[Q] G2X Shutdown issue

my g2x shut down and wont turn on..i charged it over night... it took like 3 hours to get to 99 percent...it took a while....i left it over night and this morning it was off and wouldnt come back on...i called tmobile and they told me to try to get a extra battery..but no one has em yet..and they cant exchange it cuz i bought it off of craigslist...anybody know anything that will be helpful?

Try holding down the volume down and power button at the same time beware it will wipe the device but may get it to boot not sure

Had the same problem. Try pulling the battery out insert it back in. I had them ship me a new replacement.

promptly go back to the person on craigslist and slap them in the face. I hope you @ least got a deal on the phone. Hopefully you shouldnt have to wait to long for replacement batteries to be made by some manufacturer. good luck

It happened to me 3 times today, my phone shuts down and won't turn back on until I take it out and put it back in, it's because it gets overheated and the phone shuts down itselfs, it must be a defective battery that makes the phone really hot when it was in my pocket.I went home and replace it with another battery (from another G2x i was about to send back to Tmobile because of bad light bleeding from the top corners), and everything works perfectly. I start to love my phone a little better now.

That same weird thing happened to me one morning I was scared but all I did was took my battery out let it cool out for a while because I noticed my device was hot then it said system check under the LG logo then booted up

its a shame you didn't just pull the battery. its not a hardware issue and this android build isn't the first to do that.. there are some issues with this build of android its obvious.. give some time more builds will come including cm7 which you will find rock solid soon enough.

I had two g2xs with the problem, and I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue.
When I charged it, I noticed the back got really hot.
On that suspicion, I went to a different TMobile store and got one from a different batch, by looking at the manufacture date on the back of the box.
No more problems.

p.s. I'm pretty sure a software "fix" will involve underclocking/undervoltaging. Lame.

Hello,
So we’ve been working on this issue for quite a while. And have come up with a semi-practical solution. This might interest some of you, who have this issue.
Issue:
Both I and my friend opted out to purchase the new and wonderful LG g2x phone. After receiving the phones we came against a very similar issue. The cellphone unit would shutdown/turnoff during the charge [car or wall]. The shutdown would occur around 95% of battery charge. In addition the phone would get hot. After the shutdown to start the phone would require pulling the battery out of the unit and reconnecting it again, otherwise known as: Perform a battery pull.
Trials:
So after doing some research and funding out that LG is literally doing nothing about this issue, [great testament to their corporate integrity] we decided to take on this issue. At first we also believed that it is, indeed, the battery that gets heated and goes offline after reaching some temperature. After recognizing the poor quality of the battery, I’ve decided to purchase a better quality one online. No surprise really the phone would still lockup at 95% charge.
At this point I took it upon myself to resolve this issue with what resources I have available. I am an MIT student and have a high tech engineering lab available at my disposal, in addition to some free time with a winter break and all. Anyways, I pulled the phone apart and this is what I’ve discovered…
Discovery:
So inside the phone right next to the 4 connecting diodes that connect the battery to the cellphone unit are 2 semis [semiconductor hubs] that are responsible for providing battery charge information to the cellphones cpu [central processing unit] in addition theres also a line running to those semis that probably carries some sort of information [current] that the semis are also responsible for.
The first approach that we took was through the hardware, and killed that additional line and allowed the semis to only be responsible for the battery charge. The results were somewhat positive. Although the phone would freeze and glitch like crazy it would not shutdown with a subsequent necessity of pulling the battery.
We also noticed that it was the two semis that would get hot actually and lockup shutting the phone up and requiring a battery pull. The reason you need to pull the battery is because the iodes would overheat and completely glitch out, also even though the phone was now powered off there still was a current running between the battery and the phone. Only the battery pull would allow the diodes to drop the charge and reset to the position for the phone to be functional again and able to power up.
Solution:
So the idea was to find a software solution, which would free up this one line running into semis and allow them only to carry the responsibility for reporting the battery charge to the cpu. Believe it or not the first thing that came to my mind was the solution.
The app called Advance Task Killer (ATK) [available free on the market] proved to be useful. I do understand that this program is not very effective and only kills running progs in the foreground. However, that single line is also not very important to information transfer and becomes useless after you clear the cellphone’s foreground information transfer.
Basically when you run atk the line becomes inactive and you can charge the phone without any lockups. I’ve been doing that for about 10 days now. Discharging the battery to about 17% and charging it all the way up again and the phone has not yet turned off once and required a battery pull, nor has it been getting hot.
The idea is to clear the line prior to putting the phone on charge [car or wall]. So what you do is run atk few times [twice at least] then plug the phone in. this worked for both me and my boi here @ mit. After a week plus of testing we decided to release this onto the public.
We both a running stock lg g2x gingerbreads and have not tested it on any other roms, however, I suspect that it will have a similar effect on more leaner and cleaner roms like CS7.
Hope this helps those who are still struggling with this issue.
P.S.
In addition I would like to add that we did pull the battery apart in the lab and found that the stock battery was complete SHAYT! Some of the cells were cracked and overall it was just poorly manufactures. Cracked cells inside the power unit diminish its capacity to carry charge by a factor razed to n^power. Also may cause the battery to heat up during the final stages of its charge process [around 95%] due to the fact that to go the last 5% it will require higher resistance also in n^power. I suspect that in this great economy LG is cutting corners whatever place it can so there’s prolly very minimal quality control in power unit production. To those who think that they lose charge too quickly, that the battery gets too hot during charges, and possibly causing the phone to lock up: If you are using the stock battery, you may want to consider replacing it.
P.P.S.
Overall it is a hardware issue, in our opinion, that could be fixed with the use of the software, by rendering that extra line inactive for example. However, I would like to NOT compliment LG as a corporation and organization in general on their moral standing and responsibility that they carry to their customer base by doing completely nothing about this issue!

