Hi, I'm developing a music quiz for Android and before I launch it in the Android Market I would like to release a public beta for testers and hear some feedback and suggestions from you.
The concept of the game is simple and nothing new. A song plays for 20 seconds and the user has to answer which band or song is playing.

The main difference from the apps that are available in Android Market is that UMQ does not use the music that you have in SD. Instead you can choose to play music from a last.fm username, a artist you love or from one tag available in last.fm. This makes the possibilities of playing UMQ almost infinitive.
The High Scores are powered by ScoreLoop and is Ad supported. The score is the time left.
Known Issues:
- In time when passing from 01 to 00 it takes 2 seconds
- It's only optimized for HVGA (320x480)
- Sometimes appears songs that are not related with the tag, or artist
- If the name as a & sometimes don't appear the text after the &
- Some state buttons images are missing
- In artist game mode sometimes it gets stuck, you have to go back several times to give force close or kill the app
- Some songs appear repeatedly in one game
- The Options button does not work
Each game of UMQ generates about 20MB of data, so it recommended that you use a Wi-fi connection.
All feedback are welcome and appreciated.
Donwload v0.2.3
Hope you like UMQ
Options button doesn't work
Hi!
On my desire hd, the options button doesn't work, when i listen to a song, press the back button, select a new artist, the whole program freezes, and the two songs play on top of each other. Also, when i have played the game for some time, the whole program just hangs and i get a force close message.
Anyway, Greate game!
hi,
i would be happy to test your game i own a htc desire Z.
Ill keep an eye on this thread. If you happen optimize for other resoulutions ill give it a shot.
thoughts
just played one quick game of it (got 13th place on the leaderboard)
fun game. would have liked a little more space between the band names. it ran well though and is a cool concept. especially once i get some more music on my phone i'm going to give it another go.
on a t-mobile g2.

Didnt want to type the whole link into my phone so i tinyurled it to dl it

Hi, I just downloaded your game on my nexus s and after answering a few questions the game crashes and I have to restart it.
Hope this helps!
When I first loaded up the game I chose play, then chose last.fm username and it foreclosed on me. restarted, just picked artist this time, chose snoop dogg, game worked fine but out of the 20 songs it played 2 of them twice and 1 of the three times. And 3 or 4 questions had two of the same answers. Other than that I love the game! great idea!
Edit-Plus I dont know if you have control over this or not, but try to choose a part of the song which doesn't involve the title, if possible.
beta
i will be happy to beta test this app.
original driod with froyo.
thanks

I'll be glad to test this out. I'll leave a reply later on

Fun! Nice work. I fired it up on my Vibrant and had a couple force closes, but it seems to be running now. I used the username function and artist. Both seemed to work well so far.
Hi, running a gingerbread rom on a Desire and working ok. Flaws seen so far, same potential answer given twice (ie not 3 distinct possibilities) and same song being repeated.Great concept and app though!
Works great on Droid X
will download/try/review tomorrow when i get the chance/time too! sounds good tho!
update: downloaded it and tried it...
1)options buttton DOESNT work at all
2)since I dont really use fm radio or tags or listen to music on my phone I cant seem to start the game...
which is kind of an issue
rooted g2 running stock rom
On my rooted Droid X I noticed that the options button does not funtion as well as exiting the program while in the game does keep the songs playing (kind of annoying). I don't use last fm so I didn't test that part. Also it seems like you'd want to filter out if two options come up that are the same song name. Other than that it works well.
I will test in my Galaxy S
absolutely love the app, a bit of feedback, some sort of notification or feedback for the user between songs to show the app is downloading the next song would b grrat, many times I thought the app crashed. other then that, very nice work, great idea. can't wait for more updates

Have spent a bit more time working on Live Wallpapers, and the newest one pulls your album art and shows it on the home screen, a bit like the screensaver OS X comes with.
Features:
* Accesses your Android album art library (if you see it in Music Player, you see it here...)
* Shuffle feature
* Compatible with LauncherPro
* Very fast (approx 0.5 seconds on first load)
* Smooth scrolling between screens
* Periodically changes individual covers
* Opaque setting to make pale text easier to read.
Update:
Thanks to the team of beta testers who did a great job helping me identify bugs and implement a few new features. The Album Art Live Wallpaper is now released to the Market for 99p, and a demo is also available for free.

