Whatsapp for android 1.6? - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

Do you know if anyone is porting whatsapp application to work in android 1.6?? I know pingchat works for us, but all my friends with bb and iphone are using whatsapp
Sent from my U20i using Tapatalk

I think you have to wait till the update, searched the net for a while myself and could not found it for 1.6
Sent from my rooted X10i using tapatalk

i believe its 2.x and above only

i wish it was possible to have it on 1.6, i begged there development team to make it for 1.6 up but as they are a iPhone development team they just want to do things the easy way.

X10 OS 2.1 is pushed further more until October or the end of October. I searched online via Google and found that info, thought it may be useful for some.

thanks for sharing
cheers

R u serious? They only care about Iphones? But this is going to suck for all us x10 users..who KNOWS when this 2.1 update will be!! Is anyone able to get it to work on a root x10? I want Whatsapp so badly!!

I can only add my voice to everyone else's. I really want WhatsApp so bad and I wish someone could port it to 1.6 sometime soon. I really think Sony Ericsson haven't done themselves any good by deceiving us about this 2.1 update. I'm not really a developer,so rooting my device is kind of out of the question. had it not been for that,I would have done so,just to get WhatsApp

Rooting your device has nothing to do with what software is available with respects to the version of Android you're running. If the app you want requires 2.x or above and you are running 1.6, rooting will do nothing to fix that.

To those people who says X10 out of date OS does not matter, this is a perfect example of problem encountered.
Even if we update our X10 to Eclair in Nov, programs that requires Froyo still cannot be used.
I think it is time to move to a handset with the latest OS. Anyone can comment on which brand has good firmware support?

It is an app that allows you to message people, a bit like BlackBerry messenger, except it works on iphones, BlackBerries and any android v2 or above - so unfortunately not ours yet.. :-(

Thanks xxx

What's the big deal with Whatsapp anyways?? It's any regular messenger like msn messenger that works the same and can be used on any smart phone.

I've been looking around, HTC seems to be a good candidate.

Hardware specs look attractive but the battery is disappointing and they have bad technical support. Give it a try if you want as I have own numerous HTC phones and I would say about their phones, lousy quality, lousy battery life and lousy technical support.
Will use my X10 till SE launch the X12 with 12MP camera, HTC has some time to catch up with the hardware specs.

Need opinion about Android

Hi,
I really need your input about Android. I am planning to move to HTC Desire, which runs Android 2.1.
I really know what's good about Android, I really do.
But ...
What are the known issues with it? Seriously, there must be some issues, right?
If you can come up with reasoning why I should NOT move to Android, please let me know.
At this moment, I am using HTC Kaiser with custom WM6.1 Rom.
Thanks,
Sincerely,
gogol
hmm
This will be a quiet thread.
theres nothin' wrong with the android. its perfect (or will be)
The only problem with the HTC Desire I can see is that when newer versions of Android come out, you wont be able to upgrade to them, you'd have to wait for HTC To release an updated version with Sense UI.
This wont effect you at all, being on XDA you'll just be able to download an updated rom with an updated version of Android as soon as it hits the AOSP
Just to compare, the Nexus Android 2.1 rocks with very few bugs that can't be fixed by XDA! Check out it's XDA forum for details, info, pro's, etc.
There is really nothing that android can do that windows mobile cant.

Surely this is a positive? You get all the functions of Windows Mobile in a nice easy to use interface, finger friendly, more supported and an app store with over 10000 apps?

Which Android mobile? Switcching my X-10

Hello guys.
I was wondering which mobile i should select with android?
I'm planning to switch out my Xperia X-10, due to the lame software updates (only 1,6) When i bought it for 4 months ago, SE promissed a software update with 2.1 or 2.2 within 2-3 months. But still no sign of anything
I'm confused about selecting a HTC Desire, or a Samsung Galaxy S?
But i've read alot about many problems with the samsung mobile, so maybe the HTC is the best? HTC is very serious about software development, the Desire already got 2.2
Greetings M8's
Imagine that just when you get rid of the x10i they upgrade it
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
Desire I would choose as it´s HTC

I find it kind of odd, that in my homeland Taiwan, where the company HTC is; people there aren't exactly a huge fan of HTC products haha. Sorry off topic.
I Also think that the HTC would be the best choice.. seems like Samsung do have a lot of bugs in there phone.. but maybe it would be a good idea to wait, and see if SE are coming with that update before Christmas.. but will it then take about a half year before 2. 2 is released again?

