I downloaded and installed Froyo from talkandroid. The file was a .exe Odin flasher. (I'd link the website but it wont let me)
I am going to send my phone in because of the shutdown issues. Do i need to go back to 2.1? Is there a way to?
Thanks

Then a factory reset to wipe the internal and you should be good to go.

Hi everyone
I am a noob so be nice to me. I accidently cracked the screen on my Samsung Vibrant and so have a few questions about how to return the phone back to Stock/unrooted (just like befor i flashed). I am fine if i have to lose my contacts, apps. ect...
Background:
I rooted my phone with One-Click-Root/Unroot from XDA (loved it). I then flashed the latest Nero 5.0 ROM from Team Wiskey (Love it). As part of either the root or flashing the ROM(i can't remember which one), I downloaded "ROM Manager" with CWR.
Q #1: Is it as easy returning to stock ROM as just using "Flashing ClockworkMod Recovery" or should I have used "nandroid" (don't know what it does, but I see it talked about) also?
Q #2: I hear people say that you need Odin to return back to stock ROM, but then I hear that is ONLY if you don't have ROM Manager w/CWR. Do I need Odin or do I only need ROM Manager w/CWR?
Q #3: If all I need is ROM Manager w/CWR and it returnes back to what it was before i flashed, can i just us the "Unroot" button on the One-Click-Root/Unroot"?
Q #4(Last Question): Will I recieve OTA's if I have to us Odin and flash a stock ROM, how do I get back to stock and recieveing OTA's?
I understand that there are alot of posts asking how to return to stock but that is from people where something in the programs went wrong when trying to return to stock. I am just wondering what programs (other than ROM Manager and CWR) are need for me to return to stock? Please help, I don't want my phone to be rejected because my warranty is void. Thanks

All thats needed to return to stock is a Nandroid backup of your original ROM.
Oh wait.....
Why do people totally fail at this?
What you need now is an original ROM for your device and then flash it from recovery.
So in other words, I need to download a 2.1 Rom (last version i had) from somewhere back on to my computer and then do the same things that i did to flash Nero 5? Is that where Odin comes in? OR, would CWR already have that ROM and everything all in one package?
Like I said, I am a nook. I am suprised that i didnt brick my phone rooting and flashing a ROM the first time. I may be pushing my luck going back to stock. But, it needs to be done if i want my phone fixed.
I would have a look HERE, in the Samsung Vibrant forum. I'm sure you'll find an Official ROM to Flash somewhere in there.
You would just put the .zip on your SD card, restart to Recovery and select the option to Flash from SD
Okay, i am getting it now. However, wont the "Update.zip" (Nero 5.0) be there on my SD memory already? Will i damage my phone if i delete the "Update.zip" and put in the Stock.zip (then do the recovery thing)? So once i get the Stock ROM uploaded on my phone, can i just use the one-click-unroot (from XDA) to have my phone be unrooted and new just like it was when i bought the phone? Will i get OTA's?
Thank you for your help, i am sorry for bugging you but i feel like i am starting to understand it more. These are probably the last questions that i have....probably
Good evening,
I did a search but could not find any posts that were clear on restoring to stock so I can send my tablet in for a screen repair.
How do I remove CWM and put everything back to the original factory stock? I am currently running Prime 1.3.
Thank you in advance!
I've not read anything about this yet and we certainly need a good guide written about this topic. Maybe your best bet is to pm some of the people who have created the roms for advice. If you get an answer feel free to write a nice guide about it.
I'll have to look for the thread (search for unroot in dev forum). You'll need to flash back to your nandroid backup, then download 8.2.3.9, and apply the blob from that package the same way you did with blob5. I want to say theres no need to flash back (step 1), but that's what I did. Make sure you do a md5 on the PC/Mac copy against the copy on you're sd card as well. After that you should be unrooted and back to stock.
Edit: Needless to say you only do the blob steps and not the gingerbreak, SU stuff
Edir 2: Also, I know when you root a second time that the boom sh or something needs to be deleted, though I'm not sure whether or not its a good idea to delete these before sending it back.

I am new to the world of flashing... tried it once and ended up hard bricking phone... totally my fault with wrong rom. sent it out to get fixed. got it back and all is good. but now my phone runs 2.3.3. tried to root with no luck. trying to atleast restore some apps and contacts

any help and assistance appreciated. ive tried to read as much as i could, but most seem to be based off upgrading from 2.2.
thank you in advance
are you able to restore contacts through gmail sync? and as far as apps goes the ones that youve bought/downloaded from the market you will have to redownload...did you backup your apps with titanium backup?
yeah. backed up with Ti. most of my contacts were phone stored
you wont get the contacts back that werent synced to gmail or tmobile.
but try going to /sdcard/titaniumbackup and your apps should be in there, and either push them to /data/app/ or use root explorer and put them there...let me know how it goes.

