[Q] paid app issues and exchange support with touchdown - G Tablet General

I have had an archos 101 tablet and the gtab is definitely better. But, i have problems installing and running a couple things. Touchdown exchange will not fully set up, i get to the end of the setup nd it just stops without finishing fully. Didn't get an error and never syncs to activesync server. Documents to go tell me my eyes isn't valid and needs to be downloaded from the maret. I downloaded it fro the market though. What gives? Anyone else have issues like this?

Captivate With Exchange

I finally got sick of my iphone 4 and decided to give the captivate a try. So far I've been pleasantly surprised on how much I actually like the phone. It will be great once the chefs actually start making some roms for it.
So I've had my phone for 3 days and I cannot get exchange to push to it. When I open the email program and hit refresh, it works fine. Just not the push. Contacts and Calendar also work fine. All the 23 other iphones including mine still work fine. Just not the captivate.
I tried searching and found nothing that really helped so I thought I'd see if anyone had any input.
Yes. Push is enabled in the settings menu.
I cant check for myself (because my corporate exchange does not work at all with the stock mail program), but did you go into options, then notifications and set the interval to sync to "as mail arrives?"
You might want to give touchdown a try, 30-day trial, while ugly, works great

What version of Exchange is your company running? Older versions don't do Push.

Agreed.
What version of Exchange are you running? Do you have OWA access? I have set the mail up with OWA address and push worked just fine. Although I currently use Touchdown. I hardly ever use my blackberry now, just sucks carrying two phones.
You can download quickoffice for free, and that should get your exchange working.

Thanks for the input guys.
We run a mixed 2007/2003 enviorment.
Now my iphone and everyone's iphone always worked without issue. So I did a little more digging and figured out what my problem was. When I checked the front end server's logs I was getting the error:
Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [email.company.com] User: [[email protected]] HTTP status code: [500]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I found the fix. It's an exchange issue that M$ knew about and released a hot fix for it. But you need to request them to send it to you (it took M$ 5 minutes to send the file).
The fix that worked for me:

[Q] Captivate + Hosted Exchange Issues

Okay,
I traded my iPhone yesterday for the Captivate as soon as I saw I could flash to Froyo 2.2.
I configured my hosted exchange (sherweb.com) and it was pretty sluggish (unbearable to be blunt). I knew I was going to upgrade to 2.2 as I want/need tethering and mobile hot spot so I used one-click Odin and did the upgrade. It went very smoothly.
After reconfiguring for hosted exchange server access, the thing is still unbearable to use on my exchange account. In my task manager, every time I look, the process is using:
45+ MB RAM
80-90% CPU usage
Any ideas what the problem is? FYI, I'm a total newby. This is my first Android device after 2 years on the iPhone. I don't want to go back to the iPhone but this issue is a dealbreaker for me. Ugh.
Thanks!
Well I can tell you that I am using 2.2 with exchange 2003 and when in the mail App I show 1% cpu and 10 mb memory.

Not sure what the particular problem is in your case but it's obviously not right. Keep in mind this Froyo ROM is a leak and it has a number of issues, exchange support being one of them. There is a replacement Email.apk from an I9000 Froyo ROM that I am using in place of the app that was in our leaked ROM. It seems to work pretty well so far. Check the threads on exchange issues with JI6 Froyo and you should find the thread on replacing the Email client.
I have mine syncing mail, contacts and calendar, I have it set to 30 days, and it is pointing to Exchange 2003... it is only using 13 MB memory.
I am not sure what is going on with yours. Are you still in the initial sync?
I'm using Exchange 2007. My mailbox is about 2.5GB and I was syncing 2 weeks (10kb, but even tried headers only). I had the same issue before I flashed to Froyo.
Interesting question about the initial sync. Not sure how to tell if/when the initial sync is done. It was running at high CPU usage for several hours and overnight. It is basically unusable like this.

The email app Samsung picks (not sure who develops it) is very slow on sync emails. If you have a lot of emails to sync, that's what you probably going to get. I never sync beyond 3 days. And I delete a lot of the emails in inbox as much as possible.
The beauty of Android is that you can try different email apps. For exchange sync, the best option is Touch Down (the UI maybe a little bit old style). There is also K9 for email only.

