I accidentally dropped the battery of my optimus one in water when I was forced to take the battery out in order to restart the phone. Now whenever I plug in the charger, it won't charge at all, and battery indicator pro says that the battery's status is 'overheat'.
Has anyone bought a replacement battery from ebay, or know a place where I can get one? I was originally gonna try to claim warranty but it appears that there is a a white sticker of some sort on the battery which can detect if it has come in contact with water. At the bottom of the battery, where the connectors are, can you guys see if you have a small white rectangular sticker or paper? Mine is coloured red and I do not remember if it was like that originally XD

ah damn, I wonder if I can try to claim it off warranty... although I've read stuff on other forums where they refused to service it or made the user pay for the fixes due to them having a red sticker.

...seriously my cusin dropped his nokia 6303 in the lake and it got it out and leave it a couple of days ...and it worked...i dont think the battery cells were damaged ...how long it was in the water?
It was less than 5 seconds... but the entire battery was fully submerged and enough for the white sticker to turn pink. I bought the phone on the 1st of feb, so if the entire lg sticker is gone after 2 weeks, wouldn't they think its rather suspicious? lol
I looked up the model of the battery, LGIP-400N and bought 2 on ebay. I know they won't be as good as the original but at least it'll charge... even if I have to charge it every night ><;;
but please follow my advice ok? remove the cover sticker let it be "basic" then put it to dry and wait a day ..and try again...see the contacts if they are ok and so on
try this too . Rice helps adsorb the water. so put it in rice for 2 days and see what happens

haha, I tried the rice trick but probably didn't do it for long enough... I'll just hold out on the current charge until I get the new batteries, don't think I wanna put my battery on radiator or stove etc... XD

Heat damages Li-Ion batteries, so placing it on something hot or even warm is not recommended. What you may try is to blow warm air over it with a hair drier. Unpacking it might help, but then it may not fit perfectly inside the phone, start moving around and disconnect. Either way, the battery's warranty is void now that the sticker is red (indeed that's what it does, marks a battery that made contact with liquids or moisture) so you may try anything before discarding it. Yet, getting the water out could, in theory, make it work again just like before.
could there be any damages to the phone by using a battery in such a condition? I need something to hold out till my new batteries get here... and I dont want to damage the phone before they do ><;
What is the price of 18000 battery ... my kid plays a lot with phone. He is still playing with it.
He dropped it so many times and the screen is bit damaged. I went to service cneter and asked for the replacement. They said it will cost me around 1670 INR.

1800mAh: Personally, I find that the price isn't justifiable considering the difference from stock is only 300mah, there are also a few comments about mugen batteries from this thread.
I think you can purchase the original from LG's parts department, it'll obviously be more costly than the generic batteries you find on eBay.

I tried looking for them on the lg website but I couldn't find anything about them online. Any chance you can link me to the page that has them? I wouldn't mind paying more to get a genuine battery since I'm pretty sure a generic battery voids the warranty.
One should never play with Li-Ion or LiPo batteries they explode most of the time. I have a rc helicopter which has both in it one for radio and one for the motor and esc. It exploded when i try to puncture and release some gases inside one of the bloated battery.

I woke up this morning and found my phone (7 Pro) was mildly wet on the bottom. I slid open the keyboard to make sure it wasn't wet everywhere and it wasn't. After I dried off the bottom and started using it it began getting wet again. When I opened the battery cover to investigate I found the source of the liquid and immediately pulled the battery out. There is now discoloration on the battery and inside the battery hutch. The battery appears to have stopped leaking this liquid but it has only been an hour. I am obviously concerned that this has damaged my phone. The phone was working though when I checked my email and discovered it was wet.
When I researched it said Lithium ion batteries aren't supposed to leak but this is the only explanation I can come up with. The phone wasn't near water and since the top half of the phone wasn't wet, this must be the case.
Is my phone damaged?
Can I use the old battery from the TP2 (both batteries say RHO160 on them)?

I already wrote to HTC but I don't think I'll hear back from them until tomorrow. I hope they don't pull some **** about it being water damage...

Well now I'm using my old TP2 battery and it's working fine. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the phone which is reassuring, but who knows in the long run. What happened to your phone exactly? Which model do you have etc?
Also HTC were very understanding (though I got a female service rep) and they're sending a new battery my way. I'm too scared to try the old battery again.

