Netflix? - HTC Inspire 4G

So a coworker of mine recently joined the Android family from a 3gs, but is actually considering going back because he can't get netflix. Is there a work around for a non rooted phone or an eta on when/ if it will be officially released?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

There prolly won't be an official way to get it until/unless we get the gingerbread update. Works great on Virtuous Unity, though.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side.

Any of the latest GB ROMs for DesireHD that have hit the streets lately like the Asian WWE, Telus or the Australian one from a week or so ago (or custom ROMs based on these) will work using the libstagefrighthw.so file from the Pyramid Sense 3.0 ROM (which is what the Virtuous Unity ROM is based on so you can copy from that). Hopefully HTC will have an updated lib file before the US 2.3.3 release, but I'm not holding my breath.
So, short answer: your friend will probably go back to iPhone. Ask him how much to buy his Inspire.

hey check this out i use it and it works great http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14333706&postcount=238

He is still in the first week so he'll probably just swap it for the iPhone. It's a shame though been working hard to get all of my coworkers on Android. What's the word on GB I would assume its an ATT problem considering this phone is an upgrade from the EVO.

are you rooted? or your friends rooted

sorry try this one it has the up date its on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
com.netflix.mediaclient-1.apk is Netflix 1.2.2 (Released 6/15/11)

No he's not rooted and I doubt he plans on rooting it.

I read some where on here that the Inspire is allegedly going to be one of the next phones to get an official release from Netflix. But for now you have to be rooted.

MT4G Gingerbread update coming soon according to HTC rep

http://www.tmonews.com/2011/04/mytouch-4g-gingerbread-update-coming-soon/
Can't wait, new roms will hopefully come in droves after this
cool..too bad I've been using gingerbread for the past couple of months now! So far so good!
Damn it, you beat me to it!
Well, 2Q 2011 ended 11 days ago. I'll believe it when I see it. Actually, I won't ever see it because I'm now using Virtuous Unity. Hot stuff I tell you. And it doesn't have all the pre-loaded crapware T-Mobile adds into the ROM.
The Nexus One spoiled me. I tried to keep my MT4G stock as long as possible. I'm surprised I made it 6 months on the stock MT4G ROM. Once you root and flash a gazillion different ROMs, stock is definitely and simply boring.

Hahahaha! Keep dreamin. Don't forget that the doubleshot has more than twice the processing power of the glacier. Sense 2.1 was already pushing it with the bloatware T-mobile added. Sense 3.0 is even worse.

Of course not the hardware on that thing is the same as Sensation....We get Espresso, check out the leaked GB ROM for our phones, that's what we're getting. There's a doubleshot rom from the MT4GS here too if you wanna taste of 3.0 on that phone. Ginger for us will look just like froyo, no fancy 3D effects for older single core phones.

You are correct. The Gingerbread leak from early May looks identical to 2.2.1. The only big change/addition was the inclusion of the Quick Settings tab in the notification pulldown. I believe the leaked build had Sense 2.1. Pretty much going to have to rely on XDA if you want Sense 3.0 on your MT4G.

I've been testing the Gingerbread update and was going to post some screenshots, but apparently I need to have at least 8 posts before I can do so per the rules of the forums here.
I don't want to spam the forums here to hit some limit, but when I hit the magical 8 posts, I'll submit a post with images of the update.
So if i were to unroot to check out the update when its released i would have to root a completly different way? I had to gfree cause of the locked bootloader on the mt4g that i bought. Since my phone has the "bad emmc" I was thinking that using stock for a couple months til the phone dies would be a safe gamble.
What gingerbread update your talking about? We haven't got an ota, just the leak.

I know what the thread is about. You may wanna read my question again.
Again, the question is whether joedonh is from tmo and thats how he is testing the upgrade or whether he is working on leaked version which everyone here has access to. Later is most likely not the case but just want to confirm.
Some Tmo employees have been selected to test the official GB rom. I imagine it is just as bad as the froyo build. it is still a "stock" rom so i am sure it is full of bloatware...

If he is an employee with T-mobile then he'd be breaking the NDA that they have to sign when getting phones or updates before the public. It's also against T-mobile policy. I wouldn't take the chance of it getting back to T-mobile and losing my job to show off a screen shot.

Why does Google forget the first Nexus s?

just read an artical on androidcentral that the htc google nexus one got android 2.3.6.
In the meantime nexus s 4G got andorid 2.3.7 and the normal nexus s is still n 2.3.4
why do they forget this device where there are still lott of bugs with wifi and keeping connection with google.
Hopefully this will better with ics
Will the NS even get ICS? :/
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
if the nexus even got gingerbread and now 2.3.6 then the ns would get ics or i will never buy a nexus phone again
I'm really pissed at this too! If they were to give an explanation, fine, but there ain't nothing been said!
Sent from my Nexus S
I dont think the nexus one will not because google doses not want to but b/c of the hardware its too outdated it has little memory, ram etc so it will be buggy and laggy and goovle would prefer a much smoother experience I heard once it got gingerbread it was acting slow, nexus prime 4 me : D
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
2.3.6 was a bug fix for a bug the original Nexus S doesn't have, same with 2.3.5. 2.3.7 on the other hand brought Google Wallet which is Sprint Exclusive and since i9020t has GSM bands and not CDMA and can therefore not run on Sprint's network we don't get it.
The 2.3.6 update stared rolling out to Nexus S devices on September 2nd. From what I've read, it is mainly to fix the search button bug that has been affecting some NSs. So far I think only Canadian NSs have received the update, though.
I wouldn't be so upset that you're not receiving the update though because there are reports that it kills tethering and portable hotspot.
http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/02/...ate-confirmed-rolling-out-tethering-problems/
I wouldn't be too worried about ice cream sandwich. Google wants the open handset alliance to commit to 18 months of updates for all devices. (I suppose this would be 18 months from launch, rather than 18 months from whenever you happened to buy it.) I can't image them not updating a pure google phone for even 12 months. I wouldn't be surprised if the n1 got it, too.

