Android or iOS? Which do you prefer? - General Topics

Im just curious how many of you out there would recommend an iPhone over an Android phone or an Android over an iPhone. After being an iOS user since 09 and recently switching to Android, I would actually say that Android is my favorite. Just because of all the customization options I have and all the things I can do that I could of never done with an iPhone (even when jailbroken). Now I'd like to hear your opinion.

IOS.
Android FTW!

agreed with android ftw..
i do enjoy reponsiveness of ios and polished look. it just looks "nice"
but android ftmfw..
my friend had an iphone 4 and we jailbroke it and he was showing all the cool things you can do with jailbroken phones..
i was like wait.... what? my phone could do this before it was even rooted.
makes me sad that ios has sooo many features just "missing" that phones should have. or be able to do. i guess thats why its not open sources... =\

Actually I like iOS 'cause it's so stable and really really easy , thus leaving it for all ages to use. But it's really limited and therefore you jailbreak.
Android on the other hand is a very good OS too! It's very very versatile and you can custom it like you want. The only thing with Android is that it's kind of messy.
So to conclude iOS is an OS that you'll find attractive in first look and some months to come. Android is an OS that grows on you and you'll love it in the long-run.

Has anyone seen iOS5? Apple obviously stole almost every new feature from the jailbreak community then they stole notifications from Android. They need to come up with their own ideas.

They do that quite often! Same happend with iOS 4 with the wallpaper and multi tasking

I suspect you're going to get android as the majority answer here.
I'm over the ios>android or android> ios. They're different beasts with great qualities all around. I think ios is a simpler os in that really anyone can use it. At the same time, android's strength comes in its flexibility and customization. This doesn't suite everyone because really the majority of people just want an easy button. They can find that in android, they just don't have the patience to look.

I wouldn't neccesarily say that Apple stole multitasking from another OS/Device because its different. I mean, come on, its fake. I wouldn't say Apple stole the homescreen wallpapers either. Its an image that doesn't move and it isn't live. Basically, it makes it look a little better. No biggy.

If you want to use your phone as a phone with a little web browsing and a little Angry Birds playin', get iOS because its simple. If you want to make your phone the way you want it and you like customization, freedom, and the ability to to almost anything with your phone, get Android. =)

This might ne 101st thread of iphone vs android topic and this thread will just encourage flamers.
And on side note.. U like android over ios... Cool.. There are millions who do for the same reason as you do. Nothing special.

I would really like Ios, it's not a bad OS. Multitask, runs pretty decent, huge app store, but there are a couple reasons why I'm not on ios.
Flash, I use flash on my phone all the time. Keeps me entertained.
Screen size, 3.5" is too small for me.
Carrier, I'm on Sprint dammit.

I use an iPhone for the reliability of it. And because currently it's the only phone I have with FFC. I also use an Android phone because of the enjoyment of it and apps. I feel my Inspire is smoother and nicer than my iPhone, but not as reliable. The screen isn't nearly as good as the iPhone 4's, either.
I also use a WP7 device and feel WP7 will overtake bother other formats eventually. It's that good.
But right now I don't leave the house without my iPhone. I feel secure in the knowledge I can get ahold of someone shuld the need arise. My Inspire almost got my family and I lost once due to a malfunctioning compass and non-functioning nav.

Almost exact sentiment, except in reverse. My trusty Eris does all my heavy lifting for work-related tasks while my iPhone is my gps/playtoy. Haven't gotten my hands on a windows phone yet but they certainly are sounding more and more attractive these days!

iOS is too newbie friendly for me, no offence to the people on here btw, you guys are awesome
I went Android because I don't follow Iphone/Blackberry trends and I love it now

Thats a nice OS but a WP7 phone at work somehow got a virus and it wouldbt let the phone do anything and all it did when you turned it in was show a big smiley face with the bird finger. XD

