Hello all,
I was just informed that my company will be transitioning to a corporate cellular plan and will be moving to Sprint. We will be receiving a Blackberry and I cringed as I have fallen in dire love with my ATT Tilt, yes, wife is a little jealous. We have a microsoft exchange server, so I can still get away with a WM6 phone, however I have a few questions and need to decide what to do by this FRIDAY! UGH!
If I can get this unlocked, can I use this on Sprint? Do they also use the sim card?
Thanks in advance.
Uh, no. Unlocking the phone would only allow you to use it with another GSM provider. Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, so there is no way to use your Tilt on their networks.
Thank you very much for the information... today is a sad day for me. That is exactly what I was afraid of. It just isn't worth keeping the min plan with full data to maintain my phone. I have only had it since November so looks like I will have to get rid of it
Anyone have any Sprint suggestions?
First off LOL to your question. And second, take a look at the Sprint Mogul, as far as I can tell it's pretty much the same phone but not as cool. There is not Tilting of the screen and you'll have to do some fancy foot work to get the GPS running on it, the camera isn't 3mp but everything else is pretty much the same. If you look in the forum under Titan then you can do some research on it.
You can tell I'm devastated... I really am . My boss was scared to tell me cause I just go on and on about my new mistress, I mean phone. I just recently made the Treo Palm OS leap to HTC WM6 and haven't looked back. I was hoping that Sprint was GSM, but since CDMA, there is no popping a SIM out and putting another in, which means I will have to carry two phones or forward my personal to business, which then means no point in keeping this phone. I'll have to figure out if CDMA can use two phone numbers at once on one phone.
if you can then I would be really suprised. 2 phones make you look cooler, well if the other wasn't a black berry
Heres a suggestion being that I work for AT&T ANS Tech Support I get these calls alot. My suggestion is keep the Tilt. Ask your IT if they could give OUTLOOK WEB ACCESS that way you can set it up in the device client of the Tilt. The other option is ask them if they wouldn't mind forwarding your work email to another email address. Another option is that if you company will be using blackberries on the server as well. Call AT&T and get the connect feature for your phone that way you could still keep your Tilt. Palm OS sucks. Looks boring can't customize anything etc. Not to mention the bug in the phone that makes it Hotsync for no reason when it isn't even connected to the computer. Let me know what you think
Thanks for the suggestion, I currently have all those happening because I have the settings. The biggest change is I no loner get to expense my phone, they will be choosing the plan, they will be paying... hence why I don't want to have my $150+ cellphone bill become my personal cellphone. They will no longer be reimburisng like before. So my hope was I could reuse this phone, but that thought has been killed off.
Feel bad for me... feel very bad for me. :lmao:
The real question is why are they switching to sprint. From what I've seen they've started to circle the drain. They had a major loss to subscribers and they had to shut down a bunch of stores. at&t and Verizon are the 2 real competitors. I wouldn't be shocked if Sprint sold to Verizon soon and t-mobile USA sold to at&t.
So in the end they're switching to Sprint... Go with the Touch or the Mogul (which is basically the 8525).
umm idk if its cdma or not but the samsung f700 is AMAZING

