Hey guys! I got my Samsung Infuse 4g today (finally!) And I must say, I'm quite impressed. I previously owned a Captivate until I bricked it flashing incorrect bootloaders, and I must say this phone is a HUGE improvement. I just wanted to put my 2 cents out there for those of you who are "on the fence" about buying this phone.
-It is NOT "too big" for most hands. I find it very easy to type with one hand, even.
-The battery life is great! Even on stock! I mean, it's no Tilt2 but so far I've been using it for about 12 hours and still have 76% battery life left!
-The GPS works great (thank god... I'm looking at you, Cappy. v_v) I haven't had a chance to test it while driving yet, but meh, I have a TomTom. I would only ever use it if I absolutely had to.
- It doesn't have that "dialer lag" my old Cappy suffered. Not sure if this was phone specific but it used to take FOREVER to pull up the dialer.
- 4G is fast, but not really fast. It's almost as if AT&T was like, "welcome to AT&T, where you can have it your way but don't get crazy!" (reference ;p) It is fast though. I got 3542kbps down and 1290 kbps up in Toledo Ohio with 4 bars.
-Lastly, I would like to say that my only gripe so far has been that I had to call AT&T because my data wasn't showing up, and they said I technically "can't" get my unlimited data grandfathered, but an "engineer" would contact me within a week about still having unlimited, so I'm stuck on 2GB, but I forced the tech guy to write down that I DID HAVE unlimited smartphone internet for 3 years. I got his name and everything. This is an AT&T specific issue, however. The phone itself is fantastic.
Hopefully this review will help some of you out there leave your iPhone 4's for the true phone with bigger GB's: the Samsung Infuse 4G! I know I didn't cover too many bases here, but it was, in fact, a small review. Keep that in mind.
I had the same exact issue when I came over to the infuse (1 week ago). Called up ATT and the guy told me the same thing, I asked for a manager and he said, he was one, and that it couldn't be done because it's no longer available, after about 15 minutes of me telling him what a jaggoff he was, I hung up on him, called up 611 and they put it back on the unlimited plan (so I thought), when I checked online it said 2GB plan. I called again and they did it, and I confirmed on the web account that I still have the unlimited. So I guess the moral of the story is don't take no for an answer... also if they told you to wait a week, they are probably hoping you'll forget about it and won't call back. Call today and demand it changed to the unlimited plan, otherwise make it known to the user that if they upgrade they will lose the plan.... they will change it.
I did same thing. Seconded. Bug the **** out of them and tell them you are gonna change carriers.....they'll put unlimited back on.

Thank you guys so much. I will be sure to give them a piece of my mind tomorrow. It really frustrates me that they're doing this. I for one love AT&T and feel that they have been nothing but good to me, but this is ridiculous.
lol @ 12 hours w/ 70 some % left... People must not even use the damn thing.
Guess I'm in my own category of heavy users I guess. Few hours of Google+'ing, three hours of Zynga Poker or Holdem Live = dead phone.
Haha that was with juicedefender ultimate... and my data hasn't been working all day. I've been on Wifi and that was just to install my "main apps" and get my google account situated and stuff. I guess I should have said that before putting it in my review :X
Just a follow up, AT&T did in fact switch me from 2GB to unlimited this morning, so in less than 24 hours my trouble ticket was resolved. AT&T kept a customer... for now
Thanks for the review. I will be receiving mine in the mail tomorrow and will be a royal pain in the butt if they take me off the unlimited plan. I jumped on that bandwidthwagon as soon as they released it and ill be damned if they are going to take me off tomorrow when I activate it. They will loose a customer as quick as they say no. I am looking forward to trying all the different ROMs already developed. Coming from a craptivate, im already foaming at the mouth for CM7 to release something stable.
Thanks again for the review, you calmed my nerves about it being too much like a crappy.
Be sure to check the price after the GS2 comes out, you might be able to get a refund for the difference if the price drops.

