[APP] New Xscope update version 6 - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Had Xscope lite on my Nexus as the default browser. The reason I loved it was because of the look, it was "lite" unlike the other browsers like Opera (which do run faster) I liked xscope because the top bar was minimal and scrollable.
With this new version they COMPLETELY changed it! Now it has a watermark that reads "trial version" totally TACKY! And two navigation bars!!! How can they make such a drastic change?!
Needless to say uninstalled. Now going to try to find an apk for the older version.
SUCKS BALLS!

I was very surprise too this morning when i install this new update going back to previous one too.

Please let me know if you find the previous version.

why not just stop being cheap and help support the dev by buying the full one?

Just installed the trial and bought straight away - can't believe I missed this!

I think the original version looks better. Luckily found the apk for the original version. Glad you like it though.

because the browser isn't even one of the top 5 available.
the dev hasnt been shy about charging more than it is worth becuase google "takes too much"
the full version isn't worth the asking price

Aye, dolphin did the same thing.
The original one had a very simplistic tab bar, but now with the HD version you need to swipe all the way to the corner of the screen to call upon a stupid popup tab bar.
I need to find how to save old apks, anyone know which folder they're stored in?

Because its not in the top 5? Name what you think is better. For me xScope blows every browser away..only thing close is Dolphin (non HD).
About the dev charging too much?...its three dollars? You could find that on the ground in one day. Damn...I mean damn do we (Android users) need to support our devs...look, I have to say this on a dev forum
Full version is worth the price to many, but in a few weeks all of the old features that are missing at this moment will be replaced. Wait and see...this browser is going to be so complete. It's already number one in my book.

yeah. Xscope 5 is the best browser available. Its a bit slow and laggy on Vibrant, but its still very good. V6 changed everything, i downgraded immediately to V5 and emailed developer to maybe try to change his mind and go back to developing V5 (some extra features, more optimization, but keep the GUI)

Improvements to v6 will be coming from the dev. On my phone its running faster then the older version...by far! Instant back and forward, faster page loads, ..better everywhere. Dev said he will be adding in more features that were left out but it does take time. He needs to make sure he does it right, or there would be bugs.

Yeah it definitely loads pages faster, but accessing tabs is a little more of a pain in the ass. You can't have the tab bar open by itself, the stupid control bar always has to be open at the same time.

Agree. He shouldn't have changed the UI and just improved functionality. A lot of people don't seem to be happy with the changes. I emailed him too. Hopefully he gets it.

Personally, I hope he keeps doing what he's doing.
Sure there are things that aren't in the new one that were in the old one (such as a custom user agent per favourite), but the dev. has already said the additional features are coming.
There may be some ppl who don't like the new look, but others do, and it seems a lot faster than the old one. It's a total re-write, so I'm sure he's coded it much better having learned some lessons.
But hey, I only supported the guy 6 months ago when I bought it, so I'm sure my opinion doesn't count as much as those who are freeloading the unpaid trial version...

To avoid three presses to get to bookmarks, you can make bookmarks your home page, and start an extra tab leaving the bookmarks tab available. You can swipe between tabs to get to your bookmarks tab.

Swype...

Forgive me if this was mentioned elsewhere, but any chance on a swype port for HTC Hero?
I heard it may be working on Eris.
There is a video showing a demo of a similar application running on the Eris....
looking into it, I guess it's not out yet, but yeah
First, this would be better in the apps forum. It is a cross device app so it fits better there. Regardless, check out ShapeWriter on the Android Market. It does the same thing and IMO it is amazing! Seriously thinking about buying it (which I never do). Takes some getting used to but they have a 30 day free trial. Definitely recommend.

I dont think so but I'm not sure. My biggest complaint with it is the fact that it has the comma button so close to space and so big. I always hit too many commas. But I would recommend we all support this developer as this app is awesome. I have nothing to gain but I think that's what Android needs. More devs like this making kick ass apps.

agreed, well except for the comma issue, I haven't hit it very many times yet.
but yeah, we need to get this dev to build us more stuff.
I'm running the trial for now, I'll prob purchase it after the holidays.
(not too much money, just extremely busy)
I bought it flat out, and completely happy, no regret. And I will say that when I want to hit period, I hit question mark, when I want to hit question mark, I hit 123 and switch layouts, ugh...otherwise...
Also, if you have problems with a word not picking up, it probably doesn't know it, type it out manually, hit add, then it finds it just fine, was my only major complaint, but SO simple to remedy. Really love this.

