Hey guys. Im on t-mobile right now and i was wondering if i should stay with em and get the Galaxy S II, or switch to verizon and get the iPhone 5 when it comes out later this month. I dont really care about services and all that. All i care about is the phone itself and which one is better and has more features and all that good stuff.
Thanks in advanced!
Remember! Im only 13. Gimme a break!
Well if you like playing games...get the iPhone.
For two reasons:
1) The App Store in general has higher quality games (and a much larger selection). (Real Racing 2, Infinity Blade, Rage HD, etc.)
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285162 The A5 has much better graphics performance than the Exynos.
On the other hand if you love modding and tweaking your phone, Android FTW! Jailbreaking is rather limited in comparison.

I can confirm that about Real Racing 2. I have it on my iPhone 4 and it's, to me, a smartphone version of Gran Turismo from the Playstation for gameplay and physics. Just a superb smartphone racing game. And the games on iPhone do tend to be superior.
Of course there is going to be a bias in this forum. However, all bias aside, what till the iPhones press release to see what it has to offer. Then decide if a functional phone (with all its downfalls in what I choose for a phone os, it is a very functional phone out of the box. Can't deny that) is for you, or if you like the freedom of android (where my bias lies ) choose that. Although android has flaws like ios, wp7 or any other, SGS2 did a great job of tackling some based on reviews I have read. Based on this and test driving them both, make your decision. Either way have fun with your shiny new toy. Also you could wait for the next nexus, which has me torn between that and the SGS2.

In all honesty this is like a PC versus Mac comparison. The Galaxy S II is going to be a remarkable phone specs wise, and going by the benchies I've seen the software is great to boot, but Apple is good at appealing to what some people want. An easy UI, while locked down, providing a great experience, but nonetheless I'm far from being an apple fan, with their locked down environment, you wonder why it's called jailbreaking when you root your phone? The fact of the matter is (to me), people are going to flock to the Iphone 5 because of the marketing hype, those in the know will grab the Galaxy SII because they know what's up.
im gonna have to agree to disagree. the galaxy s2 does have some great games as well made by non other Gameloft. asphalt 6 is great looking on the s2, you got games from EA like Need for Speed and many more...For the person who said you can tweak the galaxy s2 more than the iphone you are completely and utterly wrong. for me when i had my iphone 4 i tweaked it up so much it looked like a car out of pimp my ride once i finished with it..in cydia there are so many hundreds of tweaks and stuff that you can do is unbelieavable....also there is an application called dreamboard were you can change so many themes..go on youtube to check it out...
all in all though its down to you little buddy what you want to choose.. i have the galaxy s2 and im very happy...does what i need and my next phone will probably be the s3 if it comes out or shall i say when it comes out....but if you want quality games or shall i say more games then the iphone is the one for you...but true wait tilll they announce it and see what its like

The problem with the whole "Games" thing is that Apple was first to the punch, and they release a static platform, while me personally I dislike anything apple, the fact is that most companies that produce games go for what works, and sadly iOS is the first in line they develop for, stats wise though if they released games for the Android platform things would be much different, but I guess most people have an Apple on the brain so a lot of the good stuff we see for the iOS won't hit Android.

true true...but if you look we do have some amazing games for the android though...just because iOS gets first dips doesnt mean we dont have any good ones..and if you read you will see in the next few months dev will be working hard on bringing some exclusives games to android first but anyway if someone wants to buy a phone purely for games they might as well buy a console...
no offence but, I am kind of disappointed by this thread because it seems to me people here have gaming as their number 1 priority.
Dude he's 13. When I was 13 I played games all day on my iPod touch.
I am with Android all the way unless the Iphone comes out with dual GSM CDMA support built in then i am Iphone due to the fact that i like to travel with my phone and give my old phones to relatives over seas.
iPhone is better for you if you like games, simplicity and if you are happy with stock features . Android in general is better for modding and upgrading etc. Jailbreak is limited.
just go for iphone
won't regret

The only thing you can't do with jailbroken iPhone is change kernels, and cpu speed so saying it's limited is really wrong. Jail broken iPhone has lots of possibilities since the apps they have are way more polished than android apps. Idk why would you change cpu speed and kernels anyway they run flawlessly.

I finally had a chance to play with the SGS2 this morning. Although a very nice phone, I saw nothing better than the Infuse 4G. Everything the SGS2 has the Infuse has or will have except the dual core CPU and NFC. The Infuse display is not only the same as the SGS2, but is also larger. The styles are almost the same, except the Infuse uses an unbroken black-chrome bezel from front to back. The SGS2 uses a partial black-chrome surround around the front.
As for Gingerbread, the Infuse will eventually have that.
My suggestion would be to wait for the iPhone 5 and see how it fares.
iphone it is!!