So yeah unlike allot here i won't go FU on iOS.
Here is my subjective list of pro & contra for both systems.
Mind you i have used both.
iOSPLUS:
Stable
For it's money a well running piece of software built on that specific hardware
Fast
Simple to use
Design = top notch
Good service and reliable
Contra:
Hard to modify the feel of the OS
Forced to stay with all apple software (unless jailbroken) to downlaod upload music,etc..
Easy to jailbrake but still a challenge
AndroidPLUS:
Easy to use
Smooth and stable
Easy to modify and root
Customizable to a great extend
Perfectly combined with all Google products
Good service and help from google with personal calls explaining things
Contra:
Default FM can hang once in a while
Without root no way to do much or change much
Easier battery drain (personal opinion)
No updates for all the phone due to builds and limitations ( this is because there are so many companies producing Androids but all with different specs)
WP7Well really don't have much usage experience i did boot the emulator to check it out. Can't say it's ugly but doesn't look appealing either.
I believe that the OS probably is decent but it doesn't beg me to try it out
I think the WP7 is a good phone matching all other MS products. Like Xbox to phone connections and with Win8 it will be easy to look things up on your PC and share it with your phone if you godda go real quick. Win8 get's the same WP7 overlay.
All in all no real user experience so won't brake it down.
I believe it's a small correct list.
I can't say i hate either one of them but currently running android. Feels a Little slower then iOS but my biggest plus is all my Google Docs,Searches,G+,Mail,Pic are easy to acces with simple clicks from your phone.
Who the best is?
Think both are worth as much but if you like to mess around with your phone i would advise the android OS. Also you are more free to choose a phone to your liking then being forced a same look like the guy next to you in the train has.

Android tablets need work--alot of work...

Just returned from Xmas shopping and thought I was going to get some tablets for family members but found them to be frustratingly slow when compared to the iPad--which is what people are going to do, even though they shouldn't, they're going to. Google did announced that Android <2.2 is simply not ready for tablets and I couldn't agree more.
I have an iPad at home and the cheapest iPad competes successfully with the best tablets Android has, the Dell Streak and Samsung tab. Those tablets are <$600, so's the iPad. Unless there's a specific reason why you'd rather use an Android tablet when the screen is smaller and the whole tablet is overall slower, the choice is easily iPad.
I heard a shopper try to use one and comment how slow Android is. I showed him my Evo to tell him that Android's still in progress, it'll get faster. Unless you don't mind paying for $300 or less for frustration, (inexpensive) Android tablets are just not ready. I hear Honeycomb will have a tabler-optimized system.
** mind you, I'm a Phandroid so...
Couldn't agree more. The galaxy tab is an embarrassment. I tried using one in a store the other day and got 3 force closes in ten minutes, plus a jerky UI and ****house resolution.
I liked the Tab a lot, thought it was really great. Didn't have any issues with it when I played it with it. But I agree to an extent. Problem is, most Android tablets are made poorly. Archos is about the only one that has made decent tablets aside from Dell and Samsung. It could be better though, I'll say that. Right now Android is suited for mobile phones. For a good reason, it's a phone OS.
More reason to look forward to honeycomb. The flagship Google tablet should set the standard for android tablets.

Yes! And they're going to kick butt. Apple optimized the iPhone's OS for three years before they brought out the iPad. Android is only about three years old, isn't it? I just hope that the crappy tablets out there now haven't damaged Android's rep.
Or Google should've just thrown ChromeOS on tablets. Chrome is basically what I use on my Ubuntu powered netbook. I rarely see the desktop anymore.
I have had a galaxy tab for about 27 days..I also have an ipad that i've had for awhile....I like the tab but it's going back tomarrow...Had 3 and all 3 had dead pixels..I think the screen is better than ipad and using the apps and playing with OS is peppy like my Vibrant but start browsing and it becomes sluggish...Some sites are much worst than others...The stock browser is by far the slowest thing ever..dolphin hd is better but still sluggish..I tried all browsers and disabling flash/plugins and different settings ...No matter what i try browsing is not smooth like my ipad...I hoped a fix came out or a ROM that would fix the laggy browsing but nothing yet....I really like the tab because of A: Android OS vs the boring basic ios4 and B: The screen is better than my ipad...While the ipad screen is very nice the tab is better and once samoled starts coming on them ohhh my!
Google had plenty of time to make the OS smooth, 2.3 is a big fail. I don't know what google has given to people but everyone believes that android will be the next big thing. Seems like we will never reach the promised land.
People had so much expectations about gingerbread, new UI, gpu accelerated graphics, the smoothness, new integration with social networking... Instead you get a 2.3 with a new keyboard and few little things people don't care.
After 2 yrs and some the OS still is not smooth, it lacks in visual appearance, the apps are crap. I don't know how much longer i'll stay with this OS. Everytime i get a new phone is always read the stickies, flash new roms rinse and repeat. I am so tired of this, i don't know how long is going to stay like this but is like google doesn't give two ****s about it.
I bought an ipad this past weekend, jailbroke it, and started installing apps and end of story. I have games that i have fun playing with and apps that doesn't look like crap. If iphone had 3g in tmobile i'd consider getting an iphone.

