Make your own sync/music dock, with your Galaxy S Box!! - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

Hey, was bored so i made this dock out of the samsung galaxy s box, have a go if your feeling creative
See attachments for finished product
GUIDE:
You need:
Knife/scissors (also a screwdriver (thin as possible) is helpfull)
Galaxy s box (and inserts)
Cocktail sticks x2 (dont need if you use a STRONG glue)
Optional:
Coins (to add weight)
tape/glue (if you want a little extra support, not needed though)
Heres a quick guide and some pics to help are in the attachments
!)Get the foam piece that the phone sits in when you first get it
2)Cut holes to allow cables to go through foam and plug into phone
3)Cut the foam side opposite the side that you cut the holes in to.
4)cut corner off the box which has the documentation in it.
5)Stick the bit of foam you cut off the box into the rim of the corner you cut of (the glue used to stick it to the original box should be sufficent so you dont need to add your own)
6)use cocktail sticks cut to make them shorter to attach the back bit you just made to the front.
7)Add coins inside back if you want more weight and stablility (use tape to secure)
8)Done!

This is really cool! I've been looking for a good dock so I can charge and have it plugged to speakers as well. Might make my own with the box too like you did. Very creative! Will need lots of time though. Thanks for posting this!

Excellent post. With a bit of tweaking you could also integrate speakers in there somewhere.

I'll buy 1

Lol i just need to find box my phone came in...

Excellent way to recycle the box

If you phone needs a claim within the warranty period then you've just destroyed the packaging it came in - same if you want to sell your phone on in the future...
I like to keep my boxes safe and pristine - even keep the cable ties and screen protection film...

Awesome idea man!

Nice dock, I probably won't attempt it myself in this iteration though as I don't want to butcher up my box.

Awesome
Really cool.
I Already ordered the phone, and this will be one of the first thing i'll do.
It's a great idea!

Doing something similar to mine. Is there any good dock aps for the vibrant?

Never mind. Found Car Home and Desk Home in the market from samsung
.

LOL
This post really made me laugh sooo hard. Thanks.
I won't be doing this, but very creative idea. You are a little Martha Stewert in the making.
Maybe I can add some tips. To make the cardboard box more sturdy and water proof. Get some clear polyurethane, add a coat of polyeurethane. It will make it more sturdy, thicker, and water proof.

For warranty claims don't they just send you the phone and you send yours back? I do see where it can make a difference in selling the phone though.

Brilliant! But I will try to replicate this with other boxes around the house..
I like to keep the boxes for added value in case I want to sell the phone (what I might think will not happen anytime soon
Thanks for the tip anyway

I think DeskHome only launches your Dock App (according to comments), which the Galaxy S does not have. So be careful before buying it, might be useless.

Should charge the phone at least? And it's not impossible to launch your own apps after connecting it... So saying "useless" is a bit of a stretch.

Huh? I was talking about the mentioned application "DeskHome". All it does is start the "docking station" mode of the phone, so it will probably not work with the Galaxy S. That would be a 1 $ waste....

Just download the dock app using My Market app. Set it to T-mobile.

Ingenious Car Mount

Hey everyone,
I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this product but I just found it on sale at Canadian Tire here in Canada and I'm very impressed. It's just so convenient.. I can't believe I haven't seen this before. I am amazed by it, honestly.
http://www.tetrax.com/us
Look at the XWAY and FIXWAY primarily. I purchased the XWAY at Canadian Tire for $30 (regular $50). A little expensive compared to what I am used to, but I am very happy with it so far.
The reasons I like this solution:
Works with any type of device
Sturdy and secure. Even holds me 5" GPS (though I prefer to use Google Navigation )
Allows for the keyboard to be open on most (if not all) qwerty phones
Allows for portrait and landscape rotation
Is not visible when device is on the mount
Is very small and unobtrusive when device is not on the mount
There are no clips or snaps to fiddle with, just slide off the device
You can use this with 4 devices out-of-the-box as it comes with 4 different sized magnetic pads for your devices
This does not introduce a magnetic field to yoru device (the magnet is broken into 4 and arranged intelligently)
The negative things I've discovered about this solution:
You need a magnetic pad on each device you want to use
The XWAY can be accidentally pulled off the vent if you yank the device straight off of mount instead of sliding it off
Depending on your car vents, the angle that the device is pointed might not be ideal
I will post pix tomorrow if anyone is interested! The site has quite a few to look at until then.
Here's some pix!
I don't have photos of it in the car quite yet. I'll try to get some tomorrow morning.
Today I found the FIXWAY at BestBuy and decided that I might like that better since it can be positioned in a better spot in my car. My cars vents are not ideal since the steering wheel covers part of the screen when mounted there. However, even so, the XWAY has been by far the best car mount I've ever seen or used. The FIXWAY should be even better (for my particular car).
I also discovered that the FIXWAY doesn't actually get fixed to the car itself as I thought, but instead it uses a square magnet which you fix to your car. It actually comes with 2 of these in case you want to use this in 2 cars. Like the metal button that you stick to the phone, the square metal that goes on the car has 3M adhesive on the back. It's super strong, works great.
Anyway here's some photos of both the XWAY and FIXWAY I took in my living room.
Very interesting. But, in my feeling, the lack is that we can't orientate the phone ...
I guess it depends how your car's dashboard is angled. Mine faces me just fine and the videos I've seen it seems like most work out fine
And for rotation, you can rotate it any which way before or after your phone is mounted.
I have had the xway for about 2 months now and I love it. If you are attaching it to the vents their is really no reason to have to angle the phone. I agree that if you have some weird vent configuration it may be an issue.

