How to REMOVE bloatware from your Galaxy S4 - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

Hello all, while messing around trying to root some Chinise tablets I have been buying thu Aliexpress.com I came across this program callled MOBOROBO. It can be found at www.moborobo.com. It is a free program and I use it to manage all my android devices. I allows full management of almost any android device that I connect to my pc.
Just received my 32Gb S4. After finding out about the space issue and found out the 32GB was coming, I marched right in the ATT store and swapped. Had to pay the restocking fee but felt it was worth it. I have already rooted the phone and was thinking of disabling the bloatware while I wait for recovery ROM.
I just came home from work and connected my phone to the pc because while out today I decided to bite the bullet and took the OTA from ATT. Update went well, did not see any difference to nothing on phone except that it killed ROOT. I connected my phone and moborobo came up. I minimized it while I re-ROOT-ed my S4. I then went back to mess with moborobo to do a backup (I use it sometimes even though I have TiBU.) I then clicked on the apps tap at the top and noticed it listed all the apps on the phone. The was also a list of system apps. Went to the list and decided to uninstall some of the bloat. I figured maybe they won't be deleted, no prob if they don't I could then "disable".
To my surprise moborobo UNINSTALLED ALL the apps I threw at it. I was very cautious, I did not uninstall everything, only the ones I was sure of. Now I can always go back and do the others when I am sure I need to. Please check it out.

i just tried it and it works on att apps i just delete all this att crab.but this program doesn't know my phone name.

If your drivers are installed it will show your device name. While the program is running try disconnecting and reconnecting your phone. I have used it with my S4 (SGH-I337) my wife's S3 (SGH-I737) my older S2 (SGH-I777) and last night a friend came by with an S3 from t-mobile and when I connected it it came up (SGH-I339) I think. I don't have the most updated version of the program ( was not sure about keeping it) but mine starts up as soon as I connect my phone and sometimes it does not readily show my phone name.

Titanium Backup is my fave app to remove bloatware and back up all my apps and call history & text mssgs:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...mNvbS5rZXJhbWlkYXMuVGl0YW5pdW1CYWNrdXBQcm8iXQ..
ROM Toolbox is another good one and offers a lot of other features as well:

Both require root, of course.

I just deleted the AT&T apps along with yahoo and that yp stuff. Since I just got the phone I wanted to check out everything and decide what I want to get rid of. I read somewhere in this forum, someone posted a long list of all the apps including the Samsung ones. However I am going to be cautious so nothing gets messed up before we have some good ROMS coming from the great xda-developers kitchens. Some of the apps are not easy to identify from their apk, example: ATT navigator, the apk says telenav....apk.

I am with you on those apps being good apps, I am not sure however if TiBU actually remove the apps or just freeze them. I have used it to freeze apps the I could not delete or wish to return to at a later time.
In all of this though, one thing has come to my mind. Even if we remove all the bloatware, we still do not have more space because all of this reside in the special partition that we do not have access to until it is re-partition or allowed access in a recovery ROM. With all the removal that I have done I did not see an increase of space available. Going back to moborobo I can see that my system file list have been greatly reduced but my available space have not increased. I have therefore concluded that removing bloatware will only console me to the fact that all that junk is not on my phone. The 6.5Gb used for system files and bloatware is a partition that was set aside. I could be wrong on this so if necessary please teach me.

Yep, with Titanium backup you can either freeze or permanently uninstall any app or system app.
My S4 is still in FedEx' hands so I haven't had a chance to see the file system yet.
Speaking of FedEx. I'm in Austin, Texas. FedEx picked up the phone from AT&T in Ft Worth Texas. Now the tracking shows it is in Memphis, TN for some reason.

Yeah, returned the 16g ver for the 32g yesterday rooted that sucker using my new and improved S4-Chopper, rom toolbox uninstalling apps & backing it up using titanium pro then started tweaking it... I would suggest making a list delete 4 apps then back-up del 4 mo then back-up. That way you can get this monster the way you want it... mine is pumping out Slightly over 13000 on quadrant so im happy!!

It goes to Memphis because that is FedEx's main hub. So all packages go though there first

I accidentally deleted a system app. It was yellow pages so it's not a big deal but I would like to have it backed up with my other system apps. If I factory reset it will I get it back, or do I need to find a apk for it? Or would I have to go to the extreme and flash the stock TouchWiz rom

Memphis is FedEx's Hub. Everything goes through there, even when it means going from Texas to Memphis and back to Texas. The Postal Service does similarly if I mail a letter to someone in town. It goes to the regional hub (30 miles West from home and back to home.