I wish T-Mo sold to AT&T. I need 3G! Put in my friends sim from his iPhone and played with HSDPA and he wanted to trade phones immediately. I thought EVDO was fast when I had Sprint.
I thought Tmobile didn't have 3G just Edge
Unfortunately, it was not my decision... and I would agree, I am not thrilled, but someone in our corp. office was sold a bill of sale on this idea. What I can't believe is that they are going to pay the licensing on each BB, when the Microsoft push is free! Oh well.... I still continue to cry over spilled milk.
Rquinn, thanks for the 411 on their network speed, I got some clarification and we will have their data plan, so that is good to know.
Chumley, Rquinn was saying he wishes they would sell to ATT so he could get 3G
OK, so I recently upgraded to a XV6800 by basically talking to a verizon rep and saying that the 6700 I was going to return (for a 3rd time because it had a broken headphone jack) was not cutting it anymore. I was tired of returning the phone for a new one every few months. I spend enough money with verizon that they should do me a favor and upgrade me to a satisfactory phone. The rep agreed (mainly when I told him sprint had the same phone and I would cancel my contract) and mailed me a new phone since they didn't have any 6800's in stock.
I flashed it and programmed it, everything was dandy except they never told me WHERE to mail my 6700 to for the exchange. I bugged a rep and it turns out that although they have me on the 6800 in the system, there is not a note anywhere that I need to return my 6700. The only reason I thought so was because the rep who mailed out my phone told me so.
So basically I have this 6700 sitting around. Not connected to verizon, and *technically* it doesn't need to be returned. It would make a good mobile SNES player or media player.
Although my conscience is telling me to return it anyways.
What would you do? Return it or keep it?
keep it
im not one to pee off the people who supply us with devices but if they cant sommunicate why should you
besides credit crunch sell it for xmas presents fund
Just keep it! That's a christmas present for you. Hahaha...
Yep, keep it!, Xmas is comming
yeah see nearly everyone will agree
its there fault for poor communications
Hello Everyone,
I was curious as I cannot find a definitive answer to this. Looking at the specs page on HTC (http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hd2/specification.html), it appears that this phone would possibly be usable on a US carrier. I am wondering if using the method in the link below might apply to the HD2 as well. Before you ask why I don't just wait for it to come stateside...well, what's the fun in that?
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/htc-touch-pro/120970-sprint-touch-pro-verizon.html
US Leo
Went to the ATT store yesterday to look at the Pure (hated it) and they went online to check the specs and assured me it would run on their network if it was unlocked!
Yeah...I saw that. Problem is that I am currently with AT&T and am looking to switch to a CDMA carrier. Not too happy with AT&T or T-Mobile at the moment. =\
The word is that it will come to US carriers in The first quarter of 2010. The European specs suggest it will be to AT$T or T-Mobile.
Funny, I switched to AT$T a few years back because Sprint and Verizon really sucked.
After ten years with Nextel and then Sprint, my Blackberry's screen cracked and the hangup button stuck making the phone almost unusable. Even though I was 2 months before my contract was upgrade available, they refused to, after ten years with them, subsidize a new phone. Suffered with my phone for two more months and switched to AT$T, so far they have been great to me.
Somehow I doubt it will come to AT&T, unless they are smart enough to see that this is the best contender against the iPhone. AT&T's monopoly with Apple makes them complacent and slow to provide their customers with alternatives.

Check the vid. This is the snappy WinMo phone we've been waiting for!
HTC HD2---Battery Size, is this 1230 " BIG ENOUGH"???
It's not a Beast, it's Beautiful! The Russians have given us size comparison & review, a must read. It still needs work but so far it's showing itself to be at the top of the list. I believe when it gets updated it will arrive in the US.

I agree, I just don't see it happening. Part of the reason why I left AT&T (and my iPhone) was because of the massive amount of dropped calls. I finally got fed up and switched. But considering the amount of trouble they are having with the iPhone, I doubt they would pickup it's best competitor.
Hmm, I can't remember the last time I dropped a call. Probably happens more in "population dense" areas (e.i., not here).
Anyway, I want to find the answer to this question as well. From all the specs I see the phone is theoretically capable of running on AT&T's 3G (UMTS 850 and 1900 Mhz).
Source: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2062&c=htc_hd2_us_htc_leo
However, I'm not an expert on US phone bands. Perhaps a seasoned XDA developer could help us with this?
Those specs on pdadb are not final "Datasheet State: Preliminary specifications".
But yes, it would do 3G on at&t if finalized UMTS 850 & 1900 Mhz).
I bought one
I just purchased one from amazon on pre-order, my cousin is shipping it to me as soon as it gets to him.
Anyone up for working on building an android rom for for it, not a big fan of WinMobile. In-fact this is the whole reason I got it besides the fact its a sweet phone!!!

This does sound weird..If the main reason of getting the phone is android, why not just wait for a native android phone that has a similar spec? (e.g. HTC Dragon / Acer Liquid / Experia X3)