Well for sgs 2 I do change my cpu speed. However not for overclocking, but for underclocking. The thing is that on 800mhz, it still runs like it is on 1.2ghz and can handle anything currently available, so why not just save my phone the waste of using my up battery on something unneeded.
Or...wait for the Nexus Prime. Not only will it decimate iPhone 5 AND the SII specwise, it'll be loaded with ICS. iPhone is seeing the end of it's days and Apple knows it. Thats why all the "groundbreaking" and "game changing" features they're introducing with iOS 5, are features that already are, and have been available on Android since 1.0. They're blatantly copying Android to keep the iPhone relevant. And even if you do go with the SII, it will probably be seeing an ICS update not long after the Prime is released, so you're SII will have just become better(again) than the just released iPhone. Simple decision I think...
At the end of the day, Samsung will always be miles ahead of Apple when it comes to hardware, with things like screen quality and processing power; and this is because Samsung is competing against other manufacturers such as HTC and Motorola, because android users can choose more than one handset (thank God.)
However Apple doesn't really need to compete, its got a following of...I'm not sure tbh, but its enough to make them the richest company in America.
I'm far from a fan of Apple, but I doubt they're too bothered when it comes to who releases the better handset; considering the fanboy following they have.
Well spec wise, i think the Iphone 5 will come out on top with it's sgx 543mp2 GPU. if it performs practically more than 100% better than the Mali on the sgs2 when running a 720p gaming benchmark test, well that's just a huge facepalm right there.
And as said if you want gaming, the iPhone 5 is your bet for now. The iOs platform holds the gaming spotlight right now and will prolly till say the next yr or 8 months till it will share the spotlight with android.

WTF dude? Why post this on the Captivate forum? This debate is tired already. I use a Captivate not an I Phone.
iPhone 4. It's got the 3g and the wifis
Posting it on the captivate forum is not gonna be biased at all.....
there was already a thread from a guy that was doing a debate for school asking for good arguments, and another comparison thread. search it.
android is a better thought out os but it has its problems. the captivate has a better gpu. they both have great screens, i like the amoled, but the iphone is is brighter which is good in the sunlight, iphone is better resolution which is good if you hold the phone close to your face but it may be overkill, i feel like the captivate could have better pixel density. neither is bad but if you want sugestions it depends on priorities.
how important is insurance?
will you want to video chat?
do you have friends with front facing cameras on there phones especially other iphone 4's or use webcams often?
do you take pics at night? captivate night mode is sometimes better in surprisingly dim light or for objects that are lighted at night but with no flash the camera is sometimes useless for portraits in a dark club setting or total darkness. led flash is only useful for portraits but if that's important to you then you might want an iphone.
how are you with a touchscreen? can you type on an iphone? swype is a good alternative to a keyboard.
do you use widgets? there are none on the iphone.
do you want to theme your phone?
do you like broken glass that cuts your fingers? slip on covers trap dirt that scratches the glass. scratches are stress risers and the glass breaks!
i can go on, but i think you already know what you like and can find out the information.
Well currently I have xperia x10 android phone and love it how customisable it is. Even you jailbreak Iphone you can't customize barely anything. Then apple release new firmwire and devs make more jailbreak. The only thing I want Iphone 4 is for apps and games and fps games. The reason I did vs Captivate. If Captivate can handle games like Iphone 4?

Better question: Why are you posting in the Captivate forum about this when you use an X10?
And if the games were made for Android, then they would play just as well, if not better then the iPhone4.

better!
galaxy s can handle games better than any other. g2 and mytouch 4g are the fastest phones but galaxy s has a better gpu.
get a captivate, root it, get samsung apps, temperarily change the build.prop to the gt i9000 build.prop and download asphalt 5. change build.prop back to stock. play asphalt 5. this is a version of asphalt 5 built for a galaxy s, the version number is lower than the one on the gameloft website because gameloft took out some of the open gl features so that the evo and driod x could run it better!
you will see better lighting effects and better framerates with this version on a galaxy s than the one on there website.
better andriod games will come soon and show off the galaxy s capabilities. there is a small number of high quality 3d fps games on the market because one device that doesnt sell as well as others isnt enough push for development. now that the g2 and mytouch 4g are close in the gpu area and many new phones will come soon there is likely to be some amazing new games coming out. especially from gameloft.
I think the Captivate's interface is better, even though Apple has a reputation for having better usability.
With iOS, Apple is surely lagging. Android OS is much better. The bugs people talk about just aren't there for me - they have been resolved. I also use beta ROMS, etc.
On to hardware. Honestly the touchscreen misses my intended target 1/100 times, with the iPhone 3GS it always registered what I wanted to click. I know 1/100 sounds small, but it bothers me.
Last part is third party software / hardware. iPhone has more docks, etc. Captivate has next to none. For the best apps - if it is on the iPhone, then it is on the Android. However, they are lagged. For instance, the iPhone Navigon app is farther advanced than the android Navigon app.
There ya have it.

From a phone on an app
What made the decision for me was the freedom the phone gave me. You could either have a phone where steve jobs dictates how ur phone is going to be, like it our not, or go with a phone that supports customization. I know a few people with galaxy s phones, and the beauty about them is, if you pick em up they look very different. With different launchers and widgets, you truly have more customization. And the beauty of widgets is your can get information without ever opening app. And there's swype.

