[Q] ¿Which nandroid utility to use? - G1 Android Development

Amon_RA has been failing me recently with SuperBler... that's why. Do you guys know another one that is really good to remove Amon_RA?

Clockwork. I love it.
SuperBler is your country's rom, because of the ¿. We don't use those in English... LOL.

Radios??

Hello, Im trying to flash the Energy Rom Phoenix 2 to my phone, and I was wondering how exactly I would do this, I read the guide for flashing rom, but I dont feel like it worked, and I was also wondering if I needed to flash a radio, and Which one I need to use.

[Q] Help w/ CDMA hero.

Hey guys I love the site its helped me root and ROM my CDMA Hero.
I have encountered a small large problem though.
I rooted my hero and decided to try out a custom ROM I chose Darch Legend. Well I wiped, flashed and it worked. I tried to go back to stock . In the process i lost root access. Then i tried formating the sd card. didnt work.
My question is can i save my phone, if so how? I tried re-rooting and that didnt work. I was thinking about using the the RUU updater but i decided to ask before i screw up my phone more.
Any help is greatly apperciated. Thank you.
Here are the instructions i used to root my phone. The Updater is in the second post.
...Well i guess im not allowed to post a link but it was regaw_leinad's guide to rooting CDMA HERO
After trying a few things i can get to the clockwork recovery screen. Any suggestions? Should i just wipe and Flash a new Rom?

[ROM] DHD Vodafone Australia Stock Branded Rom 1.32.178.5

I finally got around to rooting and S-OFFing my phone today, while I was at it I used clockwork recovery to make a backup of the Stock VHA Branded ROM.
I saw a few people were looking for this so here it is. Feel free to mirror it or whatever, this is my first ROM-dump so if anything is amiss or I did something wrong please let me know. I still have the device available to make further dumps.
This is for the Desire HD (Obviously) Branded by Vodafone Australia.

Sorry for posting a link as a new member, I thought this would be worth it.
EDIT: Obviously the dump is all at factory defaults, on first boot it should be like buying a new phone, from a bloatware company.
Except it will be a rooted bloatware rom?
That's the point People have been asking for it as a backup rom, as flashing a non Vodafone rom may void certain warranties, which flashing this back could increase your chance of keeping. I personally upgraded my own DHD to a much better ROM as soon as I could.
Awesome, ive been waiting for the stock ROM. Good Work

No worries man. Let me know how it turns out if you use it. Everything should be at factory defaults as I wiped the device with Clockwork before making the backup. If you find anything wrong just let me know in this thread.
Thanks Should be handy for warranty issues!
Thanks champion!
Thanks mate. I've downloaded and it all looks good so far (haven't flashed though to check).
Is it rooted with VISIONary r12?
Sweet, been waiting for this. Thanks mate!
Sent from my Desire HD
Yeah the process I followed was Perma root with VISIONary v12, install hboot, install clockwork test, use clockwork to wipe to factory and then backup to SDcard. I'm unsure as to the exact details of how VISIONary works at this time so it may not still be rooted, I don't know if root persists after factory reset.
Thanks! this is getting downloaded for safety/warranty reasons.
Thanks a lot for extracting and hosting the original (Vodafone AUS) ROM!
Am i right, that this is the only thing you need to set your mobile into delivery condition? If there are some other traces of flashing they might decline warranty, too!
Perhaps, if you have the time and pleasure, you could write a detailed how-to for newbies (with links to software you need, e.g.!) how to extract the original firmware.
I think this would be necessary if the DHD will be available in other countries on other network providers (with their own ROM).
Excellent! I'm just 2 days into my new DHD from Vodafone Oz and just about to do the same... Rooting!
I'll probably make a back for myself but I'm downloading this one too... Just to be safe.
Thanks heaps Kazuroka!
BTW - Don't listen to those lame ppl who don't have anything positive to add.
Just a note: I believe that this ROM, although the stock Vodafone image, is a rooted one. So if Vodafone have a moderately smart technical department they will still be able to tell that it is not running their complete stock image.
@ivolol: That's exactly what i'm thinking about! For e. g., changing ROM on my Windows Mobile phone requires a modification of the bootloader. If you flash back your old (original) ROM you have to remember to change the bootloader to original too. Otherweise you have the original ROM on your phone but another bootloader and this could be be detected very easily. I know that the procedure changing ROM on DHD is another than on Windows Mobile, but perhaps you have to think about more things than only flashing the original ROM?!

