Screen - glass, or not? - Optimus One, P500, V Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do I need screen protector? Original foil just came down, right at the corner, wher I catapult birds (most used part - do I really need screen protector, or is the screen glass? Any scratches so far?

It is a cheap phone. It definitely needs a screen protector. There is another topic regarding to this.

used 95% alcohol to clean the screen

read that its bad to do this after i already did it. i did it because i had a screen protector on there, one of those adhesive kinds and it left a sticky residue on the screen so i tried using alcohol to get it off but i couldn't. i heard they have some anti oil surface on these touch screens that gets damaged by alcohol? So is my new phone screwed by the alcohol and how do i get this sticky stuff off.
This is kind of off topic, but Copenhagen snuff ruined my G2x's screen. It took me a few days to figure out where the spot came from. You couldn't really see it until you held it a certain way. It almost looked like a waxy film. So, never touch gorilla glass with copenhagen on your fingers, or never clean your screen with 95% alcohol.

So, have you found out what is OK to use? That's only on the protector? (which I don't use). Is it OK to use directly on the glass?

I took out the screen protector because it was interfering with the touch screen and use the alcohol on the glass haven't used any other cleaner water is good enough I guess
I used eye glass cleaner before putting on my screen protector
this stuff is pretty amazing too http://www.amazon.com/Screen-Guard-Foam-Cleaning-Spray/dp/B0012YCTZM/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8 makes it even more smudge/fingerprint resistant even without a protector
will that get rid of the sticky stuff left from the screen protector? i mean i tried alcohol and that didnt even work
It should get rid of it and reapply an invisible protective smudge-resistant coat...what kind of protector did you use? The T-Mobile ones are static adhesive...

Advice request for Screen Protector

Hi guys,
I saw several topics relative to screen protectors but I'm a bit lost when it comes to choose a good screen protector that fit my requirements..
Right now, I am using the screen protector (and back protector) delivered with the phone (not talking about the anti-shatter film), but I got recently an impact/scratches on the screen and I'd like to change the screen protector to something at least as good as the original sony screen protector.
I was quite interested in buying a tempered glass screen protector as it is highly resistant to scratches and has usually oleophobic coating, but I heard that it is very fragile and, once applied, the phone can't fit anymore in the sony charging dock (which is really a shame). But I'd like to have a confirmation from you guys regarding this?
Otherwise, can you please give me advice about a great plastic screen protector, easy to apply and efficient against scratches and fingerprints (oleophobic coating if it exists for plastic screen protector)?
I saw suggestions about the XtremeGuard one, is that really worth the price? What I don't like is you need water to install it onto the screen (that's why the HI-DEF one of this manufacturer looks better as you don't need water), also there's no hole for the proximity sensor, I heard that's sometimes a problem?
Thanks in advance for your advices!

Tempered Glass Screen Protector

Just a quick question for anyone. I am looking for a tempered glass screen protector that actually fits. The 3 that I have ordered do not cover the screen completely. If anyone uses one that actually covers the display edge to edge could you please tell me what brand. Thanks all

I have been using a Moshi iVisor edge-to-edge for about 4 months and have had no problems with it. I have used it in conjunction with a UAG case and it fits perfectly. Note that it only has adhesive around the edges, and not on the screen itself. Others have reported the edges lifting and allowing dust in over time, but I have not yet experienced this (it is supposed to be fully washable and reusable, should this happen). Also it is one of those protectors with the 'grid of dots' on the glass (something to do with the way the glass is hardened, or touch sensitivity or something). This is only visible in direct sunlight when the screen is off, and I never really notice it.

There are other edge-to-edge protectors, if you check out this thread (especially toward the end) you'll find others who have used them:

I'm thinking particularly of this one, which is similar to the Moshi:

Both edge-to-edge and those with a gap around have their pluses and minuses - but I, for one, can't stand the gap around the screen protector that the non-edge-to-edge protectors have, sorry but I think it looks dreadful. :/

Why start a new thread? Question has been covered so many times in the actual tempered glass thread.

Thanks for your reply. I started the thread because I just got this device and when I attempted to check accessories it would loop me back to a blank page. This is the main reason I usually stick to one thread on XDA. People that just sit and wait to jump on someone for a simple question without bothering to send a PM but would rather say what they think they need to for everyone to see...so they can get a thumbs up. I really appreciate your reply . You would fit in well with the thread Im always on...respectful..fun..all around good time...so heres a ?up for you for acting like an adult. Im not new to this game...I just understand the respectful way to go about something?
FirekatV19N3..(FireGearV20)
So I got my second nuglas from eBay. Just like my first one it's cut small. But IMO it's the best for phone's that can't get rid of the halo. It has a very good oleophobic screen and very smooth. Mine has very little halo on sides and around home button. It still looks great with the minimal halo I can deal with.

Glass screen protector that fits?

Hi, so far I've tried two different tempered glass screen protectors from amazon and both don't cover the whole screen! I don't want to order another without a suggestion from someone who has gotten one that works. The two that I've tried have been too small horizontally to cover the whole screen and leave a gap of unprotected screen on both sides. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it!

No such thing.... no glass screen protectors work on this unit because of the curved edges. All of them either dont fit to the edges or dont adhere to the phone around the edges.
Oh well that makes sense! Thanks!

G5 Screen Protector - why tempered glass?

What's the point of buying a tempered glass screen protector for the G5 when it already comes with Gorilla Glass? That wouldn't be considered overkill?
I figured the a simple plastic one would do the trick, just for fingerprints, smudging, etc.
Anyone have any recommendations on a screen protector brand? I've been reading some reviews about how some.of the protectors do t account for the G5's curved screen.
Thanks.
It does seem redundant, but Gorilla Glass is not 100% scratch and crack proof. A glass screen protector is a small price to pay (literally) for added protection versus replacing the screen itself. I prefer the smoother feel of glass over plastic, so I go with glass.
The G5's curved screen at the top isn't the issue. The screen is not truly flat in all areas. On my G5 there is a gap between the screen and glass protector on the following areas: center-top (near ear piece), both bottom corners. This is well documented in the G5 screen protector thread. A plastic screen protector flexes enough to hide these gaps.

Is "G5 screen protector" the name of the thread?
Are those gaps annoying? So the plastic ones hide the gaps, eh? Is that the one you're using, but even though it's hidden you're still aware of it's presence? Do you have a recommendation on a good one that isn't too expensive?
The case I bought kinda sucks. The volume down button is incorrectly placed and seems like it just missed the down press.. it basically just increases the volume. Any suggestion on a slim profile case that lines up with all the buttons correctly? I think I might just go with one of the LG ones; I assume their own cases would line up perfectly.