Not trying to be a jerk, but I figured I would share my insight/experience with the issue you had with Sprint/Nextel, and will probably have with AT&T and any other provider you go with.
I work for T-Mobile currently, and have been there for over 5 years now (and will tell you right now, The HD2 is coming to us.) The issue you had is the most common complaint in the industry. The truth is, no matter where you go, it'll be the same thing. On top of it not being "fair" to customers that are just as loyal, but only have 7 years tenure instead of 10 years, it's the fact that you "only being 2 months away from your full discount pricing," that company could potentially be losing 2 months of your commitment. Meaning, if they make you wait till your contract is over, they'll get a fresh 2 years out of you. If they give it to you 2 months before your contract is over, they'll only get 22 months out of you. You see my point ? Now, what I personally think should be done is, you have 2 months to go ? Okay, we'll make your contract be a solid 26 months, and you get your "full discount" today, early.
Cellphone customers really need to be grateful about getting plan discounts, loyalty credits, full upgrades, partial upgrades. Because let me tell you. Not every business out there gives loyal customers anything. I've been a loyal "Florida Power and Light" customer for 6 years, never had a late payment and inturn have never been given a discount on my electric bill. I mean, how often does your credit card company send you a letter saying, "Hey, you've been such a loyal customer...here's a 12% off discount for being a AAA member, and for every customer you refer to us we'll give you $175 credit to your bill!" Ya know ? I'm not expecting anyone to LIKE this answer. But it IS the reason, and I'm sure the rep's answer that you're dealing with at the time, "Because!," doesn't do it for you. So I figured I'd take the time to inform you guys.

Since you work for T-Mo can post the final specs for the HD2 when they get finalized for the US? I'm with ATT and haven't had a problem with dropped calls for 4 years now.(I think it's something wrong with build of the Iphone) I'm not trying to switch carriers, just want a badass phone.

I just got off the phone with a HTC tech support. I had some questions about the release date. I wanted to know if it was going to release in Q1 2010 fiscal or Q1 2010 calendar. Get this, he said all he knew was Q1 2010 to T-mobile. sucks for me because T-mobile is non-existent in my neck of the woods.
I agree (I'm w/SECO) but TMO reception is really bad where I live & I've been following the 'LEO' for a long time patiently waiting for it & if it's only going to TMO I think I'm going to ... well maybe get some sort of 'mi-fi' to use it. I need a phone & the HD2 is what I want. Thanks

Why is that?
I know it's a dead horse. And some people get have different results. But yesterday I tried to exchange my G2X due to freezing, reboots, and lock ups while on wall charger (running official GB). (This is still my first G2X, my past exchange attempt was to get less screen bleed which failed.)
This time the agent told me they are aware of issues post update install and can do nothing. Then they told me I have to wait until LG has a fix. This is the same results I got when I complained of screen bleed and was denied a replacement due to that.
I usually don't get too excited, but based on principal this is beat. I know it's nothing new to some of you but I'm not sure where to go next. I really want to see if LG will ever own up to this and anything else, but I'm sure my issues are hardware based.
T-Mobile: There is a known issue with this phone after the 2.3 update. At this time, there is no further information I need.
T-Mobile: LG is aware of this issue and are working closely to resolve the issue.
Francis Scardino: ok.
T-Mobile: I am unable to process an exchange for you.
T-Mobile: I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Francis Scardino: So what do I do?
T-Mobile: You would have to wait until LG comes to a resolution for this issue.
Francis Scardino: I was told that last time about the light bleeding through the screen issues. The phone is not really reliable right now and I need it for work and do not have a home phone. There must be another resolution.
T-Mobile: I definitely understand, Francis. However, this phone does have a few known issues. This is the only thing that we can advise you of.
Francis Scardino: That's quite disappointing. I understand you can only do what you are allowed to do, but I have to find some other resolution. I cannot afford for my phone to turn off while charging at night, my job requires 24 hour on call.
Francis Scardino: Is there an escalation contact I can call. I have to come up with something other than buying a new phone. This one is not very old.
Francis Scardino: I just changed my contract to 2 years, and there is no equipment discount. I'm stuck.
T-Mobile: Unfortunately, there is no escalation process for this issue.
T-Mobile: We can set up call forwarding so that whoever calls your cell phone it will go to another phone.
Try to actually go into a T-Mobile store and make a big deal there

I hate to say it, laissez-faire kinda guy that I am, but we need some kind of consumer protection legislation to prevent this kind of passing the buck.
Get on the phone and call a live person - ask for tech support, not a customer rep.
Sorry to hear that. I am currently on my second (freezing 3x a day) phone and I was offered another G2X exchange but I refused it. I told them they were just passing around refurb junk sent in by other G2X owners. To my surprise, I was offered a full upgrade (Got Tmobile in April 2011 with 2 year contract). It was a customer service rep that actually gave me that. I thought it was bs so I called back a week later to verify that the early full upgrade was noted in my account and it is. I would only be able to get a phone at the Tmobile website or at a corporate store. They said it would be 80% off the retail price. I am waiting for the Samsung Hercules to use that early full upgrade. I'm pretty sure they log every time you called in with notes of the reason of the call. I called in about 5 times (at least) so I think that's why I was offered the early upgrade. I would try calling in again at a different time. Try early morning around 7AM and then 8PM. That way you wont get the same person. You will get different results with different people you speak with. Call them again and good luck.
I was able to get another replacement overnighted to me yesterday... It should be here today. I did it all through the Live Chat online. I told them my phone would shutoff by itself, and it would require a battery pull, and he issued a replacement for me.
If I were you, I would just keep on trying until they offered to send you a replacement. It's worth multiple tries.

