HI,
The otherday i was cleaning and changing the case of my Magician.
I made a wrong move and pulled out the camera, lucky the camera was connected by what it looks like a socket.
So yea, im just wondering, would it be possible to buy another camera module, coz the camera is just plain crap.
im just looking at ways of improving my magician lol.
whitemoo.
if its a standard conection id say yes i did a cam change on an old nec e808y it worked so i cant see why not id head off to maplin and pick up a cam let me know how you get on or if you get stuck
Actually the Magician's camera is a bit... weird. It hangs off by a thin parallel connection instead of being soldered to the board, which I don't think many other cameras do. I dunno, I've given up all hope on that terrible camera
ive just about given up hope to, im only wondering cause my real digicamera is in repair, and im itching to take photo's.
I was looking at aftermarket parts for camera phones, and saw camera modules which looked like they had similar connections, so there might be hope.
When i do get my real digicamera back from repair ill take some high res shots of the connector, and aftermarket case's for reference on this forum.
Whitemoo.
yer get some shots of where it connects to the phone as well
Can anyone give me a detailed description of how to change the case of O2 mini. I have tried to open the case many times but failed. iam afraid i might void the warranty.
Hi maharishi_b,
ill be giving my detailed photo's of the inside of the xda mini soon, and photo's of aftermarket cases i bought off ebay, compared to the original. This will all come soon.
you will need a plastic case opener similar to what they use to open the ipod's, and a torx screwdriver.
Theres a post with pictures on how to open it, but i cant seem to find it.
Whitemoo.
Torx size 6 to be precise. Stupid seller who sold me my casing shipped me a size 5, and I almost made the bottom two screws round before I realised.
Also I dont use the plastic case opener - I find a thin metal thing to be more effective, though I dont know what its called - it holds the binding thing... nevermind.

Hey guys. I just got this second hand O2 XDA Mini a few weeks ago and I was challenged to bring it back to it's former glory. It as pretty run down but still in good working order so I decided to do a complete make over.
First, I went about flashing the ROM to the Latest Big Storage ROM which really helped me cram all my necessary apps. Second, I started looking for a replacement fascia/housing to give the Mini a fresh new look. I decided not to go with the Original fascia/housing because it was too expensive. Instead, I got this OEM (non-original) replacement fascia which came in a variety of colors. For my Mini, I decided to go with black. The keypad itself was black which made it unique.
I then went about the challenging and harrowing task of disassembly. After a couple of hours and many sweaty hand wipes later, I managed to put the new fascia together with nary a problem. I put my "new" Mini in a crystal case in order to protect it from scratches and voila... My own O2 XDA Mini Black Edition! Even blacker than the oiginal Black Edition.
Check out the pics...
Do tell about your own expereinces (and pictures) of your forays into customization.
HEY KABAYAN!!! that's awesome!, where did you bought the housing? at bidshot or in greenhills?, i've saw one in BIDSHOT and he's seeling it for 1k,how much did you bought yours?, i want to change my casing too,so that i can keep the original black housing.m using a hardcase and it's to bulky to use(MAS MAGANDA KCNG GMITIN AND MINI PAG WLANG CASE).
Hope to hear from you soooonnn!!!!
Looking great bro..how much did the Housing cost ya??
All in all a great job-10/10
I got it in Greenhills for about 800 but I'm sure you could get it for 700 if you look hard enough. I've decided to put a membrane at the d-pad opening to protect the d-pad since i know this will fade from constant contact with my thumb. It's a really good idea if you want to do what I did. Now my Mini is completely made over and protected.
I'm glad you guys liked the job. I'm really happy wih it too.
ooo...hello KABAYAN!! ahah, i remember those places...ahh home...
i so envy you at the moment. I want that clear case and that cover!
the clear case i got is different and scratches my fone.
ima gonna ask my cuzes over there to get me one...
CAn i ask something? what material is the non original case made out of?
is it the same as the original one? which is some sort of metal... i love that metal feel on my magician...
whitemoo..
You know, the feel of the housings are actually quite similar to the original. The fit is also plush.
well...thanks for that, i decided to order the silver original and the gray casings, costing me over $100 aud, argh overpriced shipping...
also picked up the same clear case that only half opens...
cant wait till they get here!.
Thanks for the info,
Whitemoo
did the same thing for my 2nd hand mini.
If there is a crystal clear housing, that would be very cool. It would look like a swatch watch
xda mini housing
who are bigshot and greenhills?? are they in us or worldwide? do they ship to the uk/ also l have a tmobile uk compact/ magicianand the screen broke after i dropped it. i got ot repaired using a blocked compact2/charmer. ever since the send, end, calender, contacts and centre buttons dont work. the send button ends the call and the others do nothing at all. could anyone help?
you can buy em off ebay. I ordered mine the other day. Comes to about 30 quid including postage for the keypad and the case.
I think these are going to be genuine ones left over from when they were making the xda mini so are probably genuine. Will be comparing my old facia with the new one carefully when they arrive and will report back wheather i think they are copys or not
I was once in Greenhills (Vira Mall). It is a shopping mall in the Philippines and there's an area with retail stores (mostly run by Chinese) dedicated for all type of phones. They do repairs, unlocking, conversions, and sell all sorts of accesories. Prices are quite cheap (in comparison to US and European prices) but most accessories are coming from China and are of very poor quality according to our standards. I didn't buy anything because of the quality of products. I've never been to BigShot but I guess it's something similar.
I'm wondering if you can show a fellow pinoy how to disassemble my mini. And while were on the subject, do you know where or how I can replace or improve the speaker on my phone. My phone sounds distorted when it's turned up. salamat pare ko!
I'm not a Filipino. but I was there many times for business trips and in one of those trips I was in Greenhills.
I already dismantled my unit once. What I'll do is take pics while dismantling it when my facia arrives, hopefully in a week. It's hard to explain by words only. So, stay tuned.