Says the guy who is logical and not knee jerking. Why is everyone up in arms about not getting an update the targeted bug fixes NOT for their device? Outside of 2.3.7 you're not missing anything.
Wallet was always going to be a Sprint exclusive launch since it was announced.
If you want the latest build Google provides the binaries, source and instructions to build an AOSP rom. It's simple and you can easily always be as up to date as you would like.

I don't see any problem here. My 2.3.4 running i9023 is working just fine, without any search/tethering/reception/other problems, so I guess those fixes don't apply to my device
Maybe device specific fixes should have some kind of unique name? Like 2.3.4a?
If anyone is here to be blamed, I would point out Samsung for making at least 4 different devices named Nexus S with their own issues i9023 is not even anywhere officially listed as SNS...
Oh, and stock GB on N1 was not even close to be as good as on SNS. 2 second wait before call answer anyone?
Good day gentlemen
For the people with the original nexus s complaining...I feel you cause I have it myself. Yes at first I was pissed of about not getting updates. But after doing some research I finally realized we have in all the nexus versions have the perfect built. Update 2.3.5 brings better 4G reception for sprint users. I also wanted 4G but not noticing my phone does run hsdpa even though it says 3G. Update 2.3.6 brought voice search fixes. That we don't need. And now 2.3.7 it is not googles fault they wanted google wallet to get pushed through but T-Mobile has a deal with ISIS another form of mobile payment. So yes I understand your frustrations. But know it is not googles fault its your carriers like myself T-Mobile. And which I think tmo is no longer running the show but at&t. So be happy with your original nexus s it is the perfect built among others.
And I'm a proud user of my nexus s running stock 2.3.4 rooted

[Q] we ever getting ICS

Is te HTC Inspire gettin ICS?
sent from something called...i think its a computer...not sure
As of right now, the Inspire is supposed to get ICS, but it is still up for debate. I bet there will be ICS ports though, so we will get it one way or another
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I thought HTC denied the Inspire would get ICS
Unless they denied it within the last week, it is still floating in limbo. Some say the HTC Ace and Stallion, which are the code names for DHD and Inspire, should receive ICS
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Even if the inspire doesn't get an official update to ICS there will be a custom rom
I don't think there will ever be an official release. We may get a newer gingerbread upgrade since the last on bites, but development for the inspire leaves us with better roms than stock anyway. I bet there will be a better more stable release through xda before ics ever hits officially for the inspire, but I don't think it ever will. I emailed HTC and asked if we would be getting ics or any other upgrades and they said they are working to make the experience better for the inspire but do not have anything in the works currently. This lead me to beleive they are long past worrying about the inspire. We will probably not even get a better gingerbread build imo.
HTC already released the list of devices that are getting ICS, Inspire4g/desire hd not in it.
Sorry.
If it doesn't we will still get it with ports from other devices... and of course cyanogen so no worries man

Yeah i saw it somewhere it wasn't the complete list, but i find it hard to believe an 1 year old phone get the second update of its existence; the phone is technically 1 year old, considering its a variation of the DHD (released in september '10 I believe)

It wont matter really what HTC releases. It will be up to ATT to release a build built for the inspire or the best we can hope for is a port from the DHD. ATT normally has done a One OS update per device and thebinspire got theirs already. Hope I am wrong but history says I am not.

Then i got the A2, now on my third one (have one to ship back, camera shat the bed, nothin but dark, p button randomly decides to put in a p when i text and the hard buttons are on the right (landscape), recieved the new one yesterday, but it came with ics so now im a bit sad)
I have 2 iphone 4 that i got for doing computer work, one at&t, one verizon... i just recently modified my sim card to work in both my a2 and the iphone so i can use the iphone at work ( keep my precious a2 out of the saw dust ( and tethering works on the iphone and i use it a lot at work)
When at&t finnally gives me an upgrade, ill be getting either the sgiii or the nexus 4 and selling back one of the iphones so i can keep my a2 ( if the bootloader was unlocked i swear it would be an almost perfect phone, i really love it)

I read this on a thread here somewhere, a guy had spoken to a friend who worked for HTC and he said that they would not be releasing ICS for the shift. Based on this, I think its pretty safe to say that HTC will not be rolling out a JB update, sad as it is. Your best bet is to root and flash a custom JB rom, several of which you can find over in the development forums

Yeah they kinda made a half assed attempt at closing the exploit in the last OTA, I wouldn't expect any more updates from HTC for the Shift, period.

I was in my local BestBuy and surprised to see this phone still available for purchase. I would expect HTC to be planning an update to at least ICS since they are still selling these phones.
Gingerbread was good when this phone came out two years ago, but way out dated now to expect customers will be happy with it starting a new two year contract.

I know, support for this phone is so bad, the most recent update just broke youtube links and other links going to the right apps
Its just bad how much HTC neglects this awesome phone...

Yeah my HTC MyTouch 4G Slide is still on GB and will never see official ICS, but thanks to everyone on xda I've ported 3 JellyBean ROMS for it.
Since leaving the Shift I've moved from Sense to AOSP and wouldn't have it any other way.

Since offically, HTC says the our shifts have reached EOL, don't expect many updates from them at all. And besides, we actually have an amazing 4.x community on the shift. I mean, we aren't the SIII or anything, but there are a handful of ICS and JB roms. Pick one and flash it, then you could just act like the phone came that way