[Q] Water Damage: Microphone and battery drain problems

Ok, I was stupid. I jumped in the pool with my HTC One S. After 24 hours of letting it dry everything works perfectly EXCEPT Two items. (It has been over a week since the incident)
1. The microphone NO LONGER works. I can use the speaker phone to talk, but now I can't use the phone as regular phone. Is there anyway to fix this? Replace it? For now I am just going to use a bluetooth headset.
2. The battery drains CRAZY fast compared to before. Could the water have damaged the battery, or did it damage something else that is causing the battery to drain. Is there a replacement battery yet available?
Otherwise, the phone works as new.

Are you sure the microphone itself is damaged? I once had a few drops of water go into my HTC Legend, and the earpiece/mic stopped working, BUT it was because the phone thought there was a headset plugged in, not because the earpiece/mic themselves were damaged. The problem resolved itself eventually.
Try powering off the device and sealing it in a ziplock bag with some uncooked rice for a while, that should hopefully soak out any moisture.
Dunno about the battery drain though, but would be useful to get an app like BetterBatteryStats to see if there is anything that is obviously draining the battery software wise.

Its possible to replace the microphone, I just seen a site that will do it, Maybe you could repair it yourself if you feel upto the job..
However i cannot see any sites for replacement battery, Its not like a normal battery, Well it kinda is only it doesnt have the gold connectors, It has wires that are soldered directly to the motherboard.. I saw this on a youtube video..
If you are good with this sorta stuff, try to fix it yourself on the cheap..
I would say the battery drain is due to water damage, Maybe damaged connections between battery and phone... But you cannot guarantee this

Batteries should pop up on ebay soon I'd guess, didn't find any now though. Use Ville and Z520e for search terms if One S returns to much crap

I saw a similar video but it wasnt that clear, It looked like them 3 wires where soldered to the motherboard. Its reassuring knowing that it isnt.
Still, Replacing it looks tricky, But i guess your warranty is void cause of the water damage so looks like you could replace the battery
However, finding one is hard, i searched everywhere and all i can find it the external batteries...... perhaps you could invest in one of these for the time being ?
Dont you have any mobile insurance or contents insurance ? you could claim for repairs / replacement on that !

Battery drain after water damage and repair

So my nexus 5 took an unfortunate trip into the ocean with me a month back. It was fairly dead. I couldn't get it do much of anything, even after complete disassemble, a flush with distilled water, then alcohol, and an extended multi day drying time that started with 4 hours in direct sun, then 44 hours in a rice bag.
I was messing around with it the other day, and got it booting, but the touch screen was dead. I was able to use if fully with the help of an OTG cable, usb hub, keyboard and mouse. I decided since everything worked great, I would order a new screen and a new battery(since the battery was draining very fast).
So i ordered a completely front panel assembly, including bezel, touch screen and LCD and I ordered an OEM battery. I installed the parts carefully once they arrived, everything was working fantastic! Well..... almost. The battery drain was still there. I would loose 4%-8% in airplane mode, and had 0 wakelocks. So i disassembled again, cleaned all the boards again in warmed distilled water and a tooth brush, then flushed with alcohol, and put in rice for about 48 hours. I reassembled, did a complete format from fastboot and reloaded everything from a google factory image. The battery still drained 4%-8% per hour, even in airplane mode. I disassembled again, and disconnected everything besides the battery, the charge board and the LCD cable. Performed a factory reset, booted up and didn't log into anything or touch anything. Put the phone in airplane mode again, still draining 4-8% per hour, with NO screen on time and no wake locks.
I figure 4 things could be going on.
1.) Main board is fried
2.) Charge board is fried.
3.) The original OEM battery was draining fast because the LCD was water damaged, and this "OEM" battery is a really bad fake with extremely small capacity?
4.) This LCD is somehow causing a battery drain even with screen off because if a cheap fake?
Having said that, the LCD looks and works great, and the battery looks great, just like an OEM battery.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Better off replacing water damaged phones

He's right this time. Could be almost anything, especially after exposure to salt water.