And you care about concealing water damage for the purpose of returning it to these thieves? T-Mobile knows for a damn fact there is good G2X's out there. They just don't want to give this gug another one in fear he might get another damaged G2X since it appears to be a 75% chance he would. Exchanging phones cost them money but they could give a **** less that we spent our hard earned money for a phone that we sometimes can't even use.
We signed a contract with T-Mobile and they entered into a contract with us to provide use with products and service as advertised. You see. I believe in a eye for a eye and two wrongs do make a right. You **** me over and I will **** you over twice as bad
Tmobile customer service is going to ****. Hear you have someone who's phone is not working as expected but they don't want to exchange it because it costs them money. T-Mobile knows there are good G2X'w out there. If all of them had problems then every customer who has one would be calling. I don't even care about the merger anymore. Its apparent T-Mobile is prepping for it quite well.

I will certainly try again. I just can't wonder if this whole debacle will ever bring a full resolution. Is LG working on something? Are they just buying time to phase it out? What will those who have similar results like me have in the future? Will a fully fixed G2x ever hit the shelves..?
Anyone who got a replacement within the last week, what model number phone did you get?

T-Mo doesn't want o give him another phone because they will have to pay for it out of their own pocket. LG will not give you a new phone because they are incompetent manufacturers, along with being liars and thieves, ...while T-Mo simply can't afford to give away phones that they have to pay for.

T-Mobile can afford it. Their a multi billion dollar company. They sold you a phone to use on their network and it is up to them to make sure it works as advertised for 1 year from purchase. After this ends, T-Mobile can try to recupe their losses from LG but its known policy, their responsible for making sure that phone works within the first year providing the damage was not done by the customer. There is no ifs ands or butts about it. It is what it is and their beating around the bush. Do you think the middle class wooing man has enough money to keep buying phones because its provider wont provide him with a working one? This is bad business and you know it. I don't care if returning G2X's placed them into bankruptcy. The customer is always right and they must fix it.

Yes, the manufacture is ultimately responsible for the warranty but it is up to your providor to be the middle man and exchange the phone for you. They then send the defective phone back to the manufacture to be fixed, replaced or reimbursed.
It is up to the company you purchased the phone from to replace the phone. I didn't buy a phone from LG. I gave my money to T-Mobile who purchased the phone from LG. If I purchase the phone through Amazon then I would contact them for a replacement. If I buy a phone from a middle man than I expect that middle man to fulfill their end of the deal by making sure the device they sold me is not defective and can be used as advertised.
Its a very simple concept for anyone to understand. I know this to be the case since T-Mobile, the middle man exchanges multiple phones every single day.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
If you purchase a product from Best Buy or Walmart, and that product fails after the retailer's return policy has expired you are almost certainly responsible for contacting the manufacturer yourself. Most retailers have 30 day or even 14 day return policies depending on the product.
Arguing with you is like shooting fish in a barrel... you haven't made a valid point yet!
This whole G2X thing is garbage anyways.
Three months ago, I called into T-Mobile and did a contract renewal. I ordered 4 G2X's and 1 Defy for my 11 year old daughter...never would I have thought the Defy would be the best device in the bunch. It just works.
I called in within the first week about the phones shutting off, GPS taking over 25 minutes on 1 device to get a lock and was assured its all software and that LG is getting ready to release a software upgrade that will fix the issues, I should have sent them back and been done at that point instead of trusting what T-Mobile told me. Instead I had 4 replacements sent at one time, sent 3 of them back as they were worse than the originals. T-Mobile then sent me 3 more, fail. When I called back I asked to just send them back and was told i was past my 14 day period, even though it was noted on my account that I had called in previously in regards to sending them back and was told about the software update...that didnt change anything.
Next they decided the batteries were bad so they sent me 4 batteries, well that didnt solve a damn thing. They had me at that point contact LG, that got me a big "your a consumer, we cant offer any details on an updated software, but if you like you can send your phones back to us and we will send you replacements or fix the ones you have". Basically no go with that either.
Back to calling T-Mobile as I noticed now I had $100.00 charge on my bill for them sending me replacement phones!! The lines with insurance were only charged 5 bucks, the other 2 were charged $20!! They were unwilling to waive the fee's when I called about them! However they offered me replacement phones again if I wanted, and naturally at $50 bucks shipping again, I said no I wont pay for shipping again and finally got to loyalty and they waived the shipping if I wanted to try again, which knowing it wouldnt help did anyways just for the chance..I was right, it didnt help.
Then finally the wonderful, magical, all ending software update came...ta-da! Finally! Nope, wait. Still have the same issues, just not nearly as often as before. It seems to be about once a day now that one of the phones will shut off randomly, The GPS is a bit better on 3 of the phones but mine, nope. Still takes a good 10 minutes to get a lock.
When I called T-Mobile to tell them this great "fix" they were promising me didnt do a damn thing they said they know, and that the software update had been recalled but LG is currently working on a fix and to just give it time, they would not offer me anymore replacements as it doesnt seem to fix "MY" issues..lol, wtf T-Mobile. Kiss my ass.
I ended up filling a complaint with the BBB, I dont know if it will help or do anything at all but honestly, way I see it is it cant hurt. That was Sunday evening, I dont know how long it takes to hear anything back, or if I will at all but we will see.
T-Mobile use to be awesome, I am an old SunCom customer and when T-Mobile took over SunCom I was leery of what may become of the company I loved, T-Mobile really stepped it up and I had no complaints, recently though they pretty much just suck. I dont know what provider I will go with next but it wont be T-Mobile, yet I hate Verizon, Sprints horrible, AT&T with the merger..maybe I dont need phones anymore lol ffs.

