Hi,
Something very strange happened to my DHD. Out of nowhere my reception went dead with no signal. I've changed the SIM card and tried another provider, but this did not get me a signal at all. I've flashed the newest radio (17th of Jan) - same thing. I did wipe (without data) of Android Revolution HD 2.0.7 and still no change. Now I'm back on 12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2 and will perform a full wipe, although I don't think that this will fix my mobile service... Any ideas?
edit: No, full wipe didn't help...Does this mean that my radio module is piece of junk now?
I really don't know what could have happened to your radio module. I'd flash the latest WWE Radio again, turn off the phone and remove the battery. Let it cool down for some time and then try again. Sometimes this trick does miracles
You could try running the ruu .exe 1.32.405.6 Rom and return to stock if it still does not work at least you half way to returning to stock for warranty purpose

Nope, removing the battery didn't help. Thanks for the hint anyway.
Yes, I'll revert to RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_ 26.04.02.17_M2_release and return it with the statement that I've applied the HTC OTA update...this should work.

Yeah as long as it wasn't branded phone and remember to change the cid to the correct one and apply s-on

Stupid question, but the battery and sim covers have connectors to the antenai on them, there is nothing blocking this contact is there?
Edit: probably should be posted in the general or q+a section too
The cover is on. However, it does work when it's not covered...used to work at least.
Anyways, yes, wrong section...I'm not sure how to move it.
are the covers damaged in any way? you could also try using a lint free cloth to ensure the connectors arn't dirty or anything or test someone elses cover on the device if you know anybody with one... if your anything like me, sending your phone in for service is like having your arm chopped off!

I see that the Revolution HD 2.0.7 has been removed. Maybe try roll back to 2.0.6?
The problem is half fixed...It seems that the GSM module has crapped the two different SIM chips (2 different providers). I just put a brand new SIM card and it was working for half a minute, now this one is dead too. I'm not sure what is causing the defection...shouldn't be the OC, huh? I'll full wipe with no OC before I plug my next card.
Might be a hardware fault, could you check if those cards work on other phones? I think that the phone might simply provide too much voltage for the sim, thus frying it.

I've tried them on other devices and they are not working. I'm also thinking that the cards are fried by the DHD.
Do a search on this topic, as far as I remember (it's a lil bit shady) I think there was another person that their DHD was frying SIMs, and he had to return and exchange it...

I traded in my first Inspire for a replacement after the GPS started working less reliably after a couple weeks.
Now, a couple weeks into owning this one, I am (frustratingly) experiencing weird problems again.
Yesterday I tried using the GPS to navigate to a club in Baltimore... On the way down, I never got a solid gps lock in navigation. And, oddly enough, on the way back home, the lock was rock solid all the way.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a defect with the Inspire itself, even though I haven't heard of many people having the same problems. The only "weird" thing I do with my GPS is use c:geo, a geocaching application... I'm wondering if this somehow tampers with GPS settings and starts to affect the gps tracking itself?
I do not use a case. I have not rooted or flashed the phone (nor did I on the previous model).. I really can't think about much else that I might be doing that coudl be affecting the gps.
Anyone have any ideas?

Go into your settings, location and then uncheck "use wireless networks". Try that and see how it works.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I will try this later, but I hesitate to say that'd be the problem, when GPS test was only pulling 3-4 satellites earlier today. (under normal conditions it will get twice that easily after a few seconds).
I feel like if this hardware problem was this widespread (that an entire generation of GPS' started going bad on the inspires) more people would be talking about it... And yet I see very little discussion of this happening. Are people just not using their GPS' that much? lol
In my ecperience not all Roms have the greatest GPS for whatever reason.
Use various ones, the one in my signature is a good place to start.

As I said in the OP, I am not even rooted. Using the stock ROM.
Never mind. Re read the op....
Sent from Desire HD or Inspire 4G or whatever this thing is called via premium XDA app.
Intermittent quality all the way home from work, even with "use wireless networks" turned off. By the end of the trip it could no longer hold a lock.
So frustrating. I would return this one, but for what? Another couple weeks and I'll be having the same problems.
Welp, rooted and flashed last night to Stock ROM Optimized, flashed LeeDroid 2.2.2. Kernel, applied this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997647, and I still couldn't get a strong lock on the way to work today.
This is baffling to me. I guess I just won't be using the Inspire's GPS a whole lot, which is a shame, because it's a perfect phone otherwise.

