I figured I'd start this thread as a place where we can all post and share our custom splash screen images.
The splash image is what you see as soon as you power on your phone (the standard one is solid black with "htc" in white/silver).
Thanks to tehdarkknight for showing us how to add a custom splash screen at bootup.
See his post here to learn how to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765429
He also has the tool needed to convert the image to .rgb565 in that post.
Image sizes are 320w x 480h.
The OPTIMAL image format is 72 PPI, and saving it as a .PNG. JPGs work too but not always as well.
You'll have to zip your .rgb565 files to attach them to your post, and then if possible please also attach some kind of preview thumbnail (.png, .gif, .jpg) so we can actually see a preview of the image. Follow my first post as an example.
Here are a few I've already made. I'll add many more so keep checking back. And others feel free to take a post and add your own stuff too. (You can only attach 8 files to one single post, so feel free to take multiple posts if you have lots of images to share.)
No bashing each other's work -- let's keep it open for any type of creativity out there.
Enjoy!
WARNING!!! DO NOT FLASH THESE .ZIPS TO YOUR PHONE! THESE ARE NOT FLASHABLE ZIPS!!! They are just the compressed .rgb565 graphics that you will need to unpack on your computer.
Mods -- could we soon consider making this a sticky perhaps?
A few more
Here's a few more.
And more w/ "htc" text
Added "htc" text in these.
EDIT: This birds one came out kinda grainy. I'll come back and fix it later.
I doubt anyone is going to want to use this one
Man that EXP one is tight as hell.
Ok so ill ask this one in here, I made one really quick from a wallpaper I made awhile back and I mean this it a high Res image. Its 320x480 and its 300ppi but after using the tool to create the. Rgb565 file it looks like crap like I took an image and streched it too far. Any suggestions?

Try reducing the original down just to typical screen resolution of 72ppi maybe? Perhaps that tool doesn't like super high-res graphics. Maybe that's what happened to my "htc birds" one a couple posts up, too.
I tried that as well because that's what I thought. Maybe tonight when I get back to the hotel ill make it again from scratch to see if that helps. Btw what program are. You using?

thats what I did to and yes the effect that you got with the birds is the same thing that I am getting.
Edit: ok so I tried saving the image out of CS5 as different formats and found that jpg was the problem its probably something with the compression that jpg has but if you save it as png its perfect.

Pretty cool stuff. Remember to download the additional equirectangular images that go with it.
I downloaded this at work today and installed it. This has got to be one of the coolest live wallpapers yet. I love that you can make it move based on your orientation. It's almost like augmented reality in a way. Really impressed my co-workers haha.
I can't help thinking how cool this would be in a fantasy/sci-fi scene. It'd be like rotating your phone and seeing Pandora all around you.
Why is that phone in the video so long?!
wow, nice find. i loved it, except that when i pan the wallpaper, it also swipes the screen over. but, very very cool, i gotta admit
thats pretty cool...

right?!? i thought it was general distortion on the video, but his hand looks normal. what is that???
its a motorola droid.... ? guessing its either just your brain being tricked from how close to the camera his hand is, or the angle, or possibly the kind of lens he's using.
I went to the link for the additional images and saved them to my Dropbox account from a computer. I opened up Dropbox on the Evo downloaded it but I can only choose from the default image that comes with the live wallpaper.
I went into the settings of live wallpaper and told it to look in /sdcard/dropbox but it's not finding the pictures. Can you guys point me in the right direction?
All links pulled due to XDA Request after an XDA member complained I was only out for profits to a moderator on a few products I have. Due to the fact I link to a product or two and a few other things in many videos, I was asked to pull any content relating to this.
I will still be offering all this great material at my website. Just go to google and search for MobileTechVideos.
Added link to new boot screen page on my website. Check it out in the bottom of the original post!
A+ Thanks
Checked out your offerings, good job
This is awesome, nice and simple. Thank you!

It should work no problems although I can't promise as I don't have a Roger's Captivate to test with. Worst case scenario is you would have issues and need to flash back to stock with ODIN.
Interesting. I was able to flash my picture of choice over, although it was a little too skinny (correct size needed?) and I managed a hat trick of having not only my pic, but also ATT's splash, and the Galaxy animation. I know as of right now you can't change the animation, but I was under the impression that the ATT splash would be overwritten, unless I'm missing something here.
EDIT: Whoops. Found out what I did wrong. But for those interested in fun facts, if you don't size it right, you'll still get the ATT splash. Herp Derp.
This should be put in the sticky thread!
Also, I'd like to add that I was able to make my boot screen 750X500 and it turned out quite nice. The aspect ratio is kept, so there's a bit more black space at the bottom, but I can live with that.
Guys I'm using cm7 on my captivate and I was asking if this method would work for me?

I noticed that when I use odin and the param.lfs file for my Captivate it doesn't remove the AT&T logo. Any idea why?
Because your seeing the AT&T kernel screen. You'll need to flash a different kernel without it if you don't want to see that.
So it is kernel-->boot logo--> boot animation. But if I follow the instruction in the post I get. custom image-->at&t img-->samsung animation.

No it's boot logo> kernel> boot animation. What you are seeing is correct.
the fun part is, hes not allowed to post his own videos, cuz it could potentially make HIMSELF money.

I know this is a bit old, but I only have 1 complaint about this method and want to see if anyone else has this problem.
Everything works fine, boot screen is changed, but it sort of ruins the volume up+power combo. Instead of a reboot, it takes you to another screen (some sort of error screen) and you'll have to do a battery pull or time it right so as soon as the screen turns black, you let go of everything and then just hold the power button to turn the phone on. Though this is a pretty minor issue, I prefer the vol up+power over a custom boot screen. I appreciate all of your work though Josh and I understand if the error is just a consiquence of the custom boot screen.
What do you mean some sort of error screen?
It shouldn't touch any sort of button combo, those are in the sbl.bin not the param.lfs which is where the the boot splash is.

How should it be installed? Like a normal app?
EDIT: I just tried to install it like normal and it gets stuck on "Loading live wallpaper..." as with previous versions. It probably has something to do with Tegra drivers -- the APK will need to be modified.

Dude! I have gotten that stupid message, "Screenshot saved to SD Card" something like half a dozen times now (based on the number of screen captures in the friggin' folder). I had NO idea what the heck I was doing to get that. I will admit that I didn't go poking around my SD card to find out what the heck it was since I was playing around with other things/mods... After seeing this post, I checked and there is a new directory called SceenCapture on the SD Card... Well'l b' (red neck talk)! Okay, now that I know what the message is. Thanks!

I'm not sure on how you would make it grey exactly, but your best would be fine. I appreciate it. It also will need transparency.