It seems like you're the type that just wants their computer to work..[period]. This is not a criticism, you must just not be interested in hacking and modding your phone and why should you have to? There are so many choices out there, you don't have to use an Android phone--unless you were forced into using one.
Some of the apps are crap and some are are not but the choice is yours. The good apps filter to the top and bad ones never surface. I only choose apps that are four stars or better so my apps aren't crap--not to me at least. Don't you think that sort of freedom is nice? I do!
I, for one am glad that Google doesn't give two-****s about it ( I think they do ), it's an open source project and what you do with "your" phone is up to "you". We've never had this sort of freedom and I'm grateful we finally have it. But you don't have to try new ROMs or read any stickies if you don't enjoy it. I know Android phone users who have absolutely no plans to ever root their phone because they're happy with the way the carrier set it up for them--great!
I came from the Blackberry world and the only thing I could do with that was change the wallpaper and the size of the fonts *yawn*. RIM did everything for me and I had no clue what they were doing. Also, I've had Apple products, they magically patch things for me--what's going on? I'd like to know... Apple says, "no you don't--just use it, m'kay?" Microsoft does the same... No... Let's keep this open, I'm having a blast!

Oh? I didn't know that about WinMO. I think that to a point you can hack and mod anything you want. I've seen OS 7 running on an iPhone and thought that was impressive but have no idea if that's difficult or not. But that's not Apple's corporate philosophy where as AOSP, by definition will lends itself to extensive modification and is almost encouraged--man, I've dreamed of this.

The UI has different elements from previous versions, but this isn't the first time this happened. This happens with other platforms all the time. Windows Phone 7 for not having Copy and paste off the bat, or any decent homebrew support. Apple with the lack of multitasking, or Blackberry with something actually new and specs that can rival current Android phones!

It's not just google mind you, Google can only do so much. If you're gonna blame Google, then you have to blame Qualcomm, Samsung, TI, HTC, etc etc for making the phone and some of the drivers. And I don't know about you, but I didn't flash a new rom every day now. I just get a rom that's best for me, and if it needs updated, I update it. Same thing with stock roms. If Google didn't give 2 ****s about it, then why is Google still supporting Android as much as they are? I like the UI of Android a lot. Easy to customize and change, where as for the longest time in Ios and mostly still now, black background? Windows Phone 7, black background or a different color? For the apps, it's open source. That's what the reviews in the Marketplace are for. I've have good experiences with the apps.

Ios is also completely locked down in terms of development. Iphone 3g is also nothing compared to current Android phones now. An Arm11 v6 cpu, versus say an Arm Cortex a8? About 400-440mhz underclocked from 600mhz or so, versus even the Droid only being clocked at 550mhz, but having a huge advantage of better instruction sets and Adreno gpu? You obviously haven't done much homework either, Tmobile will support Iphone on their network, and there's even unlock codes in Cydia available. All you need to do, setup a plan with Tmobile, and get a Tmobile Sim card for that plan. It might now have the 3g network enabled, but there's your Iphone for you.
I'm not bad mouthing Apple, Iphone, Windows, Microsoft, WP7, or anything like that. But Apple has complete control over the Iphone and Ios(There isn't even an AT&T logo on the Iphone), WP7 is still young so we'll see how it turns out, and Android is still growing.
I would agree that the iPad is much more advanced. But the Galaxy Tab is pretty decent and I actually love the color nook. It is great for what it does...
Once released, Honeycomb should have a positve major impact on new futere Tablets.

I completely disagree. You must not have done your homework well. Right now the best tablets are the tegra tablets. They own the ipad in every way possible and are receiving alot of development. As far as I know there are 4 out now: Toshiba Folio 100, Viewsonic G Tablet, Advent Vega, and the Elocity 7". I'm on the Viewsonic G Tablet, so far the rims developed by our Dev team are 1337! They can play flash, have full market, and are hella fast!

[Q] which is better iphone or android ?

Which OS is good, reliable and stable, android or iphone?
Honestly, they are both good, reliable and stable operating systems and each has their own strengths and weakness. Its really a question of personal preference. I prefer android and the open source nature of the system, and am not a fan of the highly proprietary apple brand. Both OS are good, but you have sooooo many more options when it comes to android over iOS, from the phones to apps and more.

