[Q] Have you seen iMut8r?! - Android Apps and Games

I really like my Epic 4G, the openness of Android, but every time my brother comes across a cool iPhone app I feel like a second-class citizen.
An app like this one http://www.legacyefx.com/imut8r/gallery/
Or iDos (not the buggy/slow aDosBox)
Or Instagram
Who cares about openness if there's no choice?!

It works both ways. You can't get imut8r for Android, but you also can't get Camera360 for the iPhone, and ultimately, I think Camera360 is much more useful.
Personally, I lament that there aren't any decent pinball games available for Android, but I'm not going to get rid of a phone that suits my needs in every other way more than an iPhone ever could just so I can have a few pinball options. I have a ton of pinball games on my PSP anyway.

Why game so crappy?

I do have some fun games but I'm just wondering why they are nowhere near the quality as my girlfriends stupid iphone games? I have an htc magic. So it doesn't have a lot of power for games. When I get a more powerful phone will different games be available for me in the market?
yep, there are loads of awesome amazing games for android.
yes. once again. keep in mind about the psp phone and also the gingerbread release being reportedly being optimised for gaming. not to mention there are some quality games available right now though your htc magic like my htc hero wouldnt stand a chance to run them.

you need to get one of the newer generation phones to get some of the nicer games to play. this was one of the many reasons i got rid of my htc magic for the htc desire.
the only issue is that some of the better quality games are not on the market itself but on developer websites. such as hero of sparta or need for speed shift or other stuff like that. i don't personally like that as i prefer one place to find all the games but there are a lot of good games on android, especially now that a lot of game developers are coming to android also. an example of that are the developers of angry birds.
before the developers were hesitant to come to android as they didn't want to risk the time, but now with the popularity of android we're also getting more high quality developers, so we'll see more better quality games
cheers

Android or iOS? Which do you prefer?

Im just curious how many of you out there would recommend an iPhone over an Android phone or an Android over an iPhone. After being an iOS user since 09 and recently switching to Android, I would actually say that Android is my favorite. Just because of all the customization options I have and all the things I can do that I could of never done with an iPhone (even when jailbroken). Now I'd like to hear your opinion.

IOS.
Android FTW!
agreed with android ftw..
i do enjoy reponsiveness of ios and polished look. it just looks "nice"
but android ftmfw..
my friend had an iphone 4 and we jailbroke it and he was showing all the cool things you can do with jailbroken phones..
i was like wait.... what? my phone could do this before it was even rooted.
makes me sad that ios has sooo many features just "missing" that phones should have. or be able to do. i guess thats why its not open sources... =\
Actually I like iOS 'cause it's so stable and really really easy , thus leaving it for all ages to use. But it's really limited and therefore you jailbreak.
Android on the other hand is a very good OS too! It's very very versatile and you can custom it like you want. The only thing with Android is that it's kind of messy.
So to conclude iOS is an OS that you'll find attractive in first look and some months to come. Android is an OS that grows on you and you'll love it in the long-run.
Has anyone seen iOS5? Apple obviously stole almost every new feature from the jailbreak community then they stole notifications from Android. They need to come up with their own ideas.

They do that quite often! Same happend with iOS 4 with the wallpaper and multi tasking
I suspect you're going to get android as the majority answer here.
I'm over the ios>android or android> ios. They're different beasts with great qualities all around. I think ios is a simpler os in that really anyone can use it. At the same time, android's strength comes in its flexibility and customization. This doesn't suite everyone because really the majority of people just want an easy button. They can find that in android, they just don't have the patience to look.

I wouldn't neccesarily say that Apple stole multitasking from another OS/Device because its different. I mean, come on, its fake. I wouldn't say Apple stole the homescreen wallpapers either. Its an image that doesn't move and it isn't live. Basically, it makes it look a little better. No biggy.