Album Art Live Wallpaper (Demo)
Free copies:
If you encounter a serious problem in the demo (for example, it won't load on your phone) and you work with me to fix it by sending a log entry etc, you get to keep a free copy. ;-)
Update v1.1 (16/07/10):
Just uploaded version 1.1 to the Market. Amongst other fixes this addresses an issue where incomplete album art collections resulted in a large number of grey Android tiles (missing artwork) showing on the home screen. The app will now make 10 attempts to find a replacement tile before giving up and moving on.
Update v1.2 (19/07/10):
Various bug fixes; possible solution for Droid users ("Use internal storage" option), greyscale rendering.
Download the demo below or on the Android Market. It's only 99p and took a huge amount of time and effort to get to this point, so if you like it, please buy it!
It looks snazzy enough, I wouldn't mind being a beta tester.
I would really like to try this out. I put a lot of music on my phone to listen to frequently.
wouldn't mind being a beta tester for you if you need anymore.
I would love to help test as well.
I'm in to be a beta tester for this awesome project.
an option to specify a folder from gallery will be awesome too.

only two testers? Let me be no. 3.
errh... waited to long, now I am not no. 3 anymore.
Anyway...
Are you guys just posting here, or pm'ing him? He did specify a pm to let him know. Just checking. Also, let him know about your phone, what kind it is(most likely N1 if you're reading this thread), what rom you're running(which I forgot to do, it's Cyanogen 5.0.8), and what kind of home you have, I'm sure he'd want to see a wide mix of home replacements to see if any of them have any issues.
+1 on picking the folder to display.

Hi everyone,
I've been working on a multiplayer game for a little while now and it's about to the point where I need to get some more people using it. It's called Navy Wars and it's a turn based game where you try to take out your opponents fleet.
Here are a few screen shots:

The game is a work in progress, so there will be bugs and there will be changes. It was developed on a Nexus S, a Nexus One and a Nook Color. It hasn't had much exposure on other devices yet, so this should be a good test. If you run into any crashes, please email as much detail as you can to [email protected] and also use the built in crash reporter being as detailed as you can be when submitting a report.
I think the game is pretty straight forward to play. If you register, post your username here so others can challenge you.
A few notes:
Just a heads up before you install the game, take note that it does use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data as well it can also send anonymous error reports to the server if an unexpected error occurs.
Also, this being a beta, there will be a reset of stats before the game goes public.
The final version will have a few undecided limitations with the option of purchasing the full game.
The beta version requires permissions to access your logs in the case of a crash!

any issues yet?
This looks like Battleship. I'll try it out!
Mentioned some things in game chat, but another would be possibly some kind of fix so you can spin a ship if it's on the edge of the board.
My name is Boots in the game if anyone is looking for a match. I'll try and play as many games as I can

You can drag it to "open water" and rotate it
It is kind of funny that BootsSiR tried really hard not to mention that it's Battleship (well sort of).
You don't have to worry really, the game has never been properly patented (Hasbro own the board-game though).
Just Don't call it Battle Ships (Easy enough). Cool thing it's the same turn based style like words with friends and Wordfeud,
you are definitely onto something here, wish I could test and try it on my tablet (Honeycomb) but the link seems to be down .
EDIT: tried link via my 3G and it worked.
EDIT 2: Can't create Account. It doesn't matter what username I want to use, It's never available and won't let me
continue creating an account

The app now sends a brief logcat capture when you submit a crash report. This code will be gone in the final version but it'll help me troubleshoot problems.

Thanks for the testing. Getting lots of good bug reports
I gave this a try last night and played a game with Wayne.
Really liked the game and love the idea, I did however find some issues as I was playing.
One suggestion I would like to add is the ability to play against a computer if you are pressed for time or some place where you don't have good Wifi/Data coverage. I also noticed there is no way to disable to sounds, I generally like to do that on most games I play. I did figure out I could turn down the media volume but then need to remember to turn it back up later for anything that needs it.
I was playing this on my rooted HTC Legend running CM7. First thing I noticed was that when I was adding a friend to attack. The box for the name and buttons were being cut off, see screenshot attached.
The other thing I noticed was that it didn't show me the 'Enemy Accuracy' / 'Fleet Strength' / 'Accuracy' / 'Hits' levels for some reason.
Other than that it was really good and I enjoyed it. Going to try playing some more to identify issues.

