Hi
I recently dropped my desire onto concrete and, while it landed on the side and thankfully wasn't too damaged the side housing was slightly split and was sharp, so I ebay'd a replacement casing (only £2.99) and went about fitting it.
All went well except when I popped the micro-coax cable for the gps antenna (by sticking my fingernail under the jack, as I have done many times on other similar connectors) it simply flew off, leaving the cable flapping. For what it's worth, I can't believe (given the amount of force I used) that it can have been connected fully in the first place, but of course I can't prove that now...
I'm pretty sure I can't solder that back together, firstly I don't think I have the skill or the kit (I can solder but this looks pretty intricate) and secondly I'm unsure there's enough spare cable left to solder it.
So now I'm looking for another cable and I simply can't find anyone selling them; further I can't even find any detail on the type of connector so I can search for a generic cable that might fit.
Any info would be much appreciated!
Geoff
Hi
Last year i made the same mistake and I found the following:
http://www.htcrepairparts.com/antenna-cable-replacement-for-htc-desire-bravo-a8181-a8182-a8183-g7-p-3759.html?language=en
My device had other errors,so I didn't try it after all, bought a used Desire.
Anyway,I think this connector is called U.FL or IPX,commonly used in miniPCI(e) laptop wifi cards, routers, etc. It can't be soldered as it's not soldered originally.
Info.
I hope this info could help.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the item they ship is completely wrong - the cable's too long and the coax connectors are too large.
Think I'm going to have to resort to looking for a faulty phone on ebay.
Thanks anyway.
Geoff
Edit: for what it's worth it looks like the cable is W.FL, not U.FL - basically the same but smaller.

I ended up with a Hirose 10cm W.FL cable from RS - they don't stock the Hirose 70mm version which would have been better, the only people who seem prepared to sell that is mouser and they wanted about 20UKP including delivery.
The RS cable works but I had to bend it around stuff to use up the extra cable and the signal quality doesn't seem 100% at first impression (I'll do some side-by-side testing later with my wife's Desire - I did the repair this morning first thing before I left for work!) - I'm hoping it will be Good Enough though (I'm getting 6 or 7 sats, so it should be usable).
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/connector-rf/6196387/
There's a guy on ebay selling a 38mm W.FL cable and when I asked he said he could supply a 65mm version (should be about perfect) for $4.50 delivered, so for anyone still looking for one that's probably the best option (I'd already ordered the RS one by then though)
Contact him through
http://myworld.ebay.com/connekt/
He replied to me within the day, for what it's worth.
Disclaimer: no connection to connekt, mouser or indeed RS

For anyone considering it, the 10cm cable was perfectly adequate - I drove into work with the Desire navigating and it all went perfectly. Sat next to another Desire GPS Status shows very similar output, certainly nothing noticeably worse.

Just ordered me one of those.
I hate universal holders and I hate passive holders. This seems like the best choice right now, since the official merchandise is still not in sight...

I have one. It works super. You'll be really happy with it.
Google is missing the boat huge on this car dock.
That's good to hear, MadFlava. I had one of those for my previous phone (Touch Diamond) and that one has served me perfectly too.
Installed mine yesterday. I love it. The cords are ugly but I'll work on that when I get a chance.
Yup, I have one and would recommend them too
Well, received mine today, and... my Nexus One does not fit??? It will not slide far enough over the micro-usb connection.... any of you guys experienced anything like this?
It does not charge now... and there's like 2mm of space left between the bottom of my Nexus One and the holder.. I've used force to some extent, but it just will not slide any further..

I'm new here so I can't post links but go to androidforums.com and search for the thread ProClip Mounting System. In there you'll find a guy (dbpaddler) that has a lot of knowledge about these mounts. He's a re-seller for Brodit I think. Tell him about your problem and maybe he can help.

