I traded in my first Inspire for a replacement after the GPS started working less reliably after a couple weeks.
Now, a couple weeks into owning this one, I am (frustratingly) experiencing weird problems again.
Yesterday I tried using the GPS to navigate to a club in Baltimore... On the way down, I never got a solid gps lock in navigation. And, oddly enough, on the way back home, the lock was rock solid all the way.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a defect with the Inspire itself, even though I haven't heard of many people having the same problems. The only "weird" thing I do with my GPS is use c:geo, a geocaching application... I'm wondering if this somehow tampers with GPS settings and starts to affect the gps tracking itself?
I do not use a case. I have not rooted or flashed the phone (nor did I on the previous model).. I really can't think about much else that I might be doing that coudl be affecting the gps.
Anyone have any ideas?

Go into your settings, location and then uncheck "use wireless networks". Try that and see how it works.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I will try this later, but I hesitate to say that'd be the problem, when GPS test was only pulling 3-4 satellites earlier today. (under normal conditions it will get twice that easily after a few seconds).
I feel like if this hardware problem was this widespread (that an entire generation of GPS' started going bad on the inspires) more people would be talking about it... And yet I see very little discussion of this happening. Are people just not using their GPS' that much? lol
In my ecperience not all Roms have the greatest GPS for whatever reason.
Use various ones, the one in my signature is a good place to start.

As I said in the OP, I am not even rooted. Using the stock ROM.
Never mind. Re read the op....
Sent from Desire HD or Inspire 4G or whatever this thing is called via premium XDA app.
Intermittent quality all the way home from work, even with "use wireless networks" turned off. By the end of the trip it could no longer hold a lock.
So frustrating. I would return this one, but for what? Another couple weeks and I'll be having the same problems.
Welp, rooted and flashed last night to Stock ROM Optimized, flashed LeeDroid 2.2.2. Kernel, applied this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997647, and I still couldn't get a strong lock on the way to work today.
This is baffling to me. I guess I just won't be using the Inspire's GPS a whole lot, which is a shame, because it's a perfect phone otherwise.

I have this exact same setup on my phone, same Rom, same kernel, and my gps didnt work. I reflashed the stock radio and now i get a lock in under 3 seconds. Give that a try.
Almost forgot I used THIS method to flash the radio, if that matters...
*BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS PROCESS YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE WITH A CORRUPT RADIO.IMG*
To flash a radio using hboot with radio S-OFF you can simply take the zip file PD98IMG.zip from the hack kit (Thanks ATTN1) and remove the radio.img file from it using winrar or 7zip, and put a new radio.img from elsewhere in the zip named radio.img and using store (NO) compression. Make sure it is named exactly PD98IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard. Reboot your phone into hboot and the new radio will prompt you to load. Press volume up on the phone and it will load automatically and ask you to press power to reboot.

Since your flashing the stock radio no need to take any radio.img file out or put a new one in, just simply flash the PD98IMG.zip in hboot

I ran alot of other roms, and noone of them were working for me, never got around to trying anything to fix it until i came across someone who reflashed the radio and it worked using the Stock Optomized rom in the thread, so figured id give it a try low and behold it worked for me as well.
Re-flashed the radio last night, don't think it made much of a difference.
Navigation to work today was spotty... Hanging at spots, and never getting a very solid lock (the circle around the little blue arrow would remain probably 20-30 meters large or more). When viewing GPS status I'll usually be anywhere from 4-8 satellites.
I dunno... maybe I'm expecting too much? It has been cloudy/rainy here the past few days, and maybe that's just really affecting it.
I just know that when I first got this phone (and the last one) I'd have strong locks very quickly that would stay strong for the majority of the trip... And it never seemed very weather dependant. *shrugs*
Be happy you get a GPS lock lol, i owned the Captivate for about 5 months and got 1 lock the entire time mo matter what fixes i tried, and the 1 lock was the day i got it.

Yeah, I guess inconsistently functional is better than nothing. I just don't get why I'm having these problems, when most Inspire owners seem to have perfect GPS still.
I might try trading in for ONE MORE model, just to see what happens... HTC's warranty should cover me for 9 months, right?