I have this exact same setup on my phone, same Rom, same kernel, and my gps didnt work. I reflashed the stock radio and now i get a lock in under 3 seconds. Give that a try.
Almost forgot I used THIS method to flash the radio, if that matters...
*BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS PROCESS YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE WITH A CORRUPT RADIO.IMG*
To flash a radio using hboot with radio S-OFF you can simply take the zip file PD98IMG.zip from the hack kit (Thanks ATTN1) and remove the radio.img file from it using winrar or 7zip, and put a new radio.img from elsewhere in the zip named radio.img and using store (NO) compression. Make sure it is named exactly PD98IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard. Reboot your phone into hboot and the new radio will prompt you to load. Press volume up on the phone and it will load automatically and ask you to press power to reboot.

Since your flashing the stock radio no need to take any radio.img file out or put a new one in, just simply flash the PD98IMG.zip in hboot

What did you use before the Stock Rom Optimized (and leedroid kernel)? I came straight from stock, and was already having problems so... hmph.

I ran alot of other roms, and noone of them were working for me, never got around to trying anything to fix it until i came across someone who reflashed the radio and it worked using the Stock Optomized rom in the thread, so figured id give it a try low and behold it worked for me as well.
Re-flashed the radio last night, don't think it made much of a difference.
Navigation to work today was spotty... Hanging at spots, and never getting a very solid lock (the circle around the little blue arrow would remain probably 20-30 meters large or more). When viewing GPS status I'll usually be anywhere from 4-8 satellites.
I dunno... maybe I'm expecting too much? It has been cloudy/rainy here the past few days, and maybe that's just really affecting it.
I just know that when I first got this phone (and the last one) I'd have strong locks very quickly that would stay strong for the majority of the trip... And it never seemed very weather dependant. *shrugs*
Be happy you get a GPS lock lol, i owned the Captivate for about 5 months and got 1 lock the entire time mo matter what fixes i tried, and the 1 lock was the day i got it.

Yeah, I guess inconsistently functional is better than nothing. I just don't get why I'm having these problems, when most Inspire owners seem to have perfect GPS still.
I might try trading in for ONE MORE model, just to see what happens... HTC's warranty should cover me for 9 months, right?

Your guarantee from AT&T itself is 30 days exchange for anything policy regardless. Trade it in for a different phone or another Inspire.
Just make sure you follow the back to stock flashing instructions in development thread before you take it in just in case they want to be assholes about you having alternate software running.
You should try GPS Status from the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result
It downloads new AGPS info like once a day if you want it to and has quickened up my fixes a whole bunch. I would try D/L'ing the app, clearing the exsisting AGPS data through the app, and D/L'ing the data new.
Faster fix from the market works awesome to and always fixs my gps after a new rom install .

basilcallly tells to apply a signed ROM . But can you please advise which ROM would solve my wi-fi issue. and how to apply that?
Thanks in advance
I also had similar issue when I flashed the original recovery to remove the rooting and clock work mod...
Now if u have the original recovery installed...flash the OTA updates through it and if you don't have the OTA you need to flash the original ROM
After the flashing ur wifi will work normal
hello,
actually I am so new to the stuf. I havent applied any updates to the device, but I guesss it has been s-off ed and applied a different ROM before it has been sold to my friend in USA. Now, which exact ROM would you suggest me to flash and actually where I can find it and read the how to ?.
Thanks
after stock and root i was on Revolution 3.6.1 and now i am using S3N5EaY v 1.4.0 -> agree .. its very smooth - fast and looks great. but still the most important thing is : battery life.. so before i had to charge 2 times a day on hard-use.
theres no need anymore at the moment ;-)
try out by yaself..

Ello m8,
It appears your in the same boat as me, i have the wifi error too, it doesn't even turn on to be able to see networks, let alone connect to them so it's quite horrible.
What i've done:
Flashed pretty much every rom i possibly could. (old ones, new ones, no effect)
Changed the recovery to 4ext (which works great but didn't help)
Changed kernels (a lot)
Changed Radios and RIL files (a lot)
Flashed an official RUU (no effect at all)
Went back to S-ON as described in the tutorial on the main xda sensation guide, then S-OFF'd again.
I'm now back on P3D v 8 and it's running lovely but alas, still no wifi.
I've changed the back cover (the yellow connectors at the top have something to do with the wifi) Don't mess around with these as you may break something, changing the case had no effect, apparently the wifi still connects without the back cover on the phone.
I am literally at my wits end with this and i got my phone for free from my work and i was only supposed to have had it for a while (4 months) so if i say it's broke, they may take it back and i've lost the phone completely, if that wasn't the case then i would have sent it back after i'd tried everything software wise i could think of.
I'm not saying that you are in the same situation exactly but if you are then it looks bleak and i would say anything next to removing the wifi chip and replacing it would mean the wifi will never work, plus tutorials for replacing the wifi on a sensation are scarce to say the least (torque screwdrivers at the ready)
If i get it working i'll let you know how, please do the same if you get any joy.
Oh i almost forgot, another thread on another site they mention using an app called wefi, i didn't have any luck but you might.
Good luck matey Hope you have more than i did.
Hi,
I am having the same issue.
Have been running android revolution HD 3.6.5. by mike1986 and previous versions of it (2, 3) and no issues with the WiFi, as one day it just started (yesterday to be precise). I did not install anything or played with settings that could mess with the wi-fi. One day ago was working ok and the next not.
Tried the Wefi app but it did not help either.
feeling hopeless...