If you want to use your phone as a phone with a little web browsing and a little Angry Birds playin', get iOS because its simple. If you want to make your phone the way you want it and you like customization, freedom, and the ability to to almost anything with your phone, get Android. =)

I would really like Ios, it's not a bad OS. Multitask, runs pretty decent, huge app store, but there are a couple reasons why I'm not on ios.
Flash, I use flash on my phone all the time. Keeps me entertained.
Screen size, 3.5" is too small for me.
Carrier, I'm on Sprint dammit.

I use an iPhone for the reliability of it. And because currently it's the only phone I have with FFC. I also use an Android phone because of the enjoyment of it and apps. I feel my Inspire is smoother and nicer than my iPhone, but not as reliable. The screen isn't nearly as good as the iPhone 4's, either.
I also use a WP7 device and feel WP7 will overtake bother other formats eventually. It's that good.
But right now I don't leave the house without my iPhone. I feel secure in the knowledge I can get ahold of someone shuld the need arise. My Inspire almost got my family and I lost once due to a malfunctioning compass and non-functioning nav.

Almost exact sentiment, except in reverse. My trusty Eris does all my heavy lifting for work-related tasks while my iPhone is my gps/playtoy. Haven't gotten my hands on a windows phone yet but they certainly are sounding more and more attractive these days!
iOS is too newbie friendly for me, no offence to the people on here btw, you guys are awesome
I went Android because I don't follow Iphone/Blackberry trends and I love it now

Thats a nice OS but a WP7 phone at work somehow got a virus and it wouldbt let the phone do anything and all it did when you turned it in was show a big smiley face with the bird finger. XD
So yeah unlike allot here i won't go FU on iOS.
Here is my subjective list of pro & contra for both systems.
Mind you i have used both.
iOSPLUS:
Stable
For it's money a well running piece of software built on that specific hardware
Fast
Simple to use
Design = top notch
Good service and reliable
Contra:
Hard to modify the feel of the OS
Forced to stay with all apple software (unless jailbroken) to downlaod upload music,etc..
Easy to jailbrake but still a challenge
AndroidPLUS:
Easy to use
Smooth and stable
Easy to modify and root
Customizable to a great extend
Perfectly combined with all Google products
Good service and help from google with personal calls explaining things
Contra:
Default FM can hang once in a while
Without root no way to do much or change much
Easier battery drain (personal opinion)
No updates for all the phone due to builds and limitations ( this is because there are so many companies producing Androids but all with different specs)
WP7Well really don't have much usage experience i did boot the emulator to check it out. Can't say it's ugly but doesn't look appealing either.
I believe that the OS probably is decent but it doesn't beg me to try it out
I think the WP7 is a good phone matching all other MS products. Like Xbox to phone connections and with Win8 it will be easy to look things up on your PC and share it with your phone if you godda go real quick. Win8 get's the same WP7 overlay.
All in all no real user experience so won't brake it down.
I believe it's a small correct list.
I can't say i hate either one of them but currently running android. Feels a Little slower then iOS but my biggest plus is all my Google Docs,Searches,G+,Mail,Pic are easy to acces with simple clicks from your phone.
Who the best is?
Think both are worth as much but if you like to mess around with your phone i would advise the android OS. Also you are more free to choose a phone to your liking then being forced a same look like the guy next to you in the train has.

Iphone 5 vs Galaxy S II?

Hey guys. Im on t-mobile right now and i was wondering if i should stay with em and get the Galaxy S II, or switch to verizon and get the iPhone 5 when it comes out later this month. I dont really care about services and all that. All i care about is the phone itself and which one is better and has more features and all that good stuff.
Thanks in advanced!
Remember! Im only 13. Gimme a break!
Well if you like playing games...get the iPhone.
For two reasons:
1) The App Store in general has higher quality games (and a much larger selection). (Real Racing 2, Infinity Blade, Rage HD, etc.)
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285162 The A5 has much better graphics performance than the Exynos.
On the other hand if you love modding and tweaking your phone, Android FTW! Jailbreaking is rather limited in comparison.

