My htc aria also has the same thing.

GSM Antenna. That could be BT, GPS, Wifi?
That could be to ground the phone.

If the phone needed to be grounded wouldn't it not run when the battery cover was off?

There's two little rubberish/paper things between the metal, it doesn't touch the back.
Not sure what it is but it doesn't have anything to do with contacting the cover or there wouldn't be that material keeping it from coming in contact with it.

Hmm, looks like on mine they are contact pads. I can see shiny meterial where it contacts to it. I was guessing the powedercoated back doesn't conduct very well so they put the pads on. Or else it would look like the simcard blocker right above the circle don't ya think?

True, I had never touched them, LOL... Yea nevermind what I said earlier then.
I still don't think this is an antenna because I'd suspect if you bridged them with your finger (like I just tried) the signal would drop, which isn't the case.
The one on the left moves in and out. I assume its to let the phone know when the back cover is off.

We gatta see if it drops Wifi, bluetooth or GPS single when you touch them. Almost all contacts i've seen with something you can remove move in and out. Like old Cellphone chargers and stuff. Maybe its for some kinda accsessory we have not seen yet that clips on the back? I dunno?
I thought during one of the walkthroughs with the phone, someone mentioned that it was indeed the antenna of the phone.
There is a thin metal border that runs around the front of the HTC kaiser that has the exact same mechanism with the pins and the bare metal and it is the antenna. I wouldn't doubt this is the same thing. Touching both the pins at the same time does not make it drop signal, but having that metal gone really does a number on the phones reception.
Well the human body does conduct so maybe touch th em both with something rubber? okay I used the two earbuds from the headset and sure enough it goes from 3 bars to 0
wait that might have been a fluke.. i'm only loosing one bar now with the earbuds I must have just turned it the right way before
In my house, my service always fluctuates. When I use a Nokia, i can go from full bars to dropping a call by moving around. With my iPhone, I rarely saw a full bar. It is the same with this phone.
But you know what? I haven't dropped a call in my house, nor have I dropped a call anywhere else.
Since someone was sitting in the middle of their house, and showed how white-knuckling a phone kills the signal, everyone is worried about their antenna. As long as you keep your call going, does it matter whether or not you lost a bar or two?
Most people now are just looking for a reason to critisize all phones. And yes, EVERY phone loses a bar or two when you squeeze it.
If you are dropping calls, just leave the phone and get another one. If you're not, just ignore the bars and enjoy a sweet ass phone!

BS.
Metal gone on mine and it's still at -51dB, 5 bars.
Metal back on and it's at -51dB, 5 bars.
If I touch the phone I can get it to fluctuate to -91dB, 3 bars... So don't try to feed me the "you must be in an excellent signal area to where it won't matter" nonsense.
Really don't think these are the antennas, but IF THEY WERE, the connection to the case doesn't seem to do squat.

Well today evening after i came from the job, i just wonder to check for some new software here around to install on my phone and when i took him out of the covering, some rubber ring jump out and when i pick it up that thing i saw my phone looking like this.
I hope to get some support from the nice people of O2 Germany, actually i'm pretty sad with the production and quality of this phone.

Just bad luck mate. Thanks for the warning, stuff like that usually happens when you pull out the phone from a tight pocket.
Seems like something that can be easily fixed with a bit of glue. Depends how well it fits in again ofcourse.
Still, for a device with this price you would expect it stays on the device and not fall off. But probably just bad luck, these things happen.

And what do you think is the first thing they are going to do to 'fix' it? I guess it depends on the way it was attached to the device to begin with, but it doesn't look all that impressive.