I have an HD2 running CyanogenMOD 7, an HTC Inspire 4G unrooted running Android 2.2.1 (FroYo) and an iPhone 4. I also have a Samsung Focus running Windows Phone 7.
Out of all of those the Androids (HD2 and Inspire) are the most fun to use. They work flawlessly and have more convenience features than my iPhone 4 or Focus. Nevertheless, my iPhone 4 is my main phone and is the primary phone I take with me all the time. The reason being is because it is the most reliable system ever created. The Androids, for me, work flawlessly, but are prone to issues from what I've observed from other people. And my Inspire, in the beginning, almost got me lost because of a screwy compass and non-functioning Google maps app (maybe due to GPS or lack of data signal). Since a subsequent update the Inspire has been flawless.
But I trust my iPhone 4. It may not have the convenience of a free voice guided nav like on the Androids, but I can manage fine with the maps system it does have. Nonetheless, I love Android and feel it is superb and would not be without it.
Decipher through that and see if I declared one over the other.
Both have their strengths although i think at the moment android has more strengths as Apple is playing catchup with the iphone5 and iOS 5. I like androids open source nature and its general layout is just 'cooler.' Most android users go on and on about fanboys but the truth is almost all iphone users are not fanboys, infact i didnt even know ABOUT android until mid 2010! That's how bad their marketing (and how good Apple's) was. Most have been duped by Apple's excellent marketing which they've done fantastically over here in Australia and don't realise there are other options.
Both. The choice between the two is simply personal preference.

better overall experience def. android
apps/games are 1-2 yrs ahead in terms of innovation and smoothiness: iphone
Depends on what you like to do with your phone...if you like to explore your phone 360° in complete liberty i'll remand you to an android device...if you like apple style get an iphone
I prefer android devices.
My friends have had nothing but problems with their iPhones.
Buddy had 2 iPhone4's die out on him in a month (speaker, microphone and one just wouldn't hold a charge) and he's since upgraded to an Arc (android).
I believe it's personal preference, but if your buying a new phone then the iPhone just can't compete... Think about it, the iPhone4 is old technology. There are new insanely powerful and innovative Android devices released every other week...
Let me put it this way. Galaxy S vs Iphone4 is/was a toss up. Side by side reviewers often gave them ties or a slight edge one way or the other. The Galaxy S is over a year old and the new Android devices are lightyears ahead of it. If you read a review that DOESN'T say a phone like the Arc destroys, yes, destroys, the iPhone4 in every category then the reviewer is likely a fanboy/on the Apple payroll.
I'm sorry, but it's an old phone. Besides, the o/s are completely different styles. It's a lot like the original windows vs mac vs linux debate. Mac=iPhone, Android=Linux (literally)... Both excel at different tasks and each has a loyal fanbase... It's all preference without question in terms of OS. In terms of hardware I don't think there's a comparison with any new phone.
Neither, my friend. webOS is the better os.
Android......Anyday
I feel the iPhone is outdated with regard to hardware. I mean, the old galaxy s which came out before the iPhone4 is better than the iPhone 4, let alone all these new phones. People say gaming on apple devices is better. Never Understood how. I mean, it's the same games and the same developers and android gets all the more important and good games
I personally prefer Android, because I like the open source nature of the system. I love that there are so many Android device options out there now. However, I do have to admit that iPhone has that extra something that somehow android devices just haven't mastered yet. A touch response is like a .000000098 seconds faster in iPhone vs. Android phones, but I can tell there's that little bit of .000000098 seconds lag....lol. But bottom line--Android for me
As a lead support tech for a large company, I have to answer this question every time I respond to a smartphone issue, because the user always ask, should I have something else or will X product give me less trouble?
Really, it all comes down to personal preference. Some people only use a phone for a very limited set of tasks(email, phone, games), and in those cases it comes down to which hardware/cellular provider the user wants.
I like to use mine for any and everything as it helps me every minute of every day either at work or with personal stuff, and since I am a techie and like to tweak my device to my liking I prefer a rooted Android device.
Rooted HTC Thunderbolt
both os are good.but i prefer Android...iphone is nothing for me
In all seriousness, iPhone. A jailbroken iPhone 4 is really an incredible piece of hardware, and especially with iOS 5 the software is second to none. Compared to any Android phone, it has a more complete feature set and fewer bugs and problems. It's a more mature, more slick overall system.
That said, I use Android. I think Android is really, really awesome and there's some fantastic hardware out for it. And it's overall much cheaper to be an Android user on Sprint than an iOS user on AT&T and Verizon.
I like the Android the best, definitely
But then again i havent really used an iPhone, only my moms, lol.

They both have pros and cons. Android is the one to choose if you enjoy customizing you phone and messing around with it with some extra functionalities. WP7 is more usable out of the box and is smoother, but it's quite locked down as a platform. Anyway you describe yourself like a pretty average user, so it seems like WP7 could be a better option for you.

