Has anyone tried seemymobile.com yet? It is supposed to track your phone after loading a client on your WM6 phone. They say they are in beta, is it safe?

As I understand this, it just uses your GPS chip to get your position and send it to their server using your 3G.
1. This will drain battery like hell.
2. If you don't have an unlimited Data plan, you'll be ruined by the end of the month.
Thanks, I tried it just to see and its really cool. I talked with the guy developing it and he said the latest version of the beta has done better with battery life, and that yes data is a concern. Soon there will be an option on how often to poll, like with activesync which he said will really help battery and do better with data as well.. If anyone is interested I'll post updates here from time to time as the new versions come out.
Hello everyone. I haven't posted here for a while, but I figured this would be the best place to ask.
We recently moved from AT&T to T-Mobile. As my fiancee has an iPhone, I had to jailbreak it. It was running version 3.0.1 when I did the jailbreak, and I kept the OS the same version (as it was easy). Since she had already "accidently" done the update from iTunes when 3.0.1 came out (my mistake. I told her to update it), all I had to do was download the hacked firmware (linked from the DevTeam blog) and install (IIRC) BlackRain.
We have not downloaded a single app to the phone, other than BlackRain to do the carrier unlock.
I don't really monitor data usage, as we have an unlimited data through T-Mobile. However, just out of curiosity, I checked usage today.
At 5:06am MST, her phone did a data transfer (according to the T-Mobile site) of 4.99MB. She didn't wake up until after 6am.
The only data she uses is Exchange ActiveSync (through my Exchange server) and and web browsing, usually for an hour or so, after 9 or 10pm. She has no other data-centric apps loaded. The only email she received early this morning was a 1KB email from a family member. No emails with big attachments or anything to indicate it email was responsible for the data usage.
From what I can tell, it's either one of two things:
1) Poor accounting by T-Mobile, through either an error in the reported data usage, or an incorrect time stamp for the usage.
2) Some rogue app that was built into the hacked .IPSW file that is "phoning home" personal data.
Can anyone chime in here?
Thanks in advance.
Here's an attachment of the data usage over the past few days (sorted by size, descending).
Only the two largest entries are suspect. We can easily account for the rest of the usage, and the times seem to be 100% accurate.
The funny thing is, two days ago, her Bluetooth stopped working (won't connect/pair with her car... but I haven't had a chance to investigate).
Coincedence?
Ok, looking through the other logs, there is a 3.8MB transfer at 3:06pm yesterday as well. She did not leave work until after 4pm.
Other than that, everything looks good. All the suspicious transfers occured within the last two days... which is also when the Bluetooth stopped working.
I think you choose a bad place for asking anything related about iphone
Better try here:

did you resolve this?
could it be exchange ?

No. It's not exchange. I used Wireshark to see where the data is going... it's going to Apple servers.
Funny, just now (I originally started this thread in December) it's getting media coverage:
http://consumerist.com/2010/09/watch-for-mysterious-data-usage-on-your-iphone.html
Watch out sheeple... Apple is the new evil empire. MS could give a hoot about your demographics.
The most astonishing thing about this is.... IT'S ILLEGAL! There has been lawsuit after lawsuit against companies collecting data without their express permission (anyone remember RealPlayer?).
A few years ago, this stuff was an atrocity... now people just "deal with it" because they love their iPhones.
Funny.... I was one of the first to figure out this stuff was happening. No one seemed to care, no matter where I posted it.
Now we get this:

Not an Iphone forum, if interested head over to Ipd.

Is this really a widespread problem, or is it more Engadget anti-Android propaganda?
Not sure but I haven't experienced it in almost a year of using several android devices.
I use Handcent, so I have no idea what they're talking about.

For the record, I love android. I hate all the anti-android crap going around. But I have experienced this before. One time upon booting up, my contacts were all mixed up with the wrong numbers. It was so weird. My friend became my dads name on there and another friend became my cousins whom I never texted. So when they texted me I saw the names and was like wtf? How do they know about (whatever we were chatting about earlier). Took another reboot and everything was fine. I also experienced the phone clicking on the wrong thread that I pressed, that definitely happens. I've learned to double check who Im texting.
Is this fixed by using a different SMS app then? Apparently it happens with e-mails, too, but only with the default e-mail app.
I have been using an HD2, that dual boots WM 6.5 and Android 2.2 Froyo, never had this problem.
My daughter uses a Behold 2 and sends and receives over 16000 text messages per month, and never a problem like this.
I think it's more hate against Android, since it is starting to get a strong hold of the smartphone market.
I'm also sure it's a lot of user error too.
Google just updated this to critical, so I'm guessing it'll be patched pretty soon.
It happens to me at least twice a week. I actually switched to handcent it was so bad. Thankfully I never had anything truly embarrassing go to the wrong person, but I have had some confusing moment...The worst was when I carried out a long conversations with the wrong person... The problem happens when you click on the new message item in the notification menu without actually opening it up through the messaging app. You see the correct reply thread, and it is only when you press send that you realize it sent to the wrong person. This is very real, but I used to think it was just my phone.
lmao. This is just amusing.
The ONLY time I ever got the bug was when I received a new message, I used the drop down menu bar to view the message, and this was on a beta froyo build. Any time I went through the regular messaging app, everything was fine. Last I read in a forum long ago burried, only time the bug happened was when you used the drop down...
I've used Android since the G1 was released and don't remember ever experiencing this issue. But if it is an issue, then it needs media attention to get Google to fix it as quick as possible. Although, the problem is getting the fix out, since you know, all these carriers and manufacturers take forever to get an OTA out.