I thought the infuse didn't have real 4g. At least that's what I've read somewhere

4G is just a ridiculously overloaded term. What you probably mean by "real" 4G is LTE, which Verizon currently has in some areas and AT&T will begin to roll out "soon." What AT&T is currently calling 4G is usually referred to as HSPA+ or HSDPA, and it is essentially a retrofitted 3G with about thrice as much optimum throughput. Results obviously vary by area, network congestion, signal quality, and myriad other issues.
Umm, yeah actually. That's the details I was referring to. So then it is true, that the Samsung Infuse 4G only has the HSPA+ Side of 4G?
Muse the Infuse
Got my $19 upgrade Infuse last night, installed Infused ROM and I must say I really like this phone. GPS was a little slow but working well now and I just installed screen protector, no meathooks have been on this fabulous screen! Any more complaints about this great machine and I am gonna start jerking knots!
Hmmm, that's unfortunate that AT&T gave you grief.
I had a Cappy that I upgraded from LG Incite that's an upgrade from HTC 8525. I had unlimited PDA data and they grandfathered it all the way to when I upgraded to the Infuse through my wife's phone and she got the Cappy and 2GB data. The 611 agent said they would do the 4G unlimited and only took a few minutes a 2 reboots of my phone.
Overall, I've had very good experiences with in person and call center AT&T staff. The lady who helped with my Cappy upgrade was just plain cute, smart and knowledgeable and worked the upgrade with no issues at all(btw, all the female staff in that store that day were rather hot, it's a Sign!!!). She wasn't pushy at all with any upsells and I was done with new Sammy happiness in under 20mins! Infuse upgrade was also easy as well.
I've been with AT&T for over 6 yrs and I've not had coverage or billing problems that couldn't be explained.
Truly your mileage may vary. Maybe we can start a thread of Top Notch AT&T Stores by zip code. Record your experiences and cite the agent's name and you're thoughts.
We know AT&T staff reads XDA so this would be direct feed back they can't censor like they do in their own forums.
There are a couple of places where you can get the true LTE. Chicago is one of the cities. You can check out the full map on AT&T website.
I have been with AT&T for 4 years already and have never had a problem. I started with old Samsung A707A. It was one of their phones that had 3G and wasn't a smartphone. Used for 2 years and got unlimited data plan when it just came out.
Used iphone 3GS for 2 years. Honostly, I really got tired of Apple telling me what to do. I don't say that my iPhone was bad. It was just limited to me. I believe if I payed my money for my phone, I can use how I want to, not how someone else expects me to use it.
Switch to Android OS having an Infuse was a great decison. Used it right now for 4 days.
Here is my experience:
*Battery life isn't that bad. My iphone was the same way. Plus, it is with the use of HSPA+ (raw 4G/3g+). iPhone while using 3G was eating through the battery like no other. I also for my paranoia bought a case with a battery in it (1700mA). Basically that extends my heavy data usage to 2 days.
*Rooted to use Titanium. I like the customization options.
*The size is NOT too big. It's super thin as well. Even with the case it's alright.
Haven't had any problems with the phone yet.
Using medium data with 4G got me through 7am to 7pm to 78% battery.

Hey guys,
Thank you for your feedback. I think I should clarify a couple things...
1) I live in Toledo, OH, which is a major test market. I might have LTE and not even know it... Does the Infuse even support LTE? I mean, I get better speeds than my friend who has an Atrix 4G, by about 700kbps each time down and 300kbps up. From my experience this phone is freaking fast.
2) I installed some data heavy apps, such as skype, (front facing camera FTW!) and beautiful widgets, and a bunch of games. I can still go through a typical day (8am-12am) with about 10% battery. I'm impressed. Then again, results may vary.
3) Lastly, has anybody tried just keeping the phone on EDGE all day? I mean, if you're using the infused rom and don't use data except for email and such, you could probably just switch it over to EDGE and save a TON of battery life. My cappy used to get about 1/3 extra battery life.
It's good to hear that most of you are also have good Infuse experiences!
I have been experimenting with widgets to toggle 2g-4g great idea. Screen of course is the biggest battery eater.

Well, I was very persistent about speaking with a manager without ripping into the employee (I could tell she didn't know what she was doing) and I was polite about it, and they fixed my problem within 24 hours. Maybe putting reps in their place works, but it's important to remember that they aren't the ones who set up a crapton of frivolous data plans to confuse customers and reps alike.
This is my e-mail to HTC
English is not my primary language so please bear with me.
Multitasking: The phone can not multitask at all. Games, or apps. ex; I was running Runkeeper auto pause mode enable. Stop during my ride to check phone settings and make some changes. The phone killed my application deleting all my data. unacceptable browser refreshing, stopping music applications, closing games, and the list go on.
Games: It might not be HTC fault but as a customer I have paid for a lot of high end games that I can not play with this phone. I know the phone has the hardware to run the games. HTC need to work closer with the game developers to adapt the game to the phone. Ex, GTA 3 runs but I am having issues to save the game, exit, or pause.
Camera: I should be able to decide the quality of the picture detail even if that means slower shutter speed.
Front Facing Camera low lighting exposure is too low. Next to an iPhone in medium dark light conditions my phone performance is terrible. The iPhone looks great.
HTC Live weather wallpaper makes my phone to randomly reboot.
Picture Contact Resolution from G Plus or Phone is unacceptable.

