Hey everyone,
I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this product but I just found it on sale at Canadian Tire here in Canada and I'm very impressed. It's just so convenient.. I can't believe I haven't seen this before. I am amazed by it, honestly.
http://www.tetrax.com/us
Look at the XWAY and FIXWAY primarily. I purchased the XWAY at Canadian Tire for $30 (regular $50). A little expensive compared to what I am used to, but I am very happy with it so far.
The reasons I like this solution:
Works with any type of device
Sturdy and secure. Even holds me 5" GPS (though I prefer to use Google Navigation )
Allows for the keyboard to be open on most (if not all) qwerty phones
Allows for portrait and landscape rotation
Is not visible when device is on the mount
Is very small and unobtrusive when device is not on the mount
There are no clips or snaps to fiddle with, just slide off the device
You can use this with 4 devices out-of-the-box as it comes with 4 different sized magnetic pads for your devices
This does not introduce a magnetic field to yoru device (the magnet is broken into 4 and arranged intelligently)
The negative things I've discovered about this solution:
You need a magnetic pad on each device you want to use
The XWAY can be accidentally pulled off the vent if you yank the device straight off of mount instead of sliding it off
Depending on your car vents, the angle that the device is pointed might not be ideal
I will post pix tomorrow if anyone is interested! The site has quite a few to look at until then.
Here's some pix!
I don't have photos of it in the car quite yet. I'll try to get some tomorrow morning.
Today I found the FIXWAY at BestBuy and decided that I might like that better since it can be positioned in a better spot in my car. My cars vents are not ideal since the steering wheel covers part of the screen when mounted there. However, even so, the XWAY has been by far the best car mount I've ever seen or used. The FIXWAY should be even better (for my particular car).
I also discovered that the FIXWAY doesn't actually get fixed to the car itself as I thought, but instead it uses a square magnet which you fix to your car. It actually comes with 2 of these in case you want to use this in 2 cars. Like the metal button that you stick to the phone, the square metal that goes on the car has 3M adhesive on the back. It's super strong, works great.
Anyway here's some photos of both the XWAY and FIXWAY I took in my living room.
Very interesting. But, in my feeling, the lack is that we can't orientate the phone ...
I guess it depends how your car's dashboard is angled. Mine faces me just fine and the videos I've seen it seems like most work out fine
And for rotation, you can rotate it any which way before or after your phone is mounted.
I have had the xway for about 2 months now and I love it. If you are attaching it to the vents their is really no reason to have to angle the phone. I agree that if you have some weird vent configuration it may be an issue.

Wow I guess I didn't so the best job at reading through that thread! I even posted a link from there to here on page 11. Good pix though! Thanks
Here are some pix of the FIXWAY in the car without the phone on it (all I had to take the pix was the phone). One of these days I'll remember to bring out the camera..
Oh, and good news... It seems that you can actually angle/tilt the phone with the FIXWAY. It must be the shape of the magnet or something, and the fact that the 'X' is rubber, I am able to tilt it and it holds in place. Not a lot, but enough that I was able to cut down on some glare on the drive home
That's pretty cool, And I actually lik the blob on the back of the phone
Seconded Mac, but I would have to take my soft shell off...........................

It should stick to any shell/case just fine I would think?
For some years I use some velcro (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velcro). The soft side on my phone, lighter. The hard side on the dash.
Costs almost nothing. Works very well, except in the summer when it is very hot (than the glue gets sticky)

FINALLY took some photos.
I am still very much in love with this thing. My whole family has'em now, which is awesome because whenever I drive any of their cars I'm set
Is it weird that it reminds me of a tie fighter?
Thanks for the recommendation and all the pictures. Difficult to find a mount that doesn't interfere with the camera and/or volume buttons.

Just ordered me one of those.
I hate universal holders and I hate passive holders. This seems like the best choice right now, since the official merchandise is still not in sight...

I have one. It works super. You'll be really happy with it.
Google is missing the boat huge on this car dock.
That's good to hear, MadFlava. I had one of those for my previous phone (Touch Diamond) and that one has served me perfectly too.
Installed mine yesterday. I love it. The cords are ugly but I'll work on that when I get a chance.
Yup, I have one and would recommend them too
Well, received mine today, and... my Nexus One does not fit??? It will not slide far enough over the micro-usb connection.... any of you guys experienced anything like this?
It does not charge now... and there's like 2mm of space left between the bottom of my Nexus One and the holder.. I've used force to some extent, but it just will not slide any further..

