Ok, I was stupid. I jumped in the pool with my HTC One S. After 24 hours of letting it dry everything works perfectly EXCEPT Two items. (It has been over a week since the incident)
1. The microphone NO LONGER works. I can use the speaker phone to talk, but now I can't use the phone as regular phone. Is there anyway to fix this? Replace it? For now I am just going to use a bluetooth headset.
2. The battery drains CRAZY fast compared to before. Could the water have damaged the battery, or did it damage something else that is causing the battery to drain. Is there a replacement battery yet available?
Otherwise, the phone works as new.
Thanks!
Are you sure the microphone itself is damaged? I once had a few drops of water go into my HTC Legend, and the earpiece/mic stopped working, BUT it was because the phone thought there was a headset plugged in, not because the earpiece/mic themselves were damaged. The problem resolved itself eventually.
Try powering off the device and sealing it in a ziplock bag with some uncooked rice for a while, that should hopefully soak out any moisture.
Dunno about the battery drain though, but would be useful to get an app like BetterBatteryStats to see if there is anything that is obviously draining the battery software wise.
Its possible to replace the microphone, I just seen a site that will do it, Maybe you could repair it yourself if you feel upto the job..
However i cannot see any sites for replacement battery, Its not like a normal battery, Well it kinda is only it doesnt have the gold connectors, It has wires that are soldered directly to the motherboard.. I saw this on a youtube video..
If you are good with this sorta stuff, try to fix it yourself on the cheap..
I would say the battery drain is due to water damage, Maybe damaged connections between battery and phone... But you cannot guarantee this
Check this video at 3:40 the battery actually has a connector, http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?deskto...=&feature=player_embedded&v=b0jGY2N2h1U&gl=SE
Batteries should pop up on ebay soon I'd guess, didn't find any now though. Use Ville and Z520e for search terms if One S returns to much crap
So it does, !!
I saw a similar video but it wasnt that clear, It looked like them 3 wires where soldered to the motherboard. Its reassuring knowing that it isnt.
Still, Replacing it looks tricky, But i guess your warranty is void cause of the water damage so looks like you could replace the battery
However, finding one is hard, i searched everywhere and all i can find it the external batteries...... perhaps you could invest in one of these for the time being ?
Dont you have any mobile insurance or contents insurance ? you could claim for repairs / replacement on that !

I accidentally dropped the battery of my optimus one in water when I was forced to take the battery out in order to restart the phone. Now whenever I plug in the charger, it won't charge at all, and battery indicator pro says that the battery's status is 'overheat'.
Has anyone bought a replacement battery from ebay, or know a place where I can get one? I was originally gonna try to claim warranty but it appears that there is a a white sticker of some sort on the battery which can detect if it has come in contact with water. At the bottom of the battery, where the connectors are, can you guys see if you have a small white rectangular sticker or paper? Mine is coloured red and I do not remember if it was like that originally XD

Thanks I'll look into that.
Can someone please check if they have a water detection sticker on their battery? Or if they have had a similar problem previously and tried to claim warranty?
yes there is and mine is white
ah damn, I wonder if I can try to claim it off warranty... although I've read stuff on other forums where they refused to service it or made the user pay for the fixes due to them having a red sticker.
wait a couple of days ..the battery should have nothing unwrappit of that "lg" sticker and leave it on your 1. radiator
2. stove
3. calorifier
pick your choice
...seriously my cusin dropped his nokia 6303 in the lake and it got it out and leave it a couple of days ...and it worked...i dont think the battery cells were damaged ...how long it was in the water?
It was less than 5 seconds... but the entire battery was fully submerged and enough for the white sticker to turn pink. I bought the phone on the 1st of feb, so if the entire lg sticker is gone after 2 weeks, wouldn't they think its rather suspicious? lol
I looked up the model of the battery, LGIP-400N and bought 2 on ebay. I know they won't be as good as the original but at least it'll charge... even if I have to charge it every night ><;;
but please follow my advice ok? remove the cover sticker let it be "basic" then put it to dry and wait a day ..and try again...see the contacts if they are ok and so on
try this too . Rice helps adsorb the water. so put it in rice for 2 days and see what happens
and try the thingy with the minerals..it dose make sense http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-zDlzfAFWI
i'm charging mine every night because of heavy use )

