Make your own sync/music dock, with your Galaxy S Box!!

Hey, was bored so i made this dock out of the samsung galaxy s box, have a go if your feeling creative
See attachments for finished product
GUIDE:
You need:
Knife/scissors (also a screwdriver (thin as possible) is helpfull)
Galaxy s box (and inserts)
Cocktail sticks x2 (dont need if you use a STRONG glue)
Optional:
Coins (to add weight)
tape/glue (if you want a little extra support, not needed though)
Heres a quick guide and some pics to help are in the attachments
!)Get the foam piece that the phone sits in when you first get it
2)Cut holes to allow cables to go through foam and plug into phone
3)Cut the foam side opposite the side that you cut the holes in to.
4)cut corner off the box which has the documentation in it.
5)Stick the bit of foam you cut off the box into the rim of the corner you cut of (the glue used to stick it to the original box should be sufficent so you dont need to add your own)
6)use cocktail sticks cut to make them shorter to attach the back bit you just made to the front.
7)Add coins inside back if you want more weight and stablility (use tape to secure)
8)Done!

This is really cool! I've been looking for a good dock so I can charge and have it plugged to speakers as well. Might make my own with the box too like you did. Very creative! Will need lots of time though. Thanks for posting this!

Excellent post. With a bit of tweaking you could also integrate speakers in there somewhere.

If you phone needs a claim within the warranty period then you've just destroyed the packaging it came in - same if you want to sell your phone on in the future...
I like to keep my boxes safe and pristine - even keep the cable ties and screen protection film...

I won't be doing this, but very creative idea. You are a little Martha Stewert in the making.
Maybe I can add some tips. To make the cardboard box more sturdy and water proof. Get some clear polyurethane, add a coat of polyeurethane. It will make it more sturdy, thicker, and water proof.

For warranty claims don't they just send you the phone and you send yours back? I do see where it can make a difference in selling the phone though.

Brilliant! But I will try to replicate this with other boxes around the house..

I think DeskHome only launches your Dock App (according to comments), which the Galaxy S does not have. So be careful before buying it, might be useless.

Should charge the phone at least? And it's not impossible to launch your own apps after connecting it... So saying "useless" is a bit of a stretch.

Huh? I was talking about the mentioned application "DeskHome". All it does is start the "docking station" mode of the phone, so it will probably not work with the Galaxy S. That would be a 1 $ waste....

Just download the dock app using My Market app. Set it to T-mobile.

internal gps antenna (micro-coax?) connector

Hi
I recently dropped my desire onto concrete and, while it landed on the side and thankfully wasn't too damaged the side housing was slightly split and was sharp, so I ebay'd a replacement casing (only £2.99) and went about fitting it.
All went well except when I popped the micro-coax cable for the gps antenna (by sticking my fingernail under the jack, as I have done many times on other similar connectors) it simply flew off, leaving the cable flapping. For what it's worth, I can't believe (given the amount of force I used) that it can have been connected fully in the first place, but of course I can't prove that now...
I'm pretty sure I can't solder that back together, firstly I don't think I have the skill or the kit (I can solder but this looks pretty intricate) and secondly I'm unsure there's enough spare cable left to solder it.
So now I'm looking for another cable and I simply can't find anyone selling them; further I can't even find any detail on the type of connector so I can search for a generic cable that might fit.
Any info would be much appreciated!

My device had other errors,so I didn't try it after all,bought a used Desire.
Anyway,I think this connector is called U.FL or IPX,commonly used in miniPCI(e) laptop wifi cards,routers,etc.It can't be soldered as it's not soldered originally.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the item they ship is completely wrong - the cable's too long and the coax connectors are too large.
Think I'm going to have to resort to looking for a faulty phone on ebay.

I ended up with a Hirose 10cm W.FL cable from RS - they don't stock the Hirose 70mm version which would have been better, the only people who seem prepared to sell that is mouser and they wanted about 20UKP including delivery.
The RS cable works but I had to bend it around stuff to use up the extra cable and the signal quality doesn't seem 100% at first impression (I'll do some side-by-side testing later with my wife's Desire - I did the repair this morning first thing before I left for work!) - I'm hoping it will be Good Enough though (I'm getting 6 or 7 sats, so it should be usable).