Sounds very odd. Can you post us a few pictures of what's going on?
See attachment. The micro-usb connector in the holder is about 4.5mm high, but my Nexus One will only slide over it like for 2mm and then it feels like it is blocked by something. I've used force, but no movement whatsoever.
I find it strange too.. I don't see anything odd on the connector, nor on the female connector on my Nexus One. I guess I'll take it back to the store...
How odd. It looks like the connector is slightly left of centre, if you use the trackball to be centre... no jiggling will make it fit?
It may look a bit off-centre due to my photography skills, it looks okay in real life. Jiggling or forcing does not help unfortunately. Of course the connector that came with my Nexus One charger fits nicely, and I don't see any peculiarities when I compare it to the one on the Brodit.
Anyhow, I logged an issue with the webshop that I bought it from and they happen to have a brick-and-mortar store some 50km from here, so I may drop by to demonstrate my problem. Thanks for your help.
Do you have a body skin on the phone?
Nope, no skin. Going to the store later today to have the holder replaced, they think it may just be a faulty unit. Will keep you all posted.
Well, guess what.... just returned from the store, and the replacement holder that they offered had exactly the same problem. The sales guy was as astonished as I was. Personally he had not sold any of these, since the Nexus One is officially not available yet here in the Netherlands, so demand is minimal, but it makes me wonder if I'm really the only one with this problem, and whether my specific Nexus One could be the problem...
Anyway, he took mine back and I was fully refunded, so kudos for pdashop.nl.
Downside: still no carmount for me.
I have one too, it does fit but, I had to wiggle it a little bit to get it in......
It was not just straight forward. I will have a go tonight and see if it still play hard to get.
anyway once plugged, it worked fine for me.
We (both me and the sales guy in the store) used force and wiggled, but to no avail. Besides, I don't want a holder that needs wiggling in the first place. I want it to fit perfectly. That's why I do not buy a universal holder but a Nexus-specific one.
I got mine and it fits perfect.

The Site is not in english. how do you guys understand what information to fill out when ordering? also can you guys please post some pics? with the dock already in place? just wondering what its going to look like in my car.
Hey There!
So a few weeks ago my friend (HaiKaiDo here on the XDA forums) got a replacement Samsung captivate from att after having some bad luck with an Official "OTA" update. Upon running odin the first time on his phone to prepare it for flashing some of the roms here on XDA he noticed that after doing so, he lost his capability to use the three button combination to kick him into download mode. While there is another version of odin, this still made both of uneasy with thoughts of a "yeah...that would only happen to me -_-" moment. So he asked me if we could make a USB jig for just incase. This would be something that isnt just a bunch of resistors twisted together and taped to a hacked off micro usb cable ending, or just twisting resistors together and trying to POKE at the inside of the captivates micro usb port (Sounds primitive yes?). After a few minutes of brain storming we came up with a failry simple solution and list of materials needed
1.) Premade PCB Board
2.) A Now defunct wireless receiver for a Kensington wireless mouse. (this was for the housing
3.) 3 100k Ohm Resistors (Fire resistant 2% tolerance worked best for us)
4.) A Micro USB ending carefully revoed from its cable and plastic housing
5.) Spray liquid tape and some good old fashioned HotGlue
There were two main attempts made at making this USB jig. The first attempt ended in complete failure and frustration through what turned out to be no fault of our own. It just so turned out that we were using resistors that were using had a higher tolerance (this ends up in discrepancy in what the actual resistance is compared to the rated resistance) so a few things were happening here. We would get out a meter to test the resistance and everything would pan out fine, then directly after we would plug in the jig and no dice. This led to us repeatedly adding and removing 1k ohm resistors for hours trying to find the "sweet spot" so to speak. This never happened....at all. So here we are a few weeks later with those nice 2% tolerance resistors (that were picked up from Fry's electronic for .95 cents SUCKIT RADIO SHACK heh 6 dollars for a pack of resistors bah) and some spare time. This time around, things went much smoother and faster with trimming down the pcb board, soldering on the resistors to the board and connecting them from the board to the micro usb end. And finally cramming them neatly (with **** loads of hot glue ) into the case that we had fashioned to use for this project. Here are some pictures and Youtube video of the final product below!
Enjoy
Spankmaster & HaiKaiDo(Hand cameo in the video woot woot )
PS: Stop spending TEN DOLLARS ON EBAY for one of these! Its rather easy and pretty damn fun to do! And how cool will you look when you can show your friends what you made ;D
PSS: Sorry for the lack of any form of start and middle pictures or content, we always decide to make something and think that were not going to post it, and then when it ends up being cool all we have is the end result to tell about hah.
Cool. And that's the first I've ever heard of Liquid Tape.
Liquid tape is the bomb I like the spray stuff better, but they sell it in a jar like rubber cement too.
I know this a SUPER old bump. But this was something that a friend and i made a good few months back but i think it has relevance as it seems there is a wave of people asking about jigs again in random places strewn throughout the forums. So for the same of saving some phones and money. BUMP