Hi all,
I want to let everyone know that we are actively investigating this issue, and we hope to have an update soon. Obviously, this is a very difficult to reproduce bug.
Rather than replying "me too", you can star this issue to follow it. Just saying "me too" just obscures the useful information in this bug, and makes it harder to fix. Of course, if you have useful information to add to the bug, such as a system dump or an insightful analysis of the code, feel free to update the bug with your observations.

So they are now investigating this. I'll be using Handcent on my DHD until they sort it.

16,000? I'm sure most networks in the UK have a 3,000 FUP
Anyway, I haven't experienced this issue in the 18 months I've been using Android

I can believe 16,000. My 17 year old sister has about 10,000 a month. Unlimited texting, ftw.
I've been using Android since the release of the HTC Dream in Canada and I've never ever ever ran into this problem, and most of the ROMs I've ran have been beta or experimental. I'm thinking they're blowing it out of proportion.

When we were on Verizon, one month it was up to 39,000. I was floored. That is when I was like thank goodness for.....Unlimited Texting FTW!
Still no problems like this.
I've never had this problem and Goggle has made a press release and said they are having a hard time replicating it. I think that there could be an error that happens once in a blue moon, but I think most of the time it's just user error.

Oh yeah, I believe it. I'm just curious as to how their fingers haven't worn to the bone yet?
Googles claiming they can't reproduce this internally and they've only upped it's status cause of bad publicity. That's what androidguys claim ...

Yeah sometimes when I get a message I click on the thing in the drop down menu and it takes me to another thread, but I'm pretty sure the point of clicking that button is just for it to get you to the messaging app. Also sometimes I go to the messaging app and click the top thread and it takes me to a different thread. So this bug is true at times.
ICS so dangerous it should be illegal
No cell maker or seller should be allowed to market a mobile phone without true hands free voice dialing. The voice dialer on my GN is a joke. If I have to look closely at the phone to confirm the correct choice and then actually touch it to dial, it's a joke and too dangerous for public safety. What are these makers and carriers thinking?
How can they release something so retro? I need and am used to leaving my phone in my coat pocket while I drive and making bluetooth calls without ever looking at the phone. I need audio confirmation before calling just like I had on my old DX for 2 years and my WinMo for 2 years before that. I don't see any apps that fit the bill either. Anyone know of a ROM that included that feature?
And what about voice dialing's older sister, speed dialing? That is gone altogether. I had forty #'s available 20 years ago. That's gotta be why Motorola hasn't gone to ICS. They have lots of customers who do business on the phone first and use it as a toy second.
I'm enjoying the horsepower of my new GN but ICS is not ready for safe mobile use and should not have been released for such use. Especially in this day of thousands of tickets being issued for handheld phone use not to mention wreckage.
I wonder why I haven't seen more discussion on these forums on this topic. I think I'll be ebaying my new GSM GN and getting stuck with another Big Red contract and a Maxx. I'm so sick of contracts.
Rabble rabble rabble
Voice dial works great for me and there are dozens of speed dial apps on the market. Chill pill: try one.

You shouldn't talk on your phone while driving...
Studies show that this isn't good since you are diverting attention from a work that requires quick reflexes...
No matter how experienced multitasker/skilled driver you are...
(In fact, its even illegal in my country, India)

I have never used an GN before, so not sure about your complaint. Voice dialing and Bluetooth commands in general work great on my HTC Sensation. My eyes never leave the road for me to make a call. This is a good thing since you can get a big ticket for using your phone while driving from where I'm from (that is, if you aren't using some sort of handsfree device).
ICS does seem kind a slow to me too!

Hi geeks and geekettes,
I've been running for a few months on a ST TMO SIM and getting an average of very roughly 200kb a day (3GWatchdog).
I got a test AirVoice account (great CS!!!) and get speeds max at 350kbps (speedtest.net) (which is more than fine for me) but notice that I am unable to get through a day with less than 1mb - often 2mb, even after I shut off sync (contacts and gmail). Usage is a lot in "OS and other services" and a lot in the particular browser (Maxthon or "browser")(3GWatchdog).
So I got curious as to what in the SGS4G was doing that as I don't think that ATT is subversively doing a double or triple thing. I know it's a TMO phone, but I am guessing that in its use of the ATT towers it's doing extra work. Yes, I am thinking there's an Infuse in my future but that won't happen for 2 or 3 months. Meantime I have gone back to ST and won't port to AV until I get an ATT phone.
Thoughts on that extra work? Running erikmm's SlimICS V2
Thanks!
Better Battery Stats may give more information.
I'm mixed on My Data Manager as a day-to-day tool for a variety of reasons, but it might be another view to help diagnose.
Posted from my SGS4G, thanks to Team Acid development
Hi Jeff, I used to use My Data Manager, but it didn't work when I first put up SlimICS. I had to reflash for an MMS prob, so I'll try it again.
I get 3 days out of a battery, so I never thought to try BBS. I'll grab it.
BBS is useless. MDM is better than 3GWD (and does work on SlimICS). No real clue as to why AV(ATT) burns more data, but google services seems to jump.
The short answer might be "CM9" but SlimICS did it lots, CM7 did it a lot less, 2.3.6 seems to not do it at all.
It's all google services/framework's fault. An easy out is to shut off background syncing, and freeze market/play when you're not using it (it's always out and about checking to be sure everything updated ... LOL