I'm sending my phone back to O2 Reparaturservice in Germany, let's see what they can do to stick the band.
HTC did a very crappy work with the Orbit 2, I think O2 should take all the phones back and return them to HTC.
Iv just had the same thing happen to me after one week of having the phone, going to o2 on friday, i want a replacement there and then.
Hey guys,
for those who did not already lose their rubber band. I would suggest to detach it and re-glue it using superglue. This worked for me and I am VERY sure that no one will be able to detach this any more...
So prevention is better than loosing the thing and I am pretty sure that O2 will not fix that in the O2 Shop, so you have to return the device for repair and that will end up in being without the orbit2 for many days.
For me this was no choice...

While browsing the forum on my laptop, I look at my Orbit 2, and you guessed it, my rubber ring is missing!
nice one lads...just bought myself an Orbit 2 and now I read this...should have gone for the Cruise I suppose..oh well...let's keep superglue business in town shall we
is this what we have come to expect from phones. a bit dropes off and we have to fix it. bit's should not drop off phones just because we've used them for a week. i despair.

since i'm in the US and without a local retailer or repair center, i followed avoigt's advice and gently removed the rubber ring and resealed with super glue. can you tell the difference?
it's not going anywhere now.
Same here, guys!
But only half of my ring got detached while I was trying to pull the device out of the leather Noreve case. I've bought it but I wish I hadn't. I will never use it. Pity.
I didn't even try to re-glue the ring. It did it itself But I will sure do it with some super glue as recommended here!
My battery door at the top on the left and right are not completely flush with the device. There is not a huge gap, but you can see it's not flush. Is anyone else's like this, is this something I should be worried about ?

Hmmm...it should be flushed
Are you sure the door is latched securely? Sometimes I must really force mine to close. Like sporty377 said, this can affect your signal if the door isn't completely secured.
I am disappointed with the overall quality of the TB exterior. It pales in comparison to my old N1. Seems like HTC did a rush job and threw together a bunch of leftover stuff from the parts bin and said F*ck it. People will buy it regardless, just get it out to the carriers.
Its snapped all the way down. I will get some pics in a few. It doesn't seem like it's affecting anything.
Pics added. Best pics I could get, which it sort of looks worse in the pics. I don't see it affecting anything. This is a like new bolt, and I have other other like new that is like this also. I do have one more coming tomorrow, which I only hope may be better.

There are a number of "catch points" that need to be squeezed tight and snapped into place around the outer edge of the cover.
If it is tight, and it is within the first 30 days (or did it change to 14--can't recall), and if it's troublesome, have VZW either give you an entirely new phone or a new battery cover.

I think all will have a very slight gap, but it should be uniform all the way around the battery door. You could try snapping it on with a different method. Top first, then middle or vice versa.

No they don't. There are slight differences on the back case of some devices. Some users that were comparing sensations that had different screen manufacturers noticed that.
What I don't know is if those small differences really affect the death grip

The main difference as I have read is let's say "copper made looking connectors" number. The covers with 3 connectors on top side mostly do not have death grip, while those with 2 have, as I have too Below are sample pics found on the net.

I have a back cover with 3 connectors at the top. Came with the phone. And I assure you, I DO have the death grip. Sitting 10 feet away from my router will drop it only 1 bar, no problem. If I'm in another room, holding it in landscape will drop the connection completely in about 10 seconds.

Very disappointing and annoying case.. I thought that the cover with 3 connectors on top could solve the issue Wonder how did the HTC allow manufacturing defective units and after all send it to the customers as accurate
Oh man, that's nothing. You want to see defective, just wait until your touchscreen starts acting up and you can't drag the ring to unlock your phone (especially for an incoming call...)
If your Sensation only exhibits the grip of death, you're doing OK!

Same exact here. I have the 3 copper things on the top portion and if I am in a room about 15-20 feet away from the router, I can lose my wifi completely if in landscape mode.
Same here, I have 3 pins and the death grip.
I have 3 pins and no Wifi issues or dead screen issues. This most likely has something to do with the dates of manufacture.
no death grip at all even when i cover the whole phone with my hands still no death grip, i also have the tmobile rubber case.