Your guarantee from AT&T itself is 30 days exchange for anything policy regardless. Trade it in for a different phone or another Inspire.
Just make sure you follow the back to stock flashing instructions in development thread before you take it in just in case they want to be assholes about you having alternate software running.
You should try GPS Status from the market.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result
It downloads new AGPS info like once a day if you want it to and has quickened up my fixes a whole bunch. I would try D/L'ing the app, clearing the exsisting AGPS data through the app, and D/L'ing the data new.
Faster fix from the market works awesome to and always fixs my gps after a new rom install .

I have been having issues with getting my GPS to work. I have tried installing the latest Radios and changing roms, wiping and rebooting...all kinds of things and when I try to use the navigate feature in the maps application, it says 'searching for gps...' forever. Any suggestions? What can we do? I know I am not the only one with this issue...
It works but its just been flaky since I went to Eclair/Froyo roms.
Never had any of these issues with the early donut stuff. So I consider it related to that.
No real need for a "think tank" on this subject - the G1 GPS has worked great since the Donut update and last couple radio updates. The problem is more than likely due to using a ROM that was never intended to be used on our G1s.

so are you saying that by using a ROM that was never intended to be used on our G1's that my gps is now broken? Or under that ROM it is unusable ?... Also, is your GPS turn by turn navigation working fine? Mine has not been working for a while now, and I have searched and asked alot and have not been able to fix it with any of the suggestions, so I was hoping by starting this thread we could get a solution or some solutions going...

I suggest to anyone trying to diagnose GPS issues, don't bother for the next couple days...
http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=10/08/02/2028228
Mine was working perfectly on CM5.0.8 but in the past few days it's been locating me several hundred miles from my true position, without any software changes. I think we're just in for a period of noisy signal...
actually i can confirm having similar issues... it seems like the antenna is disconnected or sth... the gps chip seems to be found, no errors on that unlike on a diff. G1 i checked that had it disconnected, which gave me problems there already. also it finds satellites but only up to 3 which is not enough for location correlation... so i guess our problem is a hardware thing... unfortunately
i admit, since moving to eclair and froyo my gps has been very temperamental. It is so undependable, if i leave the house in a hurry i am screwed. I have to leave the gps on for a while to get a lock then i can leave the house.
Mines working perfect. However, if you find yourself constantly needing the use of navigation, then I suggest you go buy an actual GPS. Yes, your phone can DO IT, but it's not the main function of your phone. You shouldn't rely on your phone for an extra function. I usually only result to phone navigation when I need to get somewhere quick and right then and have absolutely no idea where its at or how to even get close to it. I've maybe used it 4 times. Every time I use it, it works perfectly for me.
As lbcoder said, many things can block or interfere with your GPS signal. Have any of you tested somewhere very spacious and open with no buildings or anything? You may be surprised at how much a difference outside can make. Mine generally does ok inside, but works much better outside. This is true for generally everywhere for me.

Is the antennae in place (exposed, like a small shinny screw just left of the sim card)? It’s fathomable the antennae slipped ajar or even fell out, especially if you’ve tinkered at all with it’ guts.

No, it is not exposed. I was thinking the same thing, but the guts have never been messed with.
I was trying to revert it back to stock the other day to see if that would change it, but I could not even find the right donut file to download.
I have the latest radio, I dont know about the SPL though (I will check when im done writing this...) and the ROM that I am currently using is Super F test 2, but I have had this issue with every other ROM...
Maybe there is a ROM or ROM/ Radio/ SPL combination that someone could suggest? (I dont know if that will even work for me though, but thanks in advance)

are you referring to Turn by Turn navigation GPS?
Like I said, get a GPS system. You shouldn't depend on your phone for something like this. You should only depend on your phone to make phone calls.
You can try Donut. If you want to unroot here:
http://tinyurl.com/yenhdpx
Extract that, place on root of sdcard, and boot holding camera. It will detect it and ask you the press send. If you press send, you will start reverting to stock 1.0. Cupcake must be updated through a new recovery.