There is an options screen in the works to control volume/notifications. I'll have to look into why the buttons are cut off on that screen like that. Single player will also come in a future version! I appreciate the feedback!

1.00-R198 just published. There is now a preferences screen under menu on the player home screen. You can toggle sound and/or notifications.
I have a question that is more technical. How did you decide to implement the multiplayer? I am researching the best way to implement turn based multiplayer for my game and any help would be appreciated
Here are the latest screenshots from the game War of The Words!
One of the top ten in the Best Word Games of 2011 category at BestAppEver.com.
This word game contains hundreds of levels with increasing difficulty. As the game progress you are
constantly notified of how many points you need to beat the next player in the highscore list!
The idea is very simple, remember each word in the correct order and after they've been shuffled your
mission is to restore them in the correct order. You also need enough concentration to swat flies, ufo's and birds as
they will reward you with plenty of bonus points!

Cool, thanks Nice work with the new look.

I'm thinking of perhaps getting rid of the Facebook integration, anyone have any objections against that?
I think it's a nice addition, but it appears as most users simply doesn't use it.
I've also noticed that quite a few players have cleared more than 20 levels, while
some stops at level one with zero in score, I'm just wondering if the initial Facebook popup is to blame for that?
There's not too many players who have stopped playing before level 10, which should indicate that the game is at least somewhat addictive, or is it really?
Perhaps it was not a smart move to have the Facebook checkbox checked by default?
Just thinking out loud, if anyone cares to share their thoughts on this, please do
Version 1.6 is out
- You can now setup a profile before playing.
- The top panel continuously displays your progress, and how much you need to score to beat the person above you!
- As before you can still press pause to view your stats and exakt position in the score list.
Enjoy!

Version 1.7
It came to my attention that the game crashed on resuming after the game had been
interrupted by a call or similar. FYI. I just released a quick fix for this.
Version 1.75 is out!
I hope you enjoy it.
I just released 1.76.
Been hunting for memory leaks and optimized the whole game!
I am kind of desperate for input as I've heard that in some rare cases the game fc's at startup!
If you try it, please let me know your phone model and wether you get a force close or not at startup or anywhere else..
Thank you very much!
greaaaaaat go on
Thanks for trying!
Checking the database I saw that the number of people quiting the game before having any points (perhaps due to a fc or maybe out of boredom?) lessen. But still, 1 out of 4 shows as not getting any points or reaching even level 2 which is incredibly simple.
Right, I'll leave it at that and go work on my platform game instead.
No crashes for me. Had one forced close once when my battery was about to run out of juice.
Danke
I'm happy to report that the game got nominated in the top ten at bestappever.com in the Best Word Game of 2011.. Not that I've heard of that page before, but still
Anyway if anyone of you happens to have an Xperia Arc or ZTE-Blade in their possession and would like to verify that the game runs, I would appreciate it a lot! Really, alot since I've had reports of the dreadful "bitmap size exceeds VM budget" appearing on those devices!
(Also just released a new version with a few more levels available)
Thank you!
Released yet another fix!
Version 1.79 is out. The game should run fine on most devices now.
FYI! Using the emulator and adjusting the max heap size to only 16 Mb I could reproduce the problem with FC's. It turned out not to be a memory leak after all, my game actually did use up to much resources. doh!
Cheers
1.8 is out.
- Removed Facebook integration
- Removed unused resources
- Increased quality of background images
- Increased quality of some other graphics
- Made the game instructions clearer.
- Made sure buttons don't get outside the playable area
- Now all you have to do to get more levels is to click the
ad in the bottom and install the free game or app. Your
available levels will be refilled automatically.

hi
played this app with 4 friends at work and it's brilliant... have some feedback for you:
1 - table (asus transformer)
4 - players (htc desire, htc sensation, galaxy nexus, htc desire hd)
vibrate or sound on device when action is required. example, on device showing user's hand, whenever they are required to action, vibrate.
display text based on orientation. e.g. two players, text can appear upside down.
ability to see table on devices showing hands.
better display of what hand won...e.g. state on table, garpunkal won with high card... steve won with a full house (aces over kings).
Awesome app though, would be great to see continued development. Definitely useful for people travelling that don't have cards/chips, but have their phones on them.

If you don't see the App in the market, it might be because your device doesn't have OpenGL ES 2.0 (about 10% of all devices accessing the Android Market).

