I took my phone and to get a new screen at the sprint store and the tech swapped sd cards on me. the current rom I was running didn't have any sprint apps on it. and in that case want to sd cards on me I got a blank 1. the new sd card didn't have any backups on it of my sprint apps. I've tried loading a rom with sprint apps on it and doing a titanium backup but titanium backup only backup data not the apk. I have a back up with the sprint apps on it , but how do I get those apps on to other roms and backups?

You need to go back and get Your sd card from them. I don't even know why they would swap it out or even touch the card :shady:
+1 I agree man go back and get your SD card that is shady!!!! What if u had a bunch of pics of your family on that card? I'd be pissed!!!!!

Do a nandroid with Clockworkmod on a stock rom from here that does have the Sprint apk's, and than download the rom that you whant, let it load, after everyhting is done loading just go back into your nandroid that you did with CWM, go into restore, advance restore, thant just restore DATA, and this sould give all the Sprint Apk's.
I have root access, and deleted my Sprint Apps, Sprint ID, SprintWallet, Sprint Zone etc.. as I don't need them being outside the US and do not need Sprint.
(I know, I should have renamed them instead.. )
Can they be retrieved back (may be with Factory reset) if I am back with Sprint??
If not, Will Sprint be able to restore them if we I need to activate the phone again,??
Thanks
sprint shouldn't have touched your SD. That's probably criminal of them, honestly. That storage is yours, not theirs. That's 4th amendment **** right there. Don't puss out, that's YOUR ****. I've had my screen replaced several times (not to mention my camera lens and external speaker), ...several times (with a rooted rom), and no one ever touched MY STORAGE. Don't let someone **** with you like that. Seriously!

I just recently purchased rom manager premium and havent been backing up and restoring as often as I am now as I'm trying CM7 Nightlies almost daily. I havent had to restore until today as I didnt like the dl/ul speed I was getting with the latest cm7. The last backup I did as my latest ones has been when I updated cm7 and rom manager asked if I wanted to make a backup before installing the latest cm7 and I would choose yes. When I restored today I noticed it didnt remember all my settings, some apps were missing, I had to sign in to my google account again, and I had to restore some system settings/contacts/bookmarks etc etc..I almost doubted I had restored to my previous backup but the build.prop still had the changes I had made and my dl/ul speed was good.
I guess my question is, should I be making my backups directly with clockworkmod to avoid this. The reason I ask is when I've used clockworkmod to make backups and restore in the past it would put back the rom with all my apps/settings exactly the way I left without me having to set everything back up again. Not sure what I'm missing, or has something changed with backups using either of these tools? Maybe I'm just doing it wrong?
nandroid backups aren't always perfect. I've run into issues from backing up both ways. for instance one time I restored a backup and my statusbar was completely missing. It may be placebo effect but I personally have run into less issues backing up and restoring from cwm. just my .02 cents
Dude what gives!? I'm baffled - I swore I posted on this thread - twice!? I'm Losing It Guys...
What I thought I wrote was I had noticed that too and went to test it out. It got me curious. Well what I realized when I went to ROM manager to make a backup was that though we name it from there, all the magic happens in recovery. I am gonna go out on a limb and say that it wouldn't matter which you use, as they are the same. ROM Manager essentially boots into recovery. And I'm not positive but doesn't it restart into recovery? And rebooting into recovery powers you off, then into recovery - where you have to work over to it, but all in all - It's actually only recovery that creates the backup. The one difference is I notice every now and then Thru Rom manager my phone just reboots. So when I put it down and let it do its thing, I've learned to be sure the backup was created.
I came back to see.if there was any more insight into this.... And my posts were gone? Am I trippin????
Edit: yeah I checked the time of OP and I'm positive I did. Even came back and the second post I talked about the recovery doing all the work..... Wild ....

LMAO! Wolf - I just don't know. I mean I edited the first post even. It is that time though - and I found out were moving this weekend. So wifey has me a big ole to do list..... Crazy cooter busted me today. Smart pants got online herself, made an account - boom. This user is currently viewing .......
But baby, when I start my internet my home page is XDA! So if its not off, of course it shows me....
Edit: My phone has literally been buggin. wondering if its Rom related, or if I might need to unroot. And start over. Heard it helps. Ok - back to Rom manager
yeah dyliho is right either way u look at it recovery is backing it up. my train of thought it why not go straight to recovery and avoid the middleman (rom manager) and u would think there would be less problems. like I said could be pure coincedince but I have run into less issues just doing it from recovery

Yesterday I noticed the signs of screen burn in. Too many football games and poker games watched on mobile. I think the culprit is the video control bar in the jplayer app.
Now i need to unroot my device and visit the Verizon store.
1. where can I download the stock ROM for FP1 to replace eclipse ROM?
2. Can i flash stock ROM without loosing customer data?
3. I have titanium backup and would like to know what I need to backup so when i get a replacement device I dont have to spend forever reseting home screens and other settings. I'd like to duplicate the old palm days where i could plug in the device and sync it back To the way it iS Now.
4. Is screen burn in prevelant on smart phones and how do i prevent it from happening with a new device?