Wow I guess I didn't so the best job at reading through that thread! I even posted a link from there to here on page 11. Good pix though! Thanks
Here are some pix of the FIXWAY in the car without the phone on it (all I had to take the pix was the phone). One of these days I'll remember to bring out the camera..
Oh, and good news... It seems that you can actually angle/tilt the phone with the FIXWAY. It must be the shape of the magnet or something, and the fact that the 'X' is rubber, I am able to tilt it and it holds in place. Not a lot, but enough that I was able to cut down on some glare on the drive home
That's pretty cool, And I actually lik the blob on the back of the phone

For some years I use some velcro (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velcro). The soft side on my phone, lighter. The hard side on the dash.
Costs almost nothing. Works very well, except in the summer when it is very hot (than the glue gets sticky)

Thanks for the recommendation and all the pictures. Difficult to find a mount that doesn't interfere with the camera and/or volume buttons.

We can't charge and use kickstand at the same time.

So much for being able to watch things for extended periods of time. Why did they have to put the charger on the side with the kick stand out? Is this just to get us to buy the dock? And this is it for the threads I will start, I just thought that this was a horrible idea.
mods can you nuke this, there is already a discussion in another thread.
Maybe it's just my phone, but I can set the kickstand out the use the phone with the charger up.

Mine doesn't stay up like that. If I as much as blow on the phone when it's sitting like that, the kickstand folds up.
The charging port on the side is kind of silly. It's really annoying when typing on the phone while it's plugged in. When holding it in portrait mode, at least.
My kickstand isn't quite strong enough to support the weight of the phone in that position, especially with the power cord in... I guess if I drape the cord over something it kind of holds it up.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Hummmm. I may have to try that when I get back.
I saw the same issue regarding where the charge port was placed. My kick stand isn't strong enough either lol. Maybe we can wedge something there to keep it up.
I'm surprised yours isn't strong enough. Mine seems to be working pretty well. It collapsed the first time, but it does work. I just wish they would have thought this one through before placing the micro USB there. Or flipped the kickstand. My buddy has an evo and he uses his kickstand a bunch. IMO, one of the most innovative designs to come out of the mobile phone industry.

Put the kickstand out and and seat the phone STANDING UP like u would hold it in your hand to make a call, the cord will be on the bottom left side of the phone and it stands up that's what i've been doing. Hope that helps !
Yeah, but doing that makes it hard to watch in fullscreen. I would rather not do that unless I had no other choice. I think the upside down idea will work pretty well. It worked good a minute ago.
my kickstand doesn't support the phone the opposite way...it folds up before i fully let go of the phone.
Yeah that's weird because by kickstand holds my phone in portrait while charging just fine. The charging cable actually helps give it even more sturdiness because the cable kinda lays on the table acting like a brace to keep it from falling over that way.
Pretty strange design decision indeed. I encountered this at work today, trying to use the kickstand with the charger and I was like, umm, noope.
*shrug*
I bet they did it on purpose to coerce you to buy the desk dock. Lmao. And yes its annoying.

You do realize that the phone can stand vertically as well as horizontally, correct. The placement of the charger was by design.

I think you missed the point, the poster clearly was referencing wanting to watch media and such in landscape taking advantage of the full screen. This wouldn't work up-right, it has to be on its side.

Yeah, that worked for me yesterday, but it's not particularly stable (like for using as a nightstand clock)...bump the desk/table and it falls over.

Exactly, I'm surprised so many responses didn't pick up on that. Can't watch a movie properly in the current configuration unless you add some sort of block to the left side of the phone (while on landscape mode).
I'm not sure if this is the stupidest power plug location I've seen on a phone, but it's definitely in the top 3 (the Galaxy S phones with the plug on top are pretty stupid too, but at least they don't interfere with a kickstand designed to watch movies with).

