I usually use the black phone and ended up using the white one for a phone call to tech support about the black phone. I noticed the unlock buttons had a very different feel. The black phones button protrudes visually and is easier to push while the white phones is flush with the top and is harder to push. I have attached an image so you can see.
I would be interested to see whether others buttons look the same and how the the remaining 2 colors stack up.

That's wild... I can't take a pic of my phone with my phone but maybe I'll upload something for you later tonight.
My red MT4G's lock button is much like the black you posted in your picture - portrudes slightly and is pretty easy to find and push without looking
Maybe the white one has a defect?
I found it was the opposite for me. I have the white one and it protrudes, clicks, and is easily pushed. When I used the black one it was the opposite.
damn i thought i was the only one that noticed this lol. i had the white one since the phone came out and 2 weeks later i replaced it with the black one. the white one was a pain in the butt to press but the black ones button sticks out more and is very easy to push. i even had the problem when i texted in landscape mode i would turn off my phone all the time with the black one. i guess the palm of my hand always pushed the power button when texting, well i was texting fast the shut off or restart mode thing always popped up and i always hit restart or power lol.
Yeah, I have that issue sometimes when I push the black phones lock button unwillingly. Funny tradeoff.
My white one is flush, but easy to find and push.
I'll check the wife's purple tonight
Hmm, you probably are just used to it. I use the black one so I found the white one weird to use.
The power button on my red one sticks up a bit too, which caused me to have the issue of hitting it when texting in landscape mode as well. I solved that problem by switching to landscape mode the other way. So that the power button is actually by my right hand. It seems I don't push it with my forefinger on that hand when I'm texting. It was a bit awkward at first to remember the control buttons were switched to the other side, and when I went to flip it back to portrait mode I had it upside down the first few times, but I got used to that too.... Glad I'm not hitting the power button anymore though. Lol
my white one is also flush, i like it though. i havent had the chance to play with any of the other colors but id imagine its similar to my slides top button (raised)
My red one is flush.
I first had a black one and it stuck out quite a bit. A couple days later I exchanged it for a white one (liked white better later and I had creaky buttons) and the button on that one is almost flush.
Another quick pondering: The MT4G has two "different" manufacturing points (so far): China and Taiwan. I wonder if we can correlate the different button quality with manufacturing point.
Mine is slightly raised (Red) and was built in China

How do you tell where it was built?
Here are my pics. Made in Taiwan.

That reminds me...
How the hell do you get off the battery cover without ripping your thumbnail halfway off? I mean, I love that HTC built this thing so solid and tight, that's why I bought it, but ouch!
Oh yeah, Taiwan.
Maybe I have tough nails but I don't have any issues pulling the cover off
It's pretty strong I'll give it that, but not anything that strikes me as "hard"

Oh and yes...I think I have finally found a new sub-forum now so...HEY EVERYONE MY NAME IS REDRAZR7791
The battery cover is all about the angle. Here is a photo of what works well for me. Hold the phone firmly in one hand and approach like this applying slight pressure to the top of the battery cover. Works with manly short cut fingernails without any damage to the fingernail.
Made in Taiwan, white and ever so slightly raised. Prefect IMO actually

It seems that lately, when the phone slide is closed, I am able to separate the phone from itself by about 1mm to 1 1/2 mm...seems as if the sliding mech. is losing its hold on the phone (even by a bit)...
when I use the screen to type, I hear it clicking/taping against itself--
anyone else having this situation arise?
Slowly evolving into a tilt here...
Same here, it sucks. I will probably sell it before it is too much and then buy a Touch Pro 2. But Mine is loose on the side where there is no slide (left), it is still strong on the right side.
Mine's still good and pretty snug. I baby it tho. Still wondering for that first drop. I hate dropping my babies. Lol.
yea, mine is doing great,
Ive dropped it a couple of times, yet it still seems as strong as it was when i got it. I also have a snug fitting plastic cover on mine, so that helps it even more.
Service Manual for the HTC Touch Pro/Raphael
Mine got a bit funny too - after it came back from HTC service center for screen replacement. However, I'm planning on dissmanteling my Raph and check for loosen screws.
If you guys wanna give it a try too, I'm attaching a link for official Service Manual for the HTC Touch Pro/Raphael - it's a hardcore, step-by-step how to dissmantle Raphael down to the smallest pieces ....have fun!

i guess if push comes to shove I'll rip this baby apart and see if I need to tighten up some of the lose parts-IF it gets bad.
I baby my phone as well, and have only had it for 4 months.
Eh, if it's put back together, and it works, then that means these extra screws weren't that important to begin with.
First was buggy, now cool
My first fuze made a weird sound but i replaced it and I haven't heard anything from this one
I don't think screws would be the culprit. The slider is on rails isn't it? So the fix would be to bend/tighten/replace the rails?
Mine is getting a little sloppy. I hate having the volume buttons on the top screen portion too. Every time I try to press it, the phone will more apt to try to open then press the button in.
sometimes my sliding mechanism is a bit slow to catch up with the body i.e it can slide out ok, but if you look at the back of the screen when the kb is open, there's a small rectangle i guess where the ?cables go. sometimes mine stays there for a few seconds, then goes down. if this makes sense to people.