New Member...Mytouch 4G Exchange Email Problems

First off I want to say Merry Christmas to everyone....I need help and since Tmobile is almost in possible to reach anymore I turned to the forums...I got my Mytouch 4G when it first came out and I love it!!!! First phone I ever had with NO LAG at all...But I cant send emails with the Exchange Email program? I heard everyone is having this problem? Does anyone have a fix for this yet? PLEASE PLEASE help !!!!...
Thanks, Ken
My Exchange ActiveSync account works fine here and has since I got the phone a few days after release. I also use EAS for my Google Apps account on my MT4G.
What happens when you try to send? Do you get some sort of error, or does the email sit in your outbox, or get saved to drafts?
Likely it's a problem with the Exchange settings on your phone or your organization's Exchange configuration. Best bet would be to talk to your Exchange admin.
When I send an email it doesnt show in my sent box or my outbox it just disappears from my phone and it never reaches the person im sending it to..I heard HTC knows of the problem but I called there and got no help like they didnt know anything about it...I heard its something to do with the Active Exchange 2010...I guess the Iphones had the same like problem but Apple fixed it already..I can do anything with the email except SEND.....Sucks bad cause i need it for work
Oh man, I forgot about that bug...I had a couple clients whose iPhones didn't work with their Exchange servers until iOS 4.1 was released.
I just tested with an Exchange 2010 server and am experiencing the same issue as you. As far as I can tell, there are 2 workarounds, one you can implement and one your Exchange admin can implement:
1) Install the default Google email app from 2.2. It works properly with Exchange 2010. You will lose search capability for your Exchange mailbox(es) with this, though. Here's a thread where someone posted the apk. I tested it out and it works for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729753
Alternatively, you could pay for and install the Touchdown app from the market. Personally, I'm not a big fan of it.
2) Your exchange admin can create a new EAS policy for you (it can be exactly the same as the default if that's what is being used):
http://social.technet.microsoft.com...0/thread/bcc50ce4-0c97-4851-987d-1f5080d7942b
Please note that I attempted this with the 2010 testbed server I have access to and it did not work. However, this server does not have Exchange 2010 SP1 installed. I can't install the SP to this VM until my coworker is done using it for testing, so I can't tell you if this workaround works properly for our devices.
Good luck...sorry for doubting you, I forgot I was still using my phone with 07 servers.
Thats more than a bug....lol...But Thank you I will look into this

Fission Email Client (Non-Gmail)

I downloaded the Fission Rom and have a strange problem with my work email account. It appears to be running extremely hard and drains the battery in about two hours with the Fission Rom. It does the same thing with and without the hotfix, anyone have any suggestions for fixing this? I love the ROM otherwise but absolutely need to get some sort of work email support that is reliable.
I suggest you scrap the stock email and get yourself K9 which is a far superior app.
As for Battery drain if you have the polling set at anything under an hour that is the most likely cause of battery drain.
I was not able to get K9 to work after trying everything to set it up. Anyone else have any suggestions? I also tried putting the mail client on check every hour and push, but they both did not make any difference when it came to the mail client draining the battery.
Hmm, maybe you should try reflashing fission, i had a similar problem with my school email and reflashing fixed it

Default email app
I had issues with the default email app not pushing email very quickly/at all both with the stock MotoBlur and the deafult Fission app.
I also was unable to get the K9 app working.
I downloaded Improved Email from the Android Market. I'd link it but I haven't posted enough to earn links yet.
I was able to get that working and it seems decent, if you want to give that shot.