Looks like this error is more common than it would first have appeared, read my post a few up for what i've tried, i even feel like dropping it if it's something inside so as to knock it back into place, but i haven't yet Lol that's desperation.
I've got an appointment with HTC soon and i'm getting it changed, if anyone gets this sorted then let me know as i'd rather keep my phone.

Hi,
I also tried all you tried and no results.
Changed the case with a friends phone but did not help either.
After a lot of reading through the forums did a logcat to see what the hack the phone is saying about this error and it seems it cannot load the driver.
If it helps smb to go deeper can post it.
Gave a thought or two about knocking it against the wall or throw it from the window but after-all, i think i can live for some time without wifi, my GPRS speed is not bad and maybe soon will be having 3G and during work time can use internet pass-through.
Worst case scenario, will sell it and get EDGE the new quad-core monster HTC will be releasing next year Q1 or early Q2.

Dude I got the same problem and I did the same procedure so far but same results as well.
I am just wondering if you got any better results for this issue.
Thanks
Same problem, bad results...
I had the same problem. Both my Bluetooth and WiFi would get stuck on "turning on" but never did, I flashed so many ROMs and Kernels, Tried RUU's from Europe,Asia, and USA and nothing worked. SO I CALLED HTC...thankfully I was still under warranty (It's a 12 month warranty) and shipped my phone away after flashing the latest official T-Mobile RUU, Un-Rooting, and going back to S-ON. It's been a week...I called and they said THE MOTHERBOARD needed to be replaced, which I think is the "default fix" if they can't solve the issue. So hopefully in a week I'll have my phone back...Best of Luck...don't mean to be a Debby Downer but I tried EVERYTHING. Give em a call, it won't hurt to try.
My Sensation was acting up and getting slow (probably because of all the apps I had installed) so I decided to do a factory reset and after rebooting the phone, I was no longer getting service/signal. Also, when I got into Settings, the Mobile Data is greyed out and cannot be toggled. Basically I have a phone right now that doesn't work and I need help. I found something saying may have something to do with the contact points on the back cover but they're all fine when I checked.
My phone right now as it is:
S-off, Android 2.3.4, Sense 3.0 = pretty much stock
If anybody knows a fix for this please help or if there is an existing thread already, a link to that would be nice.
Thank all for checking this issue and for you future any help you can give me. I'd appreciate them.

try rebooting to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik. If that doesnt work reflash your rom.
No luck still
I followed what you said but the problem still persists. This really sucks. I'm back to my nokia N8 for the mean time. I miss my android already.
This happened to me when I was flashing a rom. I ended up trying everything but my apn settings were always greyed out and I would get no service as well. I had to wipe all data and perform a factory reset. Then after then reflashed my rom and checked my apn settings to see if I could access them, and when I was able to, I knew I was good.

Sad to say, I've done that as well. I tried flashing different roms and tried a different radio also but none of these fixed the problem. At this point I'm all back to stock ROM and radio and pretty much waiting for a suggestion that I haven't tried. I appreciate the help.