I was just wondering if everyone has the screen rippling issue when u press down on the screen. Also, based on people who have reported this issue, it appears to be a lot more common in white H1X's. Anyone care to share?
I noticed this in the store when initially checking out the phone before buying BUT it only seems to happen on the very edges of the screen and you need to press pretty damn hard to get it to do that. Hasn't actually affected real world usage for me since pressing the screen that hard is never necessary, especially on the outer edges.
Just tested mine out, no matter how hard or where I press I cannot get it to happen even a tiny bit. Apparently it only affects some devices.
You mean the same screen ripple that you see when you press on any LCD display?
I just tried on my phone while it displayed a white image and a black image, and I didn't see anything. But I can do it on my computer and TV. I thought that was typical of LCD displays.

it is, and especially on a phone this thin. I was told an explanation, but I can't remember for the life of me. But I never notice it from day to day use.

I assumed the ripple was because it's a Liquid Crystal Display.
Regardless, I've never seen it on mine. I have the dark grey one. Maybe some units have a thinner panel?
I actually know why this happens with HOX. Anal Torture & Tyranny told me to call HTC about replacing my phone. Talking with them explained my situation.
Phone where the lower right edge sits higher also causing a light leak, also causes the ripple is due to the battery cable inside the phone not sitting flush in the body. Also, there is a gasket that should be internal in the phone its basically electrical tape. Sometimes it rolls up causing the same problem.
Because of the battery cable not sitting flush it adds pressure behind the screen making the liquid crystal more prone to the ripple due to stress. Instead of flush in concave or convex depending on how you look at it.

i've seen this on all 4 devices i've had my hands on, and you don't have to press hard at all to get it.
Without going into a long story I just bought another 300 yesterday after returning the previous one. Upon opening and inspecting it I noticed what looks like a crack along the bezel trim in the upper left corner (in landscape) Between the power and volume buttons. Its right along the bend from the side the to the top. Ive had other 300's and never saw this on any of the others. But Im not 100% sure its a crack. It might just be a joint spot that wasnt aligned right and therefore the paint doesnt cover it. Using my thumbnail I pried slightly to see if the crack opened but it doesnt. Its still secure. So can anyone else verify that they can tell that this is a joint spot?
I also noticed a few things underneath the screen, and normally this would drive me crazy, but after all these returns and exchanges Ive gotten to the point where Im accepting flaws that just shouldnt be there. Its charging now from being totally dead so Ive only gotten a glance at the powered on screen to look for light bleed, and there is one pretty noticeable spot, but it looks like it might be a keeper as far as that goes. As long as I cant see the few particles under the screen when its powered on it wont bother me too much. But if that spot is indeed a crack its definitely going back. Thanks guys
Definitely a joint spot. Holding the tablet in landscape, the bottom two corners also have similar, though less defined, "cracks", but the top right corner does not. Is it the same with yours?

No just the power button corner for me. Pic attached.
After closer inspection I can see that all 4 corners are like that. But the one in the pic is worse. I think they just joined the pieces unevenly, and that caused the line to show up. Im just glad its not a crack.
Well, I wasn't actually referring to them as cracks (hence quotes). I could barely see the seam by the power button, and the other two seams are even less noticeable.
Are you sure you have seams in all 4 corners? Like I said, I only have seams in 3 corners (I've checked the 4th corner many times).

Yea there there in all 4. But only on the edge visible from the front. Very hard to see but there. I cant believe how soft the plastic is. I can see small dents where I pushed down with my fingernail trying to see if the "crack" would move. Wont be doing that anymore.
Hey guys, I've had my surface since friday morning with the touch cover and it appears that the windows logo on the kickstand is flaking off. I contacted Microsoft and they will replace it but I declined because it's something I don't care much about but to people who do care you may want to put an invisishield over it or something fyi.
I mostly have had the touch cover flipped back in tablet mode, I did put it on my car seat with it back down but the way the logo is coming off doesn't appear to be scraping, just circles of the paint gone and the magnesium looks perfect under it as well so I don't know, maybe somebody can make vinyl stickers of the logo with the exact dimensions because I would prefer another color or the actual multi colored windows logo, as it is I probably will try to wipe it off somehow so it's just blank.
Yes, I think we can safely conclude that the printing process has gone wrong somewhere. I went from perfect to this within it's first hours of use - I'm thinking the ink has reacted with salt/sweat perhaps!

