[Q] Notify for new email also in Outlook folders - General Questions and Answers

Is there an app which tweaks the new email notifcation so that not only new emails in the inbox are recognized but also new emails in other folder of the Outlook account?
The reason for that requirement is that I have server site rules that move new emails into folders when/before they arrive and it would be great if I still could be notified when they arrived.

Moved as not software release.

But it's not a Q&A issue either because it's a fact that this is not possible and I was wondering if a developer out there was interested in building an app for this.

I have been looking for the same solution for years and have yet to find an answer.
I have settled by making some rules inactive (uncheck them) for any e-mail that I need to be notified about right away. All of those mails now go to the inbox. When I'm at my desktop client, I run the rules manually on the inbox. (You can run them all without re-checking them.) It's about three or four clicks or so.
Not a perfect solution, but the best I've been able to come up with.

Email notification for e-mail in inbox and subfolders

I'm posting this here since it's more of a general WM5 question...
I'm very happy with the new ROM for my HTC Wizard, and Push Email especially.
However, in Microsofts infinite wisdom I am not alerted when new e-mail arrives in subfolder to the main Inbox (however, I am alerted when I get new email in the main inbox). I'm not very surprised since Outlook 2000/XP/2003 works the same way, but it is very annoying having unread e-mail I don't know about.
Is there a program or a ToDay-plugin or a registry setting or anything that enable alerts for new e-mail in subfolders?
*bump*
I would very much like to have this feature as well. I receive emails when servers go down, and I have an Outlook rule setup to send the email to a subfolder under my Inbox. I do not receive any notifications when I get emails in those subfolders. Did anybody ever figure out a way to get this working? I have a Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard).
I am sorry to bring up this old thread but I have the exact same question I seach around and didn't find anything. I also seach HF and seem like no one know if notificiation for sub folder is possible.
Can someone verifiy if getting email notification for sub folders is possible? I have a 8125 running wwm6 rom.
bump up to the top - looking for the same feature.
I am looking for this same feature. I am using emoze to sync my inbox and a few subfolders. I am using a AT&T Tilt (HTC kaiser) with WM 6.
So there is still no solution to this ?
It is a "feature" of Outlook.
Desktop and Mobile versions do not notify the system that subfolders have received a message. Desktop 2003 used to do this, and then it was removed.
I don't have a workaround for the Mobile version. On the Desktop, I use search folders instead of subfolders. It sucks, but it works.
The reason subfolders don't notify, is that most subfolders are used for non-important messages (i.e. spam, or system notifications). I get over 200 emails an hour about servers being up/down. So, I get a lot of notices. However, using subfolders, I never saw anything!!!
Yes I understand the rationale behind the 'feature'. But I have important mail in the subfolders. Unfortunately at this time there seems to be nothing we can do.
I was hoping a registry entry which would let us add a subfolder path or something like that.
Voice Command Will Tell You (sometimes)
I think there must be an event that can be trapped if someone (more capable than I) can cobble together a few lines of code.
I have MS Voice Command with the JetWare bluetooth addon. On my 8125 running WM5, I would get the read-out-loud notifications for mail delivered to subfolders. I've recently upgraded to a Tilt with WM6 and this bug/feature doesn't repeat.
I think this is a feature that many "power users" would appreciate... at least as an option.
Have a look at SPB Diary. This can show your emails on the today screen...including subfolders that you choose.
Did anyone ever find a better solution to this?
I saw people asking the same question here: http://discussion.wmexperts.com/showthread.php?p=1409571

I'm sure there's loads of other places where this has been suggested. It just seems like an obvious feature to me, especially if you are promoting WM6 as a business tool.

Too many notifications...
On a related note, this question:
My Hermes (AT&T 8525, WM5) alerts me when new mail arrives... that's no problem. However, If I don't stop and read it then, the next time it syncs it notifies me again about the same mail. Is there any way to set this up so that it will only sound a notification when something *NEW* comes in?
Thanx,

New email notification

Hello,
I have an issue with the way I use email that I've noticed in both WM5 and now WM6 (ie. no improvement!), and was wondering if anyone else has any ideas:
I use a server-side rule to move all incoming email that matches a certain filter into a separate folder (what this actually catches all emails sent to another email address which is in turn forwarded to my Exchange box), therefore I have my normal 'Inbox' another folder called 'Inbox 2'. This works very well for my needs, and indeed ActiveSync and DirectPush all work fine on my Windows Mobile device (have the 'Inbox 2' folder setup to sync).
The only problem is email notification on Windows Mobile. When I get a new email (using DirectPush) it gets pushed to my device and up pops the New Mail prompt. However, when I get a new email that automatically gets put in the 'Inbox 2' folder (server side) even though it gets pushed to my Windows Mobile device I do not get any notification. This means I find myself manually looking in this folder a few times a day to see if there are any updates.
Anyone else have a usage pattern similar? Any ideas on how to trigger a notification?
Cheers, Simon
I also use folders to categorize email, and as far as I've noticed, I do get the new email icon when a message goes into a filtered folder. What device/ROM are you using, as that may be one part of the problem/solution.