When you factor in the cost of the resistors, that little board, the usb connector, and a can of liquid tape if you don't have it already, it would cost alot more to make one than the $8 I paid for my jig that I purchased. You did a great job with your jig and the video but if you don't already have the supplies it is way cheaper and easier to just buy one.

I would have to completely disagree. I made this ALL out of stuff i had laying around the house. also The bread board is optional. That was just my own personal touch. I spent 0 dollars. you spent 8 ;D. I had my jig in 30 minutes, you had to wait days. ;D
does the jig have to be 300k and just 300k it cant be a little off?

Its actually supposed to be 301k, but with the large tolerance found in resistors 300k will do.
^^^ Yep. Ohmed out, one of my jigs is 294.

Hey
I have had my One S for about 9 months now and I have found over the past few months the usb port is getting looser and looser. The coating around its edges is now white not black. I have real concerns that before the end of my 24 month contract the phone will no longer work. Though for now at least, it is working.
I've read about the "coating" issues with the One S black edition. But this is more to do with the bodywork I think? Has anyone else found the micro-usb port is rather flimsy and has begun to wear. Or is it just me? Anyone would have thought from looking at it I'd been carelessly battering the usb port each day.. but this has happened through normal usage. It seems the usb port is not very robust. Maybe I just need to be more careful, I dunno?
I will be very carefully plugging in cables for the next year or so!

EDIT: SORRY. I realise this is covered in the Micro Arc Oxidation thread. Not sure how to delete this thread?
The bad news is I have already contacted HTC and they are saying if the USB needs repairing it will be at my cost.
Probably the last time I buy a HTC. Seems the warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on.

HI
Same problem for the micro-usb edges they became little bit whiter now, but the port it self, is working perfectly for mine !
So despite posts on here suggesting that our phone wouldn't work with the Standard Dock for the Bionic, I decided to take the plunge and snag one anyways ($10.99 w/free shipping on Amazon here if you're Prime). I figured I could eat the cost if it wouldn't work, and I also ordered a small micro usb 'extension cord' at the same time, to see if that would help.
The dock arrived today and I popped the phone on the dock - it doesn't sit flush in the cradle (as to be expected, the port is shifted to the left), but it does connect, the phone recognizes it's connected (and offers various dock modes), and it charges the device (when plugged in, of course).
I still may try and disassemble the device and shift the plug over to make it fit flush, but it does work as is.
Just figured I'd share in case anyone else just wanted a simple dock/charging station wasn't up to spending the $80+ that the A2 specific HD dock goes for.

If you have time, would you mind posting a picture of it sitting in the cradle for me? I would love to get one, but I'm picky about dumb things. Just wanted to see what I would be looking at.