Wow,
yours is much worse! Do you have a touchcover and keep it folded back? I do for mine so I was surprised to see it flake away but I don't care much for that logo anyway. Hopefully I can find a place that sells vinyl colored squares in different sizes I would like to replicate the new logo in color like Microsoft should have done.
its strange my logo doesn't seem to be chipping off like these photos but it does seem extremely faint in comparison. Had mine for about three days and it all seems okay at the moment apart from one tiny chip which is so hard to see.
I posted this last week. Glad I'm not the only one!

I tried reaching out to Microsoft, and nothing. No help.

I do - but it got to this state with so little use, just being sat on a desk, and handled very carefully (like you do with new gadgets) for only a few hours. It's clearly a manufacturing defect, and I'm sure many others will see this happen too.
It's not got worse though, and what's left seems to be quire hard wearing (annoyingly - I'd rather it all came off). Fortunately, I have a vinyl cutter at work, so will try to make something to put over it - perhaps a new style colour logo. Then again, the new style slanty squares Windows logo isn't coloured its it - just one colour...

I had the same issue, so I went to a MS store and had them swap my 64GB unit. Other than there being a lot of people in the store, there was no problem doing the swap.
Interesting... like some others have reported, mine has no chipping or anything, but the logo is very faint (seen from some seemingly reasonable angles and decent light, it's all but invisible). You can't feel it or catch a nail on it or anything, either. I wonder if different Surfaces have the logo printed on differently? Mine was a store purchase (on the first day), not a pre-order, in case that matters.
I have the scratching/chipping issue on my logo but my logo cannot be felt (I thought it was etched into the metal but apparently not) I am not entirely sure what to do about it, I have already sent back 1 keyboard due to it falling apart where it connects to the surface and the new one is doing a similar thing but not as bad the new one has a bubble right under the windows logo on the surface between the imprinted bar on the fabric and the plastic connector bit that attaches to the surface. The old keyboard had an issue in the same area except the fabric had actually come completely away from the black plastic connector and you could see the ribbon cable underneath.

I'm not concerned about any of the "issues" he has mentioned.
However, I am holding my Pixel 2 XL black that I just got today, and after 2 hours of playing with it, I'm having a couple of noticeable things that I really do not enjoy.
1) The display.
There is a real problem here. Not necessarily with the color accuracy, but with the actual display hardware. There's a nasty color banding effect going on when you just barely move your phone left and right, up and down.
There is a blueish tint that encompasses the entire display. It's actually a very negative experience to me, and I'm not sure I can ignore it.
2) For whatever reason, when the phone starts heating up, my hand starts sweating significantly worse than with a phone like the S8+.
Those are the two issues I've noticed now. However, I really love the speed of this thing. It's clear that somehow, Google optimized the OS for it.
Unfortunate that I'll likely be sending it back to Google. The display is bad. Like, really bad.
It seems that Google simply cannot nail down a device. There's always a legitimate issue lingering around.

Just reviewed the video again and I am really concerned how easily that actually cracked at the frame.
This is very serious from what I can see.

If you look at his fingers they turned white. That's a lot of Force being applied. Phone rarely in their lifetime will ever meet that type of force. I remember the iPhone doing this and every single one of my friends who have it still have their phones straight as an arrow.

He reviews the kinda blue version which I preordered.
I am wondering if the black or white version have a metal/coated metal power button. Only the kinda blue color has an accented power button, so hopefully it is the only plastic one. I would switch to black if that version is not plastic.

Unless i'm mistaken, My XL doesn't have plastic buttons.
Also I wonder if the Pixel XL will have the same bending situation. Considering its design is slightly different. Not that it matters to me, I never bend my phone and never sit down with it in my pocket.

Paint is technically a form of plastic, so I'm not sure why he was going out of his way to call paint plastic. Google is clear that the phone is painted.
I like the texture of the coating. But paint does seem like an odd choice in this day and age. Why not create a similar texture with a process like anodization? That's been done on phones before and is much more high quality. It seems like for the cost of the phone Google should have gone the extra mile.
But at the end of the day, I'd rather have a phone that might get some scratches or chips in its paint, than a phone with a glass or ceramic back that is brittle and super prone to shattering. Shattering seems like a much worse form of failure to me.
The bend test was disappointing though. I don't know how likely it is to be an issue for most people in real world use. But it didn't seem that hard for Jerry to bend the phone and given bendgate with Apple, you'd think other companies would have learned their lesson.