I can confirm that about Real Racing 2. I have it on my iPhone 4 and it's, to me, a smartphone version of Gran Turismo from the Playstation for gameplay and physics. Just a superb smartphone racing game. And the games on iPhone do tend to be superior.
Of course there is going to be a bias in this forum. However, all bias aside, what till the iPhones press release to see what it has to offer. Then decide if a functional phone (with all its downfalls in what I choose for a phone os, it is a very functional phone out of the box. Can't deny that) is for you, or if you like the freedom of android (where my bias lies ) choose that. Although android has flaws like ios, wp7 or any other, SGS2 did a great job of tackling some based on reviews I have read. Based on this and test driving them both, make your decision. Either way have fun with your shiny new toy. Also you could wait for the next nexus, which has me torn between that and the SGS2.

In all honesty this is like a PC versus Mac comparison. The Galaxy S II is going to be a remarkable phone specs wise, and going by the benchies I've seen the software is great to boot, but Apple is good at appealing to what some people want. An easy UI, while locked down, providing a great experience, but nonetheless I'm far from being an apple fan, with their locked down environment, you wonder why it's called jailbreaking when you root your phone? The fact of the matter is (to me), people are going to flock to the Iphone 5 because of the marketing hype, those in the know will grab the Galaxy SII because they know what's up.
im gonna have to agree to disagree. the galaxy s2 does have some great games as well made by non other Gameloft. asphalt 6 is great looking on the s2, you got games from EA like Need for Speed and many more...For the person who said you can tweak the galaxy s2 more than the iphone you are completely and utterly wrong. for me when i had my iphone 4 i tweaked it up so much it looked like a car out of pimp my ride once i finished with it..in cydia there are so many hundreds of tweaks and stuff that you can do is unbelieavable....also there is an application called dreamboard were you can change so many themes..go on youtube to check it out...
all in all though its down to you little buddy what you want to choose.. i have the galaxy s2 and im very happy...does what i need and my next phone will probably be the s3 if it comes out or shall i say when it comes out....but if you want quality games or shall i say more games then the iphone is the one for you...but true wait tilll they announce it and see what its like

The problem with the whole "Games" thing is that Apple was first to the punch, and they release a static platform, while me personally I dislike anything apple, the fact is that most companies that produce games go for what works, and sadly iOS is the first in line they develop for, stats wise though if they released games for the Android platform things would be much different, but I guess most people have an Apple on the brain so a lot of the good stuff we see for the iOS won't hit Android.

true true...but if you look we do have some amazing games for the android though...just because iOS gets first dips doesnt mean we dont have any good ones..and if you read you will see in the next few months dev will be working hard on bringing some exclusives games to android first but anyway if someone wants to buy a phone purely for games they might as well buy a console...
no offence but, I am kind of disappointed by this thread because it seems to me people here have gaming as their number 1 priority.
Dude he's 13. When I was 13 I played games all day on my iPod touch.
I am with Android all the way unless the Iphone comes out with dual GSM CDMA support built in then i am Iphone due to the fact that i like to travel with my phone and give my old phones to relatives over seas.

The only thing you can't do with jailbroken iPhone is change kernels, and cpu speed so saying it's limited is really wrong. Jail broken iPhone has lots of possibilities since the apps they have are way more polished than android apps. Idk why would you change cpu speed and kernels anyway they run flawlessly.

I finally had a chance to play with the SGS2 this morning. Although a very nice phone, I saw nothing better than the Infuse 4G. Everything the SGS2 has the Infuse has or will have except the dual core CPU and NFC. The Infuse display is not only the same as the SGS2, but is also larger. The styles are almost the same, except the Infuse uses an unbroken black-chrome bezel from front to back. The SGS2 uses a partial black-chrome surround around the front.
As for Gingerbread, the Infuse will eventually have that.
My suggestion would be to wait for the iPhone 5 and see how it fares.