haha, I tried the rice trick but probably didn't do it for long enough... I'll just hold out on the current charge until I get the new batteries, don't think I wanna put my battery on radiator or stove etc... XD
well try the things i wrote
Heat damages Li-Ion batteries, so placing it on something hot or even warm is not recommended. What you may try is to blow warm air over it with a hair drier. Unpacking it might help, but then it may not fit perfectly inside the phone, start moving around and disconnect. Either way, the battery's warranty is void now that the sticker is red (indeed that's what it does, marks a battery that made contact with liquids or moisture) so you may try anything before discarding it. Yet, getting the water out could, in theory, make it work again just like before.
could there be any damages to the phone by using a battery in such a condition? I need something to hold out till my new batteries get here... and I dont want to damage the phone before they do ><;
What is the price of 18000 battery ... my kid plays a lot with phone. He is still playing with it.
He dropped it so many times and the screen is bit damaged. I went to service cneter and asked for the replacement. They said it will cost me around 1670 INR.
Battery might not be that expensive I think ...
Let me know the price you paid for the new battery.
I've ordered them from ebay here. I'll post the quality/usage when I get it and perform tests.
1800mAh: Personally, I find that the price isn't justifiable considering the difference from stock is only 300mah, there are also a few comments about mugen batteries from this thread.
I think you can purchase the original from LG's parts department, it'll obviously be more costly than the generic batteries you find on eBay.
Sent from my VM670 using XDA App
I tried looking for them on the lg website but I couldn't find anything about them online. Any chance you can link me to the page that has them? I wouldn't mind paying more to get a genuine battery since I'm pretty sure a generic battery voids the warranty.
One should never play with Li-Ion or LiPo batteries they explode most of the time. I have a rc helicopter which has both in it one for radio and one for the motor and esc. It exploded when i try to puncture and release some gases inside one of the bloated battery.

Can you give us a feedback? Thank you!
My gf washed my phone. It had like 7% or less when it went into wash. Full cycle.
I took battery out, put in rice for like 2 days, then I put it in warm place, on dash of car in sun for 20 minutes at a time in between delivering pizzas, ect....
I throw away the battery, and I use one of my back-up HD2 batteries. I use the external charger to charge it.
I boot it up, and it works! Touch screen, buttons, internet, speaker, camera! EVERYTHING. The screen after 2 days even looks perfect. No discoloration.
One issue.....
Battery drain. It loses like 1-2% battery per minute, even in airplane mode and screen is off. It won't last more than 40 minutes with moderate to low usage.
I plugged it into USB via my pc when it was at 15%. An hour passes, and now it's 3%. I confirm that it is plugged in, and the "charging" animation happens.
It's not the battery, because it's brand new.
What is the issue? Is it a short? Can I fix this? The phone is 100% working condition except for the horrible battery life.
I appreciate anyone's insight into this issue....
I had a similar issue on an older HTC Elf way back in the WM6.1 days(... lol 'way back').
I hope you have insurance and a friend who can sell it that it's not your fault to get you a new phone for free cause this is probably damaged some component inside the phone. Fixing it your self is pretty much impossible since it's not encouraged at all (there is very little support resources) and the manufacturer isn't just going to sell you parts to fix your phone.
If you don't have insurance I wish you the best of luck anyways.
(However I hope I'm wrong about all this, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. :\ )