I agree with all of the above. I love this phone and I continue to use this phone, but there are definite issues. The multitasking becomes a huge issue when I am using Google Navigator.

lol pretty sure he is just showing the letter that he wrote to them.....
I sent the letter to HTC. The letter is here so others can copy, edit, use the letter as guidance to log the complaint to HTC or AT&T.
I seen someone mentioned the bbb. I think thats a great idea. I think everyone should file a complaint with the bbb for htc and att. ESPECIALLY the locked bootloader. Companies shouldnt be able to say one thing and do the exact opposite. the whole lag/latency issue with a lot of stuff with this phone... I never had that issue with my amaze, and my dx NEVER has to load the home screen and I almost have the memory maxed out.
And I agree with the gaming issue. the hox cant hold a candle to my old g2x game wise even with basic games.
Something tells me htc doesnt give a crap. We all know att sure doesnt.
3/4 of that stuff has nothing to do with HTC...
"I know some the issues mentioned here are not under HTC control but as a customer I don't care."
You know that, but then you say you don't care. So, lets ***** at HTC anyways... great plan... I am sure if you call up Verizon and piss and moan that will help too! I don't support this type of crap, if you are going to contact HTC, do it intelligently, otherwise your email will just be ignored.

I understand what you are saying but this is the reason people move away from Android phones. It is not anymore if it is HTC fault. I paid for a high end phone and I want the phone to behave as a high end phone. HTC should have done a better effort coordinating with game developers before lunching the phone. Most or none of the top end games are working with this phone unless I root or do something to the phone. This is my complaint I wont ***** anymore, I will return the phone when the time comes. I sure would like to keep it.

To complain about what? The bootloader which isn't something 95% of people buying the phone would even know or care about? Or that HTC's memory management is too aggressive causing you to have to re-open apps in less than a second rather than have them sitting in memory? From observing the forum the biggest real issue is some radio funkiness which isn't unusual when a phone first launches. The i9100 had three updates in three weeks to address radio issues when it launched.
Companies shouldnt be able to say one thing and do the exact opposite.

1) Neither HTC or AT&T have officially said they're not unlocking the bootloader. If that actually happens then there's a beef. Anyone not wanting to take a chance should return their phone while under the remorse period and re-buy it once the bootloader's unlocked. And this is on the front page of the HTCdev site with a warning symbol and has been since the program started...
HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC devices. However, certain models may not be unlockable due to operator restrictions. We continue to work with our partners on this, check back often for ongoing updates about unlockable devices.

Seriously? You think the issues that the One X is experiencing are remotely as severe as what G2X users had to put up with? That phone is the reason I left T-Mobile.
Other than the bootloader which is a philosophical issue, it's way too early to storm the castle with pitchforks and torches over some of the other issues. The phone’s been out two weeks, at least give HTC a chance to push out a couple of updates. They’re not idiots and didn't diabolically plot these issues to make purchasers of their flagship phone’s lives miserable. If you actually take a step back, for a device using a new OS, new overlay, and a new SoC the number of issues are pretty tame.
Coming from a Galaxy S and before that 3 iPhones that died for various reasons within a year of purchase, this phone is near perfect for me (knocking on wood now). I've had one lock-up and one random reboot. Beyond that, battery is fantastic, screen is out of this world and the speed is incredible. It does everything I want and more.
I'm a satisfied customer. Could things improve? Sure they could but I'm comfortable waiting to see what comes next. If nothing else is done with the phone, I'm good.
You have 23 days. Why wait? HTC/ATT aren't going to fix your complaints that fast. Heck nobody fixes things that fast.