ok yeah that is what I was talking about, but...you know say in maps, when you get directions then tap on 'navigate' and then it opens 'google navigation' ...that is where I have the GPS problem...it will locate me fine but wont give me turn by turn directions as a true pure GPS device would, it just says "searching for GPS..." forever...even if I leave it over night.
Hey wonderful community!
I am having some serious problems with my GPS. Everything was good until I flashed Android Revolution 3.2 from Android Revo 1.6. Luckily I had a backup so I flashed back to that through clockwork and all was well for a while. Then I got curious about LeeDroid so I flashed that and seemed good but the other night, after confirming a GPS lock the first night I flashed it, couldn't get a signal. I haven't flashed anything since my GPS was working but I still thought it had to be software related. So I flashed my backup expecting it to work just like it did before, but I got nothing. I get AGPS but no actual sats. Even if I leave GPS test open for an hour it never even sees even one satelite, let alone using any. This is on the same rom, same kernel, **** the same backup. So I flashed a few roms, and even did a full factory reset and have had no luck. I searched a couple threads looking for solutions but everything I have tried has not helped at all. Just so you know what I have tried that hasn't worked is as follows: the GPS.zip file thread extracted and pasted into system/xx/xx/hw, reinstalling locations, clearing map data, and installing faster fix.
I know this was a lot to read but I try to help anyone as much as I can and would really appreciate some help on this. LETS PAY IT FORWARD PEOPLE LOL.
Thanks in Advance.
EDIT: Ok so still don't know what the culprit was but with a lot of help from Kirk I redid step 5 from the Hack Kit, which flashes the stock radio, and WOOT WOOT! GPS back to it's mean self.
You need to re-flash the radio. You can flash it using HBOOT.
Try stock rooted and faster fix from the market.

Same issue as laxwillsch...
I am running 3.3 as of 2 hours ago - only issue was GPS. Performance is phenomenal on 3.3. I ran through your instructions. In step 6, mine quickly flashed up the screen that says it couldn't find any files to update, then returned to the HBOOT screen. There was nothing apparently for me to do, so I simply rebooted the device.
Guess what? GPS now works. I am certain the update didn't happen but something did! When I launched Google Maps, I immediately saw the satellite icon. I haven't seen that in awhile... Not waiting on Google Maps, I launched Compass (I like that app) and it locked 7 satellites in a fraction of a second. I returned to Google Maps and it works flawlessly.
My Radio version is 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M.
My speed test performance floats between 3.8 - 2.1 Mbps down and 1656 - 1200 Mbps up...
Thanks again!

Ok did it and it didnt find a radio to flash. I think this is because it is supposed to be renamed to PD98IMG.zip but I could be wrong. I will try that but I don't know if this will help because I actually already get the flashing GPS indicator it just fails to see any sats. Like absolutely none. Even if I keep GPS test up for an hour. It doesn't do anything. I dont understand this because I don't see anyone with the same problem. I think I am just going to exchange it tomorrow because I have a feeling something happened hardware wise because I didn't even flash anything to make this happen. The GPS worked one day and the next it didnt. And I didnt change anything, no themes, no roms, no nothing.

You need to rename the file as stated in my previous reply. Try that before you give up.
If you decide to exchange the phone, make sure you are within the 30 days when you bought it, and also s-off needs to be s-on and then install the stock ROM that came with the phone. Otherwise they will see you tinkered with the phone and altering your phone like that voids the warranty.
EDIT: Are you outside when you are looking for a GPS signal? The phone needs to be outdoors to grab a GPS signal. From what you said about leaving it on for an hour to look for GPS signal, sounds like you are indoors cause I wouldn't wanna stay outside for an hour in cold weather just to look for a GPS signal.

I tried it the way you posted with no avail. Then I just renamed it PD98IMG.zip and it updated this time but still no change. And yes I have been outside and on my deck, both places where I got perfect GPS signal a couple days ago. I really think it is something weird, because I have done everything I could think of software related with no change. I have probably flashed 5-6 roms and it is the same with all of them. I got excited when you suggested the radio but after it not changing anything I got to thinking that I never flashed a radio, I don't even have ENG-S-OFF so it wouldnt really make sense that it is radio related. I am open to more suggestions but I have tried everything I have learned about android in the last year with no avail. My next step is flashing the stock RUU and seeing if that fixes it and if not just taking it back to radio shack. I am over my 30 days but they said they can replace after 30 if the device is defective and I have a screen issue where if I press lightly on the search button it makes a clicking noise and plurs the corner of the LCD. Plus I am getting AGPS but literally my actual GPS is like totally borked. Not seeing any satelites at all, before even inside I would see like 7-9. Something is seriously wrong and I don't even know where to start.

That would be my next suggestion, to flash the stock untouched ROM. Hopefully that makes it work and then you can go from there. Either way, you need to install the stock ROM before you return it.
Also, did the phone show the update completed successfully or did it give an error?