Hacked Captivate >> Jailbroken iPhone 4 >>>>>>>>>>>>> iPhone 4 >>>> Stock Captivate
I have 2 or each on my AT&T plan.
Both are good choices, and wouldn't diss either one. Each go about what they do differently, and neither are perfect for everybody or everything.
My wife and I use the Captivates..both my sons use the 32 gig I 4 phones. We all like what they do and how they do it..so it really is a personal choice on what you get. Can you get bad ones of each..certainly..I've already had to have both of the I-phones go back already due to bad sim cards..so..nothing is perfect. Both of my Captivates are from the September build, and both have worked great.
All 4 of us are happy with them..I am happy with the Captivates, and am glad I can change it around easier than the I-phones..my sons are happy since they have used i-pods and i-tunes since they first came out. Both phones sound great..both look great..both give excellent call quality.
To me the biggest differences is the price of the phones. For next to nothing you can get a Captivate on a 2 year contract..not so with the I-phone.Another big difference is how much storage you can have with the Captivate. You can swap out the sd card and have tons of storage..you can't do that with the I-phone.
Look at all of the differences..and all of the applications and games you want to use.Go with the one you feel will suit your needs..and don't base it on other peoples needs.Lastly...If you want to be able to change things around and truely customize it easily..the I-phone may not be your best choice. If you just want a phone and keep it the way it is..then the I-phone may be the best choice. Then again..if none of this is applicable to you..you may just prefer how one looks and feels over the other and base it on that when you go to get it .Like I said..it is a personal choice than anything else since neither is 100% perfect.
Mac
^^^Like him, I have a Captivate and my son & daughter have Iphone 4's. After visiting my daughter and playing with her Iphone 4 I noticed 2 things that gripe me: 1) The Iphone 4 can orient google maps in a "heads up" mode..and 2) The iphone 4 can pinch to zoom in the gmail app. Being an android (made by google right?), I'm amazed that our Captivate can't do that..especially #2. My 50+ eyes really have a hard time with the tiny font in the gmail app...and there's no way to increase it -in 2.1 at least
Which OS is good, reliable and stable, android or iphone?
Honestly, they are both good, reliable and stable operating systems and each has their own strengths and weakness. Its really a question of personal preference. I prefer android and the open source nature of the system, and am not a fan of the highly proprietary apple brand. Both OS are good, but you have sooooo many more options when it comes to android over iOS, from the phones to apps and more.

Compelling question, sir. Let us consult the Magic 8 Ball, for reasoning necessary to arrive at the answer is far too complex for minds of a non-magical nature.

I have an HD2 running CyanogenMOD 7, an HTC Inspire 4G unrooted running Android 2.2.1 (FroYo) and an iPhone 4. I also have a Samsung Focus running Windows Phone 7.
Out of all of those the Androids (HD2 and Inspire) are the most fun to use. They work flawlessly and have more convenience features than my iPhone 4 or Focus. Nevertheless, my iPhone 4 is my main phone and is the primary phone I take with me all the time. The reason being is because it is the most reliable system ever created. The Androids, for me, work flawlessly, but are prone to issues from what I've observed from other people. And my Inspire, in the beginning, almost got me lost because of a screwy compass and non-functioning Google maps app (maybe due to GPS or lack of data signal). Since a subsequent update the Inspire has been flawless.
But I trust my iPhone 4. It may not have the convenience of a free voice guided nav like on the Androids, but I can manage fine with the maps system it does have. Nonetheless, I love Android and feel it is superb and would not be without it.
Decipher through that and see if I declared one over the other.
Both have their strengths although i think at the moment android has more strengths as Apple is playing catchup with the iphone5 and iOS 5. I like androids open source nature and its general layout is just 'cooler.' Most android users go on and on about fanboys but the truth is almost all iphone users are not fanboys, infact i didnt even know ABOUT android until mid 2010! That's how bad their marketing (and how good Apple's) was. Most have been duped by Apple's excellent marketing which they've done fantastically over here in Australia and don't realise there are other options.
Both. The choice between the two is simply personal preference.