Well for sgs 2 I do change my cpu speed. However not for overclocking, but for underclocking. The thing is that on 800mhz, it still runs like it is on 1.2ghz and can handle anything currently available, so why not just save my phone the waste of using my up battery on something unneeded.
Or...wait for the Nexus Prime. Not only will it decimate iPhone 5 AND the SII specwise, it'll be loaded with ICS. iPhone is seeing the end of it's days and Apple knows it. Thats why all the "groundbreaking" and "game changing" features they're introducing with iOS 5, are features that already are, and have been available on Android since 1.0. They're blatantly copying Android to keep the iPhone relevant. And even if you do go with the SII, it will probably be seeing an ICS update not long after the Prime is released, so you're SII will have just become better(again) than the just released iPhone. Simple decision I think...
At the end of the day, Samsung will always be miles ahead of Apple when it comes to hardware, with things like screen quality and processing power; and this is because Samsung is competing against other manufacturers such as HTC and Motorola, because android users can choose more than one handset (thank God.)
However Apple doesn't really need to compete, its got a following of...I'm not sure tbh, but its enough to make them the richest company in America.
I'm far from a fan of Apple, but I doubt they're too bothered when it comes to who releases the better handset; considering the fanboy following they have.
Well spec wise, i think the Iphone 5 will come out on top with it's sgx 543mp2 GPU. if it performs practically more than 100% better than the Mali on the sgs2 when running a 720p gaming benchmark test, well that's just a huge facepalm right there.
And as said if you want gaming, the iPhone 5 is your bet for now. The iOs platform holds the gaming spotlight right now and will prolly till say the next yr or 8 months till it will share the spotlight with android.

You can do more on Android. But they both have their negatives and positives. Don't listen to the guy under you. When you buy a phone its what the user wants. Android runs fine if you don't buy low budget devices. Battery life and performance is the is subjective on any device. By area you live and network your on. Nothing really works better than the each other. It's easier to make money for developers on ios than android. Because there are hardly any hardware differences on Apple so you will find more apps on Apple app store.

If you like modify your phone buy something with Android but you must to be ready for this that your phone will not have an every update as in iPhone because on Android market there is a large fragmentation of different phones.
You just need to look..
I have a low budget Android Phone (LGE Optimus One) & my friend with his apple iPhone 4 feels like he wasted money on his apple..
You can customize Android to look like iOS, Windows7, MIUI and many other UI's like Lewa, HTC Sense etc. Even my 600Mhz processor runs ICS..
As for apps distribution, there are lol how can i count apps on Google Play store, and even apps that are incompatible for low end phones like mine get ARMv6 patched versions to download..
So if u spend the amount of money as for iPhone on Android, you can burn the apple..

I watched, and didn't see anything that isn't available on Android either by default or with an app. Different keyboards, themes, panoramic camera, etc. are all available on Android without jailbreaking and using an alternative market.
Personally, I switched to my Galaxy Nexus in December after four years of using an iPhone and never looked back. The only thing I miss is FaceTime, and there are alternatives for that anyway. If you have any desire at all to change things on your phone, Android is the way to go.
It depends
You asked if you can "do more" on one rather than the other. The answer is not simple, but it comes down to a matter of preference. My preference is Android - it gives me the freedom I want over my device.
Android equals pure freedom on your phone and total control over it

Android has soooo many options it's rediculous. An iphone is the same as my androids app drawer. =P
What you want is a Nokia man. The most robust phones in the world today
android has so many roms and apps, you can choose the fastest rom for yourself.
i owned an iphone before and then went to android OS i have never looked back and all my latest phones run android there is so much more i can do with my android than on my old iphone
Android Its ....
Android, its open source.. so many developers can build many application tha fit my need.. because its open, the price relativelly cheaper than iphone...
Iphone, it seted up in my mind, that device hardlly exclusive, with all aplication exclusive only for iphone user.. not open.. and more expensive..
i prefer android device.. i paid cheaper for most app on google play.. custom rom, custom kernel.. even though i only consume it..
There's no correct answer to this question. It's like asking, "Which is better... a sports car or a speed boat?" They're both great, but are you on a road or a lake?
The real question is which one suits you best and no-one can answer that but yourself.