Ya thanks. I can't promise anything though, I will probably be flashing something new tomorrow! Plus I still am a little confused as to why this happened. The last thing I flashed was LeeDroid 2.2.2 and I coulda swore that the GPS got a lock after I flashed because that is one of the first things I always check because it is something I use everyday, but I could be wrong. I've experienced the same thing also when flashing different ROMs. I finally followed the same instructions you followed and works every time for me and for a few others.
A new thread just popped up in the Inspire 4G General section with someone that has the same problem you had.
I'm completely lost. I have tried everything I have found on the forums and nothing had restored my GPS. I've flashed fixes, flashed new radios, new roms, formatted everything and started over with a brand new rom install. Can somebody please help me.

Have you tried using Hboot to flash the radio? Follow the instructions on post 5 in this thread. Might work for you.
I've been using coredroid for a couple months now. GPS worked great all the way up to V6.5. Even used 6.0 for a week or so and it worked great. I've used stock radio with every ROM and never had a problem. I installed coredroid 6.5 and the GPS is dead as a door nail. Gps Status, and GPS Test Plus won't even find a single satellite after 5 minutes standing in my yard with no obstructions. Not a single satellite found, let alone a lock. So I flashed the radio Coredroid recommends for V6.5 and no go. I also tried faster fix with no luck. I then wiped cache partition, formatted data, cache, and system, followed by a dalvik cache wipe, reinstalled coredroid v6.0 which it was working on yesterday, and same thing, doesn't find a single satellite. So I then tried optimized stock rooted which it also worked on that ROM in the past, and now it doesn't. I've done complete wipes between roms, and tried testing GPS BEFORE restoring my titanium backup. Nothing I do seems to work. Can't find one single satellite in clear view of the sky. So Now I'm back to CoreDroid V6.5 since it's not ROM related. Any Ideas?
Try running the RUU to complete stock through the exe file. Not rooted stock, but original shipping stock.

The GPS scrips I tried Earlier
My first one went bad on me about a month ago. Stopped working at all, then worked a little, then stopped again. I did s-on and flashed to stock, then took it to a warranty center and got it replaced. This one works better then my first ever did.

Try re flashing your radio a couple of times in a row I had it happen to me i got no sats too. I thank I did it like 3 or 4 times workes grate now 8 sats in 10 sec. Hope this helps.
O yea i am on the new att radio 12.39a.60.19x_26.06.06.30_M ROM is Di11is 2.0.1
I'm on my second Inspire due to the very some issue you describe. If youre out of the 30 buyers remorse, call ATT's warranty dept @ 800-801-1101 and have them get a replacement on the way. In the mean time, get all your stuff together to return your to stock and root the replacement.
It's worth the hassle to save your sanity from a known issue w/ our phones.

Well, gps still not working. I got this phone on release day in feburary. I did however solve the problem, I went and got Samsung infuse, however I want to get gps working on inspire so I can sell it. Maybe the chip went bad. I went back to stock using the RUU exe method and nothing. This is definitely a hardware failure. Maybe I flashed it to death lol

I understand the issue, my problem is I've never had a issue in the 3 months I've had it. Flashed 20 Roms at least, gps worked great on all of them, but now all of a sudden I get the issue.

Yeah the gps is kinda touchy with this phone. I dorked my gps up a while back and nothing fixed it either. Reflashed the ruu, radios, rerooted and every other maddening thing you can think of. I actually gave up and moved on.Then one day after messing around in the build prop(completely unrelated to the gps) my gps came back up after the 40th reboot in a row. Since then its been fine, really weird.
BTW how you do like the infuse? A friend of mine had to ditch the inspire because the bluetooth would cut out once he put the phone in his pocket, went through 2 phones and headsets.

I think you can clear EFS Data to bring it back. I am not by a computer now but will try to find it for you. It was on the desire z forum.......
If I forget just send me a reminder.

infuse is like a fancy captivate only way smoother. GPS got 11 satellites in under 25 seconds on first try out off the box. Inspire mobile data speeds were always 3.5 down, the infuse is getting 7 on average. Inspire didn't have 2100mhz band, infuse does. Not sure if that matters. But I like it. Rooted it in under 3 minutes. Just one click and superuser appeared.