There's a guy on ebay selling a 38mm W.FL cable and when I asked he said he could supply a 65mm version (should be about perfect) for $4.50 delivered, so for anyone still looking for one that's probably the best option (I'd already ordered the RS one by then though)

For anyone considering it, the 10cm cable was perfectly adequate - I drove into work with the Desire navigating and it all went perfectly. Sat next to another Desire GPS Status shows very similar output, certainly nothing noticeably worse.

PHOTON Q extended battery MOD

Ok heres the deal
This is not a HOW to but More of its, Possible and How i did it, My Mod is very raw, and ugly, but it is sturdy and Functional so I felt it was worth Posting
Materials Used
I had several things Lying around that aided this Mod Greatly First was a Dead droid razer Maxx someone gave me that did some time swimming when he fell off his boat
So I used the Eb40 3200 Miiliamp battery as the base for this Mod
I pillaged the Following from the razor Max board
the Power Connection
i used baking soda and super Glue to secure it into place into a hole I cut into the Photons Back cover after securing the new power connection I wired the new battery to the photon Q board, on this part I soldered the Data wires very gently using the Hard won skills I earned while doing the sim card mod on the same phone, this connections are done very lightly with very thin wiring, leaving it reverseable if i so chose todo so..
the EB41 battery and the eb40 battery have mirror image connections to each other so when wiring up the eb40, remember to arrange them in the correct order, which is Opposite the eb41
now i built a harness for the eb40 battery using a cheep 3 dollar rubber coated case off amazon using the same baking soda and super glue trick to build the pocket to hold the battery, then doing a wee bit of finishing using JB weld
Im not sure how to attach photos here but will give this a shot, enjoy and I wish you Luck if u wish to attempt this yourselves using what I have Pioneered

how so? hopefully not something i missed the orginal eb 41 is gone are u speaking of a resistance issue with the new wiring? i guess im a bit confused how does any other phone accept an extended battery if not in this fashion?
the mod basically just provides an external jack on the back of the phone to accept the eb40 the unit has been charging fine
but if there is potential for damage please elaborate

also a reminder that bbig ugly thing is a modified protective case backing to hold the its not part of the phone

havent much to post about on the cosmetic end of things, but id like to report that still going strong with an average battery life of 2 days between charges or 4- 5 hours of straight ingress play if the mood requires, so id say the mod is an overall success inspite of its socks in sandles cosmetic apperance so i will choose the much extended functionality over the poor cosmetic appearance, but each day this phone sees very hard use as it bascially functions as my first line of use for all my work invoicing and parts researching I do 8 -12 hour days of appliance repair work, and a charge usually lasts an entire day now vs the dead in 3 hours the previous battery offered me, so after all this elapsed time, i can say to anyone else wishing to try this, mine has been a total success, and when i get around to making it pretty ill post pics

I applaud any mod. But in this case I am wonderig why you didn't order one of those USB powerbanks on Ebay for $ 10,- and replaced the 18650 internal battery with let's say a decent Panasonic 3600mAh? That's what I did. It can fully charge a Photon Q and is about the size of an oldskool bubble gum pack

I got screwed buying a 2nd hand phone. I need your guys help to fix it

So someone on a facebook group was selling a Galaxy S6 because it wouldnt turn on. He said it worked 1 moment and then suddenly it wouldnt charge or turn on. I figured it was just a software issue and that it might be an easy fix so I bought it for $40. I get home and no sooner than I take it out the back falls right off like the adhesive wasnt holding and the casing over the motherboard easily came off. I look at it closely and realize the battery isnt the original and someone had tampered with it to the point one of the red wires was not connected to anything and it looks like another wire is missing. Here are some pictures and im hoping some tech savy individual can help point me in the right direction on fixing this as I was hoping to surprise my wife with it since her phone is about 5 years old and showing age.

Mine certainly does not have Galaxy S6 on the back... though it is black.

Oops I was wrong but never saw an S6 with s6 name on it.

That phone is absolutely 100% not a Galaxy S6. Fake 100%.

It even says on the back that it was "MADE IN KOREAN BY SAMSUNG". Last time I checked, it was called Korea.

To jump in this one i got one simialr situation wouldnt work. I disaambled cleaned all contacts on flex cables. It works now but i did bust my back and i now have a cheap aftermarket back didnt look at ure pics yet im at work. These phones are highly susecptable to any kind of moisture damage. U might try cleanin the flexes. Ive help a few cases and this has worked just because knock off back dont mean nothin. Ill further this later on.