You need to return that phone and get an iphone ASAP. Seriously, you expect HTC to work with game developers?? You clearly don't understand how Andorid is working right now. 30 different processors, 20 different GPU's, 50 different screen resolutions, 30 different memory systems. 3 or 4 different software versions. No company can work with ALL game developers to make the phone "compatible" with all of them. With all the variables I just mentioned, its simply impossible to catter to all of them. (Easy example, no Tegra 3 because of no LTE, so no Nvidia game zone for ATT H1X).
The phone DOES behave as a high end phone. Your standards are just looking for something different. Go back to the iphone, 1 piece of hardware, 1 software version, 1 screen size, Apple IS able to work closely with game developers to make the iphone "game compatible".

but it shows HTC needs to work closer with consumers and software developers to create a better experience. It is not about providing great hardware but itself anymore. The phone looks great but I am afraid to loose my bike ride log info again. I cant play any of my games. I have to mess with camera settings to get excellent pictures. It shouldn't be that difficult

Thanks for showing your letter. I often visit these forums before ordering a particular phone. I like to read about the good and bad experiences. Most often users are too excited when they get their new phones or too embarassed to admit they made a mistake to make a post.
My advice is to try the phone. My girlfriend came from using an iphone and she is loving the phone. Of course, She didn't know anything better. Other iphone former users friends are loving the phone too. I think CM9 set a bad precedent in my taste (spoiled)

If you don't own an iPhone, it's time to get one.
This phone has blown me away, completely. The only real issue is the memory management performed by the OS.
Most of these issues you've mentioned are software issues. Hopefully, HTC will push enough updates quickly to fix all of them. However, the devs on XDA Developers are crafty sons of *****es and will make great ROMs for us to flash once we crack the phone open.
Again, if you are expecting a "perfect" experience, move to the iPhone. The iPhone has many limitations to provide its end-users with a "perfect" experience.

That's a bit harsh.
If you flip the One X over and look at the back there are the letters "HTC" prominently displayed. It's their phone, it's their choice to work with AT&T and compromise on things with AT&T. HTC deserves all the blame in the world.
I know this has been discussed before, but I am looking for new ideas. My problem is that due to $!#&@ TMO (I doubt this is HTC 's doing) I cannot change my voicemail from "My Carrier" to Google Voice!!
I have tried everything. In fact supposedly everything should work correctly right now. When I look at Settings>>Call>>Forwarding, all of the forwarding numbers (I.e., when busy, or no answer, etc) all forward to my GV number...and this is what T-Mobile tells me too (as if throwing their hands up in the air in exasperation). BUT, my voicemail number still says "My Carrier"
I keep racking my brain trying to figure out why this doesn't take when I enter *004*xxxxxxxxxx#. It attempts to change it, but then less than a second later I get an error. The only thing I can think of is that the TMO voicemail number still shows on my SIM card.
I don't have a SIM card reader other than this phone. So I was wondering if anyone knows how I could change this info via ADB somehow.
My only other option is to go through hours of phone tech support with TMO since regular customer service gave up. I would like to avoid wasting a half day. I would rather spend the time trying to figure it out myself instead of telling a TMO tech-support person "I can't take the God-damn battery out of the phone...do you know anything about your own branded devices??!!"
Thanks...

Service related issues like no data or the inability to make calls is their specialty. Software issues like freezing, crashing and touchscreen issues they can assist, but when it comes to an OS that doesn't allow you to change the Voicemail number natively, thats not something that t-mobile can override let alone be at fault.
It's crazy how many people believe that the carrier is at fault for not being able to integrate a third party service or feature into their phones. Remember T-mobile is a carrier not a manufacturer. They didn't develop the OS or manufacture the device. [I just want to help put this in perspective.]
The only way this is going to be resolved is if Google develops an app that will override the default vm number. Aside from this, the only thing left is rooting your phone and finding a hack to change the number.
Im not trying to troll your post or anything. Just trying to lead you in the right direction.
It doesn't really matter if your phone says "My Carrier" or "Google Voice"...if you have GV installed, it should still handle your voicemail. You can call T-Mobile and have your conditional forwarding number manually changed on their end to your GV number but the phone will still say "My Carrier". There is a trick though...if you select Google Voice, wait a sec, then hit Home before you get the Failed message, when you go back in the call settings it will say Google Voice...Mine does!