better overall experience def. android
apps/games are 1-2 yrs ahead in terms of innovation and smoothiness: iphone
Depends on what you like to do with your phone...if you like to explore your phone 360° in complete liberty i'll remand you to an android device...if you like apple style get an iphone
I prefer android devices.
My friends have had nothing but problems with their iPhones.
Buddy had 2 iPhone4's die out on him in a month (speaker, microphone and one just wouldn't hold a charge) and he's since upgraded to an Arc (android).
I believe it's personal preference, but if your buying a new phone then the iPhone just can't compete... Think about it, the iPhone4 is old technology. There are new insanely powerful and innovative Android devices released every other week...
Let me put it this way. Galaxy S vs Iphone4 is/was a toss up. Side by side reviewers often gave them ties or a slight edge one way or the other. The Galaxy S is over a year old and the new Android devices are lightyears ahead of it. If you read a review that DOESN'T say a phone like the Arc destroys, yes, destroys, the iPhone4 in every category then the reviewer is likely a fanboy/on the Apple payroll.
I'm sorry, but it's an old phone. Besides, the o/s are completely different styles. It's a lot like the original windows vs mac vs linux debate. Mac=iPhone, Android=Linux (literally)... Both excel at different tasks and each has a loyal fanbase... It's all preference without question in terms of OS. In terms of hardware I don't think there's a comparison with any new phone.
Neither, my friend. webOS is the better os.
Android......Anyday
I feel the iPhone is outdated with regard to hardware. I mean, the old galaxy s which came out before the iPhone4 is better than the iPhone 4, let alone all these new phones. People say gaming on apple devices is better. Never Understood how. I mean, it's the same games and the same developers and android gets all the more important and good games
I personally prefer Android, because I like the open source nature of the system. I love that there are so many Android device options out there now. However, I do have to admit that iPhone has that extra something that somehow android devices just haven't mastered yet. A touch response is like a .000000098 seconds faster in iPhone vs. Android phones, but I can tell there's that little bit of .000000098 seconds lag....lol. But bottom line--Android for me
As a lead support tech for a large company, I have to answer this question every time I respond to a smartphone issue, because the user always ask, should I have something else or will X product give me less trouble?
Really, it all comes down to personal preference. Some people only use a phone for a very limited set of tasks(email, phone, games), and in those cases it comes down to which hardware/cellular provider the user wants.
I like to use mine for any and everything as it helps me every minute of every day either at work or with personal stuff, and since I am a techie and like to tweak my device to my liking I prefer a rooted Android device.
Rooted HTC Thunderbolt
both os are good.but i prefer Android...iphone is nothing for me
In all seriousness, iPhone. A jailbroken iPhone 4 is really an incredible piece of hardware, and especially with iOS 5 the software is second to none. Compared to any Android phone, it has a more complete feature set and fewer bugs and problems. It's a more mature, more slick overall system.
That said, I use Android. I think Android is really, really awesome and there's some fantastic hardware out for it. And it's overall much cheaper to be an Android user on Sprint than an iOS user on AT&T and Verizon.
I like the Android the best, definitely
But then again i havent really used an iPhone, only my moms, lol.
hello,
first of all, i love follwing the tech and seeing present devices getting better with better softwares.. i own a xoom for 2 months and i really love it.. but -like most of the people here, probably- i believe the software is not fully optimized for the hardware.. in my computers i always used nvidia products, because i believe it did its job very good even when the ati competitors were better on the paper.. so here i am with a tegra 2 SoC and i cant find any game as smooth as ipad games..
now -in addition to my xoom- i was planning to buy a samsung galaxy tab 10.1 (one is for my girlfriend, one is for me but mostly to be used together) but when i was making some research, last night i found nvidia ULP and ipad 2 comparisons and could not believe the results.. ipad 2 was 2-6 times faster/better than the motorola xoom.. imeedieatly i downloaded the same tests and i ran them too and ended up with same results unfortunately.. and then i downloaded lots of high quality games and every time i ended between 20-25 FPS.. i think it is not satisfying..
i dont believe apple has the alien technology, i think the software makes the difference.. so i asked myself to questions;
"what do i plan to use my tablet for" and
"what is going to happen when iOS5 and ICS comes"???
my expectations from ISC is to bring more optimisation to our devices, i cant say no to new cool feautures but first i want my existing ones to be perfect...
to be honest, i can not answer both questions... i can only answer what i want from a tablet.. and again to be honest i guess i am hungry for performance, even though i do not need it. so in every tests tegra 2 cpu beats a5, and the web pages (the first thing i want my tablet to do professionally) are super faster loading then the ipad2 ... besides i love customizable home screen definition, i love being easy to carry my media from the computer or to the computer with one cable without any software.. and i love being able to connect my hard drive so that i can give up from my laptop once i buy a bluetooth keyboard..
but my second question; what is going to happen when iOS5 and ICS here? will iOS5 catch up with android by beating it in CPU and usefullness tests too or will ICS cacth up with the smoothnes and games performance and the promises they gave?
in my country asus transformer, acer iconia a500, ipad 2 16gb, motorola xoom are same prices and samsung galaxy tab is about 40 dollars more expencive in second hands or abroad products.. so i dont care about the price here.. what i am asking is which one is going to better according to your opinion between all these devices? and which one is going to give me more development and more increase in perfection?
i am so confused and every opinion is wellcomed.. i am planning to use it mostly for web browsing as a laptop replecement, gaming, photo and video making/editing/storing and -if possible- using engineering programs like the icircuit in ipad or the autocad in galaxy s (i have it on my galaxy s but i could not run it in tablet)..
so please share) thanks..
okay...
as you are FULLY aware... we are talking apples and oranges here
1. iOS is for people who want something out of the box.. not worried about setting much up and have a billion games... for now atleast (something my grandma would like to be honest)
2. Android OS is far superior with whats under the hood and the customizations and endless tweeking...
my simple answer is... do you want something the same as every other...er... individual (*snickers* - as the ad's would have you believe).. or something that is truly your OWN device
i bet 9 out of 10 people in the xoom forum has something that is entirely unique to the next... i love this aspect... i like having something a little different.. i like to tweek untill i break it or have the best device out there.. 3/4 of the time if there is an app for the iOS there is a better app for android.. for example.. there is only crap remote mouse apps for iOS and yet i have unified remote full for android a masterpiece and i can control nearly every aspect of my computer via a remote with my android devices (yes there is splashtop HD for iOS and android but this is not always a viable solution and trust me i have both)... this is just one example as i cbf putting down the many apps i have that are better (foto tile slideshow - the live wallpaper is another AWESOME app that comes to mind)
last and not least... lets remember software for both devices are going crazy.. however now the tables have turned with android leading the way and iOS playing catch up and ice cream is going to be one hell of an update to which im pretty sure xoom will be compatible =]
i know i may have not 100% been to topic but had to express something (you did say all views were welcome lol)
I agree with the above poster...and will add that no matter what we wish, we will never have the very best, fastest, most bleeding-edge device because once we buy, there will always be something newer, faster, better, etc. IOS gives you what it wants you to have. Android lets you have (or create) what you want.
If you are rooted, with Tiamat Hammerhead Rom and the Tachi oc gpu kernel, and a launcher like ADW Ex, could the Xoom be any smoother?
It does make a difference how hands-on you want to be.
thanks for it.. you have made very good points..
i guess i am trying to look at it as computers.. when i had my desktop it was not a big deal when one of the parts was getting old/slower becuase i was able to change only that one without spending big money... but once that world (both hardware and games) got larger it got harder to follow and find the best one.. so i felt like i was lost between nvidia and ati products.. then i switched to laptops when i became more mobile in daily life and when laptops offered more graphic power.. and i always thought GPU first and the ram 2nd, and the HDD 3rd.. CPU was ok to wait.. because CPU tech is already a lot higher than todays daily process needings..
so with the same feeling i have the same reflex to go for the better GPU one.. i feel like the weaker GPU one is going to get old faster/earlier.. this scares me..
and there is also the untidyness in the android world.. there are hundreds of phones with different specs and only a few of them has the full control of every feauture android can give you.. so when you buy a cheap android phone you are not only lacking some hardware, but also being some short on the software too.. they solved this mostly by making the tegra 2 the center of the tablets and i believe ICS will bring even more tidyness to the world just like apple world.. but i still have my suspicious with ICS, because i have read an opinion here in xda, he says ; ICS is a big development for 2.3 devices not for the 3.x devices.. but i want to believe better drivers will come and help us benefit from our hardware better.. nvidia has done that before when the game crysis was out, they increased the overall performance by %10 for every 8xxx card with a new firmware..
besides i made some research and some experiments; apperiantly this ULP is first defining the need of the FPS and then setting it as a limit to keep the power comsumption low.. so even though it can go faster or produce more FPS it stays in the limit of 28 especially in the desktop while ipad can go with 60 FPS.. i guess this is excatly what makes me jealous.. because i feel like my tablet does not have power to do that...
so basicly, i do not like apple anymore after they sue everyone they see as a thread... but i also believe the complains i made (the belief of the GPU being much more worse than the ipad 2 GPU) scares me.. i put my faith on the new software before, to nokia.. and every time they have given a new software to their "smartphones" they ruined it even more.. so far, in android, everything is just going good.. every new version came with better optimizations and i want to believe it is going to be like this in the future..
i guess my opinions and fears are mostly emotional and coming from my unfortunate experiences.. but i get attached to every device of mine and i want them to be good enough and last long enough .. so i do not want to feel like i am buying something to be old so quick under the shadow of new coming kal-el and already existing apple ipad 2..
Buy a xoom and root it! You have the use of SD card, flash drives, and USB hdd's. My wife looked at the options and realized she takes photos and needs access to her camera and to her hdd she uses to store those photos. Not one other tablet can do what the xoom can do! Sure it has some flaws, but at the same time it has less of those flaws than any tablet I have tested so far. My Logitech wireless mouse works, and every other device I have at my house. One cable to do it all, not several diff things like the tab 10.1. You want a custom PC, then here it is!