I havent really noticed. I have been running it for a few weeks and it seems fine for me. I run my Gutted rom with Apps2SD and I have Advanced Task Manager set to close apps every hour so I keep a good amount of free memory around anyway. But overall, I havent noticed any decrease in memory when using this over the HTC IME.

[Q] Cognition vs. CM6

I've been using Cognition 2.1 and SRE since I got my Captivate. I have to say that I am very pleased with designgears stock rebuilds and they definitely made the user experience of the phone much better.
However, having come from a SE x10a, I never really had the opportunity to run any Cyanogen roms, much less CM6, on a phone meant specifically for Android (I did get it running on my HTC Touch Pro and HD2).
Does anyone have any first hand experience with running CM6 on a "real" Android phone and how does it compare to the current Cognition 2.1.5? Should I be holding my breath for CM6 or are the differences minimal (minus Froyo of course)?
Well, considering Cognition is just sourced together improvements in an all in one package, and Cyanogen mod is re-worked code they aren't even in the same ballpark. If and when CM drops it will be very different from Cognition.
Yeah I've had experience with Cyanogen on a Nexus one, and the speed improvements and big updates that add a lot of features, i used Cognition, and i have a couple gripes. first DG updates too frequently, i hate having to keeping using titanium backup, it literally takes an hour to get all my stuff back the way i want, he updates like everyday i swear. Secondly the updates are really buggy still, i had issues on my phone getting really random errors. Cyan has a ton of developers behind it, it really makes the phone, can't wait for it to be on Captivate.

Hmm well i didn't know for sure, he updates too much, i just stopped after 2.1.1, i hate updating, and flashing, and troubleshooting if something goes wrong haha, i mean Cog is something needed to push development on the Captivate. I mean IMO I'm not a big fan of COG, but its good to know people are working hard on our phone despite all the attention on the Vibrant.

I think it was after 2.1.1 when he started releasing update versions that don't touch /data so leave your apps & settings alone. I do agree though that the releases are too frequent, I'd expect such frequent releases when during the 0.X stage not 2.X.
I'm currently on 2.1.4 and am waiting for 2.1.6 to be released & for other guinea pigs to test it before I upgrade as even just disabling the voodoo lagfix, updating and re-enabling the lag fix is a pain.

Agreed, at least for touchwiz. Not sure about Sense.
Having said that, I understand CM makes changes to stock, so it sounds like it's basically a light skin as well. So not sure if those features are worth it. I love the TW brightness change on notification bar swype. If I knew how to submit ideas to CM, I would submit that. Swiping contacts is very nice too. And of course the notification bar toggles are great.
Launcher pro fixes the rest.
seriously, QQ moar, you're honestly complaining about having too many updates and too much support from the dev community? Look at the other galaxy S forums, they dont even have anything as cool as that, I mean Cognition is just 20 steps rolled into one ROM of what you'll do anyway, stripping many annoying things of the rom out and adding a few patches here and there.. its NOT a vanilla rom, its not anything thats not heavily based on what samsung/ATT put out there.
Its a dude constantly trying to make your phone better, thats hardly a bad thing. You can stick to Cognition 2.1 as i'm doing if you want and just wait for whatever else comes out based on a new samsung/ATT firmware. No one is forcing you to update, read the changelog and if nothing affects you leave your phone as it is.

Yea, I dont mind touchwiz so much. But the one thing I HATE about it is the fact that Samsung did away with the stock Android bluetooth stack and replaced it with one of their own, now we cant use bluetooth game controllers with it.
But other than that, TW with LauncherPro on top of it is pretty good.

I just leave my brightness set to auto. I tried the swiping to change brightness, but didnt like it. One swipe to the left made it go lowest brightness and one swipe to the right made maximum brightness, nothing in between. Thats why I use Auto. But I do love the notification area toggles for Wifi, bluetooth, etc. Just wish they had GPS in there as well like the other phones do.