Hey jlevy73...another Nexus S user switching away already? The Nexs S is such a sweet device, especially with CM7 on it, but it may still end up being the 2nd shortest lived phone in my ever increasing collection (the iPhone 4 getting all of a 2 week's usage before going into the backup phone pile).
The 4G/LTE of the TB along with the much better voice quality and coverage of VZW (compared to TMobile) were too tempting not to test drive the phone. I'm not sure it's a keeper for me, I'm much too much addicted to the SAMOLED displays, even though the TB has a very nice TFT one, it's not as satisfying. I'll probably keep both, and cancel my AT&T accounts. I only need 2 active phones, not 4, LOL.

Bionic Dock DOES work.

So despite posts on here suggesting that our phone wouldn't work with the Standard Dock for the Bionic, I decided to take the plunge and snag one anyways ($10.99 w/free shipping on Amazon here if you're Prime). I figured I could eat the cost if it wouldn't work, and I also ordered a small micro usb 'extension cord' at the same time, to see if that would help.
The dock arrived today and I popped the phone on the dock - it doesn't sit flush in the cradle (as to be expected, the port is shifted to the left), but it does connect, the phone recognizes it's connected (and offers various dock modes), and it charges the device (when plugged in, of course).
I still may try and disassemble the device and shift the plug over to make it fit flush, but it does work as is.
Just figured I'd share in case anyone else just wanted a simple dock/charging station wasn't up to spending the $80+ that the A2 specific HD dock goes for.

Will do once I find batteries for my 'real' camera. So used to using the phone as a camera these days.
But I can tell you it sticks up and out, and looks awkward as hell. So it's probably not going to be aesthetically pleasing to you.
That's what I was thinking.
Maybe I can take a dremel to it?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2
I have to apologize - I'm having a comedy of errors here when it comes to trying to get pictures (that aren't from the phone itself, at least). I can't find the main camera. I found an older camera but it's apparently dead (got a pretty purple grainy picture at my attempt). If I do happen to find that regular camera anytime soon, I'll snap some pictures.
In the meanwhile, I've linked to 2 pictures of the dock w/o the phone in it (taken by the phone, ofc) ... instead of sitting flush, the phone is over to the left about the length of my pinky. Please ignore my fat hands holding said dock.

So I took it apart (and probably destroyed it, but oh well) ... there's 2 rubber pads on the bottom, one on each side. Beneath each pad are two small phillips head screws. Pop those four out and the device should separate. I tried making my own hole next to where it comes by default (stretching the cabling, flipping the shield, etc), even marking the usb so that it was extended out far enough. No dice. Worked briefly as a dock again but I wasn't happy with how unsteady it was and fiddled with it more, and now it doesn't recognize it as dock.
If anyone else wants to hack at it and is willing to cover your own shipping costs, toss me a PM and I'll be happy to send in onward.

Easy - if it's a user-caused physical damage, most companies will refuse any returns and will only offer a repair . With the flap torn off or deformed to the point it can't close anymore, the company can NEVER be sure whether it was due to manufacturing defect OR because the user applied too much force when opening it, so for the company it's just safer to assume that it was a user-caused physical damage.

What can you do? Basically, 2 things. Either rip the flap off if you don't NEED waterproof feature and continue using the microUSB cable for charging OR put a new flap and use a different charging cable, not microUSB but the one with magnet which can attach to the side "port" with exposed "pins", this way you will NEVER have to open the flap for charging. Or! Or find a different phone which can be both waterproof AND has wireless charging, these do exist, Samsung makes one It will have plastic body but hey, if your phone is a work tool and NOT just a toy for impressing your simple-minded "friends" with - plastic body is actually the better choice

They can assume what they want. I'd expect a flap to last more than 4 weeks and, personally, I'd pursue it and see what they say rather than just assuming.
Well, the problem is, that I already exchanged the flap with a new one because the old one just came off after 3 days of usage. Even then they refused as it is a damage which they thought was caused by mishandling the phone. I really care bout my things and handle them correctly, especially if its such a fragile device like the Z3 is. The first thing I did when I got it is drive to the city and buy an Adore June Soft case and I have no scratches or anything until now(no screen protector but i am thinking of that). So it wasn't my fault that it came off once in my eyes. It's just that it seems that there is a "left over" from the old flap inside the phone which means the new one doesn't fit correctly, sometimes it does sometimes it does not.
What shall I do if they just refuse it..
This is really frustrating bought a new one and even a NEEDLE thin tweezer to dig the bit inside the phone out. No way to get it out or anything near by that. Tried to put the new one in and guess what? It got stuck a bit so I had to turn it around and it snapped off! Now I have two of those **** things in side there. What to do? Send it to Sony? How much does that cost..?
Dude, just send it to Sony before you make even more scratches around the flap area with your tools. Or find a local smartphone repair shop (which can fix all smartphone models), they should be able to properly attach it for much cheaper price than Sony might charge you.
And like I mentioned before - consider using a cable which attaches to side "port" with magnet (it's called "Magnector" or whatever), OR switch to a different phone model from different manufacturer which doesn't require removing any flaps for charging. Then wait for brain-dead Sony "engineers" to release a proper carrier-free model with built-in wireless charging (like they did for Verizon), hopefully all of Z4 models will have that...