Now, telling me, which one you can do MORE

Keep using it and just change it whenever Apple release a rev-up iOS, still more amazing
I don't know what is wrong with both android and ios fanboys they all like to spread bull crap about each others devices and give out misinformation. My JB iphone does everything my rooted android phone does. There are tons tons of apps in the cydia store that helps customize your home screen and do all kinds of stuff. What it really comes down to is app qaulity, because you can only do customization so long. Android is badly beat when it comes to amount of apps and the quality of them and that's for both official and non official (cydia apps) apps. I tell you both android and ios fanboys disgust me with the garbage they sprew about each others platform. Its great being part of both worlds and knowing the truth.

There is none, check any iphone forum and ask if you think I'm mistaken. Its not possible even on a jb iphone because of how ios works.
Again what about capturing your phones activities on video like screencast? Not possible even on jb so no its not being a fanboy to say jb iphone can do all an android can because thanks to ios limitations it really can't.

Why iPhone applications or games always ahead android?

Hi all,
I've been a both android and iPhone user. And for now I've switched back to android for Galaxy S3 because it has much bigger screen and wanna try how fast it is. However, it's my feeling I think not quite different from 4S, even 4S can respond fast in every game and application compared to galaxy. I don't know why... just feel like that during the time I use it.
One more thing is that I wonder why almost every game or application under the same name from iPhone, got available ahead of android and most of them have much more features and quality than android as well, eg., asphalt 7....
Sometimes, I feel so sad about this...
So I am waiting to read about all of your opinions on this matter...
Thanks,

the S3 & 4s or Android v appl. ????

One more thing is that I wonder why almost every game or application under the same name from iPhone, got available ahead of android and most of them have much more features and quality than android as well, eg., asphalt 7....
Sometimes, I feel so sad about this...
So I am waiting to read about all of your opinions on this matter...
Thanks,

It's because of the I in front of it. Apple have hacked the Android Play Store to check an online database of Iphone Apps, and if any developer tries to put an app on the Play store, the Apple Virus checks if the same app is already available for the Iphone. If it's not, it will delay the Android app in Stealth mode, and send the sourcecode to Apple. Apple will then convert the app for IOS, put an I in front of the name, and release it for Iphone. As soon as they do, the name with the I in front of it gets transferred to the remote database, signaling the Apple virus that this particular app is now available on Iphone, and it's safe to come out of Stealth mode and release the app into the Play Store, but upon release, the virus cuts out 2 or 3 random features. They did this so they can claim that they always have apps faster then Android, and with more features. Now you know.
Apple has a very limited set of devices which they have to support in their OS. Thus much more optimization can be done to "smooth" such things. That said, I find JB with Project Butter quite impressive in this regard.
But with owning a non-Nexus Samsung device you are not in the best hands regarding non-bloated and smooth firmwares.

What you said seem a very big concern between them. Excuse me, but Where you get the information from?

Hmm, like what you said I should go to one "smooth" is better then holding many types of devices which is good only in shapes and spec but doesn't have quality. I still don't know how Google encourage their 3rd party devs to make one good app or game for android. As to hacker307 said seem play store is a cow-don't fix.

I regularly eat apples. Sometimes they tell me stuff.
Apple has far better system integration with their line of products. A good example is the iPhone 4S which has inferior spec compared with similar priced Android phones, but still it runs much more smooth than most of the android phone. Because every iPhone 4S is exactly the same, so software developer knows exactly how their software will perform on those units, and hence much more easier to optimize performance.
As to why iOS games is always ahead of Android, I believe that has a lot to do with the eco system of AppStore and Google Play respectively. iOS is more profitable than Google, but that is just my guess.
I can't understand what u have found about this two devices. I own an ipod 4th gen and I can say that my galaxy s plus is faster. I know iphone is the most beautiful but not the best at specs... I am sorry my friend. Also about the hacking is correct...

I think you are right, that is the reason. Dev`s tend to develop apps/games to get the most profit first.
I believe that all apple devices are pretty much the same since the first one so so application's can be made more quickly and easily. But android phones are made by different companies using different hardware so harder for developers