I'm new here so I can't post links but go to androidforums.com and search for the thread ProClip Mounting System. In there you'll find a guy (dbpaddler) that has a lot of knowledge about these mounts. He's a re-seller for Brodit I think. Tell him about your problem and maybe he can help.

Sounds very odd. Can you post us a few pictures of what's going on?
See attachment. The micro-usb connector in the holder is about 4.5mm high, but my Nexus One will only slide over it like for 2mm and then it feels like it is blocked by something. I've used force, but no movement whatsoever.
I find it strange too.. I don't see anything odd on the connector, nor on the female connector on my Nexus One. I guess I'll take it back to the store...
How odd. It looks like the connector is slightly left of centre, if you use the trackball to be centre... no jiggling will make it fit?
It may look a bit off-centre due to my photography skills, it looks okay in real life. Jiggling or forcing does not help unfortunately. Of course the connector that came with my Nexus One charger fits nicely, and I don't see any peculiarities when I compare it to the one on the Brodit.
Anyhow, I logged an issue with the webshop that I bought it from and they happen to have a brick-and-mortar store some 50km from here, so I may drop by to demonstrate my problem. Thanks for your help.
Do you have a body skin on the phone?
Nope, no skin. Going to the store later today to have the holder replaced, they think it may just be a faulty unit. Will keep you all posted.
Well, guess what.... just returned from the store, and the replacement holder that they offered had exactly the same problem. The sales guy was as astonished as I was. Personally he had not sold any of these, since the Nexus One is officially not available yet here in the Netherlands, so demand is minimal, but it makes me wonder if I'm really the only one with this problem, and whether my specific Nexus One could be the problem...
Anyway, he took mine back and I was fully refunded, so kudos for pdashop.nl.
Downside: still no carmount for me.
I have one too, it does fit but, I had to wiggle it a little bit to get it in......
It was not just straight forward. I will have a go tonight and see if it still play hard to get.
anyway once plugged, it worked fine for me.
We (both me and the sales guy in the store) used force and wiggled, but to no avail. Besides, I don't want a holder that needs wiggling in the first place. I want it to fit perfectly. That's why I do not buy a universal holder but a Nexus-specific one.
I got mine and it fits perfect.

Yeah update, just tried and fitted like a glove. must have loosen up
does the charger model charge the phone at 500ma or 1000ma? can someone with one check the settings and see if it says charging usb or ac?
The Site is not in english. how do you guys understand what information to fill out when ordering? also can you guys please post some pics? with the dock already in place? just wondering what its going to look like in my car.
The headphone and power jack being on the bottom.
Makes just plopping it into a cup holder or similar space not nearly as nice for prolonged, propped up viewing of the phone.
I wish there was some way to do a 180 flip of the screen, so that it's "upside down" when the phone is also in this position.
Anyway, just had to complain. Otherwise I love this phone!

The funny thing is...it's one of the reasons I chose this phone over the Atrix. I use a windshield mount and hated that my iphone headphone cord would obstruct the view of the screen. I liked that the Inspire has a bottom port!

Is the mount you have still available? Mind linking me to it?
It also works well for carrying in your pocket. Think about it, when you reach into your pocket to pull the phone out, you'll want to grab from the bottom to the top of the phone so that when your hand comes out with the phone, the phone is already oriented for viewing (you don't have to rotate the phone 180 degrees). The way the phone is set up, you can have the cord for headphones straight down into phone and pull the phone out ready for viewing (if you want to check and email or what not). Granted, it's a bit backwards if you want to carry your phone in your car's cup holder.
So much for being able to watch things for extended periods of time. Why did they have to put the charger on the side with the kick stand out? Is this just to get us to buy the dock? And this is it for the threads I will start, I just thought that this was a horrible idea.
mods can you nuke this, there is already a discussion in another thread.
Maybe it's just my phone, but I can set the kickstand out the use the phone with the charger up.

Mine doesn't stay up like that. If I as much as blow on the phone when it's sitting like that, the kickstand folds up.
The charging port on the side is kind of silly. It's really annoying when typing on the phone while it's plugged in. When holding it in portrait mode, at least.
My kickstand isn't quite strong enough to support the weight of the phone in that position, especially with the power cord in... I guess if I drape the cord over something it kind of holds it up.

Hummmm. I may have to try that when I get back.
I saw the same issue regarding where the charge port was placed. My kick stand isn't strong enough either lol. Maybe we can wedge something there to keep it up.
I'm surprised yours isn't strong enough. Mine seems to be working pretty well. It collapsed the first time, but it does work. I just wish they would have thought this one through before placing the micro USB there. Or flipped the kickstand. My buddy has an evo and he uses his kickstand a bunch. IMO, one of the most innovative designs to come out of the mobile phone industry.