I remember someone else posting about screen burn recently. I believe they fixed it by displaying a pure white screen (via an image?) for a period of time.
Did some searching. Here's the thread about it.
Thanks for the advice. I'll see what i can do and post after lunch.

Screen burn is only prevalent on OLED screens...the price we pay for the picture quality. Even then, it's not extremely common. The white screen can work, but you can't "loosen" the pixels the way you could on old displays. OLED pixels literally just wear out over time and with use and the only thing you can do to alleviate burn in that has already happened is wear out the pixels around it so it isn't as obvious.
There isn't a stock restore available yet. I was going to try to dump it this weekend, but I never got time. If there was one available, I'd be wary of coming from a custom rom without wiping data...there are too many changes that could cause issues.
So then what's the best way to get back to stock so I can visit Verizon? I don't have to keep data...but won't be able to use titanium to restore. Right?

Well titanium backup and then either pull the sd or copy the contents to your pc. Odin ep4d and take the ota. IF YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE THE SD IN THEN FORMAT IT because CWM and some root apps leave stuff on there.

Ok. I'll flash EP4D and get the OTA upgrade. Then it's off to Verizon.
Hopefully they won't give me any trouble and a new phone.
Since the phone will be stock until I get to the store, is there any way to restore apps and settings without downloading and reentering info? I don't want the phone to look too stock. I want it to be gently used and worthy of a swap. are there any non root backup programs to help with this that would not tip them off to the fact that the phone had been rooted?

You worry too much, just download Go launcher Ex from the market and change your wall settings and drop a few icons on the home page. That's it.
Are you telling me to unroot and then add go launcher and customize it a bit to not make it ootb stock? that i can do. Thx.

Im getting a new phone. Should be here today.
Rather simple really:
Unroot phone
visit store
Store confirms defective device
Store sets up warranty swap from warehouse
Wait for phone to arrive
Root new phone and setup device
Wipe old phone & send back to vzw.
The worst part of the process was talking to the customer service rep on the phone setting up the swap and her telling me that it sounds like screen bleed and that i should file an insurance claim or will pay 199 for claiming damage as defective device. No way am i paying cuz i keep my phone fom getting damaged...
Over all: very easy

So long story short, GF went out last night and got drunk, tells me last night her phone is broken. Got home from work this morning, checked it out and theres a strange discoloration on the top right corner of the screen and the screen does not respond to touching it. The menu/home/back keys work along with the volume buttons and power button but I cant get past the swipe lock screen because the screen doesnt respond. I was however able to boot into CWM and backup to the ext SD card.
Anyway she filed a claim with Asurion, said she lost it, and theyre sending a new one Monday. Since she didnt actually lose the phone I still have her SD card, SIM and battery. Here are my Q's... Thanks in advance.
1. Any idea what version the replacement phone might ship with?
2. Since I havent rooted since the release day what the best method to use for the version they will send? I used route66 but im not sure if thats even around anymore.
3. I was able to make a back up on the SD card. Can I restore that back up on the new phone from the sd card after i root and unlock?
4. Do I have to back up the SD card contents and reformat the SD card to use in the new phone?
5. What, if anything, can be done the old SIM card?
Very lucky I have a place like XDA where I can ask questions like this. XDA has been so helpful to me the last few years. Thanks to everyone who can help. My gf and I really appreciate it.

1) VRALHE, easily rooted with the existing exploits.
2) See above.
3) Uh, honestly not sure about this. I'm interested to see others response.
4) Shouldn't have to since you'll be using the same rom
5) If the sim is fine, just pop it into the new phone.

Don't use the old phone parts except the sdcard for anything. You lost the phone so if you use the one SIM then they're going to know you committed fraud. Same if you try to use the old phone.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
As for restoring the backup. Yes you can simply restore the backup and it week be just fine. I did it on my RAZR when I got a max and when I got a replacement max.

Awesome guys thanks! Not going to use the old SIM at all, I figured not to. If I can restore the Rom from the SD card on the new phone my life will be so much better lol. Very much appreciated.
Just wanted to update. First off thanks to everyone, my gf is very thankful.
I can confirm restoring from the old phone on to the new one worked perfectly along with the root method. Thanks so much guys.