I don't think you are trolling, I just don't think you have your eyes wide open. Ask yourself... If the galaxy nexus from Sprint (also a carrier btw) can switch to Google Voice without a problem... Or even my TMO Androids in the past could switch from "My Carrier" (<<--hint hint, there is a test on this!) to Google Voice, but now suddenly on this new flagship TMO Android, I can't seem to switch it over... we have to ask ourselves the obvious question: if this could be done before, but now it can no longer be done, who stands to benefit from preventing Google Voice from being used instead of "My Carrier"? Ummmm.... Could it be MY CARRIER????
And please, I am not aware of the motivation which allowed your common sense to get off 3 bus stops ago but although TMO is not a manufacturer, do you think that HTC, out of some altruistic code of capitalistic benevolence, decided to generously install onto the One-S: Access My T-Mobile, T-Mobile Mall, MobileLife Contacts, Visual Voicemail, Bonus Apps, CarrierIQ, T-Mobile TV, Zinio, and Where's my Water? Each with their own HTC-designed garish magenta icons (where appropriate)? Or that HTC chose to make a many of these system apps and not regular uninstallable apps so that you needed to resort to ICS's "disable" feature (thank you Google), or, in the extreme case use Titanium Backup's 'Bloatware Melter' to rid your system of them?
Sure Google wrote the OS, and HTC was a little selfish in creating a mandatory integration of Sense into all Android phones (without having to root and flash another ROM which is not in everyone's ken), but I don't think Sense 4 is all that bad, so I commend them from removing their heavy hand at least compared to v. 3....
But without a doubt, the most greed-centric of this triad, T-Mobile, (while not a manufacturer, certainly has a few employees who can code I am sure), unilaterally directs, controls, or otherwise ordains that either HTC or another third party to integrate the above described software which has the sole purpose to create an unremoveable advertisement on your phone. This software therefore restricts, limits, egregiously impedes and restrains you from removing ~750MB from a phone which they marketed as having almost 30% more internal RAM then reality thereby duping the unenlightened masses from having full functionality of the phone they just spent $600 on.
Yeah.... You are right good sir!! T-Mobile is only a carrier... They would never try to make it difficult for a user to remove a component from the phone that only brings them value...you know such as their voicemail and visual voicemail.
I just must be a conspiracy nut.
P.S. My phone is rooted.

Well the rant has its foundations in a valid customer complaint...you just happen to trigger it. I like TMO, as they by and large area more hacker friendly and usually their plan prices + things like Wi-Fi calling raise them far above their competitors. But it is with 100% certainty that they read these boards and know we are above average customers... Who love the hardware but appreciate them just the same. Would it be unreasonable (I am serious... Is this just too honest for a carrier to do?) To have them offer a clean Sense only version for $60 more? I didn't run the math, but it would allow them to (i) expose a practice their customers hate but that all carriers take part in for purposes of revenue generation, (II) give customers the option of getting a "better" phone without these space-stealing, CPU-hogging apps or services and still make the money up on the front end?
I know why they might be disinclined... Because it would draw focus to the fact that--just like IE in Windows NT, they would be sharing on thin ice by forcing users to use it even tolerate these apps. This in turn would expose all carriers to the scrutiny of the public (and maybe even draw official inquiries) on these issues forcing them to probably remove them, however, they would have little justification for raising the price (if they were forced to stop this practice I mean).
They all got into a little hot water over CarrierIQ, and overall, they are pushing it again with these flagrant "value-added" non-removable (and possibly illegal) pieces of software..simply for revenue at the expense of the customer; it's really a bad business practice. If they had any integrity, they would continue to act pro-customer as they have been (comparatively) thus far and try to make the word "carrier" not such an offensive one.. in other words, be different. Stop doing it, and advertise that they have stopped. Tell the truth.

Well, the did allow HTC to retain the "disable" on most of the bloat, so all we're really talking about here is Carrier IQ, pushing their own voicemail service and a few other little items...I'd say pretty good compared to the red themed monstrosities I used to get from Verizon.
Hey I need some advice I have a HTC One V CDMA 4.0.3 rooted none of the OTA patches through Cricket,
Last 2 months 3 or 4 times a week I dial someone's number from my phone book and it will ring like normal but all of a sudden I will start hearing a lady's voice she will say random stuff then she will pause and like usual I will ask who she is and why she is doing this to me she will start laughing and then state "I know you better than you know your self" she will then pause and wait then start talking about things that have gone on in my house that only me my wife and my children know about... I'm really upset and cricket isn't helping me and I am at the point where I am really concerned.
If anyone has any ideas please share I am at wits end and my computer is down so I can't access anything online except for on my phone.
Thanks