Awesome that you like it! We have to admit that this project was just for a university task, so we just published it in the market as-is and didn't really expect that it will be really played (only geeks have so many Android devices). So it's awesome to hear that it's really used
All of your suggestions sound reasonable, but the further development of the app really depends on how much feedback we get and we will consider your ideas when publishing the next update of the app
By the way, a sound is already played on the players device when it's his turn, but vibrating is certainly better. And yeah, the winning hand is dismissed a little bit too fast, so text based information would help to understand what's going on.
Which text should we display based on orientation? We display the players names in the right orientation and also his last action, but not the chips if I remember correctly.
Cool app, was just playing with my friends. ^^
It's taking quite a bit of space tough.
thanks for responding...
This app is very useful for a pocket poker travel game... easier than having a stack of cards and chips!
Would definitely like an update on this!!
After playing it again today I have some additional feedback:
- A console would be nice, where it all the action is shown, with for example, Player won with Straight to K.
- Vibration would be good instead of the sound, when it's my turn.
- Players could be better distributed around the table
since I downloaded your app I play poker=) thnx
[FREE][GAME][Brain & Puzzle][2.2+] Pick Lock FREE
Hi guys,
Here is my new brain game Pick Lock.
Google Play link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.co.uk.dotstudio.PickLockFREE
The goal of this game is to match the target pattern using two actions - translation and rotation. The levels are generated randomly, so the player will face different challenges every time the game is started. The player needs to think ahead like in a game of chess. There is always a 'Key' button available, which shows a possible solution. Please read the 'Rules'. If the players hit wrong button there is an 'Undo' button, which goes one move back, and 'Init' button that clears the board. The 'Key' button is available only when the board is clear. The game features an original background music composed by Yordan Velichkov. The game does not have any competitive goals, but offers a relaxing atmosphere for players that want to exercise their minds. The free version features 30 levels with solutions starting from 1 to 4 moves.

This app is looking great but isn't the logic behind the game too simple ?
hi man,
thanks for feedback. yes the logic is simple in terms of user input. the resulted combinations are hundreds of thousands and that feature pleases me - simple input with complex results.
New update (1.0.2) is available now. The rules are described better, as suggested.
guys, are the levels too easy or too difficult? i was thinking about unlocking the moderate difficulty button and present 30 more random levels with 5 moves solutions.
downloaded the game and played a bit. lots of fun!
Hi guys,
I just decided to unlock all levels of the game and released version 1.0.3. Now 90 levels that are generated randomly every time you start the game are available. I hope that will bring more fun and downloads.
Thanks for the encouragement!
Love this game
Hi @dotstudio,
First impression - I love this game.
It's pretty, and clever.
The 1st few levels look too easy, but then when I tried medium I was confused by the puzzle...
So I went back to the beginning, and started moving through the levels quicker.
After finding that the 1st concept is introduced really slowly, I'm enjoying the way new concepts are introduced after that.
Totally love this game. :cyclops:
Thanks for giving it to us
Thanks @Hotfingers,
I was thinking of a reward system, where the user will have 1 key at the begining which can be used once to reveal a solution of one level and then will disappear. A new key will be obtained if the user solves a level with the exact or less number of moves the solution requires. So one can obtain 90 keys for all levels + 1 key that is given initially for total of 91 keys max. Of course that means that I need to also keep score and introduce some competitive goals...
Btw, thanks XDAdevelopers for the review of my game!!!
The game sound like fun but unfortunatley it does not work on my OneX with CM10.
I get to the loading screen but the the app closes down.
Graphic is incredible! Great work!
@Geggan I hope i will have more experience in the future to solve that kind of issues. If you still want to try the game it has a web version http://www.dotstudio.co.uk/game/
The graphics is amazing!
Really a great game! I like it! If the game would remember the last level I played it would be perfect.

Hi alexx,
Also running CM10 and the app works OK. I think it depends on your handset.
The few CM10 versions I know are still "under development" - so maybe you can hold out a bit until yours gets a bit more stable..?
(I know CM10 is so fast compared to CM9 that no-one wants to go back after tasting 10)
Also you can try different kernels to see which ones make your phone more stable..?
Finally you can ask your CM10 team if they will test this app for you to see what's going wrong. If your CM10 is still under development this should not upset the team too much.
good luck

I still dont have the experience to give any advise on that issue. Since you are the second one that reports issues with CM10 I guess I have to put that in the app description.
[Awesome
cant wait to try it.