I bought my phone on ebay and it's an unlocked unbranded htc 7 pro, so no I can't just go get a replacement.
It must have just been the battery since I have tried 2 old TP2 batteries and neither have leaked so the phone is not destroying batteries .
My gf washed my phone. It had like 7% or less when it went into wash. Full cycle.
I took battery out, put in rice for like 2 days, then I put it in warm place, on dash of car in sun for 20 minutes at a time in between delivering pizzas, ect....
I throw away the battery, and I use one of my back-up HD2 batteries. I use the external charger to charge it.
I boot it up, and it works! Touch screen, buttons, internet, speaker, camera! EVERYTHING. The screen after 2 days even looks perfect. No discoloration.
One issue.....
Battery drain. It loses like 1-2% battery per minute, even in airplane mode and screen is off. It won't last more than 40 minutes with moderate to low usage.
I plugged it into USB via my pc when it was at 15%. An hour passes, and now it's 3%. I confirm that it is plugged in, and the "charging" animation happens.
It's not the battery, because it's brand new.
What is the issue? Is it a short? Can I fix this? The phone is 100% working condition except for the horrible battery life.
I appreciate anyone's insight into this issue....
I had a similar issue on an older HTC Elf way back in the WM6.1 days(... lol 'way back').
I hope you have insurance and a friend who can sell it that it's not your fault to get you a new phone for free cause this is probably damaged some component inside the phone. Fixing it your self is pretty much impossible since it's not encouraged at all (there is very little support resources) and the manufacturer isn't just going to sell you parts to fix your phone.
If you don't have insurance I wish you the best of luck anyways.
(However I hope I'm wrong about all this, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. :\ )

Yeah....no insurance unfortunately...
I know the phone is going for $295 shipped NEW on ebay at the moment, but still...
I don't know if I want a new HD2 or if I should just wait a month or two until the Samsung Hercules comes out.....
You are lucky that your phone is working....it seems there is some short on the board...which is difficult to repair as most of these have 7 layers PCBs....sell it off and get a new one..
nice that it still works.. sounds like a short though if your battery is getting drained.. tough stuff is even if you dry it completely the water leaves residue on the circuitry. even if you get rid of the battery draining, the circuitry is more vulnerable to further damaging all on its own
well my phone got wet on the back with a case, then i took off the case it and the back which was all wet, the battery was wet to and so was under it, i took out the battery and dried every thing and it worked, everything did, the speakers and buttons. so later today the phone just shut off and wouldnt turn on. so i thought it died and i tried charging and just the light would flicker on the top left of the phone. so i put it in rice for about 5 hours and i put battery back on and now when i press the the power button. the screen just turns on like u can see light, just a black screen. then it goes away.
the battery has some green stuff on one of the gold things that conencts your batteries.
So i oredered another battery off of ebay, do you think that would fix it?

Sounds like the water fried something. Same thing happened when my 3yr old nephew wanted to ”wash” his DS. The first thing you should have done was remove the battery and store it in rice for 24 to 48hrs. Drying the phone from the outside doesn't remove the water that was sucked on the inside

yeah i would have done something right away but the phone worked right after.
have you tried to dry it with a dryer? sounds stupid but works!

Yeah the water will have short circuited something. Best to pull the battery straight away and not put it back in again until you are sure that the phone is completely dried.
There's limited damage water can do, if there's no power.
In answer to your question, I don't think that a new battery will help but if you've ordered it then there's no harm in trying The green stuff will be were the battery connector has sort of rusted.

So someone dropped my phone in the water a month ago and she didn't say anything and I turned my phone on and of course it went glitchy on me ... restarting, working, then restarting on its own, etc, etc.
I put it in rice, let it sit for awhile and it didn't work.
Fast forward a month later, it seems to be working well, EXCEPT, the battery doesn't hold the charge well at all.
Now would this be an actual battery issue or the phone itself discharging the battery quickly?
Can't find a local place to sell me a battery so thought I'd ask her before ordering online.