@rdgzmn4xdadevelopers: I found this one some time ago on the forum. Can't remember the post, but I'm sure you like it BTW how did you come up with your nickname?
Cheers, M
EDIT Replaced the file with the uncorrupted rar
Thanks OLTP but it seems that the ZIP file is corrupted.
you're right & on my device too I'm searching for the post now.
Excuse me for the inconvenience, M
No problem. I just got a notice from the post office, hopefully it's the fascia I ordered.
Well I found it back, of course http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39489&highlight=magician+apart
& that thread links to another useful one.
Succes in the refurbishmentbusiness, M
Your da man
I'm just getting it very hot with these compliments.
It's just that I can't take it when I can't find something back.
does anyone know if there is / will be a cameraless version of the Touch Pro? Or any of the newer phones that is... Treo Pro, Omnia, Diamond, etc... I'm still stuck at Hermes level by Cingular. Does AT&T still make versions without cameras?
Why do you want a camera less version? Why not just get the normal one and not use the camera?
Because he works in a place (or goes to a school) where camera's are prohibited, due to there being sensitive documents (or children) about.
Maybe it helps, when you put a piece of sticky tape on the camera chip under the cover disable camera icon in album, turn off touchflo and delete camera shortcut from programs,so all access to camera app will be disabled. If someone will ask,if you are able to take pictures with it,just give him for a test to take the picture. Or make a small triangle from black plastics and stick it on the alluminium one. Yes,but what with the 3G camera?
Thats correct. A place where cars are around that noone has seen yet. A camera would cost me my job, not even a cameraphone with deactivated camera is allowed. So the AT&T (or until now Cingular) phones where great, because I could show them, they are *manufactured* without camera (though I know the modul is just pulled inside and a black cover where the lens was). Of course it's a real pita to find those on ebay, and from someone that ships to germany too
Mercedes, BMW or Audi I wonder
@TomasNM: in case they ask, I have to prove that the phone was manufactured without camera, i.e. you can order or buy it somewhere. Of course I can fake the camera be gone, but when I have a HTC something for example, I need to be able to show that there is one without camera (like nokia E51 for example).
@NLS: Audi.
there's quite a demand for phones without camera, but it's more or less ignored by companys. Only one so far besides Nokia I know is Cingular, and that was only because they couldn't get their video network to work
Yes,I was in april at BMW in Germany for a bussinesstrip. Everywhere is taking photos strictly disallowed, but I needed some to take(of ours machine for documentation),so I just did it with Olympus camera, not only with HTC Hurricane(my bussiness phone). Everybody thought,I am crazy, but I didn't care. Hahaha. Sorry La....ut. Anyway, our machines are for the welding of already-known parts of BMWs and my pictures was without those parts,so no secret things goes out(if someone wants to ask).
BMW is quite easy on cameras, and in Audi manufacturing part noone cares also (everyone I know that works there has a cameraphone). Though I work in the technical development area, and it's quite different there... There are several cases of termination of work contract...
Considering how difficult it is to get a phone now that doesnt have a camera. Cant you just explain the situation with your boss?

Pictures, or it didn't happen!
LOL, J/K
What about physically removing the camera and making a little cover to cover the hole. Ive heard of people doing that. Ive also heard there are companies that will do it for you if you don't have the skills. When I worked at 3M it was worse,we simply were not allowed to have phones of any kind in the plant at all. At our plant,we had could have them in the offices,up front but not in the actual manufacturing facility.
If I did that with say,my mogul,I think I would get one of the 3rd party extended batteries with the cover that doesnt have the markings that indicate there is a camera. That way,I would have a phone, with no camera, and a little plastic or rubber plug over a hole, where there is no camera. (rubber plug might be better, that way if someone really thought there was a camera, you could pull out the plug and show them, nothing there. )
There will be a cameraless version, why is everyone douvting it? The 8125, 8525, and Tilt all have had cameraless counterparts.
I'm not doubting, I have asked the bad thing about it, is you have to wait ~2 generations of phones until they pop up on ebay....
(and explaining such a situation to the boss of 30.000 ppl that you maybe saw once on TV is a bit difficult)