When did this start occuring? Was it after you downloaded a specific application? Have you ever left your phone unattended? Since you have a CDMA phone, it is extremely difficult to clone your phone compared to a GSM phone, since you do not have a SIM card in your device. If you can find the suspect app and remove it, it should take care of your problems, however, I would recommend getting a new device since it sounds like your device has already been compromised.
I would contact the authorities immediately. If you're in the US, it's probable the FBI will get involved as that would probably fall under the category of wiretapping, which holds serious federal penalties.
I've never left my phone unattended I always keep it with me even at night I'm disabled and have to be able to get to a phone at all times.
I agree I should get a new handset I was hoping to be able to ride this out until the end of the month.
I've tried contacting local authorities they didn't seem to understand or grasp the concept of what was going on.
As for the app idea I may get try that and see if it does it any more I do have a packet tracer app I might run it and see if it shows any weird activity from certain apps.
If worse comes to worse I'll contact a friend of mine who I went to school with he is a fbi agent and see what he says... I'm a old school hacker of sorts if I had stable wifi and a working pc and could VPN through my pc and run a sniffer the whole time I am sure I would be able to figure this out in a snap.
Thanks for the replies.

for the 2nd time in less then 2months, my nexus 5 was friggin stolen today. The first time, while i was pretty upset, I turned it into a positive, cause I wanted the White one in the first place, and I ended up being able ot get a brand new white one as a replacement. but this time, I am sooooo damn pissed. My replacement (another 100$ later) will be here in 3-5days, and this time, I am like chaining that thing to me.
My damn GF left it sitting at the table in McDonalds. She was supposed to grab our stuff, while I put our garbage in the bin and went and started the car, about 5min after leaving, i asked for my phone....no phone, turn around go back, NO PHONE !
And at least last time I had my LG G2 as a backup phone so I had something nice to use while I waited for a replacement. But I since have sold the G2, and all I ahve is a Verizon Galaxy S3, which doesn't help me at all cause my Verizon account was closed back when the Nexus 5 came out cause I wanted that phone so bad, that I switched to T-Mobile. So now I got nothing but hte home phone, which today was the first time I've used a home phone in years, it was kinda weird lol.
Anyways, obviously this isn't a question or anything, and I apologize to the Mods for that, but this is the only site in which I can talk about what happened and have people know my pain, and I needed to vent, cause twice in less then 60 days is friggin BS to the 10th power. I've never lost a phone or had one stolen or even had to file a claim for phone insurance, in all the years of owning phones, which I am going on 10years (first phone when i was 17, and am 27 now)....I swear ! if someone takes my next Nexus 5, I am going postal up in whatever place it was that I had it taken from. lol
Sorry to hear about this, very unfortunate. Any luck tracking the device using the find my phone feature? Clutch your new phones tightly folks.
Damn man.. I feel for you. That sucks big time I would be so pissed if my gf left my phone at McDonalds lol. Hopefully you have better luck on the next one mate!
By the way, prepare for some random douche coming in to be an ass to you for posting this story
Dang. That sucks dude. I got mugged for my HTC one a couple weeks ago. Couldn't afford to buy another so went with the nexus 5. No brained really. This phone is awesome. Not missing the one too much. I gotta tell you tho. At least you lost it and didn't get a knife or worse pulled out. For future reference kit Kat has location always on. Even with the low accuracy setting, you should be able to find it with lookout if installed but I highly recommend android device manager. You'll find it in the play store.