I agree. Although, you might find that the openness of Android is a ton of fun. You might find yourself not so average after all. I suggest you play around with the phones at a store and get a feel for them.
Yes; openness begets depth, naturally. Guess it all depends on how you wish to use your device. Apparently, if you're looking for the smoothest homescreen, dialpad and keyboard response then WP7 is for you. If not, and willing to sacrifice microsecond differences, as well as a wealth of opportunity and option, Android might be more your thing.
Kidding aside, just depends on what you're looking for.

Nice one, chicken.
If your really into games, Androids your choice, plus its got some pretty sweet music apps with customisable eqs, crossfade, you name it. Imo mango's more fluid as in smoother than Android
In the end it all depends on you. Why don't you check them both and see for you self
I'm checking Mango, it's quite smooth system, although I miss some features and freedom from Android.
i like android better, because of its many functionalities, plus you get a lot of free apps that makes your android experience better .
What carrier do you have? With sprint there is only one windows phone and i would tell you to choose most android phones over it.
My recommendation is for Android, open source and highly customizable.
For your needs, I'd go WP7. Android is better for those who want to tweak and hack their phones but if you want an overall better experience for the things you listed in your initial post, then I'd go WP7.
I actually bought and iPhone 4s, thinking UI fluidity was the most important thing, and while everything ran great I couldnt do everything I wanted I couldn't save links as, or download mp3s from websites basic things an Android can do. I ended up selling and getting gs 2 for sprint, it isn't as smooth but honestly I know now that it doesn't really matter because I can do anything freely. Most apps are free, great community support, free tethering removal of carrier iq etc etc I'm really happy with it. Windows is smooth as well but that just isn't enough these days

I would (and have) gone with android with a HTC Sensation XE and i think personally android is way better than WP7
Sold my HTC HD7 last week cause the content is still far behind Android, there's not even a dropbox app on it
Maybe 1 year from now, i might consider again buying a windows phone but now it is still Android hands down. And Ice cream sandwich is coming. gpu accelerated UI and apps. Better animations so wp7's smoothness won't be so much of an advantage anymore. That's why i came back to android.
And the games for windows phone almost all are craps.
More device options with Android, Windows has better cloud capabilities.

why dropbox when the cloud is integrated immensely well. Also, I've had much more fun on wp7 games than android plus I dig gamer points.
I was at at&t today and the looked at android and wp7 although wp7 looked smoother u really can't do much with it to customize. Now im getting android so does anybody know anything about lg thrill. Thanks for all the input.
I prefer Android by a large margin because it's open system, easy to customize, just works better for me. My present phone is an HTC Sensation but I also have an old HTC HD2 that is dual boot with both WP7 and Android and while I enjoy puttering around with Windows there is no way I could do without Android as my main phone OS.

Android vs Apple, voice you opinion...

What to say to apple fans trying to manipulate a layman, into buying an apple, in laymen terms? Or what's the ultimate android to apple bash? Or what's the best reason to buy android vs apple? One of the main reasons I wanna know what other people would say, especially to their friends or family. I've never touched a Mac nor will I ever so I can't really say anything but tech specs, so that's my main reason to start this thread. Plus... I also wanna hear if other people are as sick as I am just hearing the freakin word, "Apple".

before i use Apple, i thought it is the best phone, but after i use apple iphone 4, i find it is good but with so many limitions, cannot download the useful apps is not good.till now, i can only download the apps from app store. while android is much better than iphone, my husband's galaxy s2 hd lte is good enough.
Why is there an apple sub forum in xda. Wont it be a head ache for the mods to get the spam out of it?
Ontopic. My brother has an apple and he can't stop bragging about it. Apple this apple that. I don't know what so big of a deal with it. Its also costs damn too much. I do accept its a bit fast and little stuff but that would be cause I have a wildfire.
Also it only varies based on its memory Rom (or whatever they call it) . No different styles no different sizes. But android ranges from big to small powerful to low powered.
Maybe I say this cause I only used android but I'm not gonna use iPhone any time in the future.

