soon. I read somewhere that T-Mobile Germany had also planned to release the update on 5/11. But no evidence for that until now.
Otherwise we have to port the CDMA Rom ;-)

It's not a Rom bro, its a kernel, your Rom will still be stock, and yes Kies will still detect it, but be aware that your warranty will be void once you root your phone (comes included with the kernel) but you can always revert back to the stock rom easily.

Its simple,
Download the kernel 'PDA_BCK_CF-root_universal_beta10.tar' as posted in the link hellismine89 posted.
Download Odin (google it, should be easy enough to find)
Get your phone into 'Download' mode. for that, switch your phone off, and turn it on again while holding the middle button and volume down key.
Open odin, and under PDA select the kernel file you had downloaded earlier. Make sure that 'PHONE EFS CLEAR' is UNchecked! Do not check it! *VERY IMP* or you will lose your IMEI.
Just click on 'start' THAT IS ALL!

Yes my friend, all looks good, You can use either one, only difference is one comes packaged with cf root the other is without, go with the above one as you don't have to go rooting all over again.
Regarding overclock, your phone will have the capability to be overclocked, but you can choose whether you want it to be or not, just install 'no frills cpu control' from the market and select your clock speed to 1000 (stock).
Generally there is no need for a backup but, it never hurts! If you get stuck on the boot screen after flashing, don't panic, just get into recovery mode (vol up+home button+power button) and clear cache and davlik cache.

I want to use the above one with the built-in CF root but the guy who has posted it says its not recommended.. and its not tested and stuff like that.I cant afford to brick this phone at ANY cost, hope that tells you why im asking 1 million questions. Thanks for being so patient.I'm currently on the latest DDKP3.Also if I do not download the no frills app will the phone be overclocked by default after I update the Kernel ?

It will only be a soft brick which can be fixed easily. . Trust me with this flashing stuff, I always have a backup and a efs backup too.
Cheers

I am on DDKP3 & using Bam's kernel beta 10 with cf root. Don't worry about the version with cf root, it works fine,no problems at all, and your phone will not get bricked that easily, just remember the efs thing though! Regarding overclocking I think bam has mentioned that it boots at 1000 (stock) by default but runs at 1200 for 5 secs or so. SO its not really a big deal, but its good to have no frills just to be sure.

Cool so I will just stay with the beta 10 with CF root just like you ,I know 11 is newer but since the dev himself doesnt use it and says its untested I'd feel safer to be with a know and used release. Thanks a ton guys!

SamMobile works (sofar one of the few where you can dll stuff from), but the firmwares i find there are not for my build. I used manual search aswell the detect device option. I get hits, i can download them but when installing/flashing they never get accepted by my phone.
Anyway, hard to find roms/kernel nowadays for such a oldshool phone.

Cyanogen(mod).com Also with an Rom installer for windows. I did it the hard way, flashing kernel with Odin (unexpected and unwanted cuss Odin froze up and stopped unexpected, after reboot i saw i had another recovery mode on my phone) to CWM and ran an unofficial Cyanogen mod with CWM through the Recovery mode of my phone (update.zip, anyway, with the CWM recovery mode you can select any file anywhere on your SD-card when that kernel is installed, no need to rename files to 'update.zip' anymore)
As a complete noob, it took me a whole night (just a single night) to find all this out on my own, so if i can, everybody can !!!! ;-p

What do you mean don't get accepted?
Exactly what is the error?

In the recovery menu it loads the package, opens the package and then i get 2 kind of errors saying "bad package" or "wrong package".
Not so sure what exactly it sais cuss did that a few days ago in the middle of the night (doing this a couple of nights now and have a big lack of sleep now) and with cwm recovery i can choose whatever file i want to use as update.zip (even with the original filename) so i putted alot of files on my sd-card and ran them all to hope one of them worked. So i got alot of errors to see till i finally got the CyanogenMod7 update file running and doing his job. Dont think im going for an Stock Rom anymore on that phone so i dont bother anymore trying with that.

You cannot flash official Samsung firmwares with a recovery. You have to use Odin. Follow this guide:
