Need your input! And help - HTC Inspire 4G

So to make the story short. I got the Captivate back in July at release.. and have been disappointed with the lack of support and updates. My wife who had an old Iphone 3g,(which has become horribly laggy due to having to be updated to the 4.0 crapware), loved my Captivate.
So I told her when the Inspire comes out, I will use her eligible upgrade and get that phone. Once I get the phone, I will trade her phones. Which we did.
Does AT&T disapprove of this? We are on the SAME family plans, have been from years with AT&T. Since AT&T uses sim cards it makes it really easy to do this. Do they consider this a breach of contract? The reason why I ask is when I was on the phone with the Service Rep they made a comment that my lines phone number shows the Captivate not the Inspire. And they wanted what was called the IPC number on the phone. Its my phone, I bought it. But with my wifes upgrade. They said They could just change the IPC numbers on my line and her line to show this but.. I dont want them to get the number then come back and say. That I did something wrong and try to make me pay from something.
What do you guys think? And have anyone you experienced this problem?

They don't care as long as you sign a new 2yr. My store does this about 5 times a day. Just make sure that the proper data plans are on each phone, especially the hspa+ data plan for the Inspire.
Enjoy your new phone.

My experience is that they don't care. They just want the right phone listed for each line. once you buy it, they don't care if you use it for another line on a family plan.

Yup, I've done this more than once... did it today, even. My son gets my hand me down phones, so I upgrade once a year. If he wants the latest phone, he can go get his own contract.

Did that today as well. They don't care. Just pay the bill.

Thanks guys, so I can go into the store and have them change the phone to mine, and have them put the new sim card in it, so hopefully it gives me the 4g.
By the way what is the number they are talking about? She told me to dial something think #66#1.. I cant remember but it will show the phones number. Anyone know how to do it?

I think I lost my Fuze, should I get another one from ATT insurance...

Hi, wondering if anybody can help me out with ATT policy. I was visiting my grandparents in Toronto when I lost my phone the day before I had to fly home to Los Angeles. Unfortunately I did not have time to look for it since I was busy packing for the trip home. Anyways when I got back I called ATT to tell them my phone was lost and they said they will sendme another phone when I pay my deductable.
Anyways I have two questions
1. Would it be possible to wait until the Touch Pro 2 comes out next month and ask for that as a replacement + cash if needed?
2. What happens if my family manages to find it and mail it back to me? Will ATT know that I found it and force me to return the replacement? Would they even care after i pay the deductable?
they'll probably just send you a refurb fuze and likely refuse the upgrade, especially when the fortress is a new release. i can't see them upgrading you even with cash.
att won't know you found your phone. i had lost a phone and reported it and found it 1 month later and went on to use it fine.
You guyz are lucky, wonder if these giant beast are so nice. :O

Seriously? Do you even know what you're talking about? :| If you report a phone stolen and find it and use it, it's no big deal UNLESS you get a new one via insurance. Then it's called fraud. You have to pay the deductible for your phone if you want it via insurance and they'll send a brand new in box one to you. No, you cannot wait till the TP2 comes out and exchange it for that. That will only happen if you've warranty exchange your fuze a lot and you complain to AT&T a lot. Quite a few people have done this. If you really didn't know, AT&T can track you via IMEI. They know which account is linked to which IMEI. They will know when you're using a blacklisted phone or when suddenly a "stolen" phone is being used on the same sim card. Don't take that risk
1) TP2 isn't comming to AT&T anytime soon, and they will never give you a better phone plus cash
2) I believe they put a status code of a bad or lost ESN id on the databases, so the phone can't be used again on the AT&T network. It may even come up as a stolen status.
That won't stop you from being able to use the phone as a PDA

#2 is not true, but #1 probably is.
I believe Cassetti is right about #2 When you call it stolen, they block the esn id so the thief can't use your phone.

the fact is : its not true. Proven fact.
thx for the info guys, i called up att and told them what happened, paid the deductable and picked up a new fuze. I ask them what happened if i manage to find it and they said most likely they will let me keep it as a back up but i would need to call them to reactivate it or something like that.
guess i;ll just skip the touch pro 2 and wait for a WM7 device or that rumored microsoft "pink" zune phone lol...
It is not blacklisted. If you find it you can use it or sell it. You don't have to "reactivate" or anything, just put a SIM card in and off you go.