It could very well be a short circuit inside the phone which "eats" up your battery, i had a w910 with that issue once, and of course a new battery didn't help at all. Notice if the phone is unusually heated while in stadby or in use
Well the battery drops from 100% to 93% in the span of 15 minutes maybe.
I don't see how the battery could be the issue, since it's encapsulated pretty well, but I thought I'd ask here just in case.
You probably are right, some kind of short circuit going on.
The phone doesn't run TOO hot, but it's relatively warm, can't figure out how it was before now. lol
If you've dropped it in water then I would suspect its the phone and not the battery is the problem. Modern lithium batteries are well encased in plastic so its hard to damage them with water. Get your phone checked out by an expert before you go buying a new battery.
P.S I suprised the rice thing didnt completely fix it! It worked twice for me
More than likely a short within the phone somewhere.
Try to take it apart via youtube videos.. see if you can spot something yourself.
Might as well since its not covered under warranty anymore anyways

I agree. Turning a phone on after it's gotten wet is the worst thing you can do. The person who dropped your phone in the water and then didn't have the courtesy or guts to tell you should fork over the money for a replacement.
Put it in the microwave like that insane SIII owner did.

Yup, my friend's cleaning lady.
Then she said she THOUGHT it was her employer's phone (my friend). lol wtf?
So I asked her if that made it alright to not say anything even if it was her employer's phone? lol
Anyways, taking $20 off each of her next 5 visits to my friend's house for cleaning.

I have had batteries that got damaged by water. So you can't rule that out without testing, i.e. new battery or borrow one from a friend.
Also, I have found that silica gel sealed with the device in a tupperware container will sometimes fix problems that rice won't. You can find it at hobby/craft stores in kits used for drying flowers.
I have also had success doing this:
As mentioned by a poster earlier, search youtube or the web for dis-assembly instructions. Look for corrosion and burnt areas, clean with isopropyl alcohol and dry thoroughly. re-assemble and test.

While batteries are well encapsuled, its not water entering the battery that damages it, but the battery being discharged below safe values due to a water short circuit.
Discharging it too low, damages it permanently, causing it to loose capacity.
Hi,
My son got a hold of my HTC One X and decided to throw it into the bath. Basically the screen was black and the only sign of power was the BACK and HOME light where lit, but not the RECENT.
I took it apart and let it dry the best I could but unfortunately I ripped one of the ribbons near the top of the mobile.
I have attached photos.
1) Is my phone completely screwed or is there a way I can fix this?
2) The ribbon I ripped can it be easily replaced?
3) The lights from the pictures appear instantly when I plug in the battery and stay on sometimes flickering now and again. The back of the phone also becomes extremely warm.
All help is greatly appreciated and I hope I can fix this phone as I still have 12 months contract on it

It's hard to tell what ribbon cable you ripped from that picture. I'll check my One X at home to see what cable that is when I get home but realistically, you'll have to replace the part to the ribbon cable that you tore as you can't just mend those cables. And there's a really high chance you'll need to replace that motherboard from water damage. It's probably cheaper to buy a new phone.

If it's been submerged like that even the parts probably have very little value....
If it happened in your house maybe your home insurance could cover it? might be worth checking the policy.

Sorry to say but it's not worth fixing or selling. I'd look into that insurance if you've got a home insurance policy.
That cable appears to go to the screen so you'd be looking at replacing the entire unit if you were to try and fix it.

I still have 12 months on the contract and the phone is worth around £400 so I don't mind spending up to £100 to fix it.
Also, I tried plugging just the motherboard into my usb port on my laptop but the phone won't detect, the motherboard heats up but nothing shows on the computer.
Is there anyway I can retrieve the photos/videos from it?

It would cost you over £200 to fix it. Would be cheaper to buy a nexus 4. Or a used phone if you're into that.
That motherboard is dead. It would cost hundreds of £ again to retrieve the data on there you'd have to get a data recovery specialist. Their fee can range from hundreds to thousands depending on how difficult it is to retrieve the data.

I will put it on Ebay as I seen some selling for parts etc.. try and get something for it, then just pick up a cheap phone to see out my days of this contract.
I seen a lot of good reviews on a product called "Reviveaphone" which is a bag of solution that clears the minerals causing harm to the motherboard etc.
Does anyone know if they are legit products or had any success with them?

I took the phone apart and dryed it completely before I tried turning it back on.
Also, bit off topic but do you know if you unlock a phone during its contract does it effect terms and conditions?
The cable you tore goes to the digitizer. Unfortunately, you would have to replace both the lcd and digitizer which are fused together.
I would suggest ordering 99% isopropyl alcohol and either cleaning the motherboard using alcohol and toothbrush, or soaking the motherboard in the alcohol. Of course, it might already be completely fried.