Flashing w/o the use of a PC

Is it possible with the Epic? My MicroUSB port is broken and I don't know how to flash the phone back to stock (removing root, restoring stock apps) and I've got limited time to do this before I can take the phone back to the Sprint store for replacement. I'm searching feverantly, but everything takes me to flashing using Odin, via USB to PC, etc. I just need to know if I can get a DG27 (that's what I'm still running) update.zip file put onto my SD card and let the phone flash itself via the stock recovery console. Can it be done?
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/and...-back-to-stock-without-usb/msg94685/#msg94685
Found this, but it's for the Moment and I'm running an Epic.
I have returned my phones to stock as well when dealing with warranty/insurance, but does it matter if you are having a hardware issue like that? Would they consider it a breach of contract or something?
Of course, if my phone sustained minimal damage and I needed to replace it, there's always totally breaking it...

Replacement
You should call your local rep and ask about the terms of exchange. I had a moment and exchanged for the epic and my rep said that software didn't matter. Basically, if it still looks new, they should take it. This is for the 30 day exchange. Are you getting it replaced or exchanging it?
I've tried to make "friends" with the people at the local Sprint stores for issues like this. Since I was about 2 weeks past my 30 exhange window, I got sent from the store that I purchased it from to another store that does more warranty work. Ends up the guy there is someone I had met before at a completely different store back when I had my Moment...nice guy, roots his phones, gave me tons of free paid apps, etc. In the end, apparently Sprint changed their warranty replacement program (again) and he was forced to charge me $35 I won't get the phone till midweek, but I'm justifying the costs in my head by talking with him since he's going to allow me to use some website he's payed onto to be able to download basically any paid app that I want when I return. That means no more Gameloft demos, backup apps, etc...now I get the best of the best.
For those wondering what happened to my phone, I did the Touchstone mod, and while it was working great for a while, apparently too much tension was on the + connection, so it broke right at the joint where the USB connector meets the board...no chance of me fixing that myself. Now my biggest problems are
1) That I'm still rooted, I did a factory wipe on the phone and completely forgot that I deleted a TON of stock apps, including the TW launcher. Once the phone finished it's own wiping, I now have no launcher, so unless someone calls/texts me, I have no phone usage.
2) Since the USB is broken, I don't have a way to charge the phone anymore...and these phones are battery hogs. I've replied on the Touchstone thread to see if I could still use the Touchstone and the battery cover, remove the battery from the phone and charge the battery directly. I know the inherent dangers of over charging, so my only goal is too keep enough of a random charge (maybe a few hours at a time) until the replacement phone arrives.
In the meantime though, I'd still like to see if there is a way to either flash the phone back to stock and/or get a launcher running on the phone again. I have NO launcher now, so hitting the home, menu, etc buttons does absolutely nothing.
Awesome this thread is now about warez

I don't use my PC when I flash my phone. I use the "ClockWork Mod" and its "ROM Manager" interface (from the market) and the XDA app from the market. Download the ROM's, kernels, and other tweaks through the xda app and flash them in clockwork mod.

I never installed the Clockwork Mod since it was still having issues with using QuickBoot and not going to recoverry like it was supposed to. I've been in no rush to custom ROM/Kernal this phone, so all I did was root it so I could delete a bunch of the stock apps.
I'm getting a replacement sent to me, should be here mid week. Once 2.2 comes, I'll be waiting for custom things then, but in the meantime, I'm far happier with this phone vs the Moment.
First thing you should -always- do is install clockwork.
The only reason why I didn't is because it doesn't work 100% with QuickBoot, but I guess in this situation I still could have manually gotten to recovery so I could have put a launcher back onto the phone and it wouldn't be a brick sitting on my desk right now. In an effort to preserve battery life, I only turn it on for about 5 minutes, a couple of times a day, to see what calls and texts I miss and then I return them all via my other phone.
My list of to-do's once I get my next phone:
Root (I just need to decide which version again, seems like there are a bunch and I don't know which is best/safest), not delete any apps until I know what I'm doing w/ this phone vs the Moment
Clockwork Revocery
Wifi tether
Launcher Pro
...and I'll probably leave it at that. It should come with DI18 already installed, but I don't want the phone giving me grief (like it did before trying to update since I'm still running DG27 but had a bunch of deleted stock apps) when the 2.2 update finally gets released. I can suffer with having 3 launchers and a bunch of useless Sprint apps for a while I guess

To put a rom on your sd card since you can't connect your phone to the computer you remove the micro sd card. Your phone should have came with an adapter. The only problem with that is I've already said more than once that I don't have CWM installed, I've only got the stock recovery. I explained in the post above when I never got around to installing CWM. My phone is only rooted and running one of Noobnl's kernals, deleted a bunch of stock apps (including TW, hence my problem) and nothing more.
If your still rooted, you can try downloading rom manager and using it to download and install clockwork.

