Hi, I've got an issue with a user's Motorola Q and Active Sync with Windows Mobile 6. They are syncing with my Microsoft Exchange server and they have several folder aside from the inbox that are set up to sync. They have mail rules set up so that some types of new mail go directly to the other folder and bypass the inbox totally. All of this updates fine, but when they get new mail in these other folders they are not notified of the new message. It's there, but they have to go look in each folder and check to see if anything is new. I'm wondering if there is some fix that any new message that shows up will notify the user. I would even be willing to update their phone to WM6.1 if that would fix it and I could find a MotoQ update rom.
Thanks for any help!
Ok, through all my research I seem to find that this is a limitation in ActiveSync and it can only notify the user of new email received in the in Inbox. My question now is, does anyone know of any additional software that will enable notification of new email received in folders other than the inbox?
Thanks!

Hello,
I have an issue with the way I use email that I've noticed in both WM5 and now WM6 (ie. no improvement!), and was wondering if anyone else has any ideas:
I use a server-side rule to move all incoming email that matches a certain filter into a separate folder (what this actually catches all emails sent to another email address which is in turn forwarded to my Exchange box), therefore I have my normal 'Inbox' another folder called 'Inbox 2'. This works very well for my needs, and indeed ActiveSync and DirectPush all work fine on my Windows Mobile device (have the 'Inbox 2' folder setup to sync).
The only problem is email notification on Windows Mobile. When I get a new email (using DirectPush) it gets pushed to my device and up pops the New Mail prompt. However, when I get a new email that automatically gets put in the 'Inbox 2' folder (server side) even though it gets pushed to my Windows Mobile device I do not get any notification. This means I find myself manually looking in this folder a few times a day to see if there are any updates.
Anyone else have a usage pattern similar? Any ideas on how to trigger a notification?
Cheers, Simon
I also use folders to categorize email, and as far as I've noticed, I do get the new email icon when a message goes into a filtered folder. What device/ROM are you using, as that may be one part of the problem/solution.

Hi - thanks for your reply!
Setup as follows:
HTC Touch, standard out-of-box ROM (WM6)
and i-Mate JAMin, standard ROM oem updated from HTC web site (WM5)
DirectPush email via Exchange 2003 Server
Server-side rule processing (ie. defined in Outlook 2007 but then stored and actioned on the server, thus rules work pre the emails hitting the client - part of the problem I think).
Any input you could offer greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Simon
After an exensive test of one (1) email, specifically created to trip my rules, it does appear that you don't get a notification. I'm now with the OP and would love it if someone knew of a reghack or modification to settings that would make these emails trigger a notification.
I'm on a HTC Wizard with mfrazz's Xda Release 3a and the same DirectPush enabled Exchange 2003 with serverside rules.
I think this is 'by design' (ie. you actually get exactly the same functionality in Outlook 2007 client on your desktop, however I've created a custom client-side rule to trigger a notification when emails are received to my filtered folders).
I too like you would ideally be looking for a reg hack (or similar) to extend the folder(s) which the built-in notification on Windows Mobile monitors.
<fingers crossed!>
Anyone know a solution for this? I do have the same issue.
Is there an app which tweaks the new email notifcation so that not only new emails in the inbox are recognized but also new emails in other folder of the Outlook account?
The reason for that requirement is that I have server site rules that move new emails into folders when/before they arrive and it would be great if I still could be notified when they arrived.
Moved as not software release.
But it's not a Q&A issue either because it's a fact that this is not possible and I was wondering if a developer out there was interested in building an app for this.
I have been looking for the same solution for years and have yet to find an answer.
I have settled by making some rules inactive (uncheck them) for any e-mail that I need to be notified about right away. All of those mails now go to the inbox. When I'm at my desktop client, I run the rules manually on the inbox. (You can run them all without re-checking them.) It's about three or four clicks or so.
Not a perfect solution, but the best I've been able to come up with.
Using a Focus (officially updated yesterday) and hosted exchange 2010. Push works for everything except when I delete an email on my phone. I have to hit the sync button in the mail app for the deleted messages to push out and delete from the exchange server. It's been like that since I got the phone in October. I thought the NoDo update might resolve it but it hasn't. Is this a bug in the software or an issue with my Exchange setup. Any ideas?
I've got the same issue. Anyone run across this? Could it be a setting on the exchange host end?
Moved to Q&A
Are you using push for exchange or something else like imap or pop?
Just confirmed on mine, deleted from outlook, 2 seconds later on my HTC surround with mango, it appears in my deleted.
Also are you archiving? (I'm not, just thinking of possible differences)
My office is also using Exchange 2010 SP1 with latest rollup on windows 2008R2 (Note: not hosted exchange). I am the IT for the building so i know the setup.
Also note windows phone uses conversation view. Make sure that the email is not further now the list. Do you get any? Also in the deleted folder, hit the ... make sure it's set to sync, hit settings, sync settings. Make sure download new content is set to as items arrive. I also have mine set to 1 month of email... not sure if that makes a difference but if the email was older it may.
this is a feature -- deleting from the device does not cause an immediate sync. When new mail arrives or some other event pushes changes from the server to the phone, the sync occurs and deleted messages will disappear from the server.
Just tested it on my Samsung Focus. The deleted email does push to the server after a push is generated by a seperate event. I'm not sure I'd call this a feature. I often delete email from the phone only to find them still showing in Outlook on my desktop. I've gotten in the habit of hitting the sync button every time I delete emails on the phone. Not very efficient.
Is this "feature" only on the Samsung Focus or on all Windows phones? Can it be changed via a setting somewhere?
Hello everyone,
I've experienced some problems with the built-in email app since the update..
Ive got it configured with 2 exchange accounts (private and corporate), and the problem is basically inbox sync.
If i, on my pc or webmail, mark as mail as read/unread, move it, delete it, whatever - it gets synced to the servers np, and to the Enhanced Email app(installed to test) - But the built-in from HTC does not see the updates, my inbox gets new mail, but the existing mails is not synced to other folders or marked/deleted.
Anyone else experienced this? And maybe got a fix?
Best Regards,
Yes, I have the same problem, when using an Exchange server and downloading email to a PC client using POP. New emails are downloaded OK to phone but when they are deleted via POP from the Exchange server this is not reflected on the phone.
This problem did not exist before the so called upgrade.
I also have the missing Power Off Button problem.
Hi all,
Been an Android/Note 10.1 user only for a week now. I am trying to get my note configured to get work emails from exchange server. I got it working by doing manual active sync configuration etc. Problem is my mail folders are showing incorrect number of read/unread mails. Say if I have 15 unread mails in a folder, it shows the same number even after opening 5-6 in that folder. I appears to be showing the total number of mails in that particular folder instead of showing the number of unread mails. Is there a way to fix it? I have "push" enabled for each of my sub folders. I looked through all the options, I could be missing something. can someone guide me how to get it working. I am an iOS user where I can configure all my mails in one tool and it works perfectly fine. I would like to set up my mail same way in Android if possible. If there is any app that could accomplish this, please let me know.
TIA