Maybe you should just be prepared to buy and sell whatever you no longer want so you can buy something new.Unfortunately none of us, except e.mote can tell the future.
I guess your points are valid considering alot if the economic uncertainty.. However one must argue that the ipad in all its glory is not a technological advancement.. Think about it.. U can do some neat things yet you cant replace a desktop with it.. Yet the Android comes so close it can almost blur the line entirely.. You can also try and get a windows 7 tab for cheaper as i was looking at these but i weighed up the usefulness and the tech side in me and now people watch me screw around with the xoom on the train and how individualistic it is and then my phone is a new avenue for full customization.. Sure they are not for all and its funny to watch the smartest people i know fumble with such a device and stick to apple babble like its the be all and get slugged a premium its great to see the sheep follow =]

Yesterday i found an ipad2 from a friend and put the xoom and the ipad on the table together and decided to make both devices very tired with my expectations.. I wanted to see which one was going to give up first (or which one i was foing to give up first ) i jailbreaked the ipad and have already rooted my xoom.. First did web experience, turned flash off and let them race .. Xoom was showing off in the beginning.. But once the tabs were more than 6 it started to slow down, on the other hand ipads slowing down was like this; wheb i cliked on a tab my waiting time extended lineerly with the quantity of tabs.. Then i looked at the photos and videos but apperiantlly itunes is tuning photos to a lower size when sending them to ipad.. So i did not like this.. Because i like to carry my stuff.. What if i wanted to carry the original sized photos to another device? Ipad failed here.. But then i nova2 in xoom, and it felt so bad.. Like 15-25 fps.. Dungeon defenders is not so different either.. But i kept testing and ipad kept failing.. Espesially in file management and easy file transferring and independence lets xoom to be the leader.. But then i learned google bought moto.. And ICS is planning for new quad core tegra3 platform or some other quad core platform with so much more powerfull gpu s.. I felt like ourtablets have been sold us ust to be temprorary leaders of the leaders.. I mean i paid this money to this tablet to have the dominant of the market when ICS is out.. But apperiantly ICS will come with new dominants.. So i will feel like i paid not only for a temprory OS but also a temprorary hardware.. I know , no hardware ia immortal but i am afraid i wont be able to have benefit of android world once the quad cores are out.. I know this hecause when i had galqxy s i was able to do anything in android world but now i have galaxy ace qnd i hardly cqn listen to rqdio akd write this at the same time.. It is lqgging as hell.. So this fear of being outdated in the very early future is taking over me.. I now understand why all the idevice owners are so cool about anything because they dont have to think about being outdated anytime.. But i have to think about overxloxking my device to play a game my galaxy s or iphone 3gs is already capqble of playing out of the box..
I love android world and i really want it to be better and i have read it was going to be 1.8 times faster and better when the ICS is out.. I want to bwlieve this but i qlso do not want my device outdated before at least, one year..

