Flashing question

So I used hardspl v1 and then flashed dutty's wm6.1 hybrid v2 rom to my tytn. Everything went well and it is working fine but I wanted to try out some other roms. Do I need to do anything in particular before trying other roms. I've been doing research and can't find any information on what to do now. Do I need to hardspl again before I flash another rom? Thanks for the help, I realize that its a noob question.

No. You do not need any additional process before you flashing to another ROM.
Hard-SPL is just a safety procedure that ensure your Tytn II not to be a brick when you flashing ROMs. Since you've got a Hard-SPL, there's no need to flash another one unless the old Hard-SPL has some bugs.

Awesome. One more noob question. If I want to flash a rom that has a radio included that is a lower version than the one I have currently what do I need to do? Remove the radio from the rom or will it flash without issue?
If the ROM includes a radio, it will overwrite whatever you currently have. So no need to do anything else.

you just flash the new rom with the radio... if u dont like the radio you can always flash the radio you want later on.

[Q] Newbie Fuze Question - HardSPL - Flashing Process

OK. I have a noob question that I couldn't find the answer for. I googled and searched the site. I've read quite a few of the threads here as well.
I'm coming to the Fuze from the 8525/Hermes. Now with that, I had to flash a stock ROM prior to every custom ROM. Is it that way with the Fuze as well?
Also, I understand that I need the HardSPL prior to flashing a custom ROM, but if I don't need the go off ATT, I really don't need super CID do I? There's no ExtROM with the Fuze?
Is there also a danger of bricking my Fuze be flashing too many radio ROMs, experimenting like there is with the Hermes/8525?
Again, thanks for your time.
I can't wait to start flashing my new toy.
Jim
You need to HardSPL the Fuze before flashing any ROMs. I don't have any experience with the 8525 so can't relate to what you had to do. I did have the Tilt and I had to do the same thing on the Tilt - flash a HardSPL before flashing ROMs.
You also don't need to flash a stock ROM prior to flashing a cooked ROM. Just flash straight and you're fine.

Thanks.
Just wanted to make sure so I don't brick my phone.
The thing about flashing stock ROM was going from Big Storage to Non Big Storage. I even had a stripped stock ATT ROM with no radio because the Hermes board reported bricks from repeatedly flashing radios.
Thank and again, sorry for the noob question.
Jim
Correct, you needed to flash the Hermes with a stock rom when switching between a big storage and non big storage rom. You won't have that issue with the Raphael.
Its a rule of thumb to flash with the stock rom before another custom, just so you are sure nothing is left behind. Although, by the way some of us flash, theres not that much time to do this.
I believe someone on the tilt forums explained all this in a thread about how the circuitry worked and how flashing will do to it. There isn't an exact number on how many times you can flash it, but just like any other device, the more the use, it will die down sometime. I believe that number in the thousands, but who knows if someone flashes that many times.

New ROM without rooting first

I'm pretty new to all this ROM stuff but have managed to install 2 or 3 ROMS over the past week. The only problems I've been having are the same as what everyone else has been posting. However, it turns out that I didn't rooted my Magic first before installing any of the ROMS. There doesn't seem to be any damage done and the phone still works as it should.
My question is, what's the benefit of rooting when I'm able to install the modified ROMS without rooting first?
PS. I have a Vodafone 32B
None AFAIK, the modified roms tend to be rooted anyway.

What enables you to flash any ROM out there, which is signed with a test key is a different recovery rom and a different SPL, which I assume you have on your phone since you can use different kind of roms. Rooting is not nessesary to install them.
Sorry. Should have made myself clearer. It's more about changing the SPL and Radio. Does this make any difference?

Best ROM-Emulator !?!?!

Hey everybody..
which is the best ROM-Emulator, so i can test the ROM's on my PC before flashing my phone ?
thx
So far I only know of one... and it's from the man himself. do a google search~
http://www.google.com/search?q=wm+6...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Also, I don't think you can load NBH files through the emulator. There's a size limit. You need to run a kitchen.
Well thx,
i can't chose another OS. I downloaded the Energy-ROM, but when I click on configure at the Emulator, I can't choose another ROM
Can anybody help ???
thx
I think if there would be good running emulator what could take different roms, we would not have so much bricks.
Most of the people would not flash so many roms to try out the best.
I think if u like a diff rom than u have to take the risk of flashing.

For the most part, the only people who truly brick their phones are people who can't read and follow instructions. An emulator isn't going to help them. Flashing a rom that doesn't boot is usually not a big deal; it happens frequently when you cook roms. Bricks occur when people flash the wrong hard spl, radio or unlocker. That's pretty much it. Even the guys who post that they flashed a gsm rom onto their sprint touch pro normally recover the phone when they flash a stock rom to it (assuming they figure out how to do it).

Really? honestly man, READING IS FUNDAMENTAL!!!!! If you just "managed" to get into recovery, I don't think you should be flashing a new ROM, not to mention a new radio. Please please please please do your research before you brick your phone.
ARHD thread gives you everything you need to know on how to flash their rom. There are numerous threads out there that document how to flash a radio and a ROM.
1. Download ROM
2. download ARHD superwipe
3. place ROM and superwipe on sd card
4. make a back-up using rom manager
5. reboot into recovery
6. data wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (found in the wipe section)
7. flash super wipe (you do this by choosing the option install from SD card, will take a minute or two and reboot you into recovery)
8. flash ARHD (same as super wipe directions)
9. reboot
10. Enjoy.
If you even ask me to be more specific, I'll blow up your computer. All of this information could have been found by searching and reading. Get it together before you destroy your phone. I wouldn't even recommend radio flashing until you do the proper research...THERE IS A THREAD IN THE DEV SECTION FOR RADIOS, that you clearly skipped over when you found ARHD thread.

You really don't need to mod edit with the radio at all. Just install AR and forget about the radio; if you ran the ace hack kit, the radio you have is the best one there is period.
will try that my radio is 12.56.60.25u_26.10.04.03_m the arhd says in there download post thart use a 12.62blabla radio what should i do about thatits my first time flashing i dont want to brick
i also read the radio post but i dont want to flash a radio but its kinda written that it will give you a better perfomance etc

Since your a noob here and because I was rather a jerk the first time around, I'll play nice..in short all RILS have a matching radio and it is recommended that you flash the proper RIL for the radio you're using. Since your a noob, it is important to note that when you flash a new ROM, the radio does not change just the RIL. Which brings us to the reason ARHD is recommending the 4.19 radio is because the RIL for that radio is included in their ROM. I have read that you don't have to flash matching RILs to your radio but I always do just for good measure. It has been stated that flashing the matching RIL for the radio you're using can lead to better performance, signal and battery life, etc. The RIL for 4.03 radio I believe is in the radio thread. Simply download the RIL file and flash in recovery, remember if you do flash a new RIL..ALWAYS MOUNT SYSTEM before you flash the RIL, which is found in the mount option in recovery
As already stated. Please know what you are doing before you so it. Would you load a custom OS to your PC without reading up on it first? Most likely not. Flashing a device is not for people that are tooo busy, tired, distracted or just lazy to read up on what they are doing. This can and has left people very upset with a non returnable brick due to not reading.
Also this is a development forum not a support forum. You are expected to at least try and fix your own issues by researching before opening a new thread.