My replacement just came in about an hour ago with Gingerbread pre-installed. The model number is LG-P999DW. (Checked LG Updated), so it is NOT a refurb!
Dude this is EXACTLY what's happened to me. I've had 4 exchanges and the caller rep said very matter of factly 'Sorry, we can no longer offer you a G2x exchange. Either keep the G2x you have or we'll send you out a comparable phone, the G2.' I got into explaining how that decision doesn't make any sense since I'm holding up my end of the deal by paying my bill...blah, blah, blah. And he said 'The device I'm told I can offer you today is the G2.' By some of the responses, I guess I'll just keep calling in until someone breaks down. I would LOVE to get $$ toward a Hercules, but it sounds like that's the good fortune of who you talk to.

Best Buy and Wal-Mart provide you merchandice but not a service. You don't pay them a monthly fee to lease a product from them. If you sign a contract and purchase a phone for the subsidized price, you are pretty much leasing the phone.
T-Mobile has been exchanging devices with the first year since I can remember. Hell, they exchanged 5 G2X's for me and 3 Sensations within the past 4 months. You can provide a service for one of your customers and not the next. An attorney would eat this alive in a court of law. By their POLICY they need to provide you with a working replacement or exchange your device for another comparable one of equal or lesser value. They CANT just tell you to suck it up and keep paying them monthly for something that doesn't work.
I don't understand why you can't comprehend this. Instead you want to compare Best Buy to a mobile service providor which is apples and oranges. Last time I checked. You don't enter into a contract or pay a monthly fee for a service to Best Buy.
Get off Tmobiles nuts and realize your wrong.

Very interesting discussion...
I can tell you in no uncertain terms that ultimately LG is responsible for the product. The argument that you "Bought" the phone from T-Mobile, or you "leased" the product from T-Mobile is invalid. Your warranty is with LG.
We were all allowed 14 or 30 days to return the phone. Of course most of us held out for the "update/fix" until it was too late to return.
THIS is why I worked to find another remedy to the situation and ultimately had the class action law suit filed.
For any of you wanting further information about the CAL, contact my attorney directly.