Customisation is Android's Strong Point!
I would say try an iPhone and try an Android phone - the iPhone will let you do so much, but then it will give you a brick wall which you can't jump over. The Android phone, on the other hand, will give you a blank canvas which you can turn into a Picasso or a Rembrandt, depending on your tastes.
Android = customisation, at its best.
iPhone = standardisation and closed ecosystem (at its best).
It all boils down to preferences anyway. I'd stick with Android though. I just can't stand the fact that iPhone's UI is a glorified app drawer. BORING.
I purchased an iPhone 4 the first month it came out. I had never owned a smart phone before this. I thought it was fun to play around with but I eventually got really bored of it. After 3 months I really didn't understand the hype behind the phone. I gave it to my dad and went back to my 5 year old Sony Ericsson which was WAAAAY more customizable than the iPhone, even though it was very old. With the iPhone I felt like someone was cutting my steak for me and cleaning my mouth, but with the Sony Ericsson I could choose whatever type of Steak I wanted and make it myself, constantly trying new seasonings. I know that was a terrible metaphor, but whatever.
In January of last year I picked up an HTC Inspire 4G. The first month my grades dropped because of how much fun I was having. I rooted it, installed a custom ROM, playing GBA/SNES/N64 games, and did everything I could do on my PC on my phone. I even edited microsoft word documents before sending them to my teachers straight from my phone. It was a whole new world. I could literally do anything with my phone.
Over the summer I bought a Galaxy S2 i9100, and I still have it. Best. Phone. Ever. Created. I skype with my friends using the front facing camera, watch HD videos while exporting to my HD TV, and connect a mouse and keyboard and surf the web while on vacation. I even leave my laptop at home when I travel on short trips now. I just hook up the phone to the hotel's TV and browse the web.
So the reason I prefer Android is that you can do anything you can on an iPhone and a lot more. IOS is discovering an alien civilization deep within space while Android is finding an empty planet and colonizing it.

Android Rocks
Hands down Android ....
Apple is just UI & the Brand they have managed to create over the years.
Android is the best that that could happen to Mobile devices...
From my "experience" (@Israel) most people with iphones are those who use their PCs just for facebook, they just dont want anything "complicated".
Android is more of a thinking man's platform (imo!)
Once a friend of mine bragged that the iphone is simple & small while android (galaxy nexus) is too complicated, messy and huge.
It made me chuckle cuz most people (including him) have huge cases on their iPhone's making it bigger and uglier than my HTC desire, which survived, and continues to kickass w/o a case for almost two years now.

A friend of mine recently just upgraded from the iPhone 3Gs to the iPhone 4s. When I found out, I was all, "uhh, I've shown you what Android can do." To which my friend responded, "Yeah, but all I really do on my phone is check Facebook & Twitter."
Just saying, if that's all I did on my smartphone, I wouldn't spend the extra money a month for a data plan. I would just have a regular flip phone.

iAgree. But I think iPhone(along with all Apple products) makes some kind of ego for the owner. Other people think they are rich and elegant etc.
But as we all know, it's not cool to own an iPhone

Actually, iPhones don't cost more than any other Android super phones. People just think iPhones are expensive because they don't offer a lot of bang for your buck.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (SGH-i777) using XDA Premium.
Apple is a novelty item now a days. Just to show off that they have it.
In the early days, it was the thing to have because it had all the apps and all the things people would want but now that Android is growing and developing more, it's almost the same for normal users. Of course the android needs to be on even grounds with the apple phone to be considered. ie iPhone 4 to Sg2, Razr, nexus.
For Normal users, if they don't customize the rom, and use it is as is. I think Apple would be the most useful for them.
For "Advanced" users (I use advanced lightly), the Android can do a lot more than Apple in terms of customization and useage.
Personally I'd go with Android. I thought about getting an iPhone but in the end I chose the galaxy S.

Given the kind of feedback that's coming out I suggest we keep this thread under the radar, lest Apple decide to sue us for breaking one of their patents.
Considering the patents they have, I wouldn't be surprised they patented "the ability to have an opinion on a smartphone and its real value" by now! They typically use that patent to spread wrong ideas against Android phones (forceclosing issues, copying, etc) and in favour of their product (the "innovative" FaceTime for instance, new notification system, etc) to their sheep..er.. I mean, customers.
My Opinion
My own feeling is that the iphone is great for those who want an item that comes out of a box in a usable form that they can conform to.
The android is best for someone that wants to customize their phone to their likes, and for the tasks they will perform.
My wife would probably do great with an I-phone, She has an android, but she has never changed anything about it since the second day she had it.
I am always trying roms, kernals, and apps to make my phone perfect for me.
my gf recently got her first android.
after a day she asked me if she could change that stupid lockscreen from samsung to something.. more useful.
i showed her widgetlocker
now her lockscreen looks cooler than mine... xD
thats something what would've been impossible with an iphone..

