Hi All
I wonder if anyone can help me identify a chip in my XDA/Aremis?
I got the phone for free as it was not charging. Obviously the guy had tried to fit it himself and broken an SMD chip leg off at the case. Optimistically, I spent a bit of time scraping the plastic off the case and trying to get a solder joint but no luck.
The chip itself has 4 legs, is around the size of the end of a ballpoint pen, located very close to the USB port and has the letters N87 printed on it.
I've searched this site and googled it, but had no joy. I'm hoping to buy a duff phone from fleabay and pinch the chip out of that, but if I fail, I'll need to get another chip or replace it with discretes if at all possible.
All replies gratefully received....
Steve

Is it me or is this part simply a peice of poor design and manufacturing?
How is it that hundreds of people and thousands of threads could have been produced by a "fit for purpose" bit of kit.
Is there nothing we as users can do to insist that the manufacturers recall and replcae these obviously fragile connectors.
O2 shop told me it was my fault and the damage was caused by "rough handling" but surely we can all of done this "rough handling" bit??
Are there any legal bods out there who can check this out???
:?:
i know its the XDA2's design because.......
how many posts have you seen......
XDA 1 connector fell off or spv connector damaged, spv e200 connector fell off......
well i can say ive seen none what so ever.
i just got my xda 2 back from my mate who had a go at putting it back on he done a good job but it doesnt charge with the house charger no more but does with the car charger so no worries i even put superglue all around the conenctor to make sure its not comming off again
there must be something we can do to get them sorted because its deffently a design fault
Actually it happens fairly often with XDA1s too. I've seen it happen a lot more frequently with XDA1s than with XDA2s but that could be because the XDA1 has been out a lot longer
I can replace connector!
I can repair/replace your broken connector in the UK. please get a qoutation today and I am garantee to goute you a 'happy'

cheers
Broken connector happened to my first I-Mate, for the record. Bad design I think.
I agree about the connector issue. My XDA I needed 'repairing' several times, before I just bought a new motherboard to replace it!
So far, my XDA II hasn't suffered the same fate, but I have learned to be VERY careful with that connector.
HI,
The otherday i was cleaning and changing the case of my Magician.
I made a wrong move and pulled out the camera, lucky the camera was connected by what it looks like a socket.
So yea, im just wondering, would it be possible to buy another camera module, coz the camera is just plain crap.
im just looking at ways of improving my magician lol.
whitemoo.
if its a standard conection id say yes i did a cam change on an old nec e808y it worked so i cant see why not id head off to maplin and pick up a cam let me know how you get on or if you get stuck
Actually the Magician's camera is a bit... weird. It hangs off by a thin parallel connection instead of being soldered to the board, which I don't think many other cameras do. I dunno, I've given up all hope on that terrible camera
ive just about given up hope to, im only wondering cause my real digicamera is in repair, and im itching to take photo's.
I was looking at aftermarket parts for camera phones, and saw camera modules which looked like they had similar connections, so there might be hope.
When i do get my real digicamera back from repair ill take some high res shots of the connector, and aftermarket case's for reference on this forum.
Whitemoo.
yer get some shots of where it connects to the phone as well
Can anyone give me a detailed description of how to change the case of O2 mini. I have tried to open the case many times but failed. iam afraid i might void the warranty.
Hi maharishi_b,
ill be giving my detailed photo's of the inside of the xda mini soon, and photo's of aftermarket cases i bought off ebay, compared to the original. This will all come soon.
you will need a plastic case opener similar to what they use to open the ipod's, and a torx screwdriver.
Theres a post with pictures on how to open it, but i cant seem to find it.
Whitemoo.
Torx size 6 to be precise. Stupid seller who sold me my casing shipped me a size 5, and I almost made the bottom two screws round before I realised.
Also I dont use the plastic case opener - I find a thin metal thing to be more effective, though I dont know what its called - it holds the binding thing... nevermind.
Hey guys, I managed to get a SK4G for really cheap, but the problem is the USB connector is broken.
Usually I can find these things on ebay for real cheap ($5-10 shipped) but for this particular model I can't find any for some reason...
Can anyone point me in the right direction? A digikey part number perhaps? I'd like to figure it out before opening it up just to save time and less chance of loosing/damaging parts before I repair it.
Thanks!
It's not precisely identical, but http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/10103593-0001LF/609-4049-1-ND/2350356 looks like it'll fit.
I'm going by the photos I took for http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466906
Thanks! That's just the reference I needed! I was able to reflow the connector instead actually and fix the problem

Ok well here is my issue. While replacing the LCD assembly on my one plus one I managed to rip off the metal connectors(I believe they are called pogo sticks) on the logic board that make contact with the antenna's on the back cover. I ripped the ones that control the WiFi/Bluetooth and also the GPS one. I was trying to figure out how to fix this since when trying to soder them back on there was nothing they could be soldered to. I'm basically left with the empty spots on the PCB board where they are supposed to go. While looking at the logic board I saw that there are a couple of pigtail looking connectors on it that don't have anything particularly connected to them. I was wondering if I could use those to repair my connection issues. Or of any of you have any advice to give thank you for all your help ^_^
I'm wondering if anyone knows what these are... I cant find any info anywhere on that particular SMD code. They're on the underside of a MTCD core board and there's a number of them. The burned one has something to do with the LCD backlight/dimming function, as this isn't working after a mishap that led to letting the smoke out. I believe they're either caps or diodes simce there's clearly a polarity marker on them, but I'm kinda at a loss and would really appreciate any light anyone could shine on my problem.
Thanks in advance!!!
Been a while, so I figured it'd be ok to bump. Anyone have any ideas? I'd love to get this thing functioning correctly again!!
How many solder pads? I intrepted the pic of the failed component as “TAK” looked it up here. Keep scrolling. https://smd.yooneed.one/code5441.html
Yeah... I found that site as well. The issue is that there's only two conductors on these components and every part listed there has more. So it's definitely not any of those they have listed.