Tmobile Sucks!! Never Get Tmobile!!

I have always loved tmobile and been with them for quite some time but I think I am done with tmobile. I wrote a rant over at blog that i write for. I am not advertising the blog I just want more people to get exposure to my rant and I want maybe some of you that know more about tmobile to help me understand the process or what I am thinking is wrong.
http://mobilitydigest.com/t-mobile-sucks-do-not-ever-get-tmobile/
When you got the last TP2 with the connection issues did you flash some different radio's to see if that was an issue? Or upgrade to 6.5? I know my connection drastically changed with my TP2 from radio to radio. I see your point and your pissed but you must also see tmo's point. They have sent you 4 TP2's that all failed your inspection even though they passed the refurb inspection. Ironically Blackberry 9700's are selling for $50-$100 more then a TP2 so they are actually upgrading you. You could easily sell your NIB 9700 for $350 and just buy a NIB TP2 for $300 on ebay. So going that route you end up with a brand new TP2 and $50. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I'll gladly trade you a TILT2 in mint condition or a TP2 in moderate condition + some cash for your 9700.
No i did not flash any radios or anything. it was never suggested to me by the agent i even told him it is on 6.1 and tmobile released a 6.5 should i upgrade to see if something happens and he said no dont do that so i did not. I know radios make a huge difference i was also pissed about the fact that i recieved an older model tp2 so i really did not bother messing with the radios and i wanted tmobile to fix the issue. if their agent said flash this i gladly would have and if the problem was fixed then fine but i was not going suggest a fix for them for a crappy pos refurbished device that i got.
also i know i can sell a black berry 9700 for more and then buy a new tp2 or hd2 which is the route i am going to take first thing tomorrow morning but more than anything it is policy that did not make sense and i just wanted tmobile to fix the problem so i dont have to go through this problem but it seems like I will have to. all i wanted is for them to just give me a new tp2 as part of my warranty replacement program but they wouldn't do that. oh well i will still get what i want but i am done with tmobile when my contract expires.
I hear yah, but look at it from their point of view. You've been through 4 TP2's sending each one back. At that point they must be wondering if their is a flaw in your local tmo network causing it to suck up where you live. After 4 phones they then give you a more expensive phone because their corporate handbook says they have to change phones on you. Give it a bit and think about it a bit and tmo didn't do anything so bad. Its not like their telling your TS, or sending you more refurbs. I'd just sell that bad boy and get you an HD2 like a real man. I know many carriers just getting one replacement is a total hassle and 2 is near impossible, tmo's givin you like 5 phones so far trying to make you happy. I think that deserves a lil thought. As I said I know your pissed right now, but think it over, get your 9700, sell it for $350, go buy an HD2 new in the box on craigslist. And then use your HD2 for a week and think about using your old TP2 or your new HD2 and you'll be singing Tmo songs again in the hallways.
Yup working on getting that Blackberry sold in my local area soon and then getting a HD2 locally and also it was not the same problem every time it was a different issue and being that I know my phones really well I can spot even the smallest problems and it tends to bug me and the fact that i know it is a refurbished makes me look for those problems even more. It is human nature. Anyways we will see, I have a few more months before I am down to the $50 ETF. So the day I hit that mark I am out of contract and will start looking for new phones unless tmobile changes something on me again.
Wow, thats crazy.. I have a similar problem with a Samsung phone when I first got to T-mobile in '07. I would call and complain because the phone kept giving me the same problems over and over. Even my mum was getting them (had the same phone) and it got to the point where they upgraded her line to a Blackberry Peral and I had to be stuck with a pos Samsung T-629. It got to the point where I basically went on craigslist and bought a sidekick. Since I've been with them their service has gotten better and the tech reps have been more helpful. But especially to the fact that some people know more when it comes to their phones than the tech reps themself why bother complaining when you could always try and fix it yourself? Thats how I looked at it, but I know how exactly how you feel.

What is the difference with whole same name phones?