Put the kickstand out and and seat the phone STANDING UP like u would hold it in your hand to make a call, the cord will be on the bottom left side of the phone and it stands up that's what i've been doing. Hope that helps !
Yeah, but doing that makes it hard to watch in fullscreen. I would rather not do that unless I had no other choice. I think the upside down idea will work pretty well. It worked good a minute ago.
my kickstand doesn't support the phone the opposite way...it folds up before i fully let go of the phone.
Yeah that's weird because by kickstand holds my phone in portrait while charging just fine. The charging cable actually helps give it even more sturdiness because the cable kinda lays on the table acting like a brace to keep it from falling over that way.
Pretty strange design decision indeed. I encountered this at work today, trying to use the kickstand with the charger and I was like, umm, noope.
*shrug*
I bet they did it on purpose to coerce you to buy the desk dock. Lmao. And yes its annoying.

this design is so dumb
would something like a right angle mini usb plug work? I can't post links, but a quick google turned up a bunch of GPS power adapters...
wow thats so dumb
You do realize that the phone can stand vertically as well as horizontally, correct. The placement of the charger was by design.

I think you missed the point, the poster clearly was referencing wanting to watch media and such in landscape taking advantage of the full screen. This wouldn't work up-right, it has to be on its side.

Yeah, that worked for me yesterday, but it's not particularly stable (like for using as a nightstand clock)...bump the desk/table and it falls over.

Exactly, I'm surprised so many responses didn't pick up on that. Can't watch a movie properly in the current configuration unless you add some sort of block to the left side of the phone (while on landscape mode).
I'm not sure if this is the stupidest power plug location I've seen on a phone, but it's definitely in the top 3 (the Galaxy S phones with the plug on top are pretty stupid too, but at least they don't interfere with a kickstand designed to watch movies with).

Hey jlevy73...another Nexus S user switching away already? The Nexs S is such a sweet device, especially with CM7 on it, but it may still end up being the 2nd shortest lived phone in my ever increasing collection (the iPhone 4 getting all of a 2 week's usage before going into the backup phone pile).
The 4G/LTE of the TB along with the much better voice quality and coverage of VZW (compared to TMobile) were too tempting not to test drive the phone. I'm not sure it's a keeper for me, I'm much too much addicted to the SAMOLED displays, even though the TB has a very nice TFT one, it's not as satisfying. I'll probably keep both, and cancel my AT&T accounts. I only need 2 active phones, not 4, LOL.
I cycle to and from work every day, I always had my Desire mounted to my handlebars using this mount
does anyone know of any for the Optimus 3D?
I don't trust the universal ones, I'm after one that is specific to this phone so I know it will hold it tight, preferable so I can film my commute too (like I did on the Desire)
Anyone seen anything?
I've ordered on from eBay for £8 delivered (from Hong Kong). It's made specifically for the phone, I'll report back once it's arrived and I've tried it
truly awful!
the mount doesn't fit any handlebars I've seen and the bit the phone goes in is too small, certainly not made specifically for the phone!
Tweak it
I haven't tried this on O3D but have successfully used bike mounts on Optimus P500 and Motorola Defy (really good to use for both navigation and sports apps).
I did purchase one of those universal bike mounts, and it was TERRIBLE. So instead I got a hold of an original LG car mount. The piece itself which holds the phone snaps off from from the rest of the mount.
From the universal mount I pretty much just cut off anything but the piece which mounts the handle bar. I then melted the the plastic from both the original "snap on" piece and the universal mount, pressed them together, and then separated them. They now had a good fit, so I super glued the pieces together and man! the result is beyond what I could've hoped for.
It's very durable, doesn't take up a ton of space (unlike the universal monsters of mounts).
When I "melted" the pieces together I ensured to also include the slide on mechanism to release the mount. Therefore I can now get the O3D original car holder and just snap it on to my bike.
In order to do this, you will have to take a risk... but it was clearly worth it for me. I've used it a lot, both off road and on road.
I'll send a pic of it if you want.
I'd really like to see one or two pictures of your custom made mount.
I'm in need of a sturdy solution as well.
Will attempt taking some pics tomorrow, but only if the weather permits Quite stormy around London at this time.