After flashing back the backup ROM I did not have root. I installed Terminal Emulator and tried to su, and even downloaded VISIONary+ and re-Rooted the device. However I did still have the Eng hboot, as that was not included in this backup. I have a copy of the original hboot from when S-OFFed the phone, I will see what I can do about getting the original hboot and stock ROM into one package for everyone, and then perhaps write a tutorial for flashing them back individually. I MAY NOT, however, write the tutorial as I am still rather new and would not like to lead people into doing something the wrong way. I will also include the stock hboot in a seperate archive for those who have already downloaded this release.

This is the original system.img that comes on a brand new Vodafone Desire HD.
This image was dumped manually without Visionary messing with stuff, and Obviously the image is NOT rooted. It's completely stock.
This would probably be the best image to use if you're worried about returning the phone
Note: I have had to return a Desire HD to Vodafone who did not check that it was rooted and S-OFF'ed - So, don't worry too much.

Why is your file so much bigger than Kazuroka's original upload and also just wondering your method of extracting the img?
Thanks

[q] big help needed!

Hey everyone,so i will buy HTC Sensation tommorow and i allready want to install custom rom into it. Im pretty newbie at android as this will be my first android. So i wanted to ask? How do i install apps to android? I want to install apps, games freely. DO i need to s-off etc stuff..?
Also i want to install Android rEVOLUTIONARY hd rom,as i think it is the best, but it has different versions.. Wich one would you suggest to install? wich one is the best? Also it says that it is recommended to use Different Radio,as i downloaded the guide it says i need to eng s-off ,but i don`t know what`s the difference between normal s-off and eng s-off... Im from europe, lithuania, maybe i don`t even need to install different radio? Please help me,your help will be really appreciated,if you can, just drop the links to my asked questions,THANKS.
Sveikas
Good to hear some fellow Lithuanians are more and more into androids.
First- you said that you want a custom ROM. To install it you have to get S-off (security off)
Next- get clockwork recovery from the android store. The free version is enough. You will need this to put the ROM on the phone.
Everything else is ROM specific. Get the latest (not beta if you want it to be stable) version of the ROM and follow the instructions in it's topic.

TBH,
Just get the phone and play with it for a while.
You can install many many many Free Games and Apps from the Android Market.
If you don't have one already make yourself a GMail account, you'll need that when you get the phone.
Also when you add phone numbers make sure you add them as contacts to the Gmail account. That way if you decide to change ROMs later they'll automatically be Synced from GMail.
GL and have fun.
Thanks for the reply, but i really want different rom and dunno about installing games from internet(as a example i would like to install gta 3,i know that i need somehow to transfer sd files to sd card and then install .apk file? is that right?

You install them directly on the phone, either via a local WiFi or 3G. They are linked to your GMail account that was used when the phone is set up by you.
No transfers required when you install from the Market. If at a later time you change ROM, it'll ask you if you want to sync the apps and it'll re-download them from the Android Market.
Not tried GTA, I'll try now.
EDIT: Have you had an Android phone before ?
Nope, Sensation will be my first. But i didn`t understand? What do i install directly to the phone? You mean .apk file?
EDIT: 1 more question: DO I HAVE TO DO SUPERCID for my ROM????

OK,
Why have you decided you don't want the Stock ROM ?
Where are you trying to get the APK from ? You usually just install straight from Android Market ON THE PHONE. This installs the APK on the Phone as part of the process.
SUPERCID is to enable changing the RUU i.e. a different stock ROM, to a different carrier, or more universal one, e.g. RUU European.
Can you please explain what you are trying to achieve or trying to avoid doing.
well i`m from europe myself. and i want to install better rom, android revolution hd in my opinion. because i think it is better for me ,its is faster than stock rom but i don`t want to mess up anything...,and also if i install this custom rom,is there a way to get my old(stock one) back(i mean,if i don`t like it)? recovery or something else? or i just need to flash rom once again?

Once you have a custom recovery you can create a Nandroid backup and revert back. Or wipe and install another ROM, your choice.
How do you know what a "better" ROM is unless you've tried one ?
Faster is relative, You can change Kernels, or go to an AOSP ROM. How is the original one too slow when you haven't even tried it. Many folks base any change on look and feel.
So u suggest me do not install custom roms at all?