Heres a little back story... my phone was stolen, I am with tmobile, I went into the store to replace the phone. Turned out since I had transferred from my contract to prepaid I still owed money on my contract so I wasnt covered with insurance, and they couldnt activate a new phone for me.
I called tmobile in the morning who helped straighten out my balance, but I didnt want to pay for a phone through air mail because I need the phone ASAP immediately. I had an HTC Amaze.
I went into the store where they told me they could still NOT activate me a phone, but they could add my new phone to my previous stolen phones pre paid plan. (its alot more complicated than this, but for the point of this threads sake...)
So basically if I bring in a phone they can activate my old plan and keep my old number. So I found this site http://www.everbuying.com/Wholesale-Cell-Phones-b-22.html but I do not know which phone is which because they are different names than the name brand phones.
I really really want the Galaxy S II from Samsung...or Nexus from Verizon... but which phone is close here? Which is worse? How can I find details of the best phone so I can get this situation straightened out, and get all of this horribke experience behind me?

These three are similar to the GSII Specs Hereut they all lack something. For one they are all 3G speeds. They wont let me buy the GSII at the store without paying full price so I am trying to find something close if not exact that is closer to my price range. They want $600 for the GSII at most I have like $400 and that is double what I prefer to pay...making payments is not a problem.
Here is something similar to the HTC Amaze but it has Android 4.0 on it. I was considering it but I really dont want the Amaze again...thats the one I just had that was stolen.

Otherwise thanks for the feedback, I am getting my friend one of the cheap $40 iphones so I guess well find out how fake they are or real. + 1

Need advice on a new device!

So I currently have a Motorola Droid X2... I use cyanogenmod 7.2rc1 beta2 as a custom ROM. Besides that for stable ROMs it's really only eclipse 2.2, liberty, molten or stock 2.3.5 rooted. cm9/miui4 are both in alpha stages of development and have no working camera/data usage yet and mms is shotty as well as other glitches & bugs. having the locked bootloader and all. Plus we don't get official ICS :banghead::thumbdown:
I had a few questions... First off, my 2 year contract with Verizon Wireless USA is over in December however I am eligible for an upgrade in August. I think I remember reading somewhere after all these VZW/MOTO shenanigans you can get a free 3g upgrade, if eligible, but need to renew contract for a 4g device. I'm obviously very confused by these changes and need clarification.. Basically what I'm asking is, would I be able to cop a new phone in August without having to re-up my contract? Use the upgrade for the remaining months and then sell it along with my X2? Not sure how that works and honestly I don't want to call Verizon about it until I'm due for my upgrade.
Moving on to my next problem. I am going to need a new carrier/phone. I figure since sprint still has unlimited data and their service in my area isn't that bad compared to Verizon, I'll probably sign with them. As far as actual devices are concerned, I will only buy a phone with an unlocked bootloader. Since Motorola failed to live up to their promise of unlocking their bootloaders by the end of 2011, and their overall customer support, I am not interested in purchasing any Moto phones.
Which brings me back to Sprint, lol. I know several people who have been on Sprint for a long time and tell me they're okay as long as you don't break your phone. I've heard countless horror stories of friends/family having to jump through countless hoops just to get their defective phone replaced. I've already left AT&T and will never go back to them so my options are pretty limited. I can deal with less than perfect customer support from time to time as long as I have reliable service and a reliable phone I can hack.
I've been looking at the Dinc2, since my friend has one. I know that's unlocked already. I've heard a lot of fuss over its pentile screen, but that honestly doesn't bother me much. So that can be taken into consideration as well.
I appreciate any opinions you can personally offer as to an awesome, unlocked phone, decent carriers as well as new phone releases you are looking forward to. I'd love to hear what unlocked devices you guys have as well as your favorite custom ROMs for them.
Thanks!
Cyanogenmod all day
Well, if you upgrade your phone, you're more than likely going to have to re-up your contract for an additional 2 years. As of right now, for Verizon, I would probably look at the HTC Rezound, or Incredible 4G. If you go to Sprint, I would look at the Evo 4G LTE (HTC One for Sprint), or the Evo Design 4G, but by December, you'll also have the Galaxy S3 to consider. I'm biased towards HTC phones personally, but those are the options I would look at.
I forgot to mention I'm on a family plan with unlimited data...