My MSI Bluetooth GamePad works great. It's the Wii controller that doesn't play well.
I love the development on the Captivate i just don't particularly like all the enhancements that DG has added on the COG ROM. Battery drained like crazy with it. but anyways. yeah TW does have something special about it. some really neat enhancements over that stock experience, i haven't had any experience with Sense but hopefully a ROM will come out soon.
If and when cyan is released for this phone I will swap in a heart beat.
You get a customized light install with all of your favorite mods already installed already. Plus you get updated pushed directly to your phone.

There is a trick to the brightness slider. In order to keep you from changing brightness accidentally, they made the initial spot you touch a dead zone. What you have to do is if you want the screen to be set somewhere on the lower end of the brightness scale, start swiping on the right side and work your way down. If you want to be on the brighter end of the scale, start all the way to the left and work your way up. If you want to be in the middle, just start at either extreme. It seems complicated at first, but it gets to be second nature really fast.

I'll miss plenty. Also, since samsung doesn't release driver source code, CM to leave the galaxyies behind when 3.0 comes out until (and if) samsung releases or leaks some 3.0 roms.
If I update to Cyanogen (when it comes out) or Cognition will I lose Swype?

At any rate, I think VS may still have a shot at this. If they can push the update before the 25th than they might still have a chance. I can even imaging the G-tablet competing with the ipad if they ether A) Fix TnT B)Have a disable option.

Roeby,
Subjective question, but since I am super happy with a nice & stable 2.4, do you think 3.0 is worth upgrading to? One thing I am not thrilled about is losing the ratings stars on apps in the market.
I actually prefer the old market. My Incredible (even though rooted) updated to the new market. Too busy, IMO. Old market is nice & simple. Seems Android is trying for the XBOX look
Any insight on what makes 3.0 worth the jump would be appreciated
Newer Nvidia drivers in the update, as an example perhaps? added: Regardless, I just did a CW back-up and new Titanium update, just in case

I went back and forth about the stars, myself. You could just as easily downgrade Vending.apk versus upgrade, and I figured that Google might force the upgrade on you, anyway (they've done that the last two times and it's how I got 2.2.7 in the first place). So I figured the new Market was the way to go.
3.0 does has video improvements, new Maps, TSCalibration hack and of course the SDCARD2 scanning which is a big plus in the new firmware. I think it's worth getting.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to this community, Adam.

I agree. It is refreshing to see a company react to things as they are in the real world instead of the idealization that they had for product conception. I feel like a lot of big name companies would have never acknowledged a "lowly internet forum" as a source for feedback and product insight. Viewsonic earns a lot of kudos for their prompt response to kernal source issues. Even though the original stock is viewed as a fail by most, Viewsonic addressing the issue publicly AND actually releasing updates is very good business.
I feel much happier holding my gtab and no longer wonder if I should be taking advantage of the return window.
Yup, good for VS. As a side note, I was going to buy a panasonic projector, but now I'm looking at VS, because of the positive way they have responded here.

Not all the devs have xooms yet,
Wait till IO and we will see a bunch of new and existing apps for honeycomb
If you download Spare Parts and disable compatibility mode it will full scale the apps that are fixed to phone dimensions
Most of the time, its not as simple as the developer getting a new SDK and rebuilding with it. New SDK's cause new bugs and new instabilities.
They have to remake all new art work for larger screens and high resolutions so that takes time.
And the Android Tablets aren't exactly "readily available" like Android phones are. Guys who are coding at home on weekends may not have the cash to pick one up right now. (That accounts for a lot of apps) Big companies also want to see how the market reacts to tablets before they invest in development of software for one when the entire market could flop (Doubtful, but not without its risk).
I'm an android developer in my day job and I promise you, if you want apps that really take advantage of honeycomb they have to be rebuilt from the ground up in the interface department at least. There are some exceptions but on the whole...
Be patient and the updates will come.
I'm even working on a couple of apps at home specially for the XOOM.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Since this is the first tablet that dropped with Honeycomb, it might be a bit for everyone to catch up. The same thing happened when Windows computers went from XP to Win 7 OS. It took a bit for the software developers to remake newer versions.
Its strange that we dont even see support (right now) for big companies like facebook or twitter. or even some other google apps dont have that support yet.