The biggest thing that annoys me with apples OS is the lack of a dedicated back button and the functionality that goes along with it. Its very annoying to open a link in an email and then have to manually go back to the email app. Very disorienting. Every other mobile os has some way of accomplishing this.

Can u accept apple products again after using WP7?

Been using windows phone for 1.5 years now... and i must say im really used to the UI and i believe using windows 8 would be a breeze for me as well
That being said, mum recently got the new ipad... and ive been trying to teach her how to use it...
AND to my surprise... i am actually feeling pretty good about WP for its convenience, slick UI, humanly made functions compared to apple
There is no way i can really take up an apple product now. It was just pure frustration when using it. Everything on WP was just so much easier faster and more useful!!

it is easy to use and all the people i know who have used it feel the same, but its important to remember that iOS android and WP all have their own pros and cons
each person to their own hey!
ive always said that out of the box without modification, WP is a much easier and complete package than the others, in my opinion of course!

Yep. Have a Titan for 9 months now, and no, even my iPod touch has become an alarm clock or simply a device that pulls my other emails inbox and junk. Turns out its not so much of a fun device like they advertised. Although I've been wanting to mod it to make it more "wearable" like putting it in a PipBoy 3000 case, but that would be ridiculous in public.

I felt the exact opposite when using my samsung focus for a year and a half. Not pure frustration but relief when i picked up an 4s. The app selection and speed of the browser and camera are worth it alone. Screen color reproduction outshines the super amoled as well. I have found that most new smartphone users pick up the UI navigation on an iphone much quicker than wp7. Unfair advantage though since most people have come across iOS at some point and to some degree beforehand. Both better than android though
Im kinda looking forward to the next iphone though I have 2 windows phones (omnia7, surround) an iphone 3gs, 3 ipads (2 ipad 1, 1 new ipad) im up for all tech devices heheh, just cant find an interest in android at the moment though
I quite like iOS as a whole, but the UI really turns me down, especially coming from WP. Android instead is going in the right direction with JB: the UI is now more polished and minimal WP7 style, reaching a good level of consistency. It's still not perfect but it keeps getting better. iOS instead really needs a complete makeover, there's way too much stuff jiggling around and "wannabe cute" thingies. Especially coming from WP7 it all looks like cluttered childish garbage. It gets stuff done nicely but it's far from being appealing to my eye, and that's a shame because the hardware really is top notch. Just my 2 cents.

I have used old windows mobile, palmOS, iPhone4S and I have an android tablet with ICS. I use the arrive from Sprint, and compared with WM phones, it is superior, but to iPhone4s, which I didn't use too much at all, I don't think WP has too much advantage if there's any. I like the interface, but there are just too many little problems that's never get fixed. First and for most, the iPhone4s can send SMS with unicode without any problem, just like normal, you don't need to do anything, but my WP, others only see some junk boxes. Then, the MMS doesn't work after time, need to reset/power cycle the phone. You can't send video at all, no matter what. I can list these on and on, and after all these time, these little bugs never get fixed. The WP7 is stuck at a trial version forever. Just like the WM Microsoft did, they seems to be too slow, can't catch up with all the requests. That's probably a reason why WP isn't popular. In the whole time, Apple releases three new phones with major OS update, I think, and Google got even more releases, I think. To my understanding, even though WP has some very important bells and whistles, if they can't catch up with the demands from average joes and jeans like us to fix the problems, they will lose the game. I do understand my phone is old and the hardware limits it has, but still, those basic bugs should be fixed before they go on to a whole new OS which will abandon us in whole.
I've had a Dell Venue Pro for about 1.5 years now and my wife finally wanted a smartphone so I got her an iPhone 6 months ago.
I've used iOS maybe once or twice before and not for very long so when I finally got a chance to play with iOS for for a longer period of time, I ended up hating the experience completely! I found myself trying to swipe left and right in apps and thinking "why won't the pages swipe over??" before realizing I wasn't using WP. I got so used to the swiping actions in WP7 that anything else just doesn't feel right. I've just gotten so used to flicking up or down and tapping a live tile or just swiping to the app list and flicking up or down, then tapping on the app I want and then within the app swiping left and right through the different pages and up and down. Everything just feels so smooth and fluid. The letters flowing into the next page inviting me to swipe left or right! WP is a damn sexy OS!
Although I think iPhones are great devices for beginners, I think this is the main reason I could never use iOS now. iOS is all about tapping. Tap an app icon, tap the page you want from the bottom, tap to go back at the top of the app, tap this, tap that... everything is tap, tap, tap, and occasionally scroll on pages that are all static. It's cluttered. There's no fluidity. It doesn't evoke emotion. And I agree with the "jiggling" and the "wannabe cutsie" stuff... what's up with that???
The way I see it, iPhones really are for kids and people that just want an iPhone, Android is for nerds that love to tinker (until they get sick of it and end up buying an iPhone or WP), and WP is for people that want devices that just function properly with a little style and pizazz. WP is the modern OS.
Just my opinion
You just need some time to get use to the iOS, instead of there's anything bad. I have problems with the hard buttons on my WP, the volume buttons, the return/search/home buttons, which I can never get used to, almost always jumped by accidentally touched those buttons.
i could never use ios ever since the ipod touch came out since that its always been the same, but my favorite mobile os's from most favorite to least is windows phone, windows mobile first smartphone i used was a treo 700wx, then webos they were going places with that, ios, bb, and android though i have only used froyo and gingerbread worst experiance ever not even wm 6.1 was that bad