[Guide] Fan replacements (requires soldering)

Edit: This fan from Digi-Key isn't the same fan as the stock one. I wouldn't advise buying it until bignazpwns confirms if his method works.
The fan in this phone is made of the softest type of plastic available. If you've messed with it at all you've probably broken it accidentally. Or, in my case you dropped the phone and the fan began clicking.
There are no results if you google "red magic 3 fan replacement", but luckily I've found the fan itself (not the fan housing) on Digi-Key for roughly $18.72 (remove the space): www .digikey.com/product-detail/en/delta-electronics/BSB01703HA3-00CAJ/603-2066-ND/7403223
A guide on how to take it out/put it in can be derived from this video (remove the space): www .youtube.com/watch?v=JiS24PRIq-A&t=268s

That fan won't work. It's a 4 wire pwm can in the RM3 that fan is a 3 wire.
I ordered one I broke my fan so I'm going to see if it has the -FP+ like the stock fan and just needs a wire or if I gotta transplant the board. Delta said it's a custom fan so I'll post what I get to get it back up and running.
Update. They offer no replacement fans what so ever and no help at all other then send it in for an extremely costly repair that will take over a month to complete.
I'll be making a guide this week about adapting the bsb01703ha3-00 as a replacement. There is no reason for them not to sell this fan or provide any info. 3 wire fan should work but will have no pwm control but I think there might be a solder point on it for the pwm lead. I'll post my findings as well as If I swap out the fans pcb with the OEM one. That should be the best way to do it and use the new fan as a donor housing and fan.
You will need to mod the housing tho since the blade is just held in by it's magnets and could move when dropped. This is why the OEM has that little bar over it. But I'll make a guide for everyone and save them a ton of money and time.
If you have a sla or dlp printer and you need a new housing here ya go.

Sorry I've been meaning to make an update. I had the same idea you had for the -FP+ thing, and was just going to try connecting everything judging from the labels on (remove space) www .delta-fan.com/Download/Spec/BSB01703HA3-00CAJ.pdf , and connect + to + and - to -, and try both remaining ones with the middle wire. Unfortunately my fan's cables were too short to do that.
What I wound up doing was taking the circuit board (with all 4 cables) and very carefully placing it in the housing of the new fan, replacing its board. I soldered everything back up and nothing. It wouldn't spin at all, even on boot. So as far as I know this isn't a viable method, pending bignazpwns' response. I've already updated the OP to reflect. Big ups to bignazpwns for going the extra mile with the replacements

Note.
Replacement fan is much louder due to the fact 100% is a bit more RPM. Just replaced the fan with one with a replacement blade assembly, coils off the aftermarket fan all on the stock pcb. This gets the auto speed control back and makes preform like stock. 100% is a little bit less in terms of RPM but much more quiet.
Just note swapping coils is not easy.
You will need to remove 1/2 a coil so you can get to the other solder pad. Red Magic fan used SMT coils and the replacement is soldered by hand. You will also need to apply light heat to remove them. They are stuck down with adhesive. I used a hot air reflow station but you really need to watch the heat because you can cause it to uncoil. Scale from 1-10 for soldering skill this is a 10.
The replacement fan drops right in and offeresore rpm to move more air at 100% just connect the 3 wires and be done with it. I'm always here to give advice and help of you need to do this. Also for adhesive I use this. AJ Sign World Best 1" Ultra-Thin... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBJVU04?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share it's thin and super strong. If you work on phones I highly recommend you get a roll.

NP. I destroyed mine with 100psi of air lol. No big deal easy fix and it's only hard if you make it. I'll probably swap the replacement fan back in for the higher rpm and more air flow. On and off control is good enough for me.
What happened with all of these info removed ? My fan started to make weird noises and i start investigating on its replacement... The most disappointing fact is i barely used the fan and the phone has around 6 month :|
So what happened with the info ?

No I removed the info. People need to realize no on won here owes people anything. But for some reason they think they do. So all info was removed. People can figure out what needs to be done on there own.
