Yeah, it seems like there aren't too many devs writing on this phone, I would expect that this long after the release there would be some more development, its sad that at this point, there's only one custom rom for this phone
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
Droid 2/X Roms work on globals they just can't connect to the network. And the slide out keys are in the wrong order. So I don't see why some can't tweak some of the other Roms to work on this phone.

they do? last time i tried it bricked mine. the global has totally different framework. i wish a dev would at least try to get another rom going for us. i'd be willing to test now since there is an SBF.
I fudged up and installed liberty 1.0 and the Droid 2 fission rom both worked fine be side the keypad and no network the liberty rom was incredibly fast and snappy.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
Yeah, I tried to install liberty when I first got my phone and it bricked it, I'm pretty sure it doesn't work
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
Worked for me but I did it when I had already bricked mine. And all I could do was boot to recovery screen

Hopefully some goods come soon the droid x is been out for 8 months and the droid 2 has been out for 6 months. Droid 2 global has only been out for 2 months.... but hopefully developers get crackin soon. All in due time my fellow flashing addicts.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
I rooted and flashed my friend og droid with cyagen earlier today and im so jealous and my global kicks it ass but we gots nada..
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
I hope it does. I check this thread every day multiple times to see if the Fission 2.5.7 is up. I hope some dev's come through. I'm willing to "donate" for them!
Ok, I decided to give it a try and install liberty, I got it to work after wiping pretty much everything. And as stated before, keyboard and network don't work, but I got everything else to work, including wifi. I think this should be a wake up call, devs can port roms from the droid 2 and x, with a bit of modification.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
I already donated but no love yet....
Yeah I wouldn't imagine that it would take much
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
No the framework is totally different on the D2G so it is timely to port.
The real shame is that there isn't a single decent physical keyboard phone for verizon aside from the D2G, or D2, but the D2 can only be had preowned now afaik, and both have the locked bootloader that is the main problem for these phones. Without that this phone might just have someone developing cyanogenmod or something for it. Hopefully a nice slider comes out in the not too distant future.
I don't think the boot lock is that much of a problem. Since there are a ton of d2/x roms
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
No the framework is the problem....if it was the same we would have 10 or more rims by now.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
I just think its a matter of time, D2G's haven't been out that long. I know a few people with the OG droid who aren't even due for a phone upgrade...and others had to upgrade to the D2 before the D2G came out.
not that bad, I have fission rom manager from team defuse which deodex'd, rooted, and clockwork recovery'd my phone, then I installed red theme from droidforums and it runs smooth, fast and looks nice. This phone is still the fastest and smoothest out there and when moto releases gingerbread (hopefully with an unlocked bootloader) this phone will be able to compete with the tegra 2 phones (compete not compare)
I picked up fission too, spent the money to support the only ROM we have =P Hopefully more will come.

Would it be silly to hang onto the Droid 2 in hopes that someone will release a stock 2.2 ROM for it, or is this a common thing? I'm very new to Android. Have stable stock 2.2 ROMs become available for other phones? Thanks.
A lot of phones have vanilla roms. FlyX is being ported to the droid 2 and will be vanilla
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
This can't come soon enough. Motorola and Verizon have really bastardized Android on these phones.
Seriously. I was using my friend's Captivate and was shocked at the performance difference. Was considering a switch to the Fascinate, but I think I'll hold off. Love the keyboard, but there is so much blur nonsense running in the background... ridiculous.
I am gonna be making a vanilla/stock rom. I have a rom already for the D2 over on DF but I can't post here yet.
its an ok rom, but id prefer to de-bloat my own phone until a full rom is released

I've been using an Epic 4G the past week and this touchwiz is much more annoying than the motoblur. I'm assuming the Fascinate would have twiz too.

Why is the HTC Eris running Gingerbread and the Nook Color running Honeycomb before the Droid2 even gets a CW rom?
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
The droid 2 has a locked bootloader, shich prevents anyone from modyfying the kernel, in order to upgrade to gingerbread, you have to upgrade the kernel, so you can see how were all kind of stuck here with froyo until motorola officially releases gingerbread for our phones
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA App
Thanks for the reply. I thought that might be the problem but I was hopeful. Heard any rumors as to when we might see Gingerbread?

Well the Droid X supposedly was seen with gingerbread in the making by motorola. Whether the droid 2 or droid 2 global get it as well remains to be seen. Many people claim now that gingerbread 2.4 is coming out opposed to 2.3 that the phone manufacturers will wait for that to be fully released before making anything for phones. Either way hopefully something will come in the future.
I have the G2x right now and I keep considering the Sensation. The only thing that is stopping me is that the bootloader may be hard to crack. The devs have yet to do it for several devices and this may be the next. Will this stop you or are you still buying?