[Q] Browser didn't sync bookmarks

After I flashed a custom ROM the Browse didn't sync the bookmarks.
Whith stock was fine working.
anybody can help
You should always manually backup your book marks anyway, even on my house pc i have it backed up sevral times on diffrent drives!
I hope you used a back program for the other rom!
The problem is not that i lost my bookmarks because i use the coustom rom.
i want to sync the bookmarks from crome over the cloud direct to the browser.
i'm having the same problem running prime 1.5, here's what i see in logcat:
D/SyncManager( 169): failed sync operation ***@gmail.com (com.google), com.android.browser, LOCAL, earliestRunTime 6351479, SyncResult: stats [ numIoExceptions: 1 numEntries: 1809]
today the tf sync some bookmarks, 5 of 100 i hope in the next days ore houres i get more. Did someone know if the issue is from google server ore from tf self.
Same issue without custom ROM.
Hello all,
I have a B60K that I can't seem to get the stock browser to sync bookmarks with. This was on the 3.1 that came with the TF along with the one from earlier today (Kernel 2.6.36.3-00011-g3eb19ec).
It worked fine on my old B50K (also stock, just with the previous 3.1 update).
I have tried Resetting the browser to default a few times along with deleting the account and setting it up so that I am only syncing the browser on the TF and only syncing bookmarks in Chrome.
An odd thing is that now the B50K TF will no longer sync. I had reset it to factory but not returned it yet. If I boot it up and just setup what is needed to sync the browser it doesn't work.
Below are a couple of messages I that helped me find this post.
Any assistance with the sync would be great. That being said, I would also be happy if anyone could point me in the right direction for just importing the bookmarks as a temp work around.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

I am stock 3.1 with latest OTA. The bookmark sync stopped working about a week ago, not long after installing Google+
I get about 50 bookmarks, starting fom the last ones, then sync fails.
Would love to know if anyone has fixed this.

I am getting the exact same thing on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 running rooted-but-otherwise-stock 3.1. I have tried deleting the account but that didn't help. Local problem (client) or problem on Google's side? Any known fix yet?
I am having this problem too today. US TF with latest OTA, unrooted. Looks like a server problem.
Workaround is to export your chrome bookmark into Dropbox.

Thank you and where should I put the bookmarks.
I am also not sure what to do once I get a bookmark folder onto the TF. While Dropbox will make it easier to keep them synced, it doesn't actually help those of us that are looking for a method of importing them into the stock browser.
Is the idea that it is just an html file that we call up with one long list of bookmarks?
In the interim, you could try chromemarks, it will at least extract all your synced bookmarks into the app, and you can launch from there. The dev noted that Google made changes to their db structure which required a fix on July 12. That's right around when my sync started to fail.
I haven't found a way to import into the stock browser. Looking forward to seeing this fixed.

Thanks mike5065. I tried chromemarks. Now I do have my Chrome bookmarks on the TF. That said, I need the full chromemarks version to integrate them into the stock browser.
Does anyone have any ideas for a free method to import bookmarks into the stock browser?

Don't buy the full version of chromemarks it can't integrate bookmarks to the tf browser.

Thanks for saving me (and it sounds like some others) some money. Does anyone have any other ideas?
hello all, and just wanted to share a bit of info I saw on the web--can't remember where. It seems Google changed the way it handles chrome bookmarks and sync sometime about a week ago, and that's why we can no longer sync. Hopefully an update will come that fixes it.
Wow, I just figured out some interesting things that might help clarify troubleshooting and apps for this issue for others as well.
There is a distinct difference between Chrome Bookmarks and Google Bookmarks. Further, they are not compatible. In fact if you want to import Chrome Bookmarks into Google Bookmarks you have to either do it via Firefox or a Delicious Bookmarks account. At any rate, Google Bookmarks seem to work fine syncing with HC right now. It is just the Chrome Bookmarks that are having an issue.
Here is a Google forum entry where they seem to be tracking a current issue with Chrome Bookmarks not syncing:
http://www.google.com/support/forum...ae&hl=en&fid=27043147d44d99ae0004a85d5169dc33
It may be a good idea if we start posting to that forum in order to (maybe) speed up any fix. It may add more urgency to the issue if Google realizes that the scope of the impact is greater then they thought.
Hope this is helpful to some.
Oh, on a quick side note, does anyone know if there is a name for the Honeycomb stock browser? Googling "Honeycomb stock browser" for this issue doesn't seem to help narrow down the search. It would be nice if I knew the name.
Thanks.
A bit update: if you go to settings->accounts & sync->manage accounts, click the up-right corner sync icon, you might notice the same thing as mine: all other sync are updated with the current time except the "sync browser".
The strange thing on mine is that part of the bookmarks are synced, but not all.
looks like it might be fixed, my bookmarks started magically syncing again today

No such luck for me. I did get two empty folders to show up, but nothing else. Are you sure you got all of your bookmarks? Can you check HC account settings to see if the browser has really finished syncing?
Thanks.