Rom Manager preloaded?

I just purchased the inspire today, little over a hour ago, very familiar with the custom roms and android, just came from captivate. Mine came with rom manager installed, how does this make sense? its not even rooted. And if for some reason it is a returned phone can they resale it as new?
If you put in your Google account when the phone first boots up it automatically starts installing the apps you had installed previously (in this case, you must have had a phone with ROM Manager on it tied to your Google account at some point).
really? it never did that on captivate, and it was only that maps and soemthing else that was on there asking if i wanted to update them. like right away, i never seen anything like it was d/l something i had tons of stuff installed on my other phone.

That feature was always broken on Samsung ROMs. Did you ever install CM? The feature worked on CM so maybe that's where you had ROM Manager installed and it was backed up.
well i was back on stock been back on stock for awhile on samsung phone. and yea had rom manager installed on it, but had alot of other stuff from market. When I got this phone today right when i started messing with it something came up asking if i wanted to update 4 apps and rom manager was one of them. So made me think it came with it, and if it d/l the app for me shouldnt it have asked me? I mean some apps are pretty big. and if it did d/l it cause i had it on other phone where are all the other apps i had? btw it never did that with my droid x or vibrant either.

Sounds like it was a returned phone to me. Just for grins I had a friend at my old att store test one out, threw my sim in and loaded it up, set my account up to check email and non of my apps installed from the market, had a prompt to update gmail and I think one other but that was about it. Did you get it from a core ATT store or a local retailer?
I have had this on several different phones, though it never worked on my captivate. I believe if you select backup google data at some point and then again when setting up the new phone it triggers it. Not all apps will automatically download but many do.

[Q] missing apps after switching from Captivate to Skyrocket

I upgraded from the Captivate to the Skyrocket last week. I went to re-install my apps from the market, but it only showed about 3 of the free apps I had and all of 6 of the apps I paid for.
Any idea how I can get all of the apps I previously downloaded to show up in "my apps" as available for install? Or do I have to go through and re-install all of these 1 by 1?
Sometimes the market can be goofy like that.. you can wIt about 24 hours to see if they pop up. Or try and push menu settings applications manage applications... find market and clear the data then check. Or yes go find them one by one

The market will limit your access to apps that will run on the version of Android you're using if the developer has specified it in the market listing.

I had about 160 apps or so D) prior to the switch. I have so far manually restored about 80 that I use all the time.
The Skyrocket has 2.3.5 on it right now, and I'm fairly positive that all the apps previously on my cappy supported Gingerbread.
also, I did use Titantium backup to backup all apps on the cappy as well as nandroid it. But I can't transfer them over to this phone I don't think... maybe?
The market "Should" have shown me everything that I had previously downloaded/installed (except for the APKs that I sideloaded.). It's annoying, but oh well. maybe this will force me to weed out some unwanted apps...
And yeah, the speed/performance difference between the cappy is HUGE. Also, I'm getting close to 24 hrs of moderate use on the SR, which dominates the cappy's 10-12hrs I was getting.
I'm loving the new SR over my old Captivate too. And the battery life is amazingly so much better as is the GPS!
However, when I go to check for software update I get that there is no update and I'm still on 2.3.5 on ATT. Not sure why it thinks I'm on the current version with all the talk about 2.3.6 up here...

FP1 Stock ROM

Yesterday I noticed the signs of screen burn in. Too many football games and poker games watched on mobile. I think the culprit is the video control bar in the jplayer app.
Now i need to unroot my device and visit the Verizon store.
1. where can I download the stock ROM for FP1 to replace eclipse ROM?
2. Can i flash stock ROM without loosing customer data?
3. I have titanium backup and would like to know what I need to backup so when i get a replacement device I dont have to spend forever reseting home screens and other settings. I'd like to duplicate the old palm days where i could plug in the device and sync it back To the way it iS Now.
4. Is screen burn in prevelant on smart phones and how do i prevent it from happening with a new device?

Did some searching. Here's the thread about it.
Thanks for the advice. I'll see what i can do and post after lunch.