I can't really suggest a phone but I read that you mentioned people having problems with Sprint with getting phones replaced after they get broke.
My sister is good at messing phones up and with the $8 a month insurance you basically can hardball any phone at a wall and they will replace it for $100. I think the one thing is you just never say that you did anything wrong and most sprint stores don't care. They have gotten much better. Whatever you do don't break your phone without insurance because they wont touch the phone in fear you might swear they broke it. Get the phone insured from day one if you are accident prone. That is about all the advice I can give. They have good phones and have good service (not verizon service but still good.)
Yeah, I treat these phones like royalty. Basically it's just a computer in the palm of my hand... Accidents do happen though and I always protect all devices with insurance.
I was in Sprint once with a friend of mine. Keep in mind he wasn't a smartphone owner, but this wasn't too long ago. He had a flip phone and he wanted it replaced. It was his 4th device experiencing the same hardware problems. When we got in there Sprint did pretty much everything in their power to make sure he did not leave with a brand new replacement. They went as far as to literally take the phone apart - right in front of us - and replace internal hardware. They'd put it back together and he'd show them it still wasn't working and they would try replacing something else.
Two and a half hours later of playing with the display evo and listening to "No I don't want you to fix it I want a new phone" and "Here, maybe this will fix it, let's give it a try..." we were finally out of there. They did not give a replacement that day. Just "fixed" it. Until we got back to his house. The very next day I was there when he called customer support. They gave him the business over the phone and were 0 help. We went back to the sprint store and finally got his replacement. I think the only reason they even actually helped him with a new device is because he was mad enough to break every display case and cell phone in the place - and they knew it. It wasn't like a "here let me help you get this resolved so you can enjoy your phone and service!!" Kinda deal it was more like "get him a new phone from the back so he doesn't make a scene and gets the hell out of my store" thing .... As we were leaving, the female rep not only told us we were lucky we even got a replacement in the first place- she did it in a snobby, attitude riddled tone of voice.
For reference this is when I was thinking of terminating vzw early and jumping to sprint. My friend told me sprint is full of people who either don't give two damns or are just plain stupid. He took me along to give me an idea of what I was in for. Needless to say I didn't switch.....

Retention offers from AT&T because of Motorla's ICS scam

This is normally the type on thing you see on FatWallet, but I'm hoping XDA members will take advantage. At least it's a way to get back at Motorola a little bit.
I called to cancel my contract with AT&T. I said it was because I was disappointed over Motorola not fulfilling their promising for upgrading my phone to ICS. I have an Atrix 4G, which AT&T knows I have, and was one of the phones Motorola reneged on.
I told them I knew that wasn't directly AT&T's fault, but I was disappointed because Verizon at least got their customers a $100 rebate. AT&T offered a new phone that does run Ice Cream Sandwich at a discounted price. They did say if I got the new phone, they would want a new 2-year contract out of me. I still have nine months left on my contract. I wouldn't otherwise get a renewal upgrade till like July of next year.
So, AT&T's retention deal isn't publicized like Verizon's (sucky) one is. But if you call and act disgruntled, apparently AT&T offers you something.
The guys on forums like Fat Wallet do this stuff all the time. It's ridiculous how much they do it. But if you got screwed by Motorola and want a new phone running ICS, this may work for you.
I didn't take the offer because I actually wanted to cancel for other reasons. Even paying the AT&T early termination fee, I'm saving a lot of money over the next nine months by going to AirVoice. But, I'm a light mobile phone user. If you talk a lot and use a lot of data, you probably won't save as much as I.
A lot of people are going to want to know what the discount they offered on the new phone was. I don't know because I was trying to negotiate my way out of the new 2-year contract. They wouldn't budge on no new contract. So, I just cancelled.
This probably will work for some people. The people who don't mind signing a new 2 year contract. But if you're like me, and just don't use the phone enough to justify keeping a contract for $60/month at AT&T, you still got screwed because you still got your Motorola phone and you still don't got ICS.
Reports in this thread of what discounts people get offered would be great.
If they are good discounts reported in this thread, people should start calling Verizon and being like, what the hell? People with AT&T are getting a lot more than $100!! Use the competition involved in capitalism to our advantage.
Since some of us geeks aren't as socially adept as we could be. If they offer a discount and you don't like the deal, just say "well, let me think about it" and if you don't want to cancel, just never call them back. If they don't offer anything, just hang up the phone before they really cancel your account.
I guess I should put AT&T's customer service number up here.
1-800-331-0500
first they try to make sure they got your number right thru caller-id, if they have it right press 1
if they don't have it right, press 2 and enter your phone number in
last, press zero to talk to a customer service representative...