If u want sth up-to-date sooner that anyone else, get a N1
U can run Desire rom on it as well
The poor build of Galaxy, no flash and its home launcher is a let down for me
Don't Blame S.E for this, you Knew it had 1.6 on it. Hate when People expect the update to come that fast, It takes time for this to happen....

Maybe I should have kept my X10

One of the reasons why I switched from the X10 to the Captivate was because Samsung promised to upgrade to 2.2, while Sony Ericsson stated that it could only upgrade the X10 to 2.1. What Samsung did not say is that its 2.2 upgrade could not do bluetooth voice dialing. This is a big issue for me because California requires hands free use of a cellphone.
So, now with the news that Sony Ericsson will upgrade the X10 to 2.3 after all, I find myself feeling like one of those guys in a V8 commercial. I know there are a couple of custom Roms that allow voice dialing, but I wish Samsung would have supported it. How hard is it, really?
Anyway, I hope Samsung now feels the pressure to update the Captivate to 2.3 too.
XDA Devs > Samsung Devs, so I don't really feel like we need Samsung support.
We've been having Android 2.2 ROMs for close to 6 months now, and we already have some 2.3 ROMs under development (CM7, MIUI), so IMO you shouldn't regret switching to the Cappy (apart from GPS issues )
I think the X10 is the worst android phone ever... no multi touch? that just killed the whole android ecosystem in that phone, I recently got a craptivate while is not the best phone it is million years better than the crappy X10, you can even drop android 4 on it and will think the same.. besides they still have that driver/color issue on all ROMS... trust me you have a good phone (Captivate) Besides there are so many dev's that upgrading to a better android version won't be any issues. just be ready to flash.. and flash A LOT.
Try a custom ROM. Cognition, Perception (discontinued but still a stable, fast ROM) FireFly and most others are running 2.2 with bluetooth voice dialing. I don't know about all, but I know from personal experience those three do.

I sold my x10 to come to the captivate. I got no regrets. Although custom kernels will soon be available as a bypass has been found on the x10. Also it has multitouch now

I thought the multitouch was all janky because the hardware wasn't meant to support it and it was enabled by some software trickery?
Samsung is releasing official Gingerbread to Galaxy S line soon. We will enjoy the GT-i9000 Gingerbread after the sourcecode is released. Very likely much earlier then SE update their device.
One more thing, if your X10 is an AT&T branded device, you might not get the update.

[Q] possible to port meego?

Hey People and developers! i was wondering if its possible to port meego os to our htc sensation, since meego is based on a linux kernal and i believe its open source. i know not all features would work but if development gets put into this i believe its possible. I hhope to see a developer to try this and i would help in any way possible also htc has released open source sdk(if it helps lol)
Link to a website that shows its possible :

Think you may be in for a major flaming...brace yourself
But I'd say no, to answer your question, and I'd have to respond with why??

haha good answere, my answere is to see something new, e.g miui > too iphonish , Cm7> stock Aosp, Htc sense roms> tweaks to stock sense etc... meego> something new and interesting
I'd say it's possible...MeeGo is indeed based on Linux and is open source...I'll see if I can get anything going when I get home from holidays
To post #2: MeeGo is actually really good...or at least Nokia's version is. When Nokia first announced the N9, I dreamt of a 4.3 dual core MeeGo phone...if MeeGo could be ported to the Sensation, that would be fantastic!
This would be great. Something else to toy around with and meego definately has potential, just that not as many hardware companies have jumped on board compared to android
I would also like to see meeGo. meeGo is interesting and I would to play with it without buying a new phone.
@EddyOS,
If he had mentioned porting and TouchWiz in the same sentence (uh oh I just did) then yeah he'll probably be in for major flaming.

That's what's going around here now, the slogan of this board before 'prepare for flaming' became fashionable was 'because we can'
Anyway, +1 to see meego running on our phones, I'd love to check it out
I think it will be much more feasible after the n9 is released
Lol wow

QUESTION about android L

Hello guys!
I wanna ask I see lots of video about android L, but I cant wait!
And do you think is there any option for porting L to our device?

CM ver will probably continue supports One S but no more HTC Sense. HTC said it officially M7 will receive Android L within 90days so indeed we still have chance but only after kernel sources released.
I doubt we still have any devs live in this board at that time, they probably will all move to other newer HTC phones.
There will still be devs looking to port it, guaranteed. All phones have devs that stick around for a long time.

I guess it is not possible, many devs already not owned their One S and been moved to other phones now. I can't believe the rest of devs will still have it next year. Yes, I think there will still have someone who try to port but it will be a never stable release edition and can not using as a daily driver.