Yeah....no insurance unfortunately...
I know the phone is going for $295 shipped NEW on ebay at the moment, but still...
I don't know if I want a new HD2 or if I should just wait a month or two until the Samsung Hercules comes out.....
You are lucky that your phone is working....it seems there is some short on the board...which is difficult to repair as most of these have 7 layers PCBs....sell it off and get a new one..
nice that it still works.. sounds like a short though if your battery is getting drained.. tough stuff is even if you dry it completely the water leaves residue on the circuitry. even if you get rid of the battery draining, the circuitry is more vulnerable to further damaging all on its own
So my nexus 5 took an unfortunate trip into the ocean with me a month back. It was fairly dead. I couldn't get it do much of anything, even after complete disassemble, a flush with distilled water, then alcohol, and an extended multi day drying time that started with 4 hours in direct sun, then 44 hours in a rice bag.
I was messing around with it the other day, and got it booting, but the touch screen was dead. I was able to use if fully with the help of an OTG cable, usb hub, keyboard and mouse. I decided since everything worked great, I would order a new screen and a new battery(since the battery was draining very fast).
So i ordered a completely front panel assembly, including bezel, touch screen and LCD and I ordered an OEM battery. I installed the parts carefully once they arrived, everything was working fantastic! Well..... almost. The battery drain was still there. I would loose 4%-8% in airplane mode, and had 0 wakelocks. So i disassembled again, cleaned all the boards again in warmed distilled water and a tooth brush, then flushed with alcohol, and put in rice for about 48 hours. I reassembled, did a complete format from fastboot and reloaded everything from a google factory image. The battery still drained 4%-8% per hour, even in airplane mode. I disassembled again, and disconnected everything besides the battery, the charge board and the LCD cable. Performed a factory reset, booted up and didn't log into anything or touch anything. Put the phone in airplane mode again, still draining 4-8% per hour, with NO screen on time and no wake locks.
I figure 4 things could be going on.
1.) Main board is fried
2.) Charge board is fried.
3.) The original OEM battery was draining fast because the LCD was water damaged, and this "OEM" battery is a really bad fake with extremely small capacity?
4.) This LCD is somehow causing a battery drain even with screen off because if a cheap fake?
Having said that, the LCD looks and works great, and the battery looks great, just like an OEM battery.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Better off replacing water damaged phones
He's right this time. Could be almost anything, especially after exposure to salt water.

I take it you saw my thread over at:

Not yet, I am worried about that 900mhz band support and can't find a clear answer. It looks like it does work on 900mhz UMTS, but that its just not advertised in Brazil. I want to be sure though, its an expensive phone.
Wanted to add, i narrowed the nexus 5 issue down to a mainboard issue. I setup airdroid on the phone, powered off, disconnected there screen and charge cable, powered back on and accessed the phone via airdroid.
Still drained just as fast, so the issue must be mainboard or battery. And since it did it with the old battery, i assume its the main board. I would love to find one for cheap, but they seem scarce.
If anyone has a D820 main board, or knows where I can find one, let me know. I would pay 80 bucks. Would pay 50 dollars for one with a dead ESN number so long as everything else worked.
Hi,
On Tuesday night i spilled some water on my s6 during my sleep (ffs) and it was beeping and vibrating all night long. it wouldnt charge, wouldnt turn on without restarting etc. I then put it in rice for 48 hours and it seemed to work fine. unfortunately this morning my phones battery started acting up, jumping from 60% to 90% in a matter of minutes and other random jumps, especially when i restart it.
it now will not reach 100% when charging.
This could also be the result of me flashing a zip which promised to fix the deep sleep bug..
what should i do? ive tried factory reset and battery calibration etc.
on extrolite rom.
thanks.
think my battery is just completely f****d now, doesnt even last 30mins from 50%
Try re-flashing your firmware via Odin, just to be sure that it's not a software issue.
I doubt that a small spill would cause this, check out YouTube on the s6 and waterproof testing (although I know this is extreme and not at all supported by Samsung and should not at all be attempted)
is there any vapor on your screen or camera ?
try another charger
I don't know if ADH is offered on your device in your country but where I live Samsung cover 2 incidents, either broken glass or water damage. Look into this before fiddling with the device.

Thats what i thought. There was vapour on the camera, but its now gone since i left it in rice.
im trying another charger now, good idea.
Being in the U.K it is not covered by ADH, but i do have geeksquad.
so far with the new charger it seems to be more consistant; could it be that the fast charger was putting to much voltage in? it seemed to charge to around 80% really quickly then would drain (whilst charging) back down to about 30%.
Now it is slowly climbing in the 70%s, much more normal.