There are some Qteks around, with pushmail and everything, but only for upper management. They just have a sticker on the camera, but they are registered with numbers. Also there's a department that has camera phones in an isolated area, those are the ppl that work on bluetooth in the car etc., but again everything registered. Since I'm external, i.e. working for a company that works for that company, there's no way to get in a situation to be *allowed* to have a secured camera phone.
I the case of the Touch Pro there are 2 cameras that need to be removed / disabled, making it even more difficult to do oneself to the satisfaction required.
Ill send you my Nokia 2110.... and in return I get a pic of the RS8?
no need for the nokia

HP Ipaq 614. Not as cool as the Rapahel, but still a reasonable phone. Without any camera!
Eriol
Maybe this will help/guide/... you: click.
I'm just wondering if anybody was curious enough (and maybe brave enough ) to try tearing down their new Captivate yet? I started, figured out that if you lift in the middle of the battery lock as you pull out, you can slide it a bit further than normal, exposing the remaining two of the six screws on the back of the device.
However, I was unable to separate the back from the front, and gave up because I didn't want to force it and chance breaking my phone. I think there might be another screw underneath the sticker in the battery cavity, but I'm not certain.
Ok, scratch that, there is NOT another screw underneath the sticker. I just peeled it back a little to check. Theres one small hole where it feels like there might be a screw, but its just a hole
I am tempted to press on, I'd like to get some pictures of the internal hardware so that we can figure out what this does or does not have, (FM Radio -> I'm lookin at you!)
It definitely looks to be the same basic PCB structure as the Galaxy S i9000. I just which I could get the back cover off without feeling like I'm going to break my phone.
EDIT: I made a little progress, got the back *mostly* separated from the phone. All but one latch at the top of the phone that appears to be very stubborn. I'm not sure if there's an adhesive there or just a stubborn latch, but I can't get it out.
EDIT 2: Got it!!! Its open now, will post pics of its innards soon..
looking forward to finding out if the fm-radio is possible, was mad after i found out att had disabled it, but if the chip is still there then there's hope

I'm not entirely sure which chip to be looking for, but I've got a few pictures up, the quality may not be enough to work out what chips are or are not present, I'm going to work on getting ahold of a better camera, hopefully tomorrow, to get some clear pictures of the board.

Were you able to locate the internal SD card? Any signs that it may be replaceable for, say, a 32GB? Or is it soldered on?
it definitely looks to be soldered on. There is what looks to be a samsung flash chip...
I am trying to take apart my htc pure. I cannot get the part down by the stylis to release. there is a small body part still in place after removing the battery cover and the torx screws. has anyone taken one of these apart willing to give me a hint?
thanks in advance for any clues
got it apart. turns out there is a little plate just under the front nav buttons (will post pics later if possible) that needed pried off to reveal 2 other screws. I got the speaker to work, kind of. it has a lot of crackle to it. now I have a few questions I am not sure on.
how can I tell if the unit has previously been modded, should I search the rom revision on the forum?
if it has been modded, possibly just a bad radio file has been loaded, I kinda doubt that but could that be possible?
lastly, does anyone have any idea where to purchase a replacement ear speaker? I have searched high and low. only found one new they wanted $85.00 for just the speaker. Gee, little high.
I have seen dead units on ebay for $40.00, thinking that may be my only option now.
Hi all,
Just bought a second hand Xperia Z3 off eBay which had a smashed back screen. The price was low enough that it was worth buying just to simply replace the broken back glass (or so I thought).
I have a replacement back panel and the plan was to take the old heat gun, pry off the old smashed backing and replace it and all's good with world. Before I went ahead and did anything though, I wanted to test that the phone was otherwise in good working order. All functions seem to be working fine throughout my testing, except for when I came to using the camera flash.
Whether it's trying to use it as a camera flash or as a torch function, I cannot get the light to turn on at all. I don't want to open the case up just yet, so I have been doing research trying to find flash replacement parts before I crack the back off it and try replacing it.
I haven't been able to find any flash leds specifically, but from the pictures of disassembled z3's it seems like the flash led is not actually on the camera part, but is rather on the mainboard? Could anybody confirm if this is the case? And if it is indeed connected to the mainboard and I'm up for a replacement, what costs would I be looking at? Would I be able to simply buy a mainboard and swap the new for the old or is there more to it than that?
The model is an unlocked D6653.
By the way
by the way, I have test pressure sensor already, and it is normal.
ahhh, sorry, I reply in wrong thread...
Here is the teardown of the Z3 by iFixit:
https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Sony+Xperia+Z3+Teardown/30464
And another:
http://www.androidauthority.com/sony-xperia-z3-teardown-532390/
Thanks for that. Damn...the closer I look at it, the more and more it's looking like the flash unit is indeed part of the main board.