It's so weird that some have it and some don't. Is it something to do with the router settings cause I have the 3 pins as well and have the death grip issue......luckily I don't have anything wrong with the screen being unresponsive. UPDATE:
I would have to give the case a 8.5/10
Cons:
*Hard to connect headphone jacks, the case makes it impossible to reach (It may work for the apple and samsung headphones, haven't tried it. Only tried the beats cable).
*It does block signal somewhat.
*Makes the phone heavier, but not that much.
*The Sticky material to connect the screen on the case is not as great. After taking it off and putting it back on; the stickiness goes away. They do supply you with 1 more pack of stickies(includes 4, one each corner) but what happens when it's done? You're on your own.
Pros:
*Very stylish
*Comes with a screen protector and an aluminum button.
*Protects the phone all around.
*Not cheap material.
*Makes the S4 look like another phone.
Looks cool.
Hmm... I think they are trying too hard to look like the iPhone 5...
Also, this is a Faraday cage. It will kill reception.
I dont like how it looks like a perfect rectangle
don't think that will protect much because the transfer of stress impact will be almost directly transferred to the phone with little absorption unless there is some padding inside of it, which I doubt.
Here's a clickable link so people don't have to copy and past.

I'm not 100% sold on the rectangle, but it's different. So I like

Hey fellow Nexus 5 users,
So I ordered my nexus 5 nearly two years ago now, and I wanted to replace the battery to regain that first day battery life,
and since the performance is still top notch maybe keep the phone another year.
Anyway I replaced it, and now the cell signal is worse, I get Edge where I used to get H+ or LTE, sometimes the LTE signal is displayed in the status bar, but no data is getting through. but I can't explain it... and the weird thing is at home I get full working 4G. it really depends on the location.
I think I replaced it correctly, without damaging any internals, the only thing I noticed that I broke is (I don't know what it's called) a little thing that's on the back of the phone, that keep the back well attached to the phone. (see picture)

and I broke one that's on the top, where there are little pins that make contact with the phone. But even with one that's broken, the back is still very well attached to the phone.
My question is, are the contacts on the back used at all to improve cell reception ? What else could cause this issue
by the way, wifi is working fine, phone calls as wells...
thanks for reading and the help
Well, you broke something on the top of the cover, there are pins at the top, on the cover. Your reception has taken a turn for the worse. I am going with, maybe most definitely yes. But a simple google search for teardown parts may show you what you need. I say may, because info like that is not always easy to find or is even available.
Also, have you tried pressing on the top back of the phone to see if the reception gets an better?

After vexing these sites and reading up on it, if you broke parts on the back cover that adhere it to the phone. And you are having reception issues, time to purchas a new cover. Should not be to expensive. Also, a little trick/test that you can perform is. Obtain some copper foil cut it small enough and fold it to the point where you are sure that it will make contact with the cover and the antenna contacts. But allow the cover to adhere to the phone still.

Thanks for the response, yes I tried several times to press before, and no changes.
I feel like the issue lies somewhere else. I'm not sure if the pins on the back have that much impact on the reception ?
Maybe I moved the antennas/cables with my screwdriver (the black and the white cable that run alongside the battery) when I replaced the battery, I was careful and don't think I did, but I'm gonna try to do what this guy did when I get home : https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2q2lw5/nexus_5_keeps_losing_mobile_signal/cn36z03
Anyone know exactly what the black and white antennas do ? I mean one for 3G, the other for LTE, that kind of thing
Thanks for any help
Have you tried to take it apart again and see if they popped off or are lose? Maybe you cut one of the antenna connection wires ever s9 slightly enough that you did not notice it when putting it back together. Though, that is somewhat of a slightly difficult thing to do. As they are covered in braided stainless steel. Past these things, I know nothing else that would help.

Make sure both ends of those antenna wires are secure... I know at least the "top" ends snap down onto their contacts and when I changed my battery, the RH one popped loose and I had to snap it back down.