damn. I am assuming you weren't able to use a FIND MY PHONE type app either ? My T-Mobile protection plan comes with a premium account for Lookout mobile, which when it works is great, but if they take out the simcard and reset it, before you can locate it, its useless. Last time, i wasn't able to do it either, but that was cause like 2 hours before it got jacked I had just factory reset/wiped system, to install a test build of a ROM I've been working on (first ROM I've done that wasn't based of CM or AOSPA, building this one straight from stock AOSP source, just like the Nexus stock firmware is. And adding my own features instead of using others. Tho I did add Halo, cause i love that feature lol as well as app bar, which works in tandem if you set it up right. But enough OT lol) So yea, since I had just flashed that, and was test driving it, didn't have Device Manager or Lookout installed. This time, it just didn't work.
I am really sorry to hear that happened to you bro. I remember back when FIND MY PHONE apps were first becoming relevant, this dude here in Seattle was mugged and they took his iPhone 3G (think it was the 3GS actually) and he had the official iPhone one (which is through iCloud now, I have it for my iPad AIR, which OT again, is my first iOS device since my 4th Gen iPod touch, and I will never be an iPhone guy, but I am loving the iPad. I want that damn 12.1 Note Pro tho lol) and he was able to get the GPS data (which was all that it did back then, as well as Wipe, the Scream feature, and Lock, didn't have signal flare or Lock Cam, etc etc, like we do now) and he gave it to the SPD, and they were able to track it back to both suspects, retrieve the phone, all the money minus 12.59$ and the rest of the wallet contents as well as his jewelry. that was the incident that made the popularity of those apps take off, while also showing the need for such apps, and the need for better refinement of their functionality etc etc.
They need to find a way around people being able to shut it off. There has to be some type of feature that makes it so there is absolutely no way for them to take wipe the phone without A.) the password, which already exists as a feature B.) a special docking device or Computer USB cable that enables the Wipe feature (albeit, this could be bypassed via custom recovery I guess) and finally C.) bringing it to the phones carrier and proving ownership, etc etc. The simcard being removed should have nothing to do with it. But apparently removing that, and wiping the device negates the whole purpose of that feature. So what can you really do.
People are dumb, Steal a phone and within seconds you can wipe and remove simcard, and then the only thing the owner can do is report it and blacklist it, which even then can be gone around if you know how to use the proper JTAG device or if you plan on selling it, or using it, overseas. cause their blacklists obviously don't coincide with our's here in the US. I personally had a friend who legitimately bought an S4 for T-Mobile, and then the dude (this was through craigslist, another reason why swappa is better, so there is accountability at least and proof of purchase and authorized sale of said device) reported the device lost or stolen within minutes of the sale. So he gets the money, and a replacement phone and my buddy is screwed. But he found someone with a JTAG device that rewrote the IMEI (WHICH I do not condone, and is actually ILLEGAL, only mentioning it as part of this topic) and he is still using it on T-Mobile today.
How did you get a replacement? Was it from Google?

Just checked my email, and found two things that made me even more upset about this. First one was a notification of a PM here on XDA from the Dev's of Nameless ROM, responding to my request to be a Mainter for the Nexus 5 version of their ROM. which I've been wanting to do for awhile now, to help learn more about Development while also giving back to the community in whatever way I can until I finish my own ROM and App.
Second, was an Email from someone who must of seen my request on Google+, about getting an Invite to the new Aviate Launcher beta, which I've been intrigued by for quite sometime, and finally got my invite code. No phone to use it on. I have an S3 from my Verizon days, that I keep for backup, but pointless sine I dont have verizon now, and for the life of me can't find the battery for haha. Hopefully my friend can find the T-Mobile version of the S3 he has, and said I could use til my replacement got back .I always liked the S3, and my S4,. and especially my Note 3 (want that damn 12.1 Note Pro...already said thta tho haha) the only thing I liked better was the Nexus 5. The G2 would be my 2nd fave if it wasn't for that damn UI of theirs which is a obvious kang of TouchWiz, but dont wrong, and bloated up even more so. Which TouchWiz is already pretty damn heavy and resource hungry, well from time with the G2 as secondary device before giving it to one of my bandmates, I can tell you, it is bogged down soooooo much. That UI is holding that device back from being an top 5 android phone. But that camera is one of the best. Which reminds me of how much I want the 1020 or 1520 to come out on T-Mobile, cause I want that camera and I also want to try out a WP, but all the ones on T-Mobile are crap. Anyways......Stupid theives, ruinned my day. I wanna try AVIATE so bad.
Guess I can give invites now, so if anyone wants one , post here and let me know and your wish shall be granted......if you post a video of you doing a double backflip and saying my username 3 times fast.....haha, that would make this day better for me too

When I got mugged I wasn't using any of the find my phone apps. I feel like I use them now out of paranoia but I don't feel 100% secure. Is it the best best? I think so. The device manager is good when couples with kit Kat. The best iv seen so far. As you can imagine, when I picked up my n5 I simulated the device being stollen. I had my girlfriend take the phone for a walk. She powered it off. Then on. It gave me her location for both moments and I had the option to wipe. Will I find my phone? Probably not but its better than being paranoid. I wish there was a way to activate tracking regardless of phone on or off or reset. It should be a system setting that locks the feature in once you report it lost or stolen. If the NSA can do it. Why can't we?