Vapor in the camera is a 100% indication that your device is compromised and your best action from here would be to stop wasting time and get it replaced via what ever insurance you have on the device.
I'm quite sad to hear that a simple spill on this phone caused a failure. expected a bit more splash proof despite it not being rated.

Yep its a shame because apart from this battery issue the device is completely faultless, even the speakers sound clear and as new.
Also will not connect to my pc as a usb device, so there's definitely something wrong.. Im disappointed
to be honest, i watched the videos on how waterproof it was and i have no idea how a tiny amount of water reached so far into the device.
Looks like i'll have to pay around £100 to fix it.
Thanks

damage is damage. you find that the micro usb port got electrical damage
Original battery.
Stock 5.01 (still) rooted.
The battery is fully charged.
LG logo, AT&T logo (and sound) then reboot. Repeat.
Just under a year ago, I bought 2 new batteries with external charger (Power Bear) because I felt the original battery was not lasting as long as it had previously. The new batteries seemed to deliver about the same time as the original so since then I've been rotating the three- charging using the external charger exclusively.
Around six months ago, I noticed that when the battery would reached to about 6,7 or 8%, I would be at risk for a "spontaneous" reboot, then a boot loop as described above. (this can occur w/the new batts too)
I quickly determined it was time to swap the battery and that's it.
In the past two months, THAT behavior has began to sometimes manifest itself with between 15-19% battery life. I thought, 'OK. Move on, the battery gauge is probably not accurately reflecting what's really left in the battery any longer.'
NOW, the original battery, though fully charged, is causing the circular reboot upon being inserted.
Can a battery "go bad" in this type of manner? Without really exhibiting significant "performance loss" (read: usage time)?
I'm thinking the orig battery can no longer deliver the proper current, or something like that.
To be clear, the other two batts work fine.
Anyone ever heard anything like this?
*edit:
An interesting piece of info: If I leave the phone plugged in to the charger, it DOES boot up fine and stay up. The second I PULL OUT THE PLUG, it reboots, and so on....
Yes it’s very very common. And is usually a battery issue. When it comes to the G3 anyway
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Did you ever figure it out? If it's not a battery issue maybe it's an LG motherboard issue, like everyone else who's had their G3 close to 4 years. In that case, do what I do, stick the LG G3 motherboard ONLY into the OVEN and BAKE it for 10 mins @ 360 degrees. Believe it or not, baking solves many of the problems, not charging, boot-loop, not turn on, blue screen, freeze ups, etc. I have 2 LG G3's, 1 AT&T and 1 TMobile, that I do this with. I can go weeks without having to bake them again but then sometimes when I'm driving and need my phone the most, it dies, won't even turn on. So it's not a permanent cure because it'll happen again, no doubt, the question is, how long...I laughed when someone said oh, just bake the motherboard. Well, come to find out the type of solder they used on the motherboard melts at a lower temperature so when it gets too hot some chips lose their connections, thus by baking it I guess it reseats the chips. Hey, it works every time after I bake it so I can't knock it.
Either way, give it a shot, it can't hurt your motherboard and if it fixes the problem, at least you'll know how to fix it and think about getting a new phone, like myself, lol. Instructions are quite simple.
1...Take back off
2...Battery out, Sim out, SD out
3...small philips head, remove 12 screws from back, the screw next to camera does not have to be removed.
4...remove both rear-housing assemblies
5...Remove motherboard by disconnecting the rear camera connector, front camera connector, lcd screen connector, and the touchscreen connector.
6...Now remove the motherboard, hold back the connectors when lifting the motherboard out. Do not bend or break the connectors.
7...Take the motherboard, piece of tinfoil or parchment paper (i prefer tinfoil), lay the tinfoil on a baking sheet/cookie sheet, and then place the motherboard on the tinfoil with
the CPU facing up. Pre-heat the oven to 360 degrees, when it beeps, put it in for 10mins. After 10 mins, pull it out, turn your oven off, let motherboard sit for 15 mins and put the phone back together. Be careful snapping the connectors back into their places.
8...Be surprised when your phone still actually works after doing something like that to it.
I actually just baked mine again last night.
Good luck.