Make sure you are on a stock kernel as well. And if you reverted back to your stock setup, then the ril should correspond to your radio. Check the ril/radio combo and also make sure your kernel is stock as well.
I'm having the same issue. I've reverted everything back to stock (unrooted, original CID, S-On) and gotten a new SIM card (T-Mobile). I've tried different Radios w/ matching RILs, different ROMs, adjusting APN settings, everything that I can think of, but I can't restore mobile network connectivity (cellular service & data). At this point, I'm beginning to think it is a hardware fault, but I really have nothing to back it up except for the fact that *nothing* else solves my problem. I've even used the dialer code to toggle the radio on and off, with & without ciphering. About to pull my hair out and pay for HTC to replace the mainboard. Any other suggestions are welcome.
I agree with you, this may well be a hardware issue. I finally gave up and went to T-Mo to arrange a handset exchange. I was sure that there has got to be somebody else with the same issue and here you are. If this is software-related though, I could say that I have tried everything I could think of, along with a few suggestions that I got but I haven't had luck with this bad boy. But yeah, it's got to be hardware-related. My reason, you know when you don't have a sim card in? When you go into settings, the "Mobile Networks" where you can adjust the APN settings is greyed out (missing sim card = hardware). Now, as for the "Mobile Network" toggle that is greyed out, that could mean antenna issues maybe since no antenna = no signal? In that case, there is nothing to toggle. I've been having almost sleepless nights with this. LOL
Have you checked the APN settings... Not sure that it would grey out the option but should definitely be checked
Here's something that will mess with your head. The reason I believe it's is *not* the sim-reader is because if I go into Phone Info, under Phone Identity, I can read my phone number off the sim card. I can also read contacts & messages stored on that card. So the phone *is* communicating with the SIM chip... It just won't communicate with the network. If the antenna wasn't built into the battery covery, I would be tempted to believe that the antenna was disconnected from the board internally. Then again, I get wifi, bluetooth, & GPS just fine. Who knows?
Yes, I have checked and APN settings and even used something from an HTC tech but it didn't work.
I had this same issue with a Sensation I got off Craigslist, the mobile data was grayed out and no matter what I do it didn't work.
End up sending to HTC and they fix it under warranty, they go my serial number so I wan't required to have a receipt when the phone was sent.
If all hope is lost, you can send it back for repairs like i did.
Wipe system from recovery?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
@cmarti
Did they ever say what was wrong with it? Was it hardware or software related? I talk to HTC about repairs already and I have the details on how to proceed but like you said, that would be the last resort. I was able to arrange a handset exchange from t-mobile and I have this entire week to wait for any development on that matter. I just sucks though that we don't know what is really wrong and I'm sure there are more users out there having or have had the same issue and are still left in the dark.
@mintaeroboy
I have done what you suggested already and that didn't fix the issue. Thanks.
Do u have a system backup u can restore?
Yes, I do. I have the stock as my very first backup and I restored using it but the problem is still there.
weird, did u try pull & put the sim card back in? or go to a tmob store & have them replace the sim card...
Did you try downloading the RUU and flashing the complete stock ROM that way? Download the 1.45 RUU for TMOUS (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13698101&postcount=1) and run the program. It restores everything to right out of the factory, but it's different than restoring a backup or doing a factory reset. This re-partitions everything and resets the bootloader security. Don't worry, the s-off tool from revolution still works if you flash the RUU. I know because I did it myself
Hope this works for you. It's a better option to try before you send it off to HTC.
Let me know what happens.

Yes I did. I don't think it is the sim card though because I put mine back to my nokia n8 and it worked. I also borrowed my niece's and put it in the Sensation but could not get a signal, just like how it is with mine. For these reasons, I ruled out the sim card being the suspect.

Yes Jimmah, I did that last night using the exact RUU you suggested and no luck of a resolution still. Kernel, radio, rom, ril, etc are all just like new from factory and still scratching my head, in fact for a few days now. hahaha
hi. i've a beautiful htc one s black. i've unlocked and rooted the phone and flashed the viperones rom after the update to 2.31. yesterday i noticed that the vibration doesn't work. or better, work sometimes!! doesn't work both the softkeys that vibration on call. i think that the only solution is assistance (fu*k!). have you others solutions??
Try the hard reset and other roms, 2.21 based. Don't change the kernel... For me, the vibration works all time, strange too...

it's only a my problem. nobody that has flashed the viper rom has this problem....
has the phone been exposed to any kind of moisture? sweat? rain? anything? i run into this all the time at my job. 9 times out of 10 it's a small amount of corrosion built up on the connection to the motherboard. but it could also be a factory defect that has just recently surfaced and even though it's rooted, since it is a hardware issue (most likely) htc will still warranty it

if you have any experience with hardware repairs on cell phones, you could attempt to disassemble the phone and check the connections for corrosion, damage, etc. if you do, post a picture of the motherboard and a close up of the vibrate connections

no no no. i don't have any experience in disassemble the phone... but the strange thing is that I turned off my phone and it worked, when I turned on no longer worked.
Try flashing a custom kernel. It sounds like it might be software related

i tried with the fusion ultimate 2.1 and the viper 'stock'. the problem persist.... :crying:
Then it sounds like hardware to me. You might wanna find a reputable cell phone repair store in your area and let them check it out

I changed my display today and can't get the damn phone to pick up the AT&T signal. i completely wiped and installed the 6.10 (3.0 kernel) nightly with gapps and 3.18 radio, and nothing i do will get the damn thing to get a signal
can someone pull their sim card, reboot and tell me if the signal still says 0db with no sim card installed?
I'm losing my mind with this phone, every time i fix something something else breaks
LOSING IT
Chances are you've broken/disconnected something while inside the phone.

Chances as in.. 98%ish chances
Pull it apart again and look, only way I know to find out for sure. My guess would be you screwed the antenna up. Anything else not work? WiFi? GPS?

Second what everyone else said. I had to take my phone apart two EXTRA times after replacing my LCD, one to reconnect an antenna I didn't fully seat (it might even LOOK connected, but not be), and the second time to fix the camera (same). Ain't easy bud.