I'm guessing Google hasn't given them the AOSP before the public? Or maybe there wasn't any incentive for them to develop an app for something they didn't think would have the market share.
I remember when I first got my HTC Dream a couple of years ago, that there wasn't even a Facebook app out yet for it (it was still on stock Donut ROM from Rogers).

True, a lot of these sites work just fine with the browser (Stock, Dolphin). One thing that is a little bit off topic is the ability to hide the status bar (or go fullscreen with the browser) so we can really get the 10.1 inches rather then the 8 or so that we get with everything on the screen.

Question CoverScreen OS vs Samsprung

Have anyone used CoverScreen OS or Samsprung in Z Flip 3? Which one do you think is better and which one is safer?
Edit : I decided to close the poll so that this thread will not be biased to one side. Let's just share the features and differences between both products and let anyone decide their own choice.

Interesting question
It's difficult to answer because they are both under development and not finished apps
I am trying both of them and both craches from time to time, but as mentioned, beta versions
Personally I prefer Samsprung, there are news every day (several times usually) and I think it's really great, and well done job
Cover OS is way out of proportions regarding price, too expensive for a none working app, and also if it's working
At any time I would go for Samsprung
Just my opinion
Both developers have done a great job! thanks to them!
I'd also go with Samsprung. Way better support, updates, more features ect. The developer is also very responsive.
Cover Os has just entered Beta status and has a price tag that is obnoxious. Yes, i understand lots or blood, tears and work has gone into it, but as it still is, half baked software, the price is out of this world. We have to pay for something that we are testing, no thanks.
i'm totally fine paying when things are up and running as should, and i encourage both developers to put a price for their work. But as of now, no.
Of course Samsprung...
Do a poll, it'll answer you...
A few weeks ago I would have said CoveScreen OS, but the SamSpring suddenly took lead and I now find it superior.
The navbar, the customizable app launcher, keyboard(!), no features behind paywall, compatibility with stock widgets, super quick and responsive developer. It's an easy choice for me.
It's all wrong, trying to compare 2 apps trying to do different things - they are both in beta and developing very fast.
We are very lucky to have 2 very talented developers making that [ex-factory useless screen] into something geniunely useful.
Try each one - for a couple of days, not for 5 minutes. Then you have to reach your own conclusion.
And don't consider pricing for the moment, only once it/they are out of beta.
Please don't make a poll, that could impact development of one of the apps.

I agree with you 100% it's not fair on anyone to choose one or the other, there was a time when the moderators would have taken down a post such as this.
In my opinion this is a valid question.
Should you pay blindly for something that might not function correctly (beta) and you cannot test fully to see if it fills your needs.
or test something that is fully free and you can test all features and if they fills your needs.
But of course, test both. one you can test fully, the other you can.

IMO since both are in development it's too early to even make a comparison. Both apps are moving very fast, so stability and functionality are not comparable. They are both moving targets at the moment
Maybe after both of their general availability, since then they are notionally stable.
If you're commenting about the subscription policy of one of them, I have tested its free version and haven't felt constrained. And there is no way that those values would fly in the Google Play universe, so I really doubt they are definitive values (time will tell, just my thoughts).
But still, once they are released and updates are incremental, why not run a poll.
Both applications interest me. I have only tried Coverscreen OS as I use Samsung Health persistently. I'm following both threads at present. Kudos to both developers

Thank you for this! Much appreciated.
I'm brand new to this phone and kinda not impressed with it (so far)..I'm a serious gadget nerd, so the flip/fold tech played too big a part in my decision to get it..I'd watched a samsprung video before I'd bought it so did expect a lot more use of the front screen than I get at the minute...like I said I am new to it so hoping to like it more the more I get to do with it but a quick question about samsprung, can it be used on android 12 or no? I updated the phone soon as I got it, then started seeing that it can't be used with A12!? Is there a way/work around?

Both are pretty cool and somehow useful. Personally I don't use them because I don't need them and everything I'd like to have is just some more widget on the stock cover screen. However we're pretty luck to have those two developers here.
CoverScreen OS ask for way too many permissions, some really strange, i was not to ever able to run it, so yes for Samsprung
For me, the UI/UX of CoverScreen OS is better.