essentially... when do u want a device... NOW or NEVER?.. there is always going to be a newer better device in the future... why did you buy your phone when u did when there are better phones out now or the future... same with your computer... same crap... if you wait for the next one you will never have anything and never enjoy the benefits of such a device... personally im happy to have a device for 12 months maybe less and grab the next newest bit... because someone else in my family will benefit form the older software and i continue with the newest gadget
This is my sentiment exactly. You sound like a mouse who is caught running on a treadmill. Get off and relax a bit. Enjoy your Xoom or give it to your lucky girlfriend and get something else. Personally, I've gone thru three Android tablets just since November, and I'll be keeping my Xoom for a while...there's still so much app development that needs to happen to catch up to the tablet form-factor/resolution, and to exploit tegra 2 ---it will be a while until quad cores are fully exploited, I'm sure.

^^ exactly... this is my second tablet in less than a year and just the difference between froyo and honeycomb is astounding... i did my research before buying this tab.. in fact from my first experience i didn't want another tab at all... i despise apple products on general principle (not relevant but yeh) so it took alot of research and convincing about another tab.... i was going to buy a galaxy tab 10.1 yet upon buying it at auction i came across the xoom.. and viewed the true capabilities and noted that the galaxy tab is just a android iOS device and the xoom is a true android device and something that can fulfill my experimental side..
Just buy the iPad 2.
2 great tablets, no one needs to persuade you to use android.

i am only fan of people who develope, share, help and moreover ask to themselves and try to answer what they are doing with their devices and what they are planning to add to this in the future.. i am not fan of companies..
i know myself, i did this mistake before; i saw the 60 FPS shiny world of the iphone and when i was most bored with my lag-crazy nokia i swicthed to it (3gs) and found myself trying to buy a perfect book page by page and i was not able to choose the chapters..
when i had iphone i tried to customize the hardware limitations, unfortunately it was impossible.. then i tried to make things easier (like tried to get rid of itunes) that failed too.. and after 2 months i realised my little shiny and so called super optimized phone was lagging, this was when i learned iOS was able to lag too..
then after another failing nokia symbian update experience i tried android with galaxy s.. and that world my friend, became my addiction..
however; when i was making surfing throuh other forum sites i ran into some opinions and fears. they have become my fears too.. now i am making a summary of them in very short sentences, so i believe i will make myself more clear;
first thing like i said i always believed in every mobile device the GPU gets older first.. so, especially in my laptops i always tried to choose the better GPU over te CPU or the other specs.. and one day i was reading reviews about tegra 2 potential but then i saw ipad 2 was -sometimes- up to 5 times faster than it in graphic tests... that made me scared..
the second thing; i am fully aware of that our hardware is as valuable as its software and nokia failed me about it again and again.. one day, i found an web page which says ICS will make the performance 1.8 times better.. i assume (i want to assume) this is mostly graphic performance because CPU performance is already the best but i thing nvidia drivers needs to be optimized.. so the best thing is to wait for ICS and then decide about how android-tablet worlds growing bigger and success.. but, on the other hand, we are waiting for the tomorrows technology with yesterdays device.. this is my second fear, because i heard the quad core products are being released in this fall.. i am scared of being outdated even before i can enjoy the full performance of my xoom..
i have just shared these two fears and then realised apple owners did not have them.. so i asked here if apple is better at them.. it was not an "should i buy apple or android" topic.. but if people said "tegra 2 and honeycomb are temprory and will be history together soon and the real devices are the quad-core ones" i would go for an ipad 2 (maybe) for 6-9 months and then go back to android..
and not to forget; in my years, i have forgatten lots of device i used with their good or bad sides but i have never forgatten the people i shared knowledge and experience with.. and i am a fan of them..
I do see your point to the temp issues with tegra 2, but at the same time the I pad can't do flash. There is only one thing that has failed to stop the use of my $3500 alienware laptop that is 4yrs old. It burns discs and I am in sure the xoom can use a USB DVD burner. So can the ipad2 support an external USB hdd? Can you use all of Facebook in the browser on the ipad2? Can you push the ipad2 beyond what the box says? NO! That is why I did not even look at apple. My wife does photography and apple could not supply what she demanded it to do, so I bought her a xoom too. So far I have not seen one other tablet come close to it. I took into account something new will come out later, but at the same time it will be an infant in it's release as well. Not much using dual core anyway. Apple is for the kids that can't jump off the cliff into the water. Android is for those wanting to live on the edge and beyond. I can work, play, relax, and tinker with my xoom. Ipad2 can't deliver for me at all. I really think you have to ask yourself what do you want your tablet to do?

thank you.. i have narrowed down the equation to samsung tab 10.1 vs xoom .. i am trying to choose between them now.. i saw samurai 2 vengence and some other games and know i am so sure it is good enough as a toy too..
None of the tegra games seem to work right on honeycomb. I do like scrabble from ea. And cordy is kinda fun. Played one of the sniper games and it wasn't bad at all. Most of the games you have to buy and I just haven't found a good one I like. I wish halo reach could be done. Then I would be set!