From what HTC leaks said, it will have a level of security like thunderbolt or incredible S.
If it's like thunderbolt it will be very easy to unlock, if it's like IS given the actual R&D of the devs...it ''may'' be unlocked once released if the IS method is working.
So it doesn't look like an impossible mission for our good devs
All the N1,Desire and DHD devs will work on it, very few are going towar the SGS2
Yes. It IS a deal-breaker for me. It was the only reason I didn't get the Incredible S two months ago.
So far it looks like the only way to unlock the Incredible S is with an XTC Clip and the last time I looked it was only working for some models.
Bin4ry may have made some headway on this but the last post I see from him with any new information on the matter was on the 26th of April when he said, "I said that i made progress YES, but i have not achieved anything."
TBH I've been having a terrible Android experience so far. Being on the Motorola Milestone, I still don' tknow what it's like to be on a fully free device... not to mention the 256mb RAM really CRIPPLES the entire experience of this phone.
So while the specs on these new phones are nice, I think I'd be getting a screwed up vision of Android once again if these phones never get unlocked. Somehow I had hoped Moto's bootloader would get cracked. Boy was I wrong.
The question is : why getting the risk ? there is plenty of unlocked bootloaders devices out there from LG and SE and even some better spec'd like the SGS2. LG and SE aren't very supported by devs but HTC and Samsung are the best supported one, so if a free bootloader is important for you and you don't even want to worry about dev support take an unlocked one
But for me it is not a dealbreaker as I'm getting both (SGS2 and Sensation), but for someone that will only pick one of the two you might have to think twice..

Still the kernel can't be changed. Keep in mind that a stable 2.2 rom wasn't possible until motorola released beta's of that rom. This due to the fact that the 2.2 rom didn't really want to work with the 2.1 kernel. Motorola isn't really great at writing kernels either.
I already know the next android version will probably won't work.

So it will be rootable and we can block ads, use apps requiring root, etc, just not load different ROMs?
Not overly concerned about custom Roms, but definitely want to be able to run some apps that require root.
If I am understanding this correctly my G2x is going back tonight.
I'm completely content to run a stock ROM if it's stable. I've never had occasion to root or put an alternative ROM on my Nexus One and all of my experiences with the HD2, G1, and Viewsonic G-Tablet ROMs have been mixed, Cyanogen or otherwise.
Definitely not a deal breaker.

Hmm I did understand that the latest update of the wildfire made it impossible to flash custom firmware. Hope it doesn't go that way.
So a coworker of mine recently joined the Android family from a 3gs, but is actually considering going back because he can't get netflix. Is there a work around for a non rooted phone or an eta on when/ if it will be officially released?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
There prolly won't be an official way to get it until/unless we get the gingerbread update. Works great on Virtuous Unity, though.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side.
Any of the latest GB ROMs for DesireHD that have hit the streets lately like the Asian WWE, Telus or the Australian one from a week or so ago (or custom ROMs based on these) will work using the libstagefrighthw.so file from the Pyramid Sense 3.0 ROM (which is what the Virtuous Unity ROM is based on so you can copy from that). Hopefully HTC will have an updated lib file before the US 2.3.3 release, but I'm not holding my breath.
So, short answer: your friend will probably go back to iPhone. Ask him how much to buy his Inspire.
hey check this out i use it and it works great http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14333706&postcount=238
He is still in the first week so he'll probably just swap it for the iPhone. It's a shame though been working hard to get all of my coworkers on Android. What's the word on GB I would assume its an ATT problem considering this phone is an upgrade from the EVO.

I read some where on here that the Inspire is allegedly going to be one of the next phones to get an official release from Netflix. But for now you have to be rooted.
Based on feature set, availability and price my reasearch has led me to this phone with the RAZR as a second choice(pentile screen, waker battery, no FM). The RAZR has better development though(incl kexec). I'm hoping to run ICS as a daily driver in the very near future and JB/CM10 down the line. What do you think?
Price-wise it's the best phone you can get. I myself owned a HTC magic and then a nexus one and can confirm that the build quality is solid. Webtop is also a great feature.
Rom-wise we've stock/modded ICS and soon ported CM10. But don't expect to unlock the bootloader. If you can live with it, buy it
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
Keep in mind, this is one persons opinion, but personally, I love this phone. We have 2 ICS Leaks, and CM10 is right around the corner.
It's mainly your preference, but i'd say just to be sure you want this phone, read all that you can from this forum.

Bootmenu is great man. With it, you can essentially dual boot so to speak. Check the thread out, it tells you ALMOST everything you need to know. Something's you can read around the forums and find answers to. I've become pretty familiar with it, so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask me.
Also others are here to help too
By the way, just a heads up, this should be in Q&A

Heh Heh Heh......... That's my boy :victory:
Thread Move in progress.
Oh, BTW, threw a couple thanks to you 2 for great advice to the new people. Way to go!
If you can live with a locked bootloader I don't see why not, the specs are decent, screen size is pretty good and overall quality is nice. We have ICS (leak), a few custom roms, and CM10 is being worked on (I believe camera isn't working just yet). Mine is currently softbricked because I got into a bootloop and my battery is low , but that's easy to fix once I can charge the battery, which I'm being patient with and not doing anything risky and potentially harmful to the battery or phone. In conclusion, if the price is right, it's a pretty decent phone, with a locked bootloader (Always a catch)
Hmm. How about making a bounty or making a collection for a donor device to a dev? Just thinking out loud...
The only feature I'm missing that a custom kernel might solve is 2-way call recording. I think...

You won't be disappointed. This is only the second phone I've owned in 16 years that I haven't wanted to destroy after a couple months of use.
Is the lack of support from Motorola annoying? Sure, but the amount of support from the developers and everyone in this community is all you will need. Whether you stay on Gingerbread or upgrade to the ICS leak, there are plenty of amazing ROMS and mods to play with.
Just make sure you read through the forums (especially the stickies) and familiarize yourself with phone and the community.