Android has changed a lot lately, it's much more polished, smooth and efficient. I still find it a bit unintuitive and overly complicated as a PHONE OS, but JB made it a very solid platform. I've been using it extensively on my tablet in the latest weeks and I'm pretty satisfied. I still like the simplicity and the fresh design of WP better, but it's a whole different world compared to how it used to be in the past, maybe you should grab a Nexus device or something and give it another chance

WP7 was winning the game right up until ms dropped it. I look at the wp metro now and just wish they'd let users skin the thing. They should have introduced a folder system, language support is thin. It's depressing because wp was the best os, now jellybean is out and has ironed out all the niggles with droid. A new ios is only a month away and ms are trying to tout win8, which already looks set to be the biggest failure in the history of Microsoft.
It is nearly game, set and match to apple. What a depressing time for tech
A few things wp7 can boast are, best search (camera, tags, sound and text all in one interface), fastest web browsing of all devices, absolutely AMAZING cloud integration with skydive, easy groupings of friends/contacts.... Actually the list of things wp7 is still better for is huge. Why did ms drop it?
I just hope Nokia can get a droid device out there fast.

I would say Win 7 is much nicer than ios , however , if Microsoft changes up the system every 2 years like they just did with win 8 (basically making our win 7 devices a KIN) , i WONT BE BACK! Those people who bought the 2nd gen wp7 fones are screwed now in there contract , right after pushing the wp7 on them and millions sold , Microsoft annouces win 8 and they are not backwords compatible , so you have to have the newest fones in order to use win8 , yes they give a small gui for nokia with no functionality of 8 , your screwed too!
Nope I was a fan from the beginning ,I have focus 1.3 and have changed out custom roms , its been dev unlocked from the beginning, interop unlocked as well ,but I dont see a future in it , I do like the interface , but I think I will get an Android next , and just get a custom rom that looks like win 8 !! or anything else I want ! My Tablet rocks with Jelly Bean !
I actually use iOS far more then my WP7 device. My 4S however just can accomplish so much more then my Optimus 7. Better everything really. The WP7 OS however is still my favorite. I just hope they create some amazing phones down the line. Really really stunning phones.
After having used a long time my well loved o²xda-htc wallaby(which died in 2010 by batterydead, and the long and very sad search of a well priced htc hd2,where i was victim of the ebay classifieds services i bought ,and yes thats sad in some cases, that i must say ,that i don´t know if it was luck that i spend 200€ for my Omnia7 in a telekomshop, but what i can say defenitely after all: Iphone and every other Apple-Product where never an option for me!!! And this is based on some reasons for me: 1. there is the fact, that the appelproducts and especially the phones are so extremely overpriced in comparision of hardware/price 2. that i hate that everyone who owns an appeldevice is so "proud" on this and that this person act like as it is the biggest show-off,the applehype has disgusted me totaly 3. is that iphones are not very longlife-produced and often their screen brakes by first "touchdown" 4. that i whish that the appleconcern is breaken down in some years 5.that it is my opinion, that when appledevices were good everyone bought windevices, and now that windwos has cought up in (hardware) but mostly software specifications, their reputation has lost the multimediadevices and phonemarket.
What i must say also is,when i´ll buy me a new device i´ll buy me an androiddevice, nothing lesser then one of the topdevices(S3 or something like this). This is based on the fact, that microsoft has disappointed me that much as i could be dissapointed by them ,and also because i think that wp8 will be at the end locked down, as much as wp7 was, something i´ll never have to own again as a smartphoneos