Not yet, I am worried about that 900mhz band support and can't find a clear answer. It looks like it does work on 900mhz UMTS, but that its just not advertised in Brazil. I want to be sure though, its an expensive phone.

Wanted to add, i narrowed the nexus 5 issue down to a mainboard issue. I setup airdroid on the phone, powered off, disconnected there screen and charge cable, powered back on and accessed the phone via airdroid.
Still drained just as fast, so the issue must be mainboard or battery. And since it did it with the old battery, i assume its the main board. I would love to find one for cheap, but they seem scarce.
If anyone has a D820 main board, or knows where I can find one, let me know. I would pay 80 bucks. Would pay 50 dollars for one with a dead ESN number so long as everything else worked.

Water damage? Serious battery problem

Hi,
On Tuesday night i spilled some water on my s6 during my sleep (ffs) and it was beeping and vibrating all night long. it wouldnt charge, wouldnt turn on without restarting etc. I then put it in rice for 48 hours and it seemed to work fine. unfortunately this morning my phones battery started acting up, jumping from 60% to 90% in a matter of minutes and other random jumps, especially when i restart it.
it now will not reach 100% when charging.
This could also be the result of me flashing a zip which promised to fix the deep sleep bug..
what should i do? ive tried factory reset and battery calibration etc.
on extrolite rom.

Try re-flashing your firmware via Odin, just to be sure that it's not a software issue.

I doubt that a small spill would cause this, check out YouTube on the s6 and waterproof testing (although I know this is extreme and not at all supported by Samsung and should not at all be attempted)
is there any vapor on your screen or camera ?
try another charger
I don't know if ADH is offered on your device in your country but where I live Samsung cover 2 incidents, either broken glass or water damage. Look into this before fiddling with the device.

Thats what i thought. There was vapour on the camera, but its now gone since i left it in rice.
im trying another charger now, good idea.
Being in the U.K it is not covered by ADH, but i do have geeksquad.
so far with the new charger it seems to be more consistant; could it be that the fast charger was putting to much voltage in? it seemed to charge to around 80% really quickly then would drain (whilst charging) back down to about 30%.
Now it is slowly climbing in the 70%s, much more normal.

Just restarted it and it dropped back down to 60%. think i will need to claim insurance

Vapor in the camera is a 100% indication that your device is compromised and your best action from here would be to stop wasting time and get it replaced via what ever insurance you have on the device.
I'm quite sad to hear that a simple spill on this phone caused a failure. expected a bit more splash proof despite it not being rated.

Yep its a shame because apart from this battery issue the device is completely faultless, even the speakers sound clear and as new.
Also will not connect to my pc as a usb device, so there's definitely something wrong.. Im disappointed
to be honest, i watched the videos on how waterproof it was and i have no idea how a tiny amount of water reached so far into the device.
Looks like i'll have to pay around £100 to fix it.

yep, it really wont charge above around 70% now,
i dont think insurance will even cover it because the damage is minor..

damage is damage. you find that the micro usb port got electrical damage

Repairing or Replacing my Pixel

So I have the Pixel 128 GB. Had it for two and a half years. The battery is crap. It was typically dying when the percentage got down to the 30s. Now once it gets below 50 percent, all bets are off. At first I thought it was a calibration issue. So I rooted it, in hope I could calibrate using apps. Then I learned that the calibration apps don't really do anything. So I installed AccuBattery, which estimates my battery is only working at 40 percent efficiency. Time for a new battery.
But that's not all. The phone speaker doesn't always work. Restarting would bring it back, for a little while. The headphone connection would drop out. Restarting would help, for a little while. Would also freeze randomly, especially when charging. So I wiped the phone completely, and the freezes, speaker, and headphone problems went away. For a few weeks. Now they are back. Calls are a crapshoot. Restarting helps. My audio or video files won't play. Restarting helps. My phone won't recognize when headphones are plugged in. Restarting WON'T help. And still the random freezes, especially when charging.
My belief is that a defective battery is the main culprit, and replacing the battery will fix all those problems. As it's extremely easy to crack the LCD screen when removing the cover, I'd rather pay to have the battery replaced. Found a place nearby that is a Google certified repair shop. $80 to replace the battery. Even if they crack the screen, they'll replace it at no cost. So I've thought this is the way to go.
But my wife is worried the problem is more than the battery, and replacing the battery will give me a messed up phone with a new battery. We have the Total Mobile Protection, and I wonder if it would be better to just pay the replacement deductible of $149.
Any suggestions? Anyone have a phone replaced through Asurion (Verizon's insurance provider)? What was the experience like? What quality was the replacement phone? Would it be the exact same model?

I don't know if you are on pie or what, but after flashing pie I had extreme battery issues. Off-mode charging refuses to charge past 66%, and upon boot it goes crazy from 33%-~70%. After flashing back to oreo, all my battery problems disappeared. Even flashing nougat fixed my microphone issues as well. Sometimes I wonder if it's just a coincidence that the latest firmware on this aging device causes so many issues. Almost as if google wants us to buy the newest device to fix artificial issues.