Pictures..
Here they are.
So, I was too lazy to put the P920 holder, so the P500 displayed in the pictures. It's the same type of clip attachment as the original P920 adapter... very easy to attach any LG device, as long as you have an original car mount.
Displayed on picture 2, is the assembly of a universal bike mount, cut into pieces and then a glued/melted original LG lock plate. So that any original LG car mount holder can be attached.
I've mostly used the P500 adapter with my old phone, and I've been going hard off road with my phone never coming off! It just works. The universal adapter I originally purchased was terrible keeping the phone steady.
The key to getting the mount secure was to get a tight fit, having the phone as close to the bar as possible. I was a little scared of sacrificing an original car mount, but it really paid off!
For those of us not so much into the diy thing (or for those like me who would end up paying almost as high as that buying the original lg car mount.. ) :

Hi all,
I've just installed a 12v on my bike, now i want to mount my sensation on with a Holder, prefer waterproof? Does anyone have any suggestions, experience with one?
Hope you guys can help.

I don't have a phone mount on my bike, but I do use RAM mount for my camera. Check out the RAM web site, I'm fairly sure I've seen some waterproof holders on there.

Mount for bikes with separate bars: (I'm using this on my moutain bike and a motorcycle with a homemade mount for the steering stem)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...29Q_2?ie=UTF8&m=A1JCK2KMJMH29Q&n=&s=&v=glance
Finally, a ball joint mount that goes in the steering stem for bikes with clipons: (note that there are three different sizes available dependent upon the size of your steering stem (oooer), so order the right one for your bike ; )
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...29Q_4?ie=UTF8&m=A1JCK2KMJMH29Q&n=&s=&v=glance
The case in all of these appears to be the same. I can confirm that you can use the screen while it's in the case, but at the same time the case doesn't cause any accidental screen presses when it touches the screen on its own. The case will NOT be waterproof, but it will be splash/very light shower proof. If you have a screen I'd make sure it's mounted to a portion of the bars behind that. Rain at 70mph gets into pretty much everything as most bikers know if they ride all year round (boo ; ). The front of the case reduces legibility of the screen a bit, but so far in my use it's not been a problem as the sun is not due to re-appear here in the UK until June 23rd at approx 15:15, and then only for about ten minutes (My Scottish buddies will only get about five minutes sun, and my Welsh ancestors...who knows)
I'll have to ask "why"
I ride a sport bike and the phone stays in my jacket pocket, paired to a Jabra BT3030 bluetooth receiver.
Attached headset sends audio, navigation, and has ability to receive phone calls.
No risk of water or the phone accidentally falling off, and no clutter on the bike either.
I've got this one on my z1000
soeasyrider v4
It's perfect for the smartphone, the touch screen work across the protection, and there is a special place under the phone for an external battery.
When you park the bike, you only take with you the protection witch is scratch on the support. And all is waterproof, I ride 580Km with heavy rain, my sensation arrived dry, not like me
Now they make a smaller support for shorter trip.
Sorry for my english..

I've been using an Arkon mount and case since the light on my speedo went out. I leave work when it's dark, so it's impossible to see how fast I'm going on the freeway unless I use a speedo app (I use Speedview).
It's also cool for navigation; I've recently been apartment hunting, so I just put in the address of the apartment I'm going to check out and don't have to worry about finding it, in most cases. I like seeing the map in nav mode, since I scope out the area before on Google Maps and when I'm near I can recognize the area.
The case in the link has a cable slot, so you can charge your phone if you have a 12V adapter set up.
I ride a Suzuki GS500.

It's nice to be able to see my GPS app as well as hear "Jane's" instructions at times. Probably not as important in the US, but over here in the UK with our chaotic old road network with millions of side turnings very close together and thousands of traffic circles, audio only can get very confusing ; )
Also, a few years ago I met a guy on a track day who was just getting back on a bike after a whole year of re-hab. He had fallen off with a phone in his chest pocket, flipped onto his front and it pushed THROUGH his ribs (shattering them) and doing a whole load of damage to his left lung etc. If you can avoid carrying anything hard on you at all while riding it really makes a lot of sense. Back packs are pretty lethal too if they have anything hard in them or the straps catch on something as you slide and tug your sholder down....I nearly lost the use of my left arm this way about seven years ago. I lug a crappy tank bag around with me eveywhere now which bores the heck out of me and gets in the way when I want to hang off in corners, but I figure it's better than the alternative. Sorry to sound like an old fart : )

Lol, nothing worse than getting wet underpants.....or having to pour water out your boots... ; ) Why do we do it?
tough break with the track accident. typically, track riding is pretty barebones - you could still put the phone in the tail and pair it up.
voice prompts speak the road names, so even with chaotic roads, that should cover it.
lol - that akron bike mount wont work with clip ons - I ride a GSXR750
either way, whatever works for you. I've gone thru many iterations and found that the external BT with a headset is most effective for me.
good luck