So I currently have a Motorola Droid X2... I use cyanogenmod 7.2rc1 beta2 as a custom ROM. Besides that for stable ROMs it's really only eclipse 2.2, liberty, molten or stock 2.3.5 rooted. cm9/miui4 are both in alpha stages of development and have no working camera/data usage yet and mms is shotty as well as other glitches & bugs. having the locked bootloader and all. Plus we don't get official ICS :banghead::thumbdown:
I had a few questions... First off, my 2 year contract with Verizon Wireless USA is over in December however I am eligible for an upgrade in August. I think I remember reading somewhere after all these VZW/MOTO shenanigans you can get a free 3g upgrade, if eligible, but need to renew contract for a 4g device. I'm obviously very confused by these changes and need clarification.. Basically what I'm asking is, would I be able to cop a new phone in August without having to re-up my contract? Use the upgrade for the remaining months and then sell it along with my X2? Not sure how that works and honestly I don't want to call Verizon about it until I'm due for my upgrade.
Moving on to my next problem. I am going to need a new carrier/phone. I figure since sprint still has unlimited data and their service in my area isn't that bad compared to Verizon, I'll probably sign with them. As far as actual devices are concerned, I will only buy a phone with an unlocked bootloader. Since Motorola failed to live up to their promise of unlocking their bootloaders by the end of 2011, and their overall customer support, I am not interested in purchasing any Moto phones.
Which brings me back to Sprint, lol. I know several people who have been on Sprint for a long time and tell me they're okay as long as you don't break your phone. I've heard countless horror stories of friends/family having to jump through countless hoops just to get their defective phone replaced. I've already left AT&T and will never go back to them so my options are pretty limited. I can deal with less than perfect customer support from time to time as long as I have reliable service and a reliable phone I can hack.
I've been looking at the Dinc2, since my friend has one. I know that's unlocked already. I've heard a lot of fuss over its pentile screen, but that honestly doesn't bother me much. So that can be taken into consideration as well.
I appreciate any opinions you can personally offer as to an awesome, unlocked phone, decent carriers as well as new phone releases you are looking forward to. I'd love to hear what unlocked devices you guys have as well as your favorite custom ROMs for them.
Thanks!
Cyanogenmod all day
Well, if you upgrade your phone, you're more than likely going to have to re-up your contract for an additional 2 years. As of right now, for Verizon, I would probably look at the HTC Rezound, or Incredible 4G. If you go to Sprint, I would look at the Evo 4G LTE (HTC One for Sprint), or the Evo Design 4G, but by December, you'll also have the Galaxy S3 to consider. I'm biased towards HTC phones personally, but those are the options I would look at.
I forgot to mention I'm on a family plan with unlimited data...

I can't really suggest a phone but I read that you mentioned people having problems with Sprint with getting phones replaced after they get broke.
My sister is good at messing phones up and with the $8 a month insurance you basically can hardball any phone at a wall and they will replace it for $100. I think the one thing is you just never say that you did anything wrong and most sprint stores don't care. They have gotten much better. Whatever you do don't break your phone without insurance because they wont touch the phone in fear you might swear they broke it. Get the phone insured from day one if you are accident prone. That is about all the advice I can give. They have good phones and have good service (not verizon service but still good.)
Yeah, I treat these phones like royalty. Basically it's just a computer in the palm of my hand... Accidents do happen though and I always protect all devices with insurance.
I was in Sprint once with a friend of mine. Keep in mind he wasn't a smartphone owner, but this wasn't too long ago. He had a flip phone and he wanted it replaced. It was his 4th device experiencing the same hardware problems. When we got in there Sprint did pretty much everything in their power to make sure he did not leave with a brand new replacement. They went as far as to literally take the phone apart - right in front of us - and replace internal hardware. They'd put it back together and he'd show them it still wasn't working and they would try replacing something else.
Two and a half hours later of playing with the display evo and listening to "No I don't want you to fix it I want a new phone" and "Here, maybe this will fix it, let's give it a try..." we were finally out of there. They did not give a replacement that day. Just "fixed" it. Until we got back to his house. The very next day I was there when he called customer support. They gave him the business over the phone and were 0 help. We went back to the sprint store and finally got his replacement. I think the only reason they even actually helped him with a new device is because he was mad enough to break every display case and cell phone in the place - and they knew it. It wasn't like a "here let me help you get this resolved so you can enjoy your phone and service!!" Kinda deal it was more like "get him a new phone from the back so he doesn't make a scene and gets the hell out of my store" thing .... As we were leaving, the female rep not only told us we were lucky we even got a replacement in the first place- she did it in a snobby, attitude riddled tone of voice.
For reference this is when I was thinking of terminating vzw early and jumping to sprint. My friend told me sprint is full of people who either don't give two damns or are just plain stupid. He took me along to give me an idea of what I was in for. Needless to say I didn't switch.....