No, I go through T-mobile for service, but my friend had an upgrade he wasn't going to use, cause he has the HTC One Max that he bought outright and doesn't wanna change anytime soon (plus he owed me money) so he let me use it, and I got the White Nexus 5 for 49.99$ so technically I still have a claim (still good for a lil over 30 days, they give you 60days to pay teh deductible once the claim is approved) that I can use to get one. That deductible is 90$ (when I lost my Note 3, OMG they wanted like 175$) so I can get two Nexus 5's. So this time, I believe I will pay both deductibles when i get paid next week, then sell both, buy a 32GB white one from Google, and then use the rest too pay that months bill on T-mobile !
Then if it happens again, I am gonna be pissed, cause I don't think I will be able to file another claim. Don't even know if sprint or T-mobile or AT&T etc etc, offer insurance if you buy the phone from Google instead of them. Which is a good question, if anyone happens to know the answer to it, please let me know. Or else I will google it, and I don't wanna google it, cause I am in the midst of a 40day 40day, vow of no-googlesearch. Not joking. I've always been pretty good at comprehension, reading and vocabulary skills (music being my main skill, since it was a skill my parents and family nurtured from a young age. Played my first guitar solo back when the guitar was still taller then me lol) And my parents always made me look things up when i asked what a word meant extra, but now google has made us, especially me, lazy. So i wanna prove that I can still function intelligently without using Google to answer unknown questions, by instead researching by talking to people experience in whatever subject etc etc. This may sound so dumb to many of you, but I think it's a good idea to do at least once after being the first generation raised on the Internet (I am 27 and I've had an email since I was 10yrs old lol)
OT - (not that this whole thing has not become OT, I am just so damn bored without my phone right now, homealone for the night, GF at work, and no band pratice, this is normally phone mod and/or dev time, but I need my phone for that, tho i could do some work on my App without it, but that makes me sad right now, cause i want my phone haha)......ANYWAYS - I've yet to meet a single other musician, let alone, a Guitarist, on this Site and I've been a member since 2011. If anyone who see's this is a Musician, especially a Guitarist and Producer/Engineer (just graduated Music School, Music Production/Audio Engineering & Music Theory/General Music) say wats up in here, and let me know I am not the only Musician who's a closet tech/android/computer geek lol

If anyone who see's this is a Musician, especially a Guitarist and Producer/Engineer (just graduated Music School, Music Production/Audio Engineering & Music Theory/General Music) say wats up in here, and let me know I am not the only Musician who's a closet tech/android/computer geek lol

I'm also a musician/guitarist/vocalist/percussionist/pianist that dabbles in sound engineering. I'm not going to school for that sort of thing, but it's still a huge chunk of my life, and I also spend a lot of time messing around with Android.
You know what I just realized? Girlfriends and nexus devices don't mix. My girlfriend stepped on my N7 and shattered the digitizer. LCD is still good tho. This was about a month ago. I'll replace it myself. Just too busy with my N5

Device Manager comes enabled by default. You should be able to log into your google account and find the location or lock or wipe the phone from your pc. Just google Device Manager
Look into the app called Cerberus.

Flash the hidden version from the following link via a custom recovery:

It'll survive a factory reset, email you the info from any unauthorized SIM card someone puts into it (including the phone number, service provider, & subscriber ID), and as long as the phone has service you can still control it (lock it with a pin, ...) through text messages (no internet connection required).
Also, the paid license is valid for up to 4 (maybe 5) devices. I have it installed on my girlfriend's, brother's, mother's, and my phone. As far as those apps go, it's the best I've found.
Better luck in the future

Don't mean to sound rude, and it's harsh it went missing, but why did you 1. Leave your phone on the table in a public space, and 2. rely on your girlfriend to pick it up? My phone is in my pocket unless it's in my hand or on my work desk. I would never leave it in the open for anyone to take. Maybe I'm just less trusting of those around me but at least you're insurance covered things to an extent. Lesson learnt (I hope)
Same thought here, why would you ever leave your device on the table ? I´m not paranoid, I use a antitheft app just in case I somehow manage to lose my device.
What also seems to help against muggers or similar bad dudes is a rather "ugly" or very plain and simple looking case. A Spigen Slim Armor "smooth black" is a nice case but it also makes your phone look from far away as being a cheap, generic smartphone

[RECENTLY OVERHEARD CONVERSATION IN TIMES SQUARE]
A: Can I borrow your phone?
B: Where's yours?
A: I left it on the table in Starbucks for one second, turned around, and it was gone.
B: Hahahahahahahahahahaha!
A: I only took two steps away!
B: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
A: Shut up!
B: HAHAHA! You freakin' idiot! HAHAHA!
@Silicon Knight - just out of curiosity, did you contact the McD management to see if their cameras picked up anything? If they are unwilling to discuss, file a police report (if you haven't already done so), and get them to review their recordings
I feel like the average person stealing a phone would not know about android device manager and you could track it.
Ps: This isn't Q&A, Help, and troubleshooting problem.