I am having trouble with the GPS receiver on my phone. I don't think it's an app-specific issue, as I've tried several different apps, including one called GPS Status, and none of them can give me an accurate GPS location anymore.
Brief history: I've used the GPS function before with no problem. Using Google's Map app, it previously worked perfect. I could get a satellite lock almost instantly, and the accuracy was superb. Using the navigation app, I was getting equally superb performance. I have used that app several times over the last 4 months since I've owned the phone.
More history: I rooted it and put a custom ROM on it about a month after getting the phone. I put LeeDroid on it (v2.2.3, IIRC), along with the recommended kernel, and the recommended radio (12.39.60.19x_26.06.04.06_M). The GPS functions worked both before and after the initial flashing of the ROM. I've been on LeeDroid v2.2.3 for about 3 months or so. I took a road trip to Atlanta with my wife, and all of a sudden, the google map app couldn't give me an accurate location. Navigation also wasn't working, so initially I thought there must be something wrong with the updated version of the app. So I uninstalled updates, relaunched the app, still no luck. Thinking perhaps the app was broken, I removed it completely, reinstalled, and still nothing. So, I tried different apps: Mapquest, GPS Status, GPS Tracker, all to no avail. I then rebooted the phone. Again, no dice. Then I disabled the location services, restarted them, and that didn't work either. So I tried a hard reset (pulled battery while phone was powered on). No luck with that, either. Then, I figured perhaps something went wrong with the ROM/Kernel/Radio, etc. (I'm sort of a n00b when it comes to android hacking). So, I figured it wouldn't hurt to update to the latest LeeDroid version, updating the kernel and the radio (probably the most pertinent here is the radio, right?) while I was at it. And then, after all that, GPS STILL won't work right. I even went so far as to delete and restore the location services app itself, to no avail.
My current software is LeeDroid v3.3.1 ROM, LeeDroid v3.2.0 kernel, Radio = 12.39a.60.19x_26.06.06.30_M (the latest radio update from AT&T that I could find). I've also tried the recommended radio from LeeDroid thread, and that didn't help, either.
Could the GPS receiver itself have gone bad? It's strange, the only location data I get inside Google Maps is from the cell towers, which is not accurate at all. I know this, because if I disable "Use wireless networks" under Settings -> Location, I don't get any location at all. And, if wireless networks is on, it's terribly inaccurate, showing me several blocks away from where I really am (standing outside w/ clear line of sight to the sky). Under GPS Status, the status bar just scrolls and scrolls, never giving me a reading or satellite lock.
FYI, most of these tests were done standing outside with clear skies (maybe a few clouds or whatever, but no buildings or trees nearby). A few were done in my car on the road, but that has never hindered my GPS signal/performance before, both on this device, and my previous phone (iPhone 3GS).
I'd take it to an AT&T store, but I'm afraid if the store clerk looks in my phone data, he'll see my software #, realize I've hacked the device, notate my account, and I won't be able to get any warranty support at all. The only thing I can think of is to restore to factory ROM, and then test it and take it in to the store if need be, but I figured I'd give the great folks at XDA forums a shot first, in case you guys have any ideas I haven't thought of yet.
Thanks.
You could try doing a full wipe and re-install as a last resort. But I have read MANY posts in this forum from people who had to return an Inspire because of faulty GPS, so that could very well be your problem.
Thanks for the insight, Jake. I forgot to mention that when I flashed the newer version of LeeDroid I did a full wipe. I didn't wipe Dalvik cache. I'm not sure if that would make any difference. It certainly helps to gain the knowledge that I'm not the only one with this issue...

Thanks guys. I will give that a try today.
Tried the angeldeath GPS fix. No luck. Still no satellite lock. I sat outside (it's pretty clear today) for 10 minutes trying.

If you have a case on the phone, take it off. Some cases cause interference with the gps.