Will do once I find batteries for my 'real' camera. So used to using the phone as a camera these days.
But I can tell you it sticks up and out, and looks awkward as hell. So it's probably not going to be aesthetically pleasing to you.
That's what I was thinking.
Maybe I can take a dremel to it?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2
I have to apologize - I'm having a comedy of errors here when it comes to trying to get pictures (that aren't from the phone itself, at least). I can't find the main camera. I found an older camera but it's apparently dead (got a pretty purple grainy picture at my attempt). If I do happen to find that regular camera anytime soon, I'll snap some pictures.
In the meanwhile, I've linked to 2 pictures of the dock w/o the phone in it (taken by the phone, ofc) ... instead of sitting flush, the phone is over to the left about the length of my pinky. Please ignore my fat hands holding said dock.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8mauz9yfq72htoa/2013-04-12 13.02.10.jpg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6xwo6w8t4fpbzsx/2013-04-12 13.01.47.jpg
So I took it apart (and probably destroyed it, but oh well) ... there's 2 rubber pads on the bottom, one on each side. Beneath each pad are two small phillips head screws. Pop those four out and the device should separate. I tried making my own hole next to where it comes by default (stretching the cabling, flipping the shield, etc), even marking the usb so that it was extended out far enough. No dice. Worked briefly as a dock again but I wasn't happy with how unsteady it was and fiddled with it more, and now it doesn't recognize it as dock.
If anyone else wants to hack at it and is willing to cover your own shipping costs, toss me a PM and I'll be happy to send in onward.
Edit: This fan from Digi-Key isn't the same fan as the stock one. I wouldn't advise buying it until bignazpwns confirms if his method works.
The fan in this phone is made of the softest type of plastic available. If you've messed with it at all you've probably broken it accidentally. Or, in my case you dropped the phone and the fan began clicking.
There are no results if you google "red magic 3 fan replacement", but luckily I've found the fan itself (not the fan housing) on Digi-Key for roughly $18.72 (remove the space): www .digikey.com/product-detail/en/delta-electronics/BSB01703HA3-00CAJ/603-2066-ND/7403223

That fan won't work. It's a 4 wire pwm can in the RM3 that fan is a 3 wire.
I ordered one I broke my fan so I'm going to see if it has the -FP+ like the stock fan and just needs a wire or if I gotta transplant the board. Delta said it's a custom fan so I'll post what I get to get it back up and running.
Update. They offer no replacement fans what so ever and no help at all other then send it in for an extremely costly repair that will take over a month to complete.
I'll be making a guide this week about adapting the bsb01703ha3-00 as a replacement. There is no reason for them not to sell this fan or provide any info. 3 wire fan should work but will have no pwm control but I think there might be a solder point on it for the pwm lead. I'll post my findings as well as If I swap out the fans pcb with the OEM one. That should be the best way to do it and use the new fan as a donor housing and fan.
You will need to mod the housing tho since the blade is just held in by it's magnets and could move when dropped. This is why the OEM has that little bar over it. But I'll make a guide for everyone and save them a ton of money and time.
If you have a sla or dlp printer and you need a new housing here ya go.

Sorry I've been meaning to make an update. I had the same idea you had for the -FP+ thing, and was just going to try connecting everything judging from the labels on (remove space) www .delta-fan.com/Download/Spec/BSB01703HA3-00CAJ.pdf , and connect + to + and - to -, and try both remaining ones with the middle wire. Unfortunately my fan's cables were too short to do that.
What I wound up doing was taking the circuit board (with all 4 cables) and very carefully placing it in the housing of the new fan, replacing its board. I soldered everything back up and nothing. It wouldn't spin at all, even on boot. So as far as I know this isn't a viable method, pending bignazpwns' response. I've already updated the OP to reflect. Big ups to bignazpwns for going the extra mile with the replacements

Note.
Replacement fan is much louder due to the fact 100% is a bit more RPM. Just replaced the fan with one with a replacement blade assembly, coils off the aftermarket fan all on the stock pcb. This gets the auto speed control back and makes preform like stock. 100% is a little bit less in terms of RPM but much more quiet.
Just note swapping coils is not easy.
You will need to remove 1/2 a coil so you can get to the other solder pad. Red Magic fan used SMT coils and the replacement is soldered by hand. You will also need to apply light heat to remove them. They are stuck down with adhesive. I used a hot air reflow station but you really need to watch the heat because you can cause it to uncoil. Scale from 1-10 for soldering skill this is a 10.
The replacement fan drops right in and offeresore rpm to move more air at 100% just connect the 3 wires and be done with it. I'm always here to give advice and help of you need to do this. Also for adhesive I use this. AJ Sign World Best 1" Ultra-Thin... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBJVU04?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share it's thin and super strong. If you work on phones I highly recommend you get a roll.

NP. I destroyed mine with 100psi of air lol. No big deal easy fix and it's only hard if you make it. I'll probably swap the replacement fan back in for the higher rpm and more air flow. On and off control is good enough for me.