Hi - thanks for your reply!
Setup as follows:
HTC Touch, standard out-of-box ROM (WM6)
and i-Mate JAMin, standard ROM oem updated from HTC web site (WM5)
DirectPush email via Exchange 2003 Server
Server-side rule processing (ie. defined in Outlook 2007 but then stored and actioned on the server, thus rules work pre the emails hitting the client - part of the problem I think).
Any input you could offer greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Simon
After an exensive test of one (1) email, specifically created to trip my rules, it does appear that you don't get a notification. I'm now with the OP and would love it if someone knew of a reghack or modification to settings that would make these emails trigger a notification.
I'm on a HTC Wizard with mfrazz's Xda Release 3a and the same DirectPush enabled Exchange 2003 with serverside rules.
I think this is 'by design' (ie. you actually get exactly the same functionality in Outlook 2007 client on your desktop, however I've created a custom client-side rule to trigger a notification when emails are received to my filtered folders).
I too like you would ideally be looking for a reg hack (or similar) to extend the folder(s) which the built-in notification on Windows Mobile monitors.
<fingers crossed!>
Anyone know a solution for this? I do have the same issue.

Active Sync Question

Hi, I've got an issue with a user's Motorola Q and Active Sync with Windows Mobile 6. They are syncing with my Microsoft Exchange server and they have several folder aside from the inbox that are set up to sync. They have mail rules set up so that some types of new mail go directly to the other folder and bypass the inbox totally. All of this updates fine, but when they get new mail in these other folders they are not notified of the new message. It's there, but they have to go look in each folder and check to see if anything is new. I'm wondering if there is some fix that any new message that shows up will notify the user. I would even be willing to update their phone to WM6.1 if that would fix it and I could find a MotoQ update rom.
Thanks for any help!
Ok, through all my research I seem to find that this is a limitation in ActiveSync and it can only notify the user of new email received in the in Inbox. My question now is, does anyone know of any additional software that will enable notification of new email received in folders other than the inbox?
Thanks!

[Q] Exchange Server Rules - Not getting email notifications

Just added a load of rules to my Exchange server to move emails into specific folders. Problem is it's wrecked my Inbox on my Mozart; any email that has a rule applied is only accessible if I look for it in the 'Folders' section.
I really need the phone to give me notifications of all emails and I'd prefer it to not bother with all the folders if possible.
What are my options?
Given the email client MS is using on these phones I don't think so. I think your inbox on the phone is strictly tied to your exchange inbox and will not pull unread emails into it from folders (I think; this assumes I understand your situation which I might not).
Yes, I think you do understand my situation. I can pin individual folders to the Live Tiles list, but I've got quite a few folders, so that isn't practical or what I want to do.
Wondering if I can setup a rule that duplicates each email into another folder then I can just use that as my inbox, but then I'd lose the ability to Flag emails for attention and then deal with them on my PC.

[Q] Exchange functionality in WP7

Hello,
My company uses hosted Exchange Server for about 200 users, we have been using BB for many years, now we are free to go anyway we want.
Questions: When viewing e-mails from exchange account, can we move them to folders and when moving folders, can we type the name of the folder or do we have to scroll to find the one and then tap to move it? Or is there any app/add-on or customization we can get to allow this?
Also, do all folders get automatically synched to phone, or do we have to select which ones? I hope it syncs them all with no questions, especially when a new one is created on outlook.
Last question, is there a unified inbox for all folders, so e-mails in all folders (not just all accounts) displayed in one screen with icons next to them indicating they are in a folder? If not, that's cool.
I am just trying to move from BB to Windows Phone, and trying to figure out if it has the features I use most frequently.
Answers would really be appreciated.
You can move emails to folders. You must select the folder from a list. There are no apps or customizations AFAIK to change that.
All folders don't automatically get synced, but when you select a folder for the first time you get the option of turning on sync for that folder. Actually to be honest I am not sure if it syncs the folder just that once or if it will continue to sync that folder automatically.
There is no unified-folder view.
Thanks for the reply.
Someone answered this question else where with:
I figured it out recently, just click on bottom right "..." and you will see all the options you are looking for, all folders are there and can be selected + unified messaging....
Click to collapse
Is this possible? i don't own a WP7 device, so I can't try, can you check this please? Is this only for unified messaging from multiple accounts?
Regarding folder sync, the reason I asked is because if it automatically syncs all from exchange server, when you create a new folder on Outlook, you would not have to go back to you WP and select it. Is that the case?
Sync folders are not added automatically, you need to do so manually. The only folders synced by default are Inbox and Sent. Drafts can not be synced. All others can be but you have to set it up manually.
The assumed use case is that a user will only have a few folders inportant enough that they want to use the data and storage to sync them on the phone. Out of some 20-ish folders, I only sync 3 on my phone; the rest aren't time-critical. Exchange rules do a pretty good job of filtering the important from the unimportant for me. This way I can turn on the notification for new mail and have it mean something, rather than just have the phone buzzing all day (I get 300+ emails every day at work).
Just to add to this. They are not synced automatically but are listed automatically. You choose the folder then tell it to sync. after that it will follow the default settings for your exchange account and receive emails pushed.
Also you can pin any of those folders to your start screen. I have one for the directors, one for the CEO and one for staff that is always on my start screen.
We are using exchange 2010 at our office and it pretty much rocks. Also IE9 on Windows phone mango fully supports all outlook web mail options. Works great to access the extra calendars like rooms and such.
In your contacts also you can search the exchange server for an address. Exchange support rocks in windows phone.
Also download the emulator, setup an account and try it out. I think that's possible at least as you can test apps on the emulator.
lastly it also follows exchange rules. You can wipe the phone from (even the user can wipe there own) right through OWA on exchange 2010. Also you can set rules to force pin locks and i think although i haven't tried it, limit what the user can do.
Oh and one more thing... it has sharepoint built in. I haven't tried it yet as i just set up a sharepoint foundation server to pitch to the admins once i've worked more on it. That and onenote