I bought my Xoom for a very specific reason. At the time, it was the only device running Honeycomb, and the only (major) tablet with an OS specifically designed for tablets. The iPad is great and all, but, at the end of the day, it's just a really big iPhone. I already have an iPhone, and I don't need two. The apps are better on iOS for stuff like games and cutesy programs, but better on Android for stuff like tweaking programs or developer programs.
Really, the decision comes down to whether you're going to use the device like a "normal" user or a "power" user. If all you're going to do is browse the net and check email (and play games), get the iPad. If you want some power user features (better desktop remote control, better ssh, better customization, nonstandard kernels, rooting that does a lot more, etc), then grab the Xoom.
Generally speaking, Apple's products cater to the non-tech-savvy, which sometimes annoy those of us that are tech savvy. Android, though, caters to the more tech savvy. This is why Android is more complicated to use and it also explains the app selections.
As the commercial goes, "it just works". This is true. Apple's devices just work. They stay in control of your device in an attempt to make your life easier and the device easier to use. Android doesn't do this, but it also has a lot more bugs and such (hence better for tech savvy people).
So, to sum everything up, if you're going to use it for just normal stuff (browsing, email, games) and you're not overly tech savvy, get the iPad. If you're tech savvy and plan to remote control computers or other such advanced features, get the Xoom.

What to say to apple fans trying to manipulate a layman, into buying an apple, in laymen terms? Or what's the ultimate android to apple bash? Or what's the best reason to buy android vs apple? One of the main reasons I wanna know what other people would say, especially to their friends or family. I've never touched a Mac nor will I ever so I can't really say anything but tech specs, so that's my main reason to start this thread. Plus... I also wanna hear if other people are as sick as I am just hearing the freakin word, "Apple".

before i use Apple, i thought it is the best phone, but after i use apple iphone 4, i find it is good but with so many limitions, cannot download the useful apps is not good.till now, i can only download the apps from app store. while android is much better than iphone, my husband's galaxy s2 hd lte is good enough.
Why is there an apple sub forum in xda. Wont it be a head ache for the mods to get the spam out of it?
Ontopic. My brother has an apple and he can't stop bragging about it. Apple this apple that. I don't know what so big of a deal with it. Its also costs damn too much. I do accept its a bit fast and little stuff but that would be cause I have a wildfire.
Also it only varies based on its memory Rom (or whatever they call it) . No different styles no different sizes. But android ranges from big to small powerful to low powered.
Maybe I say this cause I only used android but I'm not gonna use iPhone any time in the future.

Customisation is Android's Strong Point!
I would say try an iPhone and try an Android phone - the iPhone will let you do so much, but then it will give you a brick wall which you can't jump over. The Android phone, on the other hand, will give you a blank canvas which you can turn into a Picasso or a Rembrandt, depending on your tastes.
Android = customisation, at its best.
iPhone = standardisation and closed ecosystem (at its best).
It all boils down to preferences anyway. I'd stick with Android though. I just can't stand the fact that iPhone's UI is a glorified app drawer. BORING.
I purchased an iPhone 4 the first month it came out. I had never owned a smart phone before this. I thought it was fun to play around with but I eventually got really bored of it. After 3 months I really didn't understand the hype behind the phone. I gave it to my dad and went back to my 5 year old Sony Ericsson which was WAAAAY more customizable than the iPhone, even though it was very old. With the iPhone I felt like someone was cutting my steak for me and cleaning my mouth, but with the Sony Ericsson I could choose whatever type of Steak I wanted and make it myself, constantly trying new seasonings. I know that was a terrible metaphor, but whatever.
In January of last year I picked up an HTC Inspire 4G. The first month my grades dropped because of how much fun I was having. I rooted it, installed a custom ROM, playing GBA/SNES/N64 games, and did everything I could do on my PC on my phone. I even edited microsoft word documents before sending them to my teachers straight from my phone. It was a whole new world. I could literally do anything with my phone.
Over the summer I bought a Galaxy S2 i9100, and I still have it. Best. Phone. Ever. Created. I skype with my friends using the front facing camera, watch HD videos while exporting to my HD TV, and connect a mouse and keyboard and surf the web while on vacation. I even leave my laptop at home when I travel on short trips now. I just hook up the phone to the hotel's TV and browse the web.
So the reason I prefer Android is that you can do anything you can on an iPhone and a lot more. IOS is discovering an alien civilization deep within space while Android is finding an empty planet and colonizing it.