I thought of that, and tried it once. It didn't make a difference. Not to mention, I've had the same case since the day I got the phone (I'm particular about cases and screen protectors on touch-screen phones), and it wasn't interfering during the 2 or 3 months where the GPS functionality was working great.
I restored to the stock ROM found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
No dice. It seemed to work for a moment immediately after booting post-flash, but now it is not getting any sat locks. I am going to take it in to the store and see what they say...
Hey guys just wanted to stop by and ask if you ever thought it was not rom or hardware related? The US government will from time to time take sats out of commission for repairs and tests. Not to mention they can kill any sats they feel like without telling anyone. Just a thought
Yeah, but your gps usually connects to 5-10 sattelites at once, I'm sure they wouldn't all be out at once.
http://www.google.com/m?hl=en&gl=us...uncher&action=devloc&q=htc+inspire+gps+issues
I suggest you Unroot and run the ruu after calling att to get your replacement on its way. Myself and others have had to do it due to faulty hardware.
I thought I was having issues with my GPS but here's what I did:
Use GPS Status and reset and download the agps information.
Let phone sit near window or outside with screen timeout set to never.
After 5min or so I had a lock on 8 satellites. So now that the device has had it's initial lock it should be able to lock quickly from there on.

Hey, not a bad thought. However, this problem had been ongoing for 2 or 3 weeks, and several of my tests involved another device (iPhone 3GS, a different HTC Inspire, and a few others) side by side, with one working and getting a sat lock, while the HTC continued to fail, so it's safe to say I ruled out the possibility of no satellites available.

I finally got my issue resolved. After my 2nd trip to my local AT&T store, speaking with the same rep, I was able to get a warranty exchange in-store. I refused to do that XBM (Exchange by mail) thing. That gets you a refurb, and I would have sent mine directly to HTC to let them repair it before I exchanged my phone for a refurb model. I unrooted and returned completely to stock before I went in. So, I've got a new Inspire, and sure enough, GPS is working. It had to be a hardware failure.
Thanks everyone for the ideas and feedback!

Looks like the hardware issue I was having could have been fixed myself, using the instructions found there. I will keep this in mind if I have any issues with my new phone...

Had to thank you for sharing that link. I was having GPS problems on multiple roms and tried every fix I could find on this forum. I did the hardware trick 2 days ago and (due to tinkering) had to flash my rom 3 times of the last couple of days. Each time though I tested the GPS and it's working perfectly.
I am experiencing terrible WiFi reception. This seems to be ROM independant. I flashed back to miktouch to get a stock kernel and see if it went away. I've moved from cm9.1 to aokp/jb and have the same problem.
I have never flashed a radio on this phone. In fact, its still s-on (please don't laugh, it keeps me from getting too excited and wiping my phone in a truck stop parking lot!)
The only thing I can think of is I tried overclocking it all the way to 1.7...it behaved very strangely for a minute before crashing and rebooting. So I set it back to 1.5 and went on my way.
Could this have damaged the wifi portion of the SoC or its tiny antenna connections?
Sent from my doubleshot.
Try reflashing just the Wifi modules. Click on the "Blue6IX" link in my signature & look in the 4th post, I believe, then pick the one you need. Couldn't hurt.
So, all the way back to stock, and still almost no wifi signal.
I've finally gone to the point of applying PG59IMG.zip onto a relocked phone, thereby restoring everything including the radio to absolutely stock, and still I got ****e for signal. So I guess something is broken, physically. I dread having to send this one back to T-Mobile. It's my third MT4GS in 6 months!. (The first died four hours out of the box, the second I warrantied after a couple months when the e and u keys started repeating to the degree that the hardware keyboard was useless.)
They're gonna start to hate me...and the sad thing is, It's not even the hacking that breaks the phones! (Maybe the dropping.)
Wow it's either you're an unlucky guy or mt4gs hates you
I had only a one and a second hand mt4gs which got dropped several times by the previous owner and it's been very2 stable to me since the 1st day I got it. Didn't have any hardware issues at all.
Before giving up, try installing a ROM AND fastboot flashing the boot.img from it. I'd suggest either Bulletproof or Miktouch. If I remember correctly if you are S-ON you can't write directly to the partition for the radio using the phone, you can only do it externally. So maybe somehow that partition got botched and reflashing the boot.img through fastboot may fix it. It's worth a shot.

Yeah, I actually drop this thing so much, I couldn't get $50 for it with all these nicks... Still works perfectly tho

I always fastboot-flash the appropriate boot.img. this problem persists through all roms, including stock-based, aosp-based, and even relocking and flashing factory firmware as per blue's dev reference thread. Sad thing is, I love my phone so much that so far I'm just living with it. I have unlimited data, and at home I have 2 dd-wrt access points in repeater bridge mode for an 800 sq. ft. house! Everything thing else can hit both full strength. I can hit one or the other.....