Wow i do believe this is a total knockoff. Ill post of pics of the inside here in a few completly diffrent. The battery is supposed to have a flex cable no wires. And theres loads of writing on the motherboard thats not on official samsung board. Plus it look like theres a 3 or 4 wire black plug sticking of the board. Man i hate it for you but ure probly wasting your time.
I need a cleaner pic of the mb. I do small electronics repair and might be able to help just cant see slear enough

Can't believe this is debatable... the phone is a total knock off. Sorry to hear it man what a bummer.
The motherboard in the S6 is blue (not green), the big Galaxy S6 text on the back is in wrong font, but you can get an S6 with that text on the back (certain regions), but that is as fake as they come. I mean look at the camera, its tiny! Google S6 teardown, you will see the difference. There is also no Wireless Charging contacts.
Sorry to deal the bad news mate, sucks there are people out there like this
On the bright side, it was only $40! People have been scammed for retail prices for this. I wouldn't bother fixing it either, the fake will be awful to use, worse than many low, low end phones.

Has anyone succesfully replaced the Nexus 6P battery?

I am looking to replace my battery on my Nexus 6P, I've abused it in the form of basically charging it all the time, all 8 hours at work, it sat on the charger all day, since I use it heavily. I now know the erro of my ways and I want to repalce the battery.
I've watched videos on how to do it, I know it's not easy, but it is possible. Has anyone here changed it, also where did you get the battery, I've found them anywhere form $10 to $50, I ahve no problem paying more if I know it's an OEM battery.

I have dissassembled my phone to replace random components after falling on it. its not that hard to get apart in my opinion, and its super simple to replace the battery if you can source the battery

Right! The teardown video I saw made it look not that bad, and I toar apart my Galaxy Nexus to replace the USB port on it back in the fday, and that was actually fun, granted it had a removable back with easier access to screws, but still.

I have been eyeing the oneplu3 and oogling over the supposed specs on the oneplus4, so I'll probably go there as soon as it's released, but my battery is bad, I get 2 hour SOT if I'm lucky, this phone used to give me 4+ easy.

If you have to open up.
Buy extra camera glass pieces. Thats literally the only thing that normally goes wrong if you dont have a real heat gun. Dont thing hair dryers will do the trick unless your extremely patient. I plan on replacing the housing soon.

Gotcha...yeah I'm unfortunately stuck w/ Verizon which severely limits my unlocked options lol, but I'd seriously consider the one+ series if I could!

You just made me sad, I hadn't really looke dinto the oneplus all that much and dind't realize VZW data didn't work. I'm on an unlimited VZW plan, crap.
Hopefully the oneplus 4 has the ZVW radios. Now I really need to change this battery.

Haha yeeeeaaah all that GSM crap and all their "nice" phones Good luck if ya try man, you're more adventurous than I!

I've successfully done an internal component swap. Swapped the motherboard and battery from a very beat up N6P into one that was in excellent condition but was basically a paperweight.
The most difficult thing about this project was not getting into the phone, but getting into the phone without leaving any noticeable scratches. Removing the camera glass and the plastic strip at the bottom took at least half an hour of heating and gentle prying. Getting the screen out without a suction cup tool was a bit tricky too, i had to wedge in a chisel x-acto blade and pry it up, lucky no damage was done.
My advice would be to have on hand as many of the tools suggested in the youtube videos and to be patient while do it.

Thinking about doing mine

I've never taken mine apart but if I plan on replacing my battery I will buy the replacement glass piece and bottom plastic piece at the same time. Those are the only pieces that can get damaged in the process.

I just watched that video. from the looks of it, so long as you take your time. and have that suction cup tool, it should be fairly straight forward. at least you are not having to separate the screen itself from the guts to get inside.

Looks like my battery is on its way as well.
Anyone sourced genuine replacement yet?

Why?

I understand the 2 out of 10 rating on iFixit after replacing the back cover on my phone. 90% of the pain is getting to the 6 screws. I don't think it is possible without scratching up the old cover. Funny thing is that I just wanted to change it from silver to black. A heat gun is a definite requirement. Not for the faint at heart for sure.