Android Rocks
Hands down Android ....
Apple is just UI & the Brand they have managed to create over the years.
Android is the best that that could happen to Mobile devices...
From my "experience" (@Israel) most people with iphones are those who use their PCs just for facebook, they just dont want anything "complicated".
Android is more of a thinking man's platform (imo!)
Once a friend of mine bragged that the iphone is simple & small while android (galaxy nexus) is too complicated, messy and huge.
It made me chuckle cuz most people (including him) have huge cases on their iPhone's making it bigger and uglier than my HTC desire, which survived, and continues to kickass w/o a case for almost two years now.

Just saying, if that's all I did on my smartphone, I wouldn't spend the extra money a month for a data plan. I would just have a regular flip phone.

iAgree. But I think iPhone(along with all Apple products) makes some kind of ego for the owner. Other people think they are rich and elegant etc.
But as we all know, it's not cool to own an iPhone

Actually, iPhones don't cost more than any other Android super phones. People just think iPhones are expensive because they don't offer a lot of bang for your buck.

Apple is a novelty item now a days. Just to show off that they have it.
In the early days, it was the thing to have because it had all the apps and all the things people would want but now that Android is growing and developing more, it's almost the same for normal users. Of course the android needs to be on even grounds with the apple phone to be considered. ie iPhone 4 to Sg2, Razr, nexus.
For Normal users, if they don't customize the rom, and use it is as is. I think Apple would be the most useful for them.
For "Advanced" users (I use advanced lightly), the Android can do a lot more than Apple in terms of customization and useage.
Personally I'd go with Android. I thought about getting an iPhone but in the end I chose the galaxy S.

uuh, oh rly?
i see a difference of whooping 300.- here
Shush...
Given the kind of feedback that's coming out I suggest we keep this thread under the radar, lest Apple decide to sue us for breaking one of their patents.
Considering the patents they have, I wouldn't be surprised they patented "the ability to have an opinion on a smartphone and its real value" by now! They typically use that patent to spread wrong ideas against Android phones (forceclosing issues, copying, etc) and in favour of their product (the "innovative" FaceTime for instance, new notification system, etc) to their sheep..er.. I mean, customers.
My Opinion
My own feeling is that the iphone is great for those who want an item that comes out of a box in a usable form that they can conform to.
The android is best for someone that wants to customize their phone to their likes, and for the tasks they will perform.
My wife would probably do great with an I-phone, She has an android, but she has never changed anything about it since the second day she had it.
I am always trying roms, kernals, and apps to make my phone perfect for me.
my gf recently got her first android.
after a day she asked me if she could change that stupid lockscreen from samsung to something.. more useful.
i showed her widgetlocker
now her lockscreen looks cooler than mine... xD
thats something what would've been impossible with an iphone..

The biggest thing that annoys me with apples OS is the lack of a dedicated back button and the functionality that goes along with it. Its very annoying to open a link in an email and then have to manually go back to the email app. Very disorienting. Every other mobile os has some way of accomplishing this.
all know that apple is the world's most famous, loved and reliable company. Has great fan following but when i consider or even think of b s we uying an IDEVICE....i think of loosing all the customization and tweaks i use to do with my own samsung device......i purchased Galaxy note2 few months back and if i compare it now in market, there are almost 5 devices which look exactly same as my Galaxy note2, and how can i forget the build quality(cheap plastic **** all over them).
Being a hardcore gamer i purchased a quadcore device thinking i would be able to play all games(earlier i had tab2 dual core) but now question arises is AM I HAPPY WITH GAMING EXP.?
certainly not. There are lot of title which are not on android and also here THD games into the picture costly galaxy devices doesn't support THD titles but how cum all these are playable on IDEVICES? We all know this but without any lags unbelievable
IOS VS ANDROID less extreme
customization ''
---------------------------------------------
less very high
tweaks and fun
due to restrictions ''
and other reasons
---------------------------------------------
highy stable less ''
--------------------------------------------
less devs lot ''
choice to work ''
----------------this is not it ----------------------
samsung- keeps cheating apple and increasing sales and earning a lot.
apple- crying and suing samsung
Court-no result
apple vs samsung big fight but apple don't cheat....lol....who cares people want quality this is what samsung does
don't u guys think its the time to return the favour back and apple should take a big step and launch its first android device
like htc did, they are lauching windows as well as android devices playing on both's sides
WHO CARES? MONEY AND CUSTOMERS SATISFACTION SHOULD BE THE FIRST PRIORITY.
MY QUESTIONS
will this ever happen?
If yes u are ready to buy such device?
Nice Quote:never get too attached to things(IOS) otherwise up will get outdated

I'm very curious how games developed for Tegra devices work on iOS.

Absolutely incorrect, not at all the world's most loved company at all. Everyone hates the fact that they can get away with releasing the same thing each year with the same 5-year-old OS and no innovation and still make the best-selling phone of the year.
No, Apple will never release a device with Android. That's completely absurd. It would be like Microsoft announcing their new Surface which runs Ubuntu out of the box.
Now, I don't actually know what the point of this thread is but the entire bit in the middle is a bit difficult to understand, maybe you could try a different translator?
Finally, the reason games work smoother on iOS is because of app optimisation. It helps that the iPhone has a great GPU but the main reason is that devs only have to optimise their apps for a small range of phones on the App store whereas the apps on the Play store have to work for hundreds of different phones with different chipsets. You get things like Tegra optimised apps but not much more.