i thought i couldnt use a root explorer without first rooting?
since im basically at square 1, can i just odin a rooted rom like icbinb or trigger? just want to make sure that i dont brick again, my wife would kill me..lol
you cant use root explorer to its full potential without rooting.
you should be able to odin back to froyo, but read through the threads to make sure you get to bootloaders right, because if you dont, you will hard brick your phone
you cant odin icbinb or trigger. those are only cwm flashable. once you successfully odin back to kb5 or kc1, look in krylons final cwm thread and move the two files to the right place and then you can flash one of those roms. for more information about the cwm flashable or odin roms, got to the bible thread in the development section
quick question... how do i know what bootloader i have?
if you are on 2.3 and you get the rainbow screen, then you are on froyo bootloaders. if you dont, you are on gb bootloaders. if you are running froyo fine, then you are on froyo bootloaders.
yea...im pretty sure thats right. lol. like 85%.
rainbow screen? tried to search for what that looks like?
is that only during initial boot
im guessing i have gb bootloader.... no crazy rainbow screen???
I'm a noob too, but this worked for me
I think I was in the same boat - rooted 2.2, then upgraded to 2.3.3 but lost root. I had all the Ti backup done, but then couldn't use it without re-rooting. I followed this (twice, the first time I didn't read carefully):
1. download things below:
Download zimage-root.tar to computer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=627433&d=1308258432
2. Download zimage.tar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=628363&d=1308338680
3. Download ODIN to computer and unzip it: http://www.mediafire.com/file/1qqk94teauc64nb/Odin3-v1.85.zip
4. You should have working USB connection between computer and phone. If not, install Samsung USB drivers:
download Samsung Drivers for 32-Bit windows: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
download Samsung Drivers for 64-Bit windows: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
5. reboot into download mod.
6. run the ODIN exe.
7. connect phone to computer.
8. click pda, select zimage-root.tar file, click start.
9. when finish, get a bootloop, remove phone from usb.
10. power off, replace the battery, again download mod, connect phone to computer, run the ODIN again.
11. click pda, select the zimage.tar file, click start.
12. reboot.
Wait you just got this phone back and its completely stock and running 2.3.3 out of the box?! Um that means they have already started to roll out the GB update for the SGS4G??? Why is nobody excited about this haha
on second thought: GRAB THAT PHONE THIS INSTANT AND HARVEST THOSE BOOTLOADERS WE NEED THOSE IF THEY ARE OFFICIAL LOL YOU MY FRIEND MAY HAVE THE FIRST OFFICIAL ROLLOUT OF GB WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT TO FLASH I BACK TO FROYO???
on third thought: i can help you with the contacts, if they were saved to your phone and your phone only then im sorry but you will never get those contacts back. Create a gmail account if you do not have one and go into settings and accounts and sync check the google and tmobile sync settings to have your contacts backed up for future use, this will solve your problem if it happens that you need to do a master reset or get a new phone! As far as restoring apps i cannot say much because you are running gingerbread.
I need to return this phone. Bad pixles. I have unrooted it and restored the stock 2.2 rom nandroid. But this phone was shipped with gingerbread. I can't get it to update using the LG software. It says my software is up to date. So I guess I have to root again and flash the stock gb. Will someone help me locate stock gb zips or nandroids?
you have to do some trick with that lg updater to get it to work. Atleast, I had to. If i can find those steps I'll posted.
try this: unless you found a gb zip..

or here are the zip files..

I havent looked but I am sure there is a nandroid or.zip of stock GB in the dev section. If not I just returned my phone to stock because I got a new one and I just wanted to mess around so went to my original GB from befor I played witht the phone and did a factory reset then made a nandroid copy of that on my old phone because the new one was used and the person had someone else do the rooting and flashing for him and they never made a backup of the original. So I took the nandroid backup from my old phone and restored it on the newer one and it worked perfectly. So If you need and it is allowed I can post the copy of that nandroid backup and that should work I think.
Note I am not an expert so if anyone knows better please chime in. But I think that should be okay to send back for warenty exchange. Unless they really look they wont know the difference. I'm sure that they can always tell if they try jhard enough. So when you are on the phone with them make sure you are polite and dont lose your temper for any reason because that will m ake them look harder for a reason not to help you. Thats just my advice. Good luck
You should flash the development section on your phone
Thanks. I cant seem to figure out how to flash those bin files
Now I've done it! I found this file 2x-v10b-1300166062-nvflash and flashed the "flash" app. Now my phone thinks its a p990. What have I done! How do I reverse this! It wont let me flash clockwork recovery anymore
HOT DAMN! I GOT IT! Finally found exactly what was looking for!

Question regarding Odin 3.07 and CWM v6
I rooted my S3 2 days ago via Odin. Last night I tried to flash CM10 and ended up with the "Please report to the principals office" message from Verizon. I was able to Odin back to the stock root, reload recovery, and get back to normal. Lesson learned! Double check everything, then flash!
It got me thinking however, If I copy my recovery files to the desktop, if that were to happen again, can I just flash a recovery file through Odin and get right back to before the brick? Yes, No? (And if you dont mind taking a second, Why? for learning purposes)
I am very very new at this. I have been flashing my A500 tab for about a year but out of 3 Android phones this is the first I have ever rooted.
Thanks for any and all advice.

You go me thinking and wondering the same thing. First, I think flashing anything other then the stock image trips the counter on the phone. Second, the only thing that pops up in pda mode is the md5 file called nandroid and im not sure if that file would push the rest of the backup images?
So far what I do KNOW is you could save the files on you computer (before you have a problem, of course), later on when you soft brick the device -> flash with odin the stock image, root phone (using gs3-debugfs-root_r2 is the easiest way to root IMO), flash CWM and then push the folder back into clockwork mod! not too much touble to do it that way just takes some time.
that's pretty much what I did.