Screen burn is only prevalent on OLED screens...the price we pay for the picture quality. Even then, it's not extremely common. The white screen can work, but you can't "loosen" the pixels the way you could on old displays. OLED pixels literally just wear out over time and with use and the only thing you can do to alleviate burn in that has already happened is wear out the pixels around it so it isn't as obvious.
There isn't a stock restore available yet. I was going to try to dump it this weekend, but I never got time. If there was one available, I'd be wary of coming from a custom rom without wiping data...there are too many changes that could cause issues.
So then what's the best way to get back to stock so I can visit Verizon? I don't have to keep data...but won't be able to use titanium to restore. Right?

Well titanium backup and then either pull the sd or copy the contents to your pc. Odin ep4d and take the ota. IF YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE THE SD IN THEN FORMAT IT because CWM and some root apps leave stuff on there.

Hopefully they won't give me any trouble and a new phone.
Since the phone will be stock until I get to the store, is there any way to restore apps and settings without downloading and reentering info? I don't want the phone to look too stock. I want it to be gently used and worthy of a swap. are there any non root backup programs to help with this that would not tip them off to the fact that the phone had been rooted?

Im getting a new phone. Should be here today.
Rather simple really:
Unroot phone
visit store
Store confirms defective device
Store sets up warranty swap from warehouse
Wait for phone to arrive
Root new phone and setup device
Wipe old phone & send back to vzw.
The worst part of the process was talking to the customer service rep on the phone setting up the swap and her telling me that it sounds like screen bleed and that i should file an insurance claim or will pay 199 for claiming damage as defective device. No way am i paying cuz i keep my phone fom getting damaged...

[Q] Possible to save older app version file apk from non-rooted phone?

forgive my ignorance, heres some background info. Ive been using android for a long time but not very technically knowledgeable about the OS but I think its time i learn some stuff. Im far more knowledgeable than the average PC user about most hardware and software so I dont think it would be too hard to pick up some power user android tips/tricks. Only reason I havent done so yet is cause the stock version has always worked great for my needs so far but im starting to have some issues now. I fricking HATE forced OTA updates as they most often fubar my phone after they install. Ive never rooted, thought im starting to look into doing so as it may be beneficial to my needs. I currently have a samsung galaxy note 3 on verzion with unlimited data which i pretty much only use as a wifi hotspot device, upwards of 250 gig a month for about 6 months of the year to stream HD video TV shows and as my main internet source while i travel and a samsung galaxy note 4 on att with 30 gig a month data allowance which i use as my main mobile phone/tablet device needs. In my experience ATT sucks a fat one with very sporadic data speeds and successful call rates even with 4-5 bars of 4G LTE signal which varys from non existent to moderate at best wherever i go. Verizon is 2x as fast as atts top speeds consistently with no wavering in speeds anywhere and with equal signal verizion is always at least 2x faster than att wherever ive tested them so far. id throw the att at a brick wall and only use verizon except for the fact verizon has zero coverage where i live most of the time.
Anyways back to the main topic question, I have a DJI Inspire 1 quad copter and use my att samsung galaxy note 4 phone to view the camera as i fly and run the DJI Pilot app. I hate and do not want to use the updated app version as it removes features and adds unwanted restrictions and I was wondering if someone could tell me how I can copy the app apk file I think its called? from my phone to my pc to preserve my current version of the app and install it later to a different device or my same device after a factory reset if ever necessary. I dont not want to lose the current app version that im running now. Its since been updated on the google play store so you can no longer the the version im currently running from there. Is this possible without being rooted from a samsung galaxy note 4 running android version 5.0.1 on att? I may have the same app version installed on my note 3 on verizon running kit kat i think, and maybe even an older att note 2 running an even older android version, not sure which, but its on the OTA update that fubared the note 2 on att.
oh and one more question please, my note 3 on verizon has downloaded another OTA update and keeps asking me to install which i keep postponing cause i use foxfi for my hotspotting needs and am scared the OTA update will screw that ability up so i dont want to install it. Its working perfectly for what i want to use if for right now so no reason to update in my opinion. Is there any way to delete this OTA update file and get it to stop asking me to update every time i use the device?
any info appreciated, thanks a million!
1)Go settings >
About phone/system updates
Select options and select never update
2)or restrict back ground data in data settings

@SultanGris
If u want to back up your current app then u can easily do it wit any backup app...available in store..
Like -App backup and restore etc
Or u can use es Explorer there a option to backup apps...
And for restrict ur update. There may be a option to restrict update or check update in system update setting.. Or you can restrict background data for system updates...
Hope this helps
I've disabled them now but it's to late, it already downloaded and keeps asking to install. Any way to find and delete the file it wants to install?

Click to collapse
May be clear data of system updates works