I recommend that you restore the apps only at first just to be safe. And then later while using the phone, if you have a situation where you needed your old data then go ahead and restore the app & data again.
OR go ahead and restore apps & data at first and then Clear Data on an individual basis if an app is misbehaving.
..Oh and make sure not to restore old system apps, that could be a big problem.
Dude, two threads with the same info in them? Your other thread has ask of the answers to your questions. People in these firms will give you a hard time for not searching for an answer before posting, but come on, you didn't even have to do that, LOL
Going from ics to jb seems to cause problems if you restore data. I agree with Crusymclovin(haha).

Hello all, while messing around trying to root some Chinise tablets I have been buying thu Aliexpress.com I came across this program callled MOBOROBO. It can be found at www.moborobo.com. It is a free program and I use it to manage all my android devices. I allows full management of almost any android device that I connect to my pc.
Just received my 32Gb S4. After finding out about the space issue and found out the 32GB was coming, I marched right in the ATT store and swapped. Had to pay the restocking fee but felt it was worth it. I have already rooted the phone and was thinking of disabling the bloatware while I wait for recovery ROM.
I just came home from work and connected my phone to the pc because while out today I decided to bite the bullet and took the OTA from ATT. Update went well, did not see any difference to nothing on phone except that it killed ROOT. I connected my phone and moborobo came up. I minimized it while I re-ROOT-ed my S4. I then went back to mess with moborobo to do a backup (I use it sometimes even though I have TiBU.) I then clicked on the apps tap at the top and noticed it listed all the apps on the phone. The was also a list of system apps. Went to the list and decided to uninstall some of the bloat. I figured maybe they won't be deleted, no prob if they don't I could then "disable".
To my surprise moborobo UNINSTALLED ALL the apps I threw at it. I was very cautious, I did not uninstall everything, only the ones I was sure of. Now I can always go back and do the others when I am sure I need to. Please check it out.
i just tried it and it works on att apps i just delete all this att crab.but this program doesn't know my phone name.

If your drivers are installed it will show your device name. While the program is running try disconnecting and reconnecting your phone. I have used it with my S4 (SGH-I337) my wife's S3 (SGH-I737) my older S2 (SGH-I777) and last night a friend came by with an S3 from t-mobile and when I connected it it came up (SGH-I339) I think. I don't have the most updated version of the program ( was not sure about keeping it) but mine starts up as soon as I connect my phone and sometimes it does not readily show my phone name.
Titanium Backup is my fave app to remove bloatware and back up all my apps and call history & text mssgs:

ROM Toolbox is another good one and offers a lot of other features as well:

Both require root, of course.

I just deleted the AT&T apps along with yahoo and that yp stuff. Since I just got the phone I wanted to check out everything and decide what I want to get rid of. I read somewhere in this forum, someone posted a long list of all the apps including the Samsung ones. However I am going to be cautious so nothing gets messed up before we have some good ROMS coming from the great xda-developers kitchens. Some of the apps are not easy to identify from their apk, example: ATT navigator, the apk says telenav....apk.

I am with you on those apps being good apps, I am not sure however if TiBU actually remove the apps or just freeze them. I have used it to freeze apps the I could not delete or wish to return to at a later time.
In all of this though, one thing has come to my mind. Even if we remove all the bloatware, we still do not have more space because all of this reside in the special partition that we do not have access to until it is re-partition or allowed access in a recovery ROM. With all the removal that I have done I did not see an increase of space available. Going back to moborobo I can see that my system file list have been greatly reduced but my available space have not increased. I have therefore concluded that removing bloatware will only console me to the fact that all that junk is not on my phone. The 6.5Gb used for system files and bloatware is a partition that was set aside. I could be wrong on this so if necessary please teach me.
Yep, with Titanium backup you can either freeze or permanently uninstall any app or system app.
My S4 is still in FedEx' hands so I haven't had a chance to see the file system yet.
Speaking of FedEx. I'm in Austin, Texas. FedEx picked up the phone from AT&T in Ft Worth Texas. Now the tracking shows it is in Memphis, TN for some reason.

Yeah, returned the 16g ver for the 32g yesterday rooted that sucker using my new and improved S4-Chopper, rom toolbox uninstalling apps & backing it up using titanium pro then started tweaking it... I would suggest making a list delete 4 apps then back-up del 4 mo then back-up. That way you can get this monster the way you want it... mine is pumping out Slightly over 13000 on quadrant so im happy!!
It goes to Memphis because that is FedEx's main hub. So all packages go though there first

Memphis is FedEx's Hub. Everything goes through there, even when it means going from Texas to Memphis and back to Texas. The Postal Service does similarly if I mail a letter to someone in town. It goes to the regional hub (30 miles West from home and back to home.
